Welcome to another Q&A show - this week we cover tax free cash from DB pensions, annuities vs drawdown and whether you should pay down a buy to let mortgage or invest. Plus quite a bit more! Shownotes: https://meaningfulmoney.tv/QA9  Questions 00:41 Question 1 Hi Pete and Roger. Thanks for your wisdom over the years. My question came about from an answer you gave on a previous Q&A about AVCs and tax free cash. You mentioned it was possible (sometimes) to use AVCs as tax free cash to preserve the maximum DB benefit. I have some follow up questions that relate to - A small DB pension that doesn't appear to offer tax free cash. - A small DB pension that does offer tax free cash, but I have left that job so can no longer contribute to that pension (AVCs or otherwise) I don't have AVCs in these pensions, but I do have a DC pot separately. Would I be able to use take tax free money from my DC pension if I took it at the same time I took the DB pension sort of in lieu of the tax free component of my overall pension? I suspect this is clutching at straws, but thought it worth checking. Many thanks. Loyal listener, Mark 03:11 Question 2 Hi Pete & Roger! I hail from Northern Ireland and enjoy your Podcast to keep my mind active and up to date in all things financial - Top job. I have been looking at having a go at Voyant after various spreadsheets of my own as a way to play with the numbers so was considering a meaningful academy course - question is which course is right for me? I am in mid 40's and financially secure so in theory wealth all ready built? Mortgage paid, multiple residential and commercial properties owned debt free and an sizeable equity portfolio and so should I be looking at the retirement or wealth course? John   05:30 Question 3 Great podcast and been an avid listener for the last year. I have a question which, I think I know the answer but I'd be curious on your perspective. Background: - I divorced in 2021 and as part of that agreed to transfer the house over to my ex-wife and a charge put on the deeds so that when it's sold I'm owed a percentage of the sale. - The house going on the market will be (or should be) triggered when my youngest son reaches 18 or leaves full-time education. This will be either 2028 or 2031. - Since the divorce I've been able to purchase another house and this is my permanent residence. I'm a higher rate tax payer, and when that ex-marital home is sold I'd expect to get somewhere around £200k. However I won't actually need that to hit my retirement goals and would prefer to pass that onto my 3 kids. Could you please discuss options on how I might do that in the most tax efficient way. Best Regards, Dave   10:38 Question 4 Hello Pete & Rog, I stumbled across the show a month ago and have been "binge listening" since then, its amazing, where have you been all my life, keep it up guys. I am actively preaching the Gospel according to Pete to all and sundry. I am a 61 years old Veteran in receipt of a Military (DB) pension to the amount of £18k per annum, which is index linked to CPI. Additional to this, I have a moderate private pension to the amount of £150k which I contribute £500 per month, it has an approx growth of circa 15% I also have a small Stocks and Shares ISA, valued at £15k which I contribute a minimum of £250 per month, this is also growing at approx 14% pa. I am currently working and contributing the minimum amount into a work placed pension with NEST. I am planning to look at retirement at either my next birthday in October 25 (62yrs old) or continue until 65 as I am enjoying work. I have deliberately avoiding factoring in my wife as she is a senior manager within the public sector and has a good DB scheme Final/Average earnings Pension. My question is pension related and I have a dilemma as to decide between either an Annuity to boost my Mil Pension or veer towards a form of drawdown option at a higher rate until SPA and then look to reduce down withdrawals in order to be tax efficient and make it last longer? I am debt free with mortgage paid off and only real major expense is a holiday account which we both contribute to as we like luxury holidays, I hear Rog saying "spend it now". No plans to put anything towards estate planning as both sons are very successful and they will probably inherit our home in time. Just looking for some guidance on what feels may be the right decision under the circumstances, keep up the great work guys, love the show. Michael   16:34 Question 5 Dear Pete & Rog, I have a pensions Annual Allowance query, the answer to which might be of interest to the MeMo community. A relative uses salary sacrifice for her occupational DC pension scheme, and the employer contributes £40k, annually, into her plan. Normally, she doesn't make any personal contributions into any pension schemes, but after receiving a windfall, she is minded to do so via a newly opened SIPP — she has rejected the option of increasing her salary sacrifice amount, and wishes to contribute part of her windfall separately from her occupational DC scheme. Her (post-sacrifice) relevant UK earnings are £35k, so she is planning to contribute £20k gross into the SIPP (£16k net); in order to consume the full Annual Allowance limit of £60k [£40k (employer) + £20k (personal)]. The SIPP provider has advised her that she can actually contribute the whole £35k (gross) by using ‘carry forward'; as she hasn't made any personal contributions in previous years [she's only ever used salary sacrifice]. Is the SIPP provider correct? Kind Regards, James   18:15 Question 6 Husband and I are in our late 50's. We have a £30k interest only mortgage on our home, with £350k of interest only mortgages on 3 buy to let's. Husband has £350k in personal pension and I have a civil service pension (I have taken my final salary element of civil service pension). My B2L' s give £2300 income per month against associated costs of £1100 per month. My question is around reducing our borrowing versus investing in stocks and shares ISA. I have been comfortable in having my buy to let's on interest only mortgages but I am now questioning my approach. We are intending holding at least 2 of the 3 properties throughout our retirement. I am thinking of using the next 5 years to position ourselves for our retirement. I could start to invest £500 into a stocks and shares ISA or I could pay down the mortgages. I am torn between approaches and would value your input on this. I have only just discovered your podcast and it is now a weekly listen for me. I hope I have explained this fully and look forward to hearing your views. Helen.

" Patrick Rieger emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, My family and I have been busy the past month with a stop at our favorite pub and two renaissance festivals, so I'll be sending a few emails about the incredible musicians we enjoyed. On August 24, we went to Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle to see John McCann and Hamish, and an hour after they started everyone, including John and Hamish, got a surprise: the third member of the Corned Beef and Curry Band dropped in, Bob Banerjee. Bob is the most incredible fiddle player I have ever seen, and he has an endless number of bad jokes. He is the curry in the band's name, having been born in India. So for a few hours, this great band was back together. Irish musician Mark Guiser was in the audience that night, and was invited onto the stage for a few songs. Two wedding parties then dropped in for some post - reception fun. The energy, excitement and fun hadn't been that high at the Harp in a long time, and my wife and I only left because our son needed to get to bed. In one photo is The Corned Beef & Curry Band, from left to right, John McCann, Bob Banerjee, and Hamish, In the other, Mark Guiser and Bob. They were playing Hallelujah with Mark singing."

Should they be more willing to work out differences with the Five Secrets of Communication? Marc asks: In your book, When Panic Attacks, you mentioned that sometimes people feel “trapped.” What should you do when you're struggling with this feeling?   1. Bosley asks: My father can be very critical of my plans for the future. What's the best way to respond to him? "To explain somewhat concisely, I just want to move to the nearest major city (Seattle) since I feel really really happy there. I also love volunteering for a specific organization and have some community there that I care about, and I feel very isolated having been away from for months. I'm willing to carry the load of all the work I would need to do to make it happen, and do a business training my dad wants me to complete. He has other thoughts. He looks down on volunteering and his thoughts on friends are simply that I can make new ones anyway. He is very aggressive and intimidating in his arguments, full of insults and many factually incorrect statements that are difficult to disarm on the fly. He shoots down the idea upon mention, so it's difficult to collaborate to find mutually beneficial solutions. He is a successful businessman, despite recent financial issues, and has a sort of strict plan for me that he has wanted me to follow, although I really don't feel this conflicts with his goals to have me run things in the future. I'm just worried since he has a long past of being emotionally abusive and of going back on his word. Plus, I just want some autonomy. In the end, it's his way or the highway. He says “You keep scheming and going down a twisted path instead of doing what I tell you.” David's reply I suggested he might complete the first four steps of the Relationship Journal so we could see how he's communicating with his dad. Here is Bosley's partially partially completed Relationship Journal (showing steps 1 to 4, but not 5.)   Step 1 – S/he said: Write down exactly what the other person said. Be brief: You keep scheming and going down a twisted path instead of doing what I tell you! Step 2 – I said: Write down exactly what you said next. Be brief: What? Bad Communication: Was your response an example of good or bad communication? Use the EAR Checklist to analyze what you wrote down in Step 2 Step 4 – Consequences: Did your response in Step 2 make the problem better or worse? Why? It probably made things worse. I came off dismissive, which probably confirmed for him that I automatically ignored any advice or direction that he gave me. I wasn't assertive in fear of escalating anger or just being shut down anyway, but that also maintains the status quo. I didn't, and typically don't, show a caring respectful attitude. This, I think, allows his anger to continue snowballing into more intensity. 2. Willie asks why women he's dating “ghost” him instead of working out the problems in the relationship using the techniques in your book, Feeling Good Together. Good morning, Dr. Burns! I hope you are doing well! I want to start off by saying that I love your books and they've played a massive role in changing my personality for the better. However, there is a question I struggle with. In feeling good together, you say that one can keep status quo, solve their problem, or walk away from a relationship. I lean very strongly on the side of always wanting to solve problems. However, at my age, most of girls I date err on the side of just walking away and this opens me up for unnecessary headache and pain. I don't know where to draw the line? My heart says that any two reasonable adults can always make a relationship work given that at least one wants to make things better and, unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case in my experiences. Your insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for taking the time! Best Regards, Willie David's reply Thank you, Willie, I'd love to use this as an Ask David question for one of the podcasts, if that's okay, using your first name or a fake name if you prefer. Here's the super short answer. I wrote a book on that exact topic called Intimate Connections. Essentially you probably need to learn a little more about how to “play the game” when dating. You'll see what this means when you read the book. Warmly, david Willie's Response: Good morning, Dr. Burns! Frankly, I was not expecting a response at all, much less as quick as it was. For this, I truly want to thank you for taking the time to do so. Secondly, it will be my honor if you do bring it up to your podcast. Please don't use my first name - I'd prefer staying anonymous. Please do let me know which podcast this will be so I can give it a listen as well. Lastly, thank you so much for referring me to your book. That will be my next read so I am super excited. If you have any other books which you believe are worth reading which will be beneficial in the dating world, corporate world, etc., please point me to those. I absolutely love your books and their effects on me have been immeasurable. Thank you! Willie I wrote back and suggested we could use the fake name Willie, as he wanted to remain anonymous, and he responded: Now that you say, Willie is definitely sexier! Question: when are you planning on doing the next episode with this question in it? I wouldn't want to miss it.   Here was my response to “Willie.” We'll just read your question, and then provide opinions. My career in private practice has a majority of single individuals who were trying unsuccessfully to connect in the dating world. That's why I wrote that book, which is intensely personal as I was the biggest loser of all for a long time because I was a minister's son and never learned how to “play the game” or be a “bad boy.” But I learned from a friend who was a “hustler” when I was in medical school. I learned a tremendous amount, including that there is a game-playing phase in dating, and a time to be more serious, open and vulnerable. The biggest mistake men make is trying to get too serious when they should be playing the game. What's the game? Well, you'd know if you ever had or loved a cat. If you chase them enthusiastically, you force them to run away. You have to learn how to make them chase you. Many men are stubborn about this, and lamely insist, “But I shouldn't have to play the game!” My answer would be, “You don't! Especially if you don't want to get laid and have lots of ladies chasing you!” Warmly, david   Willie's response This is extremely valuable to me. I never knew that you come from a religious background and I do too so I do want to ask you some more questions / share my experience. One pattern I am noticing is that either Muslim ladies have a lot of religious trauma or they have very strict conservative values - usually a combination of both. In the modern world, I try using dating apps and might get matched with someone 2-3 states away so usually we would hop on a FaceTime and the topic of religion almost always comes up. And, due to differing opinions, they just walk away which deeply upsets me because they make the false assumption that humans are snapshots in time i.e., opinions / perspectives don't change. In fact, a personal experience I would like to share with you. I was in a relationship for 1.5 yrs (long distance) and it just ended 1-2 months ago. Our intention was always to get married. However, a few weeks before breaking up with me, she basically said "oh you don't pray and I cannot even imagine my future husband not praying etc etc" and she ended things with me on that. I even tried using the 5 methods of effective communication to acknowledge and validate her opinions while simultaneously sharing mine but she was dead set and did not even want to think about working on problems. How could I "play the game" in such instances or over long distances?   David's response Hi Willie, The principles of dating are the same in all cultures for the most part, and one rule is “Never chase a distancer.” So, when she switches to religion, you could use the listen skills subset of the Five Secrets, and buy in to what she's saying, WITHOUT arguing or presenting your own thinking. You can admire her, urge her to tell you more about her religious feelings and spiritual life, using liberal Thought and Feeling Empathy, and lots of Disarming Techniques, and Stroking, with Gentle Inquiry. You would NOT chase, or try to persuade, or argue, or defend yourself. Be totally admiring and other-centered at those times. If she says she wants to break up, you might say that you've been sensing some distance, and are relieved that she is doing that, because you, too, would like to date other women, but that the two of you can still be friends if she promises not to get romantically involved with you, and that you will be on the lookout for some really great guys she might want to date. This is a paradoxical approach, and it is an art form. And I can also tell you to date other women immediately, and the moment you find one you like better than her, she will find out, even if no one tells her, and she will likely want you back again. That's because of the Burns rule, which states: “People NEVER want what they CAN have; they ONLY want they CAN'T have!” Now, if you tell me this approach is phony, I would tell you that you're 200% right! And it's not only incredibly phony, it's amazingly effective! And a kinder word that “phony” might be to say that when someone starts pulling away, you have to switch into this style and strategic approach, and stop trying to be loving and sincere or logical, etc. Do NOT chase, simply open your hands and let go. It's the exact same strategy you might use to get close to a cat! Best, david Hi Willie, If you'd like, you can send me an example of what one of the Muslim ladies said to you, and exactly what you said next. Please select an interaction that didn't go well. Then I can analyze your response and suggest some alternative ways to respond in a dating situation. In fact, if you like, you can record it on the Relationship Journal that I've attached. Please fill in steps 1 through 4. Please do this right away as we record tomorrow. Best, david   Hi Dr. Burns, I cannot even tell you how much these emails are already changing my outlook. I truly want to thank you for taking the time and responding to these. One thing that caught my eye is the paradoxical approach. I never thought about it. In my mind, I feel you should work on relationships / never let go but if letting go is working on it, then that is something I really need to do. I am attaching two copies of the Relationship journal. One dealing with the topic of drugs and one with prayer. One thing I will tell you is that I usually bring these topics up myself because, in my mind, I don't want to deceive anyone and get these big topics out of the way as early on as I can and I think I am making a mistake somewhere here. Thank you, again, for taking the time and responding to these emails! Looking forward to what you think about the topics of conflict I have been having! Best Willie

What's the best way to respond to him? Willie asks: I have a dating questions. Why do women keep ghosting me? Should they be more willing to work out differences with the Five Secrets of Communication? I was at Internet World launching RealNames to the world. RealNames invented paid clicks on keywords. Our first partner was AltaVista, and Google was our second—calling the feature "I'm Feeling Lucky."It was the simplest technology ever. We had a keyword, bought by a customer. An example might be Disney buying "Bambi." They would buy it in every country and language they wanted and point it to a specific URL in each place. Search engines would look at the keywords you typed in (later browsers too) and if RealNames had it as a paid keyword, they would send the user to the site, with no search results. Just a direct navigation. RealNames got paid for the customer sent.At the launch, we used the example of the keyword “Bambi” to show how superior our keywords were compared to domain names. In those days, Bambi.com pointed to a porn site. Our launch demo showed that typing "Bambi" went to Disney, but typing "Bambi.com" did not. All was well except we altered our network settings the eve of the launch, and when we demoed the use of "Bambi" at the launch, it (you can guess) went to the porn site.Journalists wrote about RealNames as a scam and bad actors.Luckily, we had great partners, and within 12 hours the network issue was fixed, and all was well. But for 24 hours, I felt like the world was collapsing around me. On the one hand, we launched our company, mostly to great acclaim; on the other, we were being destroyed in the tech media.Sam, I know how this week must have felt. Your decision to pull the ‘Sky' voice was right. And despite the horrors of the first 24 hours, this will pass. That said, you mismanaged this entire thing. I'm sure you acted in good faith in wanting to embrace the “Her” meme. It is a good idea. And ‘Sky' was a good effort. It seems clear you had spoken to Scarlett Johansson and failed to reach an agreement. I'm prepared to believe you could not react fast enough to change the voice prior to the demo. But once it went awry, you needed to do more than wait for a legal challenge before pulling it, and you needed to say something before the actress. Not doing so means that many people, probably most, think you did the entire thing on purpose.Clearly, you did not preconceive this. If you did, then the fact that you were happy to pull the voice, and your knowledge that the actress was not prepared to have her voice used, would have stopped you before it got as far as it did. You would be very reckless to have thought you could get away with using a voice like hers without her permission. So, you need to either go on the record and get this behind you or ignore it and hope it goes away. I think now we have ‘ScarJo' as a word, the latter might prove difficult.Best Regards,Keith (A fellow Founder)Beyond ScarJo there are some great essays this week. Pack McCormick writes about why AI will lead to more jobs and bigger companies. In framing his case he says”Technologies are tools. I don't mean that in the normal way that people mean it to say that technology is neither good nor bad.Tools are good.Humans can build better things with tools than they can without them. But tools aren't the point. They're tools.Tools lead to new possibilities and those lead to new endeavors. Read his essay below. And a team made up of @KamalVC, @VaradanMonisha, @Claudiazeisberg have penned an essay called ‘The Pervasive, Head-Scratching, Risk-Exploding Problem With Venture Capital'. The main thesis is about investing in private companies versus public companies. They have a great graphic showing that the range of outcomes in Venture Capital is very wide compared to other asset classes:Venture Capital's top percentiles out-perform other asset classes, but most do not. The safest asset class is global equity (public company stock).Building on this they show that large Venture investors that invest across 500 or more companies can compete with less risky assets by diversification. This depicts a simulation of a manager doing 15 deals, compared to 500 and shows more deals equals less risk.I recommend reading the full piece, linked in the contents above and the headline below. I think they are right, but there is a better way of derisking. The advice they give below is better than traditional venture capital, but that is a low bar:To de-risk venture capital, CIOs simply need to acknowledge that VC math is different from public markets math. The importance of low-probability, excess-return-generating investments means that proper diversification requires a portfolio of at least 500 startups. It will take work to assemble such a portfolio. It is hard to do by investing directly. Current funds and funds-of-funds are rarely designed with diversification in mind. Instead, they concentrate funding in a small subset of ultra-popular entrepreneurs, sectors, and geographies, which risks driving down returns on capital, leaving higher-return strategies underfunded.Investors who allocate and diversify their funds wisely and accept the evidence will not only achieve better and less-volatile returns, but will also ultimately nudge GPs to finally design diversified funds. In my day job - also about de-risking venture - we use AI to reduce risk, removing companies that are highly unlikely to be successful. The remaining companies (about 7% of the full set of venture backed companies) out-perform the market in a narrower band of outcomes:Here is how the SignalRank Index compares to the S&P500 and the NASDAQ. We assume an investor puts $1 into the S&P, the NASDAQ and The SignalRank Index in each year from 2014-2019 and then show the returns from each (average and median in the case of SignalRank). The median outcome from venture investments is that the investor loses money. The average is a lot better. But almost no managers achieve the average. By using AI to reduce risk we get the average outcome in 2014 to be 4.31x the investment (the white numbers), compared to the S&P500 1.39 and the NASDAQ 1.89. SignalRanks Median outcome is 2.24.De-risking venture capital is important and the writers of the essay show that it is possible to de-risk by diversification. But we can do even better by both diversifying and using data intelligence to remove downside outliers.I will leave you with that thought. More next week This is a public episode. Good afternoon panel! A couple of things from the past week. Last weekend, I had a listener meetup with Liz and friends to try my hand at pheasant hunting  Great to meet up with like minded individuals.  Had a great day, but no luck with the hunt. On my way to and from the hunting area, I thought that I would expand my listening library and take in some of the CCFR podcast episodes.  After listening to 4 episodes, I believe that I now have a better understanding of Rod Giltaca.  Or not.  It seems to me that one of the favourite subjects to speak on is "Things I have done".  I am sure that the CCFR as an organization does good work on behalf of Canadian firearms owners, but to paraphrase Adhemar from the movie "A Knight's Tale", the podcast has been weighed, has been measured, and has been found wanting.  Frankly, I expected a little more.  Thoughts on that? Secondly, another appropriate movie reference. My utter contempt and loathing for all things federal government related has been "turned up to 11", after the shenanigans pulled with C21 this past week.  Clearly the idiots in Ottawa do not know the difference between an "amendment" and a "complete rewrite"! (FYI, the movie was "This is Spinal Tap", if you were not aware) Looking forward to this week's discussion! Best Regards, Eric   From: Gerry RE: Amend This Episode Hello, I appreciate the effort and content you put in the podcasts, but the Amend This episode will be my last. Hearing a person refer to firearms as “weapons of mass destruction” and stating “you have the right to hunt even though you don't need to”  in this episode is counter productive and divisive to people who value freedom. The ability to take care of yourself or your family whether it be fishing, hunting or growing food is an essential skill worth learning and may be useful given the situation we face. Marksmanship and accuracy are worthwhile and respectable  pursuits that should join the sport shooting and hunting communities. The aforementioned commentary is neither accurate or respectable. Thank you for the past episodes and I wish you the best in future endeavours. The team's owner told Radio-Canada on Monday that the 35-year-old Price was not aware of the 1989 massacre. “I am not a criminal or a threat to society,” he posted to Instagram, along with a photo of him wearing camouflage hunting gear and cradling a shotgun. “What @justinpjtrudeau is trying to do is unjust. I support the @ccfr_ccdaf (Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights) to keep my hunting tools.” -Separately, a spokesperson for Public Security Minister Marco Mendicino told La Presse that the firearm Price is carrying in his Instagram post would not be banned under Bill C-21. “Our bill does not target firearms currently used for hunting and we fully respect the traditions of hunters and Indigenous Peoples,” Audrey Champoux said in a statement. -political science Professor Kathy Brock said gun control offers a unique dilemma to the NDP, who rely heavily on both inner-city voters and those in rural parts of the country. “This one is very difficult for the NDP to find a united consensus position on,” she told the National Post. “They are putting the NDP in a very difficult position that could cause a bit of a schism and tension in the relationship between the NDP and Liberals, but also within the NDP party.” -Veteran NDP MP Charlie Angus who represents Timmins-James Bay, a vast northern Ontario riding encompassing nearly 252,000 sq. km. and a diverse range of rural cities, villages and First Nations communities, is speaking out. I'm a guy from Norway pushing 50, that relies more on observation and research regarding women, than actual experience. What I have noticed is that women's lack of interest in men, is often explained away, with them wanting high status men, men with resources and sometimes men with the best bodies/DNA for their reproductive urges. But female homosexuality is becoming more and more common. Like Skirt-Club that has venues for bi-curious women in more than 20 cities all over the world: Then there is research showing no difference in how male and female brains react to erotic visual stimuli, and the complete failure of the magazine 'Playgirl' to attract female readers. Leading to the obvious conclusion that women are more aroused by women's bodies than men's. And the constant blaming of men for only 30% of women being able to reach orgasm, when women have no problem reaching it when being with other women. This might also correlate to the revelation made by one of the spicey websites that ends with the second word hub, that most of their female viewers watch spicy content with two women gettin it on. So these facts have led me to the conclusion that when it comes to sexuality, and not need for male validation, relationship or primal reproductive urges, women are more homosexual than heterosexual. Would love to hear your thoghts on these issues. Best Regards, 'Truth-Seeker'" Well Truth-Seeker thanks for the donation and topic. I like to rely on as much data as possible and the first thing I want to share is this poll that I've shared before in another video showing that 16 percent of zoomers are LGBT. In 2 generations if the trend of doubling continues from one generation to the next fifty to sixty percent of males and females will be LGBT. The question is is this just the way women have always been or is there something more to it? My Sandman Spidey sense is telling me that since our soyciety has been over sexualized it's taking a lot more to turn both men and women on. Since the female body is more visually appealing I don't blame women for being turned on by it. Then again women being more interested in women might just be a natural part of our species. Take a look at this Tweet that Mr. Obvious shared about how the disintigration of the family and rise in homosexuality led to the fall of Rome. He thinks we are going through something similar in the west right now. I agree. Chastity is all about harnessing human productive energy to build civilization. Uncontrolled sexual energy leads to the destruction of civilization because when you're into pleasure you have nothing to show for it except a temporary good feeling followed by chasing the next sexual high. But when you aren't sexually satisfied you have to keep working on other things in life and transmute your sexual energy into your family or your work. We talked about our ways of expressing love and affection and Jhan gave a little review of one of the most important and romantic days, leading into a new chapter of his Life. Find out yourself. THE HUDDLE Question from Harold Dsouza -  Hi Brian. Let me start off by saying I am a big fan of your options playbook radio podcasts. I think you are an excellent teacher. I have been meaning to reach out to you for a long time now. I am 41 yrs old and have been very intrigued by the stock market since I was a kid. I have also had an innate fear of losing my hard earned money which has kept me away from venturing into the market all these years. I have finally overcome my fear and have decided to slowly wade towards the deep end. I have been educating myself for about 4 months now, getting comfortable with the market terminology and its workings. I've been reading books on stocks & options trading and listening to podcasts. Absorbing as much as I can. I have had a financial advisor  who has been handling my portfolio for the past 6 yrs and honestly I have seen very little gain in my accounts over these years. After listening to your podcasts I am motivated and I believe with the right guidance and education everything is achievable. I have decided to take control of my finances. I have been listening to your podcasts starting from day 1 and listened to them over and over again until i understand the concept. Some of them i'm struggling with, but i am determined to get there. I like the way you break it down into bite sized digestible chunks. My money has been sitting in my trading account for over 3 weeks now. I am a little anxious to take the first step which is picking the right stock. I am still conservative with my money. Hence I am looking primarily at DJI & S&P500 stocks. My focus at this point is to pick right stock that is on it's way up and sell covered calls on those stocks taking advantage of the current market rally while as the same time getting some residual income. Once I am comfortable I will be looking at handling my finances in its entirety. I need some guidance on how to pick those stocks. I am reaching out with the hope that you could provide some guidance or point me in the right direction to help me get started and achieve my goal. I am currently on podcast # 32, I don't know if you have covered this in your later podcasts. I don't know if my approach is right. I am just going with my understanding of what I have been reading and observing and listening. Much like a well read frog in a well..lol. Look forward to hearing from you. Best Regards, Harold Question from Joe and Linda - I have  been knee deep with you guys for the last 14 months and can't thank you enough for the wealth of information you provide. One of my favorite quotes: “ Your generosity is only exceeded by my gratitude.” I have a long commute to work in the morning and have managed to listen to all 240+ of the Options Playbook, all of the Bootcamp, 90% of the OIC stuff as well as in and out of the Options Advisor and Futures show. Also haven't missed Options Block for the last few months… I have a few questions: - I purchased Dan's Trading Options Greeks book and was wondering if he had an audio version. Could easily listen to it on my morning commute. - I seem comfortable with Bollinger Bands, ADX Charts and Volatility Charts, but I am having trouble nailing down a consistent time frame. Should I set the chart for the time I am interested trading or is the 6 month better, 1 year, 2 year....? - Should support and resistance lines reflect 100 lines for better accuracy? 250? Thank You so much for all your help, looking forward to the future with you guys. Going to be successful enough to be able to travel Thank You guys in person! Thanks Again! Question from Jarryd Smith - I have a question for the podcast. What is meant by 'the tent'? For example, stop the trade when it exits 'the tent'. Let's use an ATM Butterfly. Is it the ending 'tent', when at the end of the trade it would a max-loss? Or the end of the trade that would still be a profit? Or something else? For example, if I had a 100/150/200 ATM Butterfly on for $25, would I exit if it hit 100 or 200? Or 125/175? Or something else? Thanks! Question from Thomas Weber - If I am short a deep in the money call in SPY (delta near 1), what are the odds I will be assigned the Thursday night before Friday expiration?   Do you have a question that you want answered on a future episode? Send them to Brian at theoptionsguy@invest.ally.com, or to the Options Insider at questions@theoptionsinsider.com.
