Thomas Lang: Drum God Mode, Practice Secrets, Clinics, Social Media Trends with guest Luke Holland! Episode 75: Thomas Lang. Thomas Lang is one of the best drummers of all time. His drive and focused, intentional practice has led to him being one of the most sophisticated drummers, producers, and composers, with the ability to do four-limb separation beyond pretty much anyone else. On top of that ability, he is musical! He's also a great human, impressive entrepreneur, and a fun guy to hang with. In this episode, we dive deep into his story, how he became the Thomas Lang we see today — both in his skill sets and his success. We talk about how he throws his drum camps, his insane clinics (he did the biggest clinic tour of all time), how to practice correctly, what to do and what not to do. You'll also get a glimpse into his great personality and mindset. Luke Holland jumped in and joined us in this interview as well, which was fun since we're all friends. Together we talked about something you all want to know — our least favorite social media drumming trends lol. More importantly, keeping the inspiration to continue drumming, and so much more. Primo Levi. Superviviente de Auschwitz. The Jewish Chronicle.

It's Midday at the Movies, our monthly look at films, filmmaking and the movie experience. Today Tom is joined once again by Jed Dietz, the founding director of the Maryland Film Festival. Midday's other regular movie maven, Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday, is away this week. Jed and Tom discuss some of the highlights of the recent Maryland Film Festival, which ran May 19-27, including filmmaker icon John Waters' memorable hosting of the Druid Hill Park "drive-in movie" event, and screenings of a trove of locally produced films. They also talk about the continuing nationwide wave of movie-house re-openings, as state pandemic restrictions are eased or lifted and theater owners coax patrons back with subscription packages, luxury seating and advance online food and concession ordering. Jed spotlights some of the new films taking advantage of those returning big- screen audiences, including Disney's new over-the-top prequel, Cruella, starring Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, and the sci-fi thriller, A Quiet Place 2, a powerful sequel to the 2018 hit, with Jim Krasinski and Emily Blunt back to very quietly get their family through an alien invasion. And Final Account, director Luke Holland's chilling documentary about the indoctrination of a generation of Germans by Hitler's Third Reich, is captivating audiences at the reopened Charles Theater.Jed Dietz joins us on Zoom. This week we review - Hitmen (Series 3 Episode 4) Paul Whitehouse is an experienced fisherman; Bob Mortimer is a complete novice. Their friendship stretches back for decades, but they've recently reconnected after both suffering very serious heart problems and each staring death in the face.Paul has suggested to Bob that he take up fishing to help recover from his triple heart bypass. Now, these two much loved comedians tour the country to fish side by side in some of the most picturesque landscapes the UK has to offer.Across the half-hour episodes they dissect life, death and comedy. Paul is in charge of the fishing while Bob is in charge of the accommodation and cooking heart-healthy food. From recipes, regrets, relationships and rituals; to childhood, comedy and the countryside, the pair discuss everything alongside the ever-present shadows of showbiz and mortality.Produced by Nicky Waltham, Stephanie Fyfe and Luke Holland.Directed By Rob Gill.An Owl Power Production for BBC.Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing is available here: https://bbc.in/2ZW5j9t The Comedy Slab Podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spreaker, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, Spotify and Youtube. Dustin Bates from Starset is the latest guest on the show. While I've never met Dustin in-person, I love talking to him. He's one of the most diverse rockers I've ever talked with. I'm usually the dumbest person in any conversation, today, it couldn't be truer! We discuss the new Starset album, that drops on September 13th. He talks about the writing, recording and  "cinematic" approach they take in their music. He defines Starset, tells me about DJENT guitars - which I've never heard of - and what influences and inspires him. We get into some sci-fi movie talk, the pressure of putting out new music as well as working with Youtube drummer, Luke Holland. Putting together the live show is a big thing with this band and Dustin pulls the curtain back on how it's done. Spinal Tap moments, there's been a few. He tells me about working with Adam from Saint Asonia and he tells me about some of his favorite gadgets...and some of these are very cool! Al Beck is back to bring the pod down with Rock News. LOL....It's TOOL day, as the new album drops, so we talk about that. A Fyre Festival band gets sued, Dave Grohl news, Pink Floyd releasing a box-set and Disturbed releases a really cool video for a live track that you can watch here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDKjKM8CmXA Hope you dig this podcast.
