Hey friends! Welcome to Girls' Night! I'm so excited about today's episode. Today we're talking about how to take the first step (and then next 10!) when pursuing your dreams. We all are dreaming about something — maybe it's something we want to happen in our lives, maybe it's something we want to happen in the world because of our lives. And if you have a dream, you also have a few things that go along with it — fear, insecurity, uncertainty, and discouragement. (Among other things.) Sometimes, figuring out what we even want to do in the first place is the issue. Other times we know what we want to do, but getting started (and then keeping going!) is a whole other story.  No matter where you are with your dreams for your life, I cannot WAIT for you to meet our Girls Night guest for today.  Our guest for today's episode is Liz Bohannon. Liz is a social entrepreneur and the founder of Sseko Designs, a socially responsible fashion company. She is also a Forbes Top 20 speaker, the author of the best-selling book Beginner's Pluck, the host of the Plucking Up Podcast, and a partner at Noonday Collection. I've followed Liz for years and her book, Beginner's Pluck, totally changed my life. I cannot wait for you to hear from her! Let's hop into our conversation!  Learn more about your ad choices. A lot can happen in a decade, which is how long it's been since I first met my friend Liz Bohannon!   Liz is a social entrepreneur (best known for co-founding and leading Sseko Designs), a bestselling author, speaker, podcast host, AND a past client of P&P.   Watching Liz's platform grow from near and far over the past decade has been wildly incredible, especially getting to play a small part in it.   Although it seems Liz has done it all, she did start somewhere.   She wrote a fantastic book called Beginners Pluck to recount her small beginnings and teach us women how to lean into a season of new.   That we bring magic into our own lives and businesses because we are beginners, NOT in spite of it!    And in today's episode, she expands on her book and the art of dreaming small to achieve big, so you can too.   If you've been looking for a sign to start something new, grab those headphones.   Come hangout with Liz and me on this week's episode of the Marketing Your Purpose podcast, and embrace your Inner Beginner. The pressure to find purpose can be overwhelming, evoking a spectrum of emotions that range from stress and anxiety to downright fear. In today's episode, Kristen welcomes author, entrepreneur, activist, and all-around powerhouse Liz Bohannon. Liz challenges the conventional narrative around dreaming big, emphasizing the need to reframe messages and integrate work that aligns with our purpose. Liz doesn't just talk about finding your purpose; she empowers you to build it.   Kristen and Liz's incredible conversation introduces the concept of "plucking up" – the courage to face failures and learn from them as you construct a purposeful life. She encourages us to find what we love and dismisses the notion that passion or purpose will magically find us.    Let's look at a few highlights: Kristen and Liz Liz explore the role of curiosity in unlocking a growth mindset, activating the mind, and fostering creativity. Liz challenges the notion that purpose has to be grand, encouraging individuals to find joy in the ordinary and love their average selves. Failure is an inevitable part of being human. While it may never feel good, reframing our perspective can prevent it from being the end of the world. The story behind how Sseko morphed from a wholesale company to a direct sales/network marketing company Liz shares the power of a driven community, highlighting the importance of collective ambition. This conversation isn't just about individual goals but celebrates the need for community.    It's a conversation filled with insights, challenges, and opportunities for personal growth that will undoubtedly fill your cup and inspire you to embrace your purpose and own your average. It's not just about goals; it's about collective ambition, community, and the pursuit of purpose—whether big or small.   Listen to Liz's Podcast Plucking Up To learn more (and shop!) about Sseko Designs head over to their website   Did you hear? My guests this week are Jessica Honegger and Liz Bohannon. Jessica is the author of Imperfect Courage and founder of the socially conscious fashion brand Noonday Collection. Liz is the founder of Sseko Designs, an ethical fashion brand that works to educate and empower women. She is also the newly named chief growth officer of Noonday Collection. Today we're talking about the merge heard around the fair trade world that happened this summer when Noonday Collection and Sseko Designs came together. Jessica and Liz have been on the show before, but today's conversation will be extra special. 6:05 – Jessica 201 Jessica's company is a one-stop fully ethical shop that creates opportunities for artisans living in some of the world's most vulnerable places. She is a mom of three and has a book, a podcast and a love of queso and margaritas. 7:20 – Liz 201 She joined Noonday and is working to grow the company's global artisan impact and community of entrepreneurs in the U.S. Liz believes every girl should have the opportunity to learn and to lead. She has three young boys and also loves queso and margaritas. 17:22 – Counterculture Liz and Jessica are living counter culturally by working together instead of competing against each other. They spent many hours having difficult conversations about how to merge their businesses. Their business cares for women around the world. 32:23 – Going into business together Long ago, I felt like Liz and Jessica should go into business together but never told them. Their work is a beautiful testament to who they are. 40:35 – A faithful, consistent partner 11 years ago, Liz hired Agnes “Aggie” Netunze, of Uganda, as an intern. She later became the company's general manager. Aggie has been the most faithful, consistent work partner Liz has ever had. Aggie is now the majority owner of Sseko Uganda. 46:16 – Running a business with purpose Liz and Jessica are leaning into their shared purpose. They are using business to create opportunities for women by staying curious and gritty and open. FEATURED QUOTES Every girl should have the opportunity to learn and to lead. – Liz This is why women should run the world. You can do hard things. – Liz Our business is what cares for so many women around the world. – Jessica You don't know what God is doing. Are you looking to clean up your household cleaning products this year? MamaSuds would like to help! The best way is to simply start with one product. Every time you run out of a specific cleaning product, replace it with a non-toxic one. Another tip, purchase a product that has multiple uses. The MamaSuds Collection has many multiple use products (castile soap or the toilet bombs are just a few!). Their blog has lots of great tips and a castile soap recipe that you can print and make a lot of your own effective cleaners! “I want people to hear and know that you don't have to be afraid of ruptures (in a relationship). When you rupture and you're committed to repairing, what is built on the other side of that is actually more powerful, more intimate, and more committed.”We are continuing our Collaboration Over Competition series, and my guests today are no strangers to The Happy Hour. Jessica Honegger and Liz Forkin Bohannon recently merged their two awesome companies together! Jessica is the founder of Noonday Collection and Liz is the founder of Sseko Designs. On this episode, we talk about what that process and decision was like for them, being that their companies were each other's competition in the ethical fashion space. We cover a lot in our conversation. Like how Liz moved to Uganda with a passion and desire to build a community and gain a deeper understanding about issues impacting women and girls living in extreme poverty. And how Jessica believes that relationships are a part of who we are all created to be.  Jessica talked about how she wanted Liz to come on her podcast and how it was not an easy decision to invite Liz into her space where she would talk about her company. We talk about jealousy, not valuing each other's decisions, and the power of merging their companies for collaboration, not competition. Together Liz and Jessica really care about global poverty and cleaning up the fashion supply chain, and I'm excited for you to hear from them today! Connect with JamieFacebook //  Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE

And she dives into the philosophies that have built Sseko into what it is today: That every human deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and that how we spend our money matters. “As consumers, every dollar we spend is a vote for how we're saying, this is how we want the world to work,” she says. The gold standard of goals training is SMART goals. Everyone teaches it. Many people try to do it. But what if your smart goals make you feel dumb? What if there is a better way to have goals that are meaningful and bring you peace instead of stress? In Episode 40 of Just One Simple Thing, I'm sharing a new goal-setting acronym and I think you are going to love it.I'm sure you've heard about SMART goals. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound ... or some slight variation. For sensitive, creative types, I've found that SMART goals can make you feel dumb. Because SMART goals are results-focused ... all-or-nothing.  And If you don't hit the target, you label yourself a failure for not being SMART enough. What if we took a different approach to goals? What if we focused more on theprocess than the results? If we valued making progress towards the goal as much as crossing the finish line? What if we set PEACE goals? I'm going to teach you a new goals acronym so you can replace SMART with PEACE. Ready?P is for Purposeful - Your goals should align with your deepest purpose. They should resonate with the core of your being.E is for Essential - Prioritize your goals so that you are moving forward in the most important ways in the most important areas. Conquer the essential tasks and behaviors that may impact your life in multiple areas.A is for Adjustable - Rather than setting a single goal, think of “Good, Better, Best” versions of your goal. Good –the minimum that would be “good enough” for youBetter –the target that would satisfy you and feel like an accomplishmentBest –a stretch level that would be better than you could imagine.C is for Current –We should all have an eye on our long-range goals. They help us prepare for our future. But we also need goals that impact our present. We can break down our long range goals into the smaller steps we'll take now to get there. And the second E is for Enjoyable–How do you feel when you think about your goals? Are you motivated and encouraged? Or dreading the worthy work it will take to get there.Pursuing PEACE goals will keep your actions in line with your principles and use your limited time and resources to make progress where you can. You'll be actively engaged in the most important areas of your life and advancing the causes you care about. Now that's what I call SMART.ACTION STEPHead over to my free Facebook group, Plan & Pray with Do A New Thing, and grab the worksheet to evaluate your PEACE goals. Snap a picture and share it on social media. I'd love to hear how these PEACE goals are different than the SMART goals you've set in the past.RESOURCES: Christian Woman Leadership Podcast Episode 28 Three Practical Approaches to Goal Setting Christian Woman Leadership Podcast Episode 181 Setting Goals and Making Plans that Bring Peace Instead of StressBook Recommendation: Beginner's Pluck: Build Your Life of Purpose and Impact Now by Liz Bohannon.++++++++++Are you tired from trying to share your God-inspired message while working your full time job? I was thrilled to get to interview Liz Bohannon, founder and CEO of Sseko Designs, for this week's episode of Raise Your Hand Say Yes. We talked about how she went from "an idea" of what her calling was to building the company she has now. We also talked about how she felt quitting her "looks good on paper" job to move to Uganda without a plan, what happened when she realized that she was building a business around things she *thought* she hated, and how many times she's been told no. This episode was full of SO MANY gems (get the cliff notes and my top 5 highlights below) and might be just what you need to get your butt in gear towards making something big happen for this world.
