In this episode, Dr. Jannine Krause sits down with Christian Drapeau, neurophysiology scientist and stem cell pioneer, to explore the fascinating world of plant-based stem cell activation and regenerative medicine. Christian shares his groundbreaking research on how natural plant extracts, including Klamath Lake blue-green algae and sea buckthorn, can stimulate the body's own stem cell production — enhancing the repair of organs, tissues, bones, and even the brain. From athletes seeking faster muscle recovery to those navigating cognitive decline or chronic illness, this episode offers cutting-edge insights into the body's innate healing potential. They dive into how microcirculation, gut health, and even peptide therapy work synergistically with stem cell activation to transform long-term health outcomes. Christian also introduces StemRegen, a supplement developed to safely and effectively increase circulating stem cells using plant-based protocols.

What if mitochondria weren't just energy engines — but conscious beings guiding your survival and evolution? In this episode, Dave Asprey sits down with Zach Bush, MD, to uncover a radical new science of cellular intelligence. Together, they reveal how your mitochondria, microbiome, and genetic memory do far more than support survival—they actively shape consciousness, drive healing, and accelerate human evolution. You'll discover why chronic disease, fatigue, brain fog, and emotional trauma often trace back to lost cellular communication—and how restoring that network can unlock radical resilience, deeper energy, and true longevity. Through the lens of soil health, vibrational biology, light frequencies, and ancient microbial wisdom, Zach Bush shows why the future of biohacking demands reconnection to the deeper intelligence already alive inside you. What You'll Learn in This Episode: • How mitochondria act as conscious messengers—not just energy factories—and why that changes everything about health and aging • Why rebuilding gut microbiome intelligence strengthens immune function, brain health, and emotional resilience • How disrupted cellular communication fuels chronic inflammation, autoimmune disease, and premature aging • How emotional trauma imprints onto genetic expression and triggers mitochondrial collapse • Why viruses and bacteria serve as evolutionary partners—not enemies—and how they upgrade your biology • How “cellular safety” activates healing, regeneration, and peak human performance • How carbon cycles, soil health, and light frequencies repair DNA and extend human lifespan • Simple daily practices that rebuild cellular coherence, boost energy, and reconnect you to your innate intelligence This conversation will rewire how you think about health, disease, and human potential—giving you the tools to upgrade your biology at the deepest level. **Check out Zach's exclusive offer for The Human Upgrade listeners at https://intelligenceofnature.com/ and use code ‘DAVE10” for a discount!** SPONSORS - ARMRA | Go to https://tryarmra.com/ and use the code DAVE to get 15% off your first order. - Apollo Neuro | To get an Apollo wearable, go to https://apolloneuro.com/Dave and save 15%. In this episode, I sit down with Leslie Kenny, founder of Oxford Healthspan, to explore spermidine—a fascinating compound that triggers autophagy, the body's cellular renewal process. Leslie's life took a dramatic turn in her 30s when she was diagnosed with Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis—told she had just five years to live and to give up on having children. Refusing to accept this prognosis, she transformed her health by eliminating inflammatory triggers and supporting her body's natural healing. Now 59, she has the biological age of 21, is autoimmune disease-free, and naturally conceived at 43. "Your liver is amazing. You can renew it. You can regenerate it." - Kristen Kirkpatrick In this episode of Well Beyond 40, I had the pleasure of discussing a silent yet widespread health issue with Kristen Kirkpatrick, a renowned Registered Dietitian and bestselling author. Together, we unpacked the hidden epidemic of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which affects a surprising 1 in 4 people, and its profound impact on metabolic health. Kristen's new book, "Discover Your Metabolic Type and Renew Your Liver for Life," sheds light on how prevalent this condition is and provides a comprehensive guide to reversing its effects. Kristen's journey into liver health began with a realization in her practice: countless patients were unaware of the severity of their liver conditions due to a lack of definitive guidance. She emphasizes that even without symptoms, elevated liver enzymes can signal trouble. This is particularly important for women over 40 navigating metabolism and hormone balance changes during menopause. Learn about the four metabolic types and how they affect your health. Kristen shares actionable steps to check if you're at risk and how to manage or even reverse NAFLD through lifestyle changes and dietary adjustments. One of the most fascinating insights from our conversation is the liver's capacity to heal. Kristen breaks down the importance of specific foods that are proven to support liver health. She dispels myths around liver cleanses and emphasizes the power of gradual, sustainable changes over quick fixes. If you're wondering about the safety of alcohol for NAFLD, she'll demystify that, too. This episode is packed with practical advice that aligns with my mission to help you thrive at any age. If you're curious about how to keep your liver healthy and want to learn more about its often-overlooked role in overall wellness, this episode is a must-listen. Kristen's expertise provides a fresh perspective on managing and preventing liver-related issues, ensuring you can enjoy better health and vitality as you age.   FULL show notes: https://www.jjvirgin.com/liverinsights Reignite Wellness™ Protein First Enzymes: https://reignitewellness.com/products/protein-first-enzymes Reignite:Wellness Omega Plus: https://reignitewellness.com/products/omega-plus Epsom Salt: https://amzn.to/3IxgmMm Vital Choice wild-caught seafood: https://vitalchoice.sjv.io/daKYGy Fresh Pressed Olive Oil Company: https://www.freshpressedoliveoiltrk.com/6ZR9ZK/6JHXF/ Download my FREE Best Rest Sleep Cheat Sheet: https://jjvirgin.com/sleep Dry Farm Wines: dryfarmwines.com/jjvirgin Episode Sponsors:  Try Timeline: https://www.timelinenutrition.com/shop?rfsn=7082975.4b75243 Use code JJ10 for 10% off all products Go to qualialife.com/VIRGINWELLNESS to try Qualia risk-free for up to 100 days and code VIRGINWELLNESS for an additional 15% off. Whether NAFLD or MASLD, the facts remain the same - livers are sicker than they've ever been. And the reason why is the crux of this episode. It's not the ills of old like hepatitis or alcohol that's actually why the majority of liver transplants are done - it's fatty livers. And the saddest part - fatty liver disease is a completely avoidable and reversable disease that requires no more than the basics of eating well, sleeping well and moving our body enough. Kristin Kirkpatrick is the President of KAK, Consulting, LLC, a dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic Dept of Department of Wellness & Preventive Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, and a Senior Fellow at the Meadows Behavioral Healthcare in Wickenburg, Arizona. In this episode, Tess talks with Kristin Kirkpatrick - renowned speaker, best-selling author, and one of the most respected dietitians in the United States. Kristin shares how her struggle with childhood obesity fueled her desire to help people improve their relationship with food. Then traces her journey from White House intern, to lobbyist, to cardiovascular genetics at the Cleveland Clinic, to lead dietitian of their Department of Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine. She speaks to the value of humility and generous mentorship in finding your own path and helping others find theirs. And how stepping out of your comfort zone fast-tracks personal and professional growth. Kristin's talent for simplifying complex medical information has made her a powerful force in nutrition education. She explains why we need to care about the liver, and why Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease has become an epidemic. With an estimated 1 in 4 people affected, and many unaware they have it, the disease is a silent killer. She defines the four metabolic types, why knowing your type is critical, and gives practical strategies for preventing and reversing liver disease. In closing, she shares her next mission: Helping women embrace menopause with humor and love their older bodies! KEY MOMENTS IN THE PODCAST “You can go through so many different versions of yourself. Eventually you're gonna land on who you're meant to be. And sometimes you gotta go through all those versions to figure it out.” “A lot of times we'll take on different things in our life because we didn't have it. So we take that on as a goal to give back what was not given to us.” “When the view doesn't change, you can't necessarily grow. It's the stuff that makes you uncomfortable where you're forced to learn about something you didn't know before.” “1 out of every 4 people has liver disease and probably don't know it because there's no symptoms. We think it's closer to 30% of individuals who have it. It's very much in line with type-two diabetes and insulin resistance. It is an epidemic and a silent killer.” KRISTIN KICKPATRICK, MS, RDN BIO With over 25 years experience in health management, Kristin is an award-winning dietitian, best-selling author, nationally recognized speaker, and founder and president of KAK Consulting, LLC,. As the lead dietitian in the Cleveland Clinic's Department of Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine, Kristin is one of the most respected dietitians in the United States. (Register for the live event here.) In The Great Physician's autobiographical poetry and prose, Dr. Mines shares how her personal and professional background shaped her insights into a fusion of trauma recovery and climate activism. In her global activism through her Climate Change & Consciousness nonprofit, Dr. Mines focuses on humanity's forward moving direction where inner and outer climates meet. In that place of mystery is our connection with the natural world and the living systems waiting to communicate with us, to give us what data cannot record. Poetry, Dr. Mines says, helps make possible “the spaciousness needed to match our inner experience to the outer catastrophe that is accelerating before our eyes. It helps us to understand.” These poems are inner experiences through which she, and indirectly the reader, find a way to understand planetary experience, personal and generational cause and effect, and hopefully, the courage and energy to change organically—from war, intolerance, fear, ennui. “The invitation I received from Lisa Reagan of Kindred World to assemble a collection of my poems as a chronicle of these times stopped me in my tracks. It led me to an internal retrospective of my life in which I saw that I was born to be a poet as well as a healing artist” writes Dr. Mines in the introduction to The Great Physician. “My life has been marked by irrevocable losses. This is underscored by the crushing impact of the Anthropocene. The loss that is the most brutal, the most devastating, is the loss of our children's future. I am speaking of the children of the world, born and unborn, as well as my own children and grandchildren.” In more than a dozen books that reflect her three decades of research as a neuroscientist and embryologist, Mines has investigated shock and trauma as a survivor, a professional, a clinical researcher, and a healthcare provider. Her work has resulted in her nonprofit, The TARA Approach, which provides practical means for the systemic change she promotes as a Regenerative Health paradigm. Her training and healing modality is used by individuals internationally and by professional counselors and organizations such as addiction clinics, abuse centers, and refugee charities.

The Secret of Resilience: Dr. Stephanie Mines When neuroscientist Stephanie Mines started practicing the hands-on healing Art of Compassion, she began to unravel the mystery of trauma and the secret to resilience. As a survivor of early childhood abuse, police brutality as a social justice activist, and a series of dysfunctional and abusive relationships, Mines was profoundly curious about how the human nervous system finds resilience despite the cumulative burden of chronic stress and traumatic life events. While earning her doctorate in neuropsychology, she met Mary Iino Burmeister, master of the Art of Compassion, or Jin Shin Jyutsu. Art of Compassion consists of non-invasive touch, using the fingertips, on sites of the body that are similar to acupuncture points. After the Art of Compassion helped Mines resolve her own trauma and awaken her innate resilience, she began to incorporate it into her clinical research. She discovered that the map of the body she learned from Burmeister sites correlated with the Chinese Extraordinary Meridians or Rivers of Splendor, which develop prenatally. She then began investigating our earliest neurodevelopmental processes and was able to correlate the Extraordinary Meridians with specific embryological events. She found that subtle touch on these sites in combination with trauma resolution amplifies neuroresilience, enhances creativity, restores motivation, and heals the fragmentation and disconnection associated with trauma and shock. Dr. Stephanie Mines is the author of five books that reflect over three decades of research as a neuroscientist. She has investigated shock and trauma as a survivor, a professional, a clinical researcher, and healthcare provider. Her nonprofit, "The TARA Approach," is instrumental in the systemic change she promotes as a Regenerative Health paradigm. Dr. Mines also developed Climate Change & Consciousness to facilitate inner transformation for grounded climate action. Climate Change & Consciousness serves an international and intergenerational community of visionary activists. In addition, Dr. Mines is an award-winning poet. Her poetry has been published in anthologies and in chapbooks. Learn more about Simran here: www.iamsimran.com www.1111mag.com/

Ronald DePinho, M.D., explains how telomerase, typically linked to telomere maintenance, serves as a transcriptional co-activator in the brain. Epigenetic repression of TERT, the gene for telomerase, occurs with aging, contributing to aging hallmarks like cellular senescence and inflammation. DePinho's team developed a compound that reactivates TERT, which, when administered to mice, reverses age-related changes. It restores cognitive function, reduces amyloid plaque, and alleviates inflammation. This suggests that maintaining TERT levels can counteract age-related cognitive decline and neurodegeneration, offering potential for treating neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. DePinho's work expands our understanding of telomerase's multifaceted role in aging and neurodegeneration, holding promise for interventions against these age-related processes. This is a recent interview I did with Meredith Oke on the Quantum Biology Collective podcast. It reflects my current thoughts on the role of light in health and how the circadian rhythm fits into optimal health.  Dr Max Gulhane is a family physician based in New South Wales, Australia and is the host of the Regenerative Health Podcast. Early in his career Dr Gulhane observed the failure of the pharmaceutical based medical model to adequately address chronic illness and prevent disease, and he began a journey starting with diet and leading to light to understand the best way to manage the common complaints & chronic illness he was seeing in his practice. In this episode he explains why light and circadian rhythms are so important, why we need a nature based light / dark cycle as the foundation of our health and why most lightbulbs are the equivalent of junk food. We cover a lot of ground in this conversation, enjoy!Quotes“Food diet, light diet. Optimal health lies somewhere in the middle.” (14:40-14:45 | Dr. Gulhane)“Just like there is junk food, there's also junk light.” (17:01-17:04 | Dr. Gulhane)"Morning light is critical, because it's essentially setting you up not only to start the day, but it's also setting you up for that night's sleep later in the day.” (30:17-30:29 | Dr. Gulhane)“Getting your feet on the bare earth and watching the morning sunrise is the cheapest health intervention in maybe the history of the world.” (42:14-42:24 | Dr. Gulhane)LINKSFollow the Quantum Biology Collective Podcast on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-quantum-biology-collective-podcast/id1657777911To find a practitioner who understand the health principles of quantum biology: www.quantumbiologycollective.orgTo become a QBC member and get invites to live deep dives & access to our video library: www.quantumhealthtv.comTo take our 8 week practitioner certification in the science of quantum biology so that you can add it to your existing area of expertise: www.appliedquantumbiology.comFollow on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook: @quantumhealthtv

“Getting your feet on the bare earth and watching the morning sunrise is the cheapest health intervention in maybe the history of the world,” explains Dr. Max Gulhane, MD. As a family physician and host of the Regenerative Health Podcast, Dr. Gulhane is teaching people all over the world about the importance of a healthy circadian rhythm. His own experiences with trying to heal from terrible acne in his 20s led Dr. Gulhane to recognize the critical blind spots of traditional Western medicine. The strong pharmaceuticals he was prescribed left him with undesirable psychological side effects and the widely recommended plant-based diet only made his condition worse. When he discovered the low carb lifestyle and carnivore diet, his health improved dramatically, but there was one component still missing - light. In this episode, Dr. Gulhane explains how natural health interventions like regulating circadian rhythm are the key to regenerative health. Without a biologically attuned light environment, your body does not have the opportunity to regenerate its health. This is because without the cues from the absence or presence of sunlight, the brain is unable to send the correct signals to your body that let it know when it is time to wake up, sleep, and eat. Nowadays, people typically live in homes overrun by artificial light sources and EMF waves from WiFi. These conditions are not biologically appropriate for health as the human body has evolved over thousands of years to work in alignment with the sun. When you surround yourself with artificial light and miss out on watching the sunrise and sunset, your body misses critical cues which leads to circadian dysfunction like the inability to create enough melatonin. Without melatonin, you may suffer from insomnia, making it more difficult for your body to recover. Sleep provides a much needed opportunity for health regeneration. When sleep is interrupted by a toxic light environment, people begin to experience more serious health issues. If you are looking to heal your body holistically and have only focused on diet, start looking at your light environment and lifestyle to see where you can make circadian improvements.
