April 12, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 114 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers signing free agent K Matthew Wright on Wednesday. We go over what Wright's addition means, his contract, and much more. We also look at the available 2024 salary cap space the Steelers have after signing Wright. The Steelers have had several more players in for pre-draft visits since our Wednesday show, so Alex and I recap all of that news and much more as this part of the offseason comes to a close. Are you ready for a long discussion about centers and the 2024 NFL Draft? We hope so because Alex and I discuss everything related to the top three ranked centers in this draft class, Graham Barton, Jackson Powers-Johnson, and Zach Frazier. Should teams be looking at Barton as a guard? Are the Dallas Cowboys destined to select one of Barton or Powers-Johnson in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft? Who else needs a center in the first two rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft? We attempt to answer those questions in this show. Will the Steelers ultimately need to trade up in the second round to secure one of Barton, Powers-Johnson, or Frazier? We address that question and look at one plausible trade scenario in this show. We go over several historical aspects related to the center position and NFL Drafts during this show as well. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 109-minute episode, and we end things by answering several emails that we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Thee Phantom combines the raw energy and passion of Hip-Hop with the beautiful, sweeping melodies of live orchestration. Phantom wrote his first rhyme at the age of 8 and made his first beat by mixing the instrumental from the Beastie Boys' Paul Revere with Beethoven's Fifth Symphony at age 12. Ironic considering that the movement of Beethoven's 5th is entitled, “Destiny”. Little did he know, Phantom's combination of B-Boy meets Beethoven would later open up a world of opportunities for him. COVID new hospitalization rate drops below 60 - we're (hopefully) on our way back to Stage 4, at 50 - while two reported deaths on Tuesday keep that daily average steady and high at 7. The fall run of the Pecan Street Festival has been denied its special events permit by the City. Lago Vista High School goes to remote learning for three days, starting today. Governor Greg Abbott signs into law the contentious SB1, the voting restriction bill that prompted the six-week walkout of Democratic House members - that walkout ultimately failed to stop the law, but did influence some concession - while President Joe Biden weighs in. The Texas NAACP has sued over SB1, and is also party in a lawsuit against the University of Texas regarding "The Eyes Of Texas". Governor Abbott has also called a third special session of the Texas Legislature, the main event: redistricting. Goals set for a large increase in affordable housing in Austin, almost halfway thru the set decade, are falling severely short. City health officials and the CDC remind us: it's time for flu shots. Vaccines are top of mind in Austin this Texas Independence Day - area county leaders saw great success last Saturday with their mass-vaccination trial run at COTA and will do it again this weekend with a much higher goal in mind. Travis County sports the highest percentage in Texas of people "very likely" to get vaccinated when they can - conversely, 20% of Texans say they are "very unlikely" to take their turn. A major "statewide announcement" is expected from Governor Greg Abbott this afternoon at 1:30 from Lubbock, likely related to a lifting of pandemic restrictions. Things have heated up even further at UT over "The Eyes Of Texas" with the revelation of racist demands from wealthy donors to keep the song. P. Terry's full-timers are in for a raise, and there's a new pizza pie player coming to Manor Road. And, a great spring outdoor live music series has been announced by The Long Center.

Austin never experienced the race riots or other major racial violence of other American cities in the late 20th century, but its road from segregation to civil rights was marked instead by steady, valiant leadership from some pioneers whose names should be better remembered. They were opposed by some people whose names should be remembered for other, less admirable reasons. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Michael Pollan might be the country's foremost food writer, but he considers himself a nature writer, which makes his forthcoming book only slightly less surprising. "How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression and Transcendence" doesn't come out until May, but Pollan will be in Austin to talk about his career, our ever-evolving relationship with nature, the food industry and, yes, LSD at an event on Feb. 2 at the Long Center. He joined us by phone to explain why he wanted to learn more about psychedelic drugs in the first place. ALSO: Is "Black Mirror" a little too close to reality? Film critic Joe Gross and co-hosts Omar L. Gallaga and Tolly Moseley unpack a recent episode, "Arkangel" from the Netflix series' new fourth season. The Ohio-based soccer team, Crew SC, has decided to try to relocate to Austin, and this has local soccer fans swooning and NIMBYs steaming. Statesman sports writer Kevin Lyttle has been covering this issue since October, and he explains why a potential new stadium near downtown has become so divisive among Austinites. In this week’s Webb Report, Eric Webb quizzes us on the relative size of the great state of Texas. In A Toast: "An Unconventional Family" by Sandra Bem and "Everyday Blessings" by Jon and Myla Kabat-Zinn; a moving LSD video from the '50s and Omar's word for 2018, "Bulldoze."
