A concert was held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on October 28th and 29th, 1964 which would be released as a concert film called the T.A.M.I. Show.  Free tickets were provided for local high school students to provide the audience.  T.A.M.I. stands for either “Teenage Awards Music International” or “Teen Age Music International,” as both were used by the show's publicity team.  The show included many of the top rock and roll and R&B musicians of the time, including the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, James Brown, Chuck Berry, and The Miracles.  Jan and Dean were the emcees for the event.  Motown Records was represented by three of its biggest acts in the Miracles, Marvin Gay, and the Supremes.  The Rolling Stones were featured as the grand finale.  However, the performance by James Brown and the Famous Flames is perhaps the highlight of the show, as it features his dance moves at the height of his career.  Steve Binder and his personnel from The Steve Allen Show shot the film, and the legendary session musicians of The Wrecking Crew provided most of the instrumentation.  The go-go dancers in the background were choreographed by David Winters and his assistant, a young Toni Basil. This is a difficult film to locate due to copyright disputes on the show over the years.  You'll need to go to YouTube to find the performances.Wayne takes us through this concert footage of the early days of rock and roll. (Here They Come) from All Over the World by Jan and DeanThe film starts with a song from Jan and Dean which is played over the credits.  Jan and Dean co-hosted the concert and contributed this anthem written for the show.  It has a surfing vibe and is easily confused for The Beach Boys who also participated in the concert.Hey Little Bird by The BarbariansThe Barbarians were a precursor to the Punk movement, and their style was called garage rock in the day.  The Barbarians had a one-handed drummer who utilized a drum stick in his left arm with a hook prosthetic.  The group sported a pirate look with leather sandals, open necked shirts, and bloused sleeves.Out of Sight by James Brown and the Famous FlamesMany consider the highlight of the show to be James Brown's performance, as it showcases his dance moves.  The energy shown by Brown and his backing singers clearly influenced future acts like Michael Jackson and Prince.Around and Around by The Rolling StonesWhile the Rolling Stones were the final act, Keith Richards claims that choosing to follow James Brown on stages was the worst decision of their careers, because no matter how well they performed, they couldn't top him.  They performed a cover of Chuck Berry's song - an interesting choice since Berry was also a performer for the concert. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Do the Clam by Elvis Presley (from the motion picture “Girl Happy”)Elvis was making movies at the time, and would almost always be expected to sing songs in the picture. STAFF PICKS:Nowhere to Run by Martha & the VandellasBruce leads off the staff picks with a group which would see a name change to Martha Reeves & the Vandellas later on.  This Motown hit written by the legendary team called Holland-Dozier-Holland went to number 8 on the US charts.  The song is about a woman trapped in a downward spiraling love affair that she just can't give up.Land of 1000 Dances by Cannibal and the HeadhuntersRob features an iteration of a frequently covered song.  Chris Kenner originally recorded it in 1962, but it was more successful as a cover by Cannibal & the Headhunters, going to number 30 on the Billboard chart.  They also added the "na na na na na" hook to the original when front man Frankie Garcia forgot the lyrics.  Sixteen dances are mentioned in the lyrics of the song.Eight Days a Week by The Beatles Lynch brings us an early hit penned by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.  It would be the seventh number one single for the Fab Four in the United States, despite Lennon's feeling that it was a failed attempt at writing a single.  The title is attributed to a statement Ringo Starr made regarding how busy the Beatles were at the time.Satisfied by Lulu and the LuvversWayne wraps up the staff picks with a high energy party song from a Scottish band.  Lulu would go on to a successful solo career that included film songs like "To Sir With Love," and the title song for "The Man with the Golden Gun."  Lulu was 17 at the time this song came out.  She would go on to marry Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees.   INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Cast Your Fate to the Wind by Sounds OrchestralThis week's podcast ends with an instrumental song

Episode 156: In Conversation with Grant Walters, co-author of “Decades: The Bee Gees in the 1970s” If you follow the podcast on any of the below social media accounts, then you probably know that Brian got heavily into the Bee Gees over the past couple of years, after watching the excellent HBO documentary How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. He has now amassed quite a collection of vinyl records and CDs by the Brothers Gibb, and he's also been eager to read any books about them he can get his hands on.  Until recently, such books were hard to find. However, Grant Walters, Andrew Môn Hughes and Mark Crohan have combined their writing talents and their encyclopedic knowledge of the Bee Gees to develop a book series covering the career of the Bee Gees, a decade at a time. The second book in the series, Decades: The Bee Gees in the 1970s, has just recently been released in the UK, and is soon to be released in the US. Brian and Sarah had the great pleasure of talking with Grant Walters about the new book, and they also learned more about Grant and his many talents, how he came to know Andrew and Mark, and how the book series came about.   The 1970s was quite a roller coaster of a decade for Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, and the discussion addresses such topics as the breakup and re-formation of the Bee Gees; their challenges with songwriting and chart success in the early 1970s; their work with Arif Mardin, and of course, Saturday Night Fever. You reach a point in your life where you finally realize, who you are is more important than what you think you're supposed to be in the world. That's when you take the stand to say, "Sorry, not sorry," and then write an amazing song about that exact subject. Drawing upon her own talent and DNA as daughter of Maurice Gibb - one third of BeeGees fame - Samantha Gibb, shares how she has come to a space where showing her true colors as a musical talent, and as an authentic person is the only way to put Good Lovin, out in the world. About Samantha Samantha was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida and now lives in Nashville, TN. Sam's father, legendary Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, vastly influenced her life and her music. She has said, “Growing up watching my father and my uncles really set the bar for what kind of musician and songwriter I wanted to be”. In 2004, after her father passed away, Sam partnered with Lazaro Rodriguez, creating M.E.G. Records/M.E.G. Productions (M.E.G. being the acronym for her father's initials, Maurice Ernest Gibb). “It was a way for me to keep my dad's personal studio alive and making sure the instruments would always be played.” Samantha has said. In 2007, along with her band and studio, Sam relocated to Nashville, TN. Upon arriving, Sam began to work on a music documentary called “A Nashville State of Mind”. The film was inspired by the musicians she met and the evolving music scene she encountered while living in East Nashville at that time. “A Nashville State of Mind” was accepted into over 15 film festivals and won the best international music doc in 2008 at the LA/NY International film and music festival. In 2010, her band, Samantha Gibb and The Cartel, crossed the pond for her first U.K. tour to promote her album “Wrong Side”. Later that year, they followed up with an acoustic tour of the East Coast. In February 2012, Sam performed at the Hard Rock Live in Ft. Lauderdale with her Uncle, Barry Gibb. With great success from the show, she continued to tour with her uncle on his Mythology Tour where she performed in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland and North America until 2014. In the beginning of 2015, Sam sang with again with her uncle at the Miami Beach Centennial show in Miami Beach, FL. In 2016, Sam began to work on a tribute album for her father and her uncles (Robin Gibb, Barry Gibb, and Andy Gibb), titled “The Gibb Collective”. The song titled “Please Don't Turn Out the Lights” brought together her family, including the eldest children of Barry, Maurice, Robin, and Andy. The album included covers of their music with a different style and new flavor. The album was released in 2017 for Father's Day. In 2021, she collaborated with award winning country singer-songwriter Kyle Jacobs on her single, “Spiraling" and later that year she released “Christmas in a Small Town” which she wrote with Kyle Jacobs and another award winning songwriter, Tony Wood. In July of this year she released her newest singles “Good Lovin'” and followed up with “Sorry, Not Sorry” at the end of September. Samantha's writing is unique and has a versatile musical sound that blends perfectly with her sultry vocals. Bob Barry's Unearthed Interviews

The Bee Gees had a string of hits in the 60s and 70s. Maurice Gibb was one of the members of the brother group, the Bee Gees, one of the most successful pop groups of all-time.   Maurice's career started at the age of six in a skiffle rock and roll group named the “Rattlesnakes,” which later became the Bee Gees. His early musical influences included the Beatles, Everly Brothers, the Mills Brothers and Paul Anka. Maurice was the fraternal twin of Robin Gibb. On Dec. 28 1957, the brothers were invited to perform at a local movie theater. They planned to sing along to a 78 rpm record, but they dropped and broke the record so they had to sing live. They sang “Wake Up Little Susie” by the Everly Brothers. The audience thought they were great and they were on their way to stardom.

Dancing and Spinning the Supersounds of the Disco Kings not only is fun but brings backs memories of a time with the Crystal Ball Ruled. House DJ Johnny puts us in a time capsule of disco bliss.    The Bee Gees were a music group formed in 1958, featuring brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio was especially successful as a popular music act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and later as prominent performers of the disco music era in the mid-to-late 1970s. The group sang recognizable three-part tight harmonies; Robin's clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the mid-to-late 1970s and 1980s. The Bee Gees wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists. The Bee Gees have occasionally been referred to as The Disco Kings.

As Bob Burtman would say, "Icksnay on the uck-fay" as the Parliament Funkadelic live version of "Tear The Roof Off" commenced to play.  Some songs that James Brown made famous and then decided to rerecord. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.   James Brown - I Feel Good (1975) Not the version you're used to hearing.  James Brown - Problems (1975) If you Google "James Brown" and "Problems", it will take a LONG time to get to this song.  James Brown - It's A New Day (1970) My favorite song by JB.  Parliament-Funkadelic - Tear The Roof Off (Live 1976) Do not listen if the swears offend you.  The Clash - Radio Clash (Remix) (1980) African Music Machine - Mr. Brown (1974) Chuck Brown - B.A.D. (1984) George McCrae - I Get Lifted (1974) From Wikipedia: He was about to return to college to study law enforcement, when Richard Finch and Harry Wayne Casey of KC and the Sunshine Band invited him to sing the lyrics for a song that they had recorded for the band, but could not reach the high notes that were required for the song. The original intention was that Gwen, his wife, should record it, but she was late for the session and George recorded alone. The rest is history! Finch and Casey began their decade-long chart dominance. People don't recall what a big influence the Miami Sound had on dance floors and AM radios all over the country. You just can't fake those grooves.  Jimmy “Bo” Horne - Let Me (Be Your Lover) (1978) Sampled by Stereo MC's to fine effect.  Jimmy “Bo” Horne - Dance Across The Floor (1978)  Ron Louis Smith - Make Me Know It (1978) Ronald Louis Smith is the original KC and the Sunshine Band trumpet player and the leader of the horn section and choreographer. He created all the dance moves the band was famous for. The Sunshine Band was formerly called the Ocean Liner Band. Ronald Louis Smith wrote/produced the hit disco record "Spank" artist Jimmy Bo Horne. He arranged and played the trumpet parts in the big reggae record "Buffalo Soldier" by Bob Marley. He also worked with Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine at Miami Sound Studio. Chicago - What's This World Coming To (1973) I love Chicago albums V, VI, and VII. As good a trio of records any group recorded in the '70s consecutively, except for Stevie.  Bobby Rydell - Sway (1976) This is not the original 1960 hit, but an attempt to modernize through the demon known at the time as Disco. Many, many artists rode the train to sadness. Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Kate Smith, Bobby Hebb, so so many.  Frank Sinatra - All Or Nothing At All (1977) This is not the original 1939 hit, but an attempt to modernize through the demon known at the time as Disco. Many, many artists rode the train to sadness. Bobby Rydell, Sammy Davis, Kate Smith, Bobby Hebb, so so many.  The Beach Boys - Here Comes The Night (1979)  This is not the original 1967 song, but an attempt to modernize through the demon known at the time as Disco. Many, many artists rode the train to sadness. Ringo Starr, Rod Stewart, The Hollies, so so many. Osmonds - I, I, I (1979) Produced by Maurice Gibb. No answer from Robin or Barry.  Jeff Lynne - Goin' Down To Rio (1977) From his two-sided dance single. Attendant dance steps on the cover. He was in The Move.  Bobby Hebb - Sunny '76 (1976) Neil Diamond - Dancing In The Streets (1979) Elton John - Thunder In The Night (1979) Lawrence Hilton Jacobs - Kiss and Tell (1979) Maureen McGovern - I'm Happy Just To Dance With You (1979) Sammy David Jr. - We'll Make It This Time (Theme from "Kojak") (1976) Tom Jones - Don't Cry For Me, Argentina (1979)

The Red Panda's diverse sound. Today's topic .. The Bee GeesThe Bee Gees were a music group formed in 1958. Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. They were a trio and were especially successful as a popular music act in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The group had three-part tight harmonies; Robin had a vibrato. Barry was the R&B falsetto which became their signature sound during the mid-to-late 1970s and 80s. The Bee Gees wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists. They sold over 120 million records worldwide (with estimates as high as over 220 million) making them among the best selling music artists of all time. I love the Bee Gees. You might think of their hit Staying Alive while walking I'm sure after seeing the movie Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta. It was a great 1977 dance musical film. I love all of the Bee Gees' songsHow Deep is Your LoveTragedyYou Should Be DancingToo Much HeavenAnd there were many more. The Bee Gees is a musical singing group you just can't forget in music. Barry Gibb - The Victim (unreleased) (1969)  Jimmy Ruffin & Marcy Levy - Where Do I Go? (1980) His big hit was "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" which was originally intended for The Spinners. He is the older brother of David Ruffin. Marcy Levy was a veteran of the studio by this time. In this show, I talk about her time with Shakespeare's Sister. To little effect.  Marcy Levy & Robin Gibb - Help Me! (1980) From Wikipedia: After working on Jimmy Ruffin's Sunrise (including the track "Where Do I Go", a duet by Ruffin and Marcy Levy) Robin Gibb and Bee Gees keyboardist Blue Weaver work together again by supplying tracks for the soundtrack of the film Times Square. And the result was the song "Help Me!" sung by Levy and Gibb. The song was heard in the film's closing credits. I like the XTC song "Take This Town". I recommend this movie to both of you.  Lulu - Everybody Clap (1971) Trivia question to stump the room. Name a song that includes members of Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Bee Gees, and Stone The Crows.  It's this one.  Lulu — lead vocals Maurice Gibb — guitar, background vocals Leslie Harvey — guitar (Alex Harvey's brother. Look him up for the troubled tale of an ungrounded mic.)  Jack Bruce — bass John Bonham — drums How about that? Lulu was Maurice Gibbs' wife. She had a pretty good solo career in the '60s. Her biggest hit was "To Sir With Love". Yeah! That was the gal that let Maurice touch her all over.  Angela, Ken, and I - Jive Talkin'  Angela, Ken, and I - Run To Me  Angela's Utah Stories The Osmonds - I, I, I (1979) Produced by Maurice Gibb. Maurice Gibb - Modulating Maurice (1969) Gibb was a session musician in Australia for other artists including Bip Addison, Anne Shelton, April Bryon, Barrington Davis, and singer Jon. Around 1969, Gibb worked with his next-door neighbor, Beatle Ringo Starr, and the result was the track "Modulating Maurice" but it was not released. But here it is, for you.  The Bee Gees - Lovers (1976)  Angela, Ken, and I - Stayin' Alive  Angela, Ken, and I - How Can You Mend A Broken Heart  Angela, Ken, and I - Centerpiece  Angela, Ken, and I - How Deep Is Your Love Go to https://www.angelabinghamvoice.com/ Her album is here. She probably doesn't recall doing this show, but I FINALLY got around to downloading it. WHAT FUN we had!  Robin Gibb - Trash (1979)  The Bee Gees - Claustrophobia (1965)  The Bee Gees - She Came In Through The Bathroom Window (1976) Listen for the little piccolo phrase after "And so I quit the police department..." If that doesn't make your insides curl up in terror, I don't know what will. This little pop experiment inadvertently gave birth to the "Sgt. Pepper" movie.  The Fut - Have You Heard The Word? (1969) It's pronounced "foot". "Have You Heard the Word" was recorded on 6 August 1969. That day, Maurice Gibb had broken his arm falling down a flight of stairs. He showed up wearing a cast and shot full of painkillers, and he proceeded to take advantage of the open bar in the studio. Kipner and Groves were not happy with this listless song to begin with, and as the session deteriorated, they left. Maurice put on tape his best John Lennon vocal impression and somehow played bass as well in his distinctive style. Lawrie recalls that he might have been there too, but admits his memory of the late 1960s is none too good. This song was credited to The Fut. Years later, Gibb said that he had no idea how that happened. The record appeared in early 1970, with rumors that this song was one of The Beatles, perhaps a bootleg recording. The recording was so plausible as a Lennon song that Yoko Ono [Ed: Ever the pragmatist] and Lenono Music, cleaning house in 1985, registered a copyright on it as a song written by John Lennon, even though Lennon had earlier denied participation in this song.  Angela, Ken, and I - Massachusetts Frank Lydon - Fonzie Meets Kotter's Sweathogs (At The School Dance) (1976) Angela, Ken, and I - More Than a Woman  Angela, Ken, and I - Night Fever  Angela, Ken, and I - Tragedy  Angela, Ken, and I - Nights on Broadway

This week the WTWF guys look at the various bootleg releases of the Beatles January 1969 "Get Back" sessions.    The earliest Beatles bootlegs came about from leaks of the Glyn Johns acetates that were reviewed in "Rolling Stone" a few months later.       Then throughout the seventies, the Nagra Reels tapes served as the source of some of the more interesting Underground releases.     Finally, through the CD and Internet age, the majority of the tapes (over 100 hours) were collated and made available to those who know where to look.

Today is the birthday of Lady Bird Johnson, the wife of U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson. Here are some things you may not have known about her. She was born Claudia Alta Taylor in Karnack, Texas in 1912. When she was a baby, her nurse said that she was as “purty as a ladybird” and the nickname stuck. Her father was the son of a sharecropper, who became a wealthy landowner and businessman. Her mother died when Lady Bird was five years old of complications from a miscarriage suffered after she fell down a flight of stairs. Lady Bird was raised largely by her mother’s sister Effie, who moved to Texas after her mother’s death. To attend high school, Lady Bird moved in with a family in the town of Jefferson, Texas. She graduated third in her class after letting her grades slip so she wouldn’t have to give a valedictorian speech at her graduation ceremony. She attended the University of Alabama for a summer before returning to Texas and enrolling at St. Mary’s Episcopal College for Women, a junior college in Dallas. After graduation, she enrolled at the University of Texas, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history and another in journalism. In 1934, she met Lyndon Baines Johnson, who was working for Congressman Richard Kleberg. Johnson proposed marriage on their first date. Lady Bird accepted 10 weeks later and they were married in November 1934 in San Antonio, Texas. They had two daughters, Lynda Bird and Luci Baines, meaning all four family members had the initials LBJ; five if you include their dog “Little Beagle Johnson.“ Lady Bird used $10,000 of her inheritance from her mother to help fund Lyndon’s first campaign for Congress, which he won. While in office, Lyndon enlisted in the Navy and Lady Bird ran his congressional office. In 1943, Lady Bird used another part of her inheritance to buy a radio station in Austin, Texas. In 1952, she bought a television station as well. The media properties made her the first president’s wife to become a millionaire in her own right. Lyndon Johnson served in the House of Representatives from 1937 until 1949, when he won election to the Senate after a highly controversial Democratic primary election. He eventually rose to become the Senate Majority Leader. In 1960 he decided to run for president. He was unsuccessful, but ended up nominated to be vice president under John F. Kennedy. During the campaign, Lady Bird Johnson filled in for Jacqueline Kennedy at many events, during Kennedy’s pregnancy. Kennedy and Johnson were elected in November 1960 and took office the next January. Lady Bird continued to fill in at events the first lady couldn’t attend. In November 1963, John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Lyndon Baines Johnson became the 36th President of the United States. As first lady, Lady Bird Johnson became well known for several beautification projects. The first, the Society for a More Beautiful National Capital, focused on improving conditions in Washington, D.C. She worked to protect wildflowers and plant them along highways. Later she pushed the Highway Beautification Act to limit billboards and plant flowers along highways across the country. The act became known as “Lady Bird’s Bill.” She also convinced her husband to run for his own term as president in 1964. She campaigned tirelessly for him and helped him defeat Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater in the general election. Lyndon Johnson did not run for re-election in 1968 and the couple retired to their ranch 50 miles west of Austin. Lyndon Johnson died of a heart attack in 1973. Lady Bird Johnson continued to represent her husband at events for the next 30 years. She served on the board of regents of the University of Texas and on the board of trustees of the National Geographic Society. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 1988. She died on July 11, 2007, at the age of 94. Our question, in 1982, a poll of historians ranked Lady Bird Johnson as the third most influential and important first lady. Who ranked ahead of her? It’s Armed Forces Day in Vietnam, Mother’s Day in Indonesia and National Mathematics Day in India. It’s unofficially National Cookie Exchange Day and National Date Nut Bread Day. It’s the birthday of actress Barbara Billingsley, musicians Robin and Maurice Gibb; and artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Algunas de sus canciones mas populares son Stayin' Alive (Disco), Night Fever (Disco), Tragedy (rock), More than a woman, How deep is your love, The Woman in you,"You Win Again" entre otras.

Since it was licensed to be used on radio shows and podcasts, I decided to share this mix with all of you. This mix includes many of Jimmy Michaels remixes of their songs and is a great retrospective of this amazing band. I hope you all enjoy this and I'll be posting a brand new mix by the end of this week before I leave on vacation :)
