Collaborative philanthropy is emerging as one of the most promising innovations in modern giving. In this episode of the Do One Better Podcast, host Alberto Lidji is joined by three leading voices in collaborative philanthropy: Alison Powell, Partner at The Bridgespan Group and leader of its Collaborative Philanthropy practice; Kimberly Dasher Tripp, Founder of Strategy for Scale; and Neha Dalal, Principal at Jasper Ridge Partners, where she advises families and foundations on strategic philanthropy and impact. Together, they explore the growing role of collaborative funds as a powerful vehicle for scaling philanthropic impact. Drawing on their jointly authored article, Collaboratives as a Philanthropic Asset Class, the guests examine how expert-led pooled funds are reshaping the philanthropic landscape. They explain why collaborative funds—vehicles that aggregate capital from multiple donors and deploy it through a shared strategy—can help address some of philanthropy's most persistent challenges, including fragmented giving, limited donor capacity, and the difficulty of identifying and supporting the highest-impact opportunities. The conversation explores the analogy between collaborative funds and investment vehicles such as mutual funds, ETFs, and venture capital funds. Just as investors rely on professional fund managers and diversified portfolios, donors can leverage collaborative funds to access deep expertise, rigorous diligence, strategic coordination, and greater reach than they might achieve on their own. Alison, Kimberly, and Neha discuss the remarkable diversity of collaborative funds operating today—from issue-focused initiatives addressing climate change, gender equity, poverty, global health, and education, to community-led funds that place decision-making power in the hands of those closest to the challenges being addressed. They also examine how collaborative funds can help donors learn while giving, build relationships with peers, and participate in communities of practice focused on shared impact goals. The discussion addresses common misconceptions and critiques of collaborative giving, including concerns about intermediary costs, loss of donor control, and potential duplication within the philanthropic ecosystem. The guests explain why these considerations are best understood as trade-offs rather than shortcomings, and how collaborative models can often increase both efficiency and effectiveness while mobilizing significantly more capital toward urgent social and environmental challenges. The episode also explores the infrastructure needed to support the continued growth of collaborative philanthropy, including improved discovery tools, clearer evaluation frameworks, and stronger field-building efforts that help donors identify and engage with collaborative opportunities aligned with their values and objectives. Whether you are an experienced philanthropist, an emerging donor, a family office advisor, or simply interested in how resources can be deployed more effectively for social impact, this conversation offers a compelling perspective on why collaborative funds may become an increasingly important part of the future of philanthropy. Key Topics Covered What collaborative philanthropy funds are and how they operate Why collaborative funds can be viewed as a philanthropic asset class The parallels between collaborative giving and investment fund models How collaborative funds increase efficiency, expertise, and scale The role of community leadership, proximity, and power-sharing in philanthropy Different collaborative fund structures, governance models, and strategies How donors can determine whether collaborative giving is right for them The importance of donor self-awareness and philanthropic strategy Common barriers to collaborative giving and how they can be overcome The infrastructure needed to strengthen the collaborative philanthropy ecosystem Why many practitioners see collaborative funds as a key part of philanthropy's future Memorable Insights Collaborative funds allow donors to leverage expert knowledge, shared diligence, and collective action. Giving through a collaborative fund does not replace direct philanthropy; it complements it. Many of philanthropy's biggest challenges are too large and interconnected for any single donor to address alone. Collaborative funds can help move capital more quickly, strategically, and at greater scale. The future of philanthropy may depend on helping donors move from acting alone to acting together. Part 2 picks up exactly where I left Bisu — on why a 7-year-old audio platform is releasing a theatrical film on May 8. From there, we go everywhere. Bisu's actual journey from a small village in Shekhawati to Bandra. The "full equation" view of metrics. Why saying no requires more work than saying yes. Why most of his learning comes from iterations, not books. And, in his closing answer, a quietly devastating line about the startup ecosystem itself. If you haven't heard Part 1 yet, please go back and start there first.Chapter list01:02 — Indian Institute of Zombies: why theatrical, why in-house, why AI in the pipeline. The decision-making cadence behind it01:08 — "Your vision grows with you." How the original vision changed from "premium storytelling for Bharat" to something larger01:10 — Bathoth → Shekhawati → IIT Jodhpur → Bandra. Studying in Hindi until Class 10, then +2 in Hindi, then English at IIT01:18 — The discipline of saying no. Why nos require more work than yeses, and why nos are usually the better answer01:19 — "The full equation." Why CAC alone is meaningless; why he tracks revenue, CAC, LTV and cohort profit together. The two real metrics: equation health and engagement01:21 — Numbers beyond a limit give you an illusion. "Don't go deeper in the data — keep your life simple."01:21 — Co-founders, span of control, how the four-way role split actually got sorted01:22 — How Bisu learns: most of it from doing and iterations; books help him articulate what the iterations have already taught him01:25 — Pet phrases at work — "build it like a business, not a startup" — and what management style his colleagues would say he has01:28 — Biggest value add as Bisu, not as CEO. The Uber-power-user analogy01:29 — When did he change his mind about managing people? Going from technical-first to people-first01:34 — Hiring: the open-ended questions Bisu actually asks when he meets potential leaders01:36 — What motivates and drives him on a daily basis01:42 — Family, parenting, and the village memory of his grandmother telling stories by oil lamp in the evenings — the original storyteller in his life01:45 — The personal questions: which morning of the week, how he spends weekends, what a productive day looks like, sleep01:46 — On a scale of 1 to 10, how Bisu rates himself as a CEO01:51 — The closing thought. Would the average Kuku FM subscriber actually want to listen to a two-hour interview with the CEO of Kuku FM? "We live in a bubble. The startup ecosystem feels that the world thinks what we think. It doesn't."01:53 — GoodbyeThings mentioned in Part 2People: Vinod Kumar Meena, Vikas Goyal (co-founders); Kunj Sanghvi (Kuku's Content Head, previously on Two by Two and Zero Shot); the Dalal brothers (script of Indian Institute of Zombies — Hussain and Abbas Dalal of Brahmāstra / Farzi); Gaganjeet Singh and Alok Dwivedi (directors); Bisu's grandmotherPlaces: Bathoth (village in Shekhawati, Rajasthan); IIT Jodhpur; BandraConcepts: the full equation — Bisu's name for treating CAC, revenue, LTV and cohort profit as one calculation, not separate metrics; content is the only product; vision grows with you To listen to all of First PrinciplesIf you'd like to listen to all 54 First Principles episodes — that's close to 110 hours of conversations with founders and leaders building India's most interesting companies — please subscribe to The Ken directly, or to our premium channel on Apple Podcasts.

We love talking about growth mindset, but curiosity without action doesn't move your career forward. In this episode, Jayneil Dalal shares what he's learned from interviewing hundreds of designers—and why the people who actually ship, share, and care about craft are the ones who keep growing. What if the fastest way to grow your career isn't asking for a promotion—but becoming the designer everyone trusts? In this episode, I sit down with Jayneil Dalal to talk less about career ladders and more about what actually earns trust inside organizations. After interviewing hundreds of designers on Design MBA and Sneak Peek, Jayneil has seen the same patterns repeat across teams, companies, and seniority levels. The designers who advance aren't the loudest or the most credentialed. They're the ones who care deeply about their work—clean files, thoughtful handoffs, clear communication, and sharing what they learn with others. No one tells them to do this. They do it because they give a damn, and that care compounds into credibility. We also unpack the idea of “internal brand,” why chasing credit often backfires, and how being generous with your knowledge can quietly change team culture. What does it mean to be a parent in the age of AI?On this episode of Voices for Excellence, Dr. Michael Conner is joined by Kunal Dalal, a visionary educator, founder of AI Parentology, and one of today's most important thinkers shaping the intersection of artificial intelligence and learning. With roots in both classroom teaching and education innovation, Kunal is not just exploring how AI can transform education—he's modeling it in deeply human and personal ways. From building micro-schools inspired by his own child's learning to facilitating rich, AI-infused family experiences that teach solidarity, creativity, and agency, Kunal is rewriting the narrative of what education—at home and in schools—can be. Dr. Conner and Kunal unpack how AI can serve not as a replacement for human connection, but as a mirror and catalyst for more meaningful, culturally responsive, and student-centered learning. This expansive, joyful conversation looks beyond compliance-driven systems to explore how schools can reimagine themselves as laboratories of self-efficacy, equity, and innovation—while also holding space for the very real fears and complexities this moment brings. What you'll learn in this episode:Bold leadership isn't top-down—it's about followership and listening to the true architects of the future: students. Why embracing AI means leaning into uncertainty, creativity, and co-agency—not replicating factory models of the past. How micro-schools can ignite community-based innovation that's student-designed, culturally grounded, and deeply personal. How algorithmic reflections force us to confront the systemic gaps, silences, and prejudices embedded in our society—and how we must respond. The power of AI to co-create with children—using dreams, art, questions, and storytelling to spark curiosity, identity, and connection. What developers and education leaders must consider now to ensure AI tools are trained on diverse, humanizing data that truly reflects Generation Alpha & Beta.Kunal's concept of the “AI Parentologist” isn't just a title—it's an evolving framework for how families, educators, and developers can intentionally design a more just, joyful future. And it's a future Dr. Conner continues to lead toward through bold inquiry, system-level transformation, and equity-centered design.Subscribe and share to continue driving the future of education for all.

Pranav Dalal is the visionary Founder and CEO of Office Beacon, a global outsourcing powerhouse with over 5,500 employees. Launching the business in 2000 after the dot-com crash, Pranav has expanded operations from India to the Philippines, Mexico, and South Africa, providing over 150 different services to clients worldwide. As a single father, he is actively building a multi-generational family business, with his children joining the ranks to learn the industry from the ground up. Pranav is also a forward-thinker who leverages unique partnerships with the NFL and SoFi Stadium to drive business growth.SHOW SUMMARYIn this episode, host Jonathan Goldhill sits down with Pranav Dalal to discuss his 25-year journey of building a truly global enterprise. Pranav shares the origin story of shifting from the tech sector to B2B services and how he strategically scaled Office Beacon across multiple continents. We explore how he balances running a massive remote organization using systems like EOS and the "generational compact" he has established with his children. Pranav also offers fascinating insights into his unique sports marketing partnerships, his aggressive adoption of AI to disrupt his own business model, and the ancestral values that guide his leadership.KEY TAKEAWAYSThe Generational Compact: Pranav built Office Beacon with the specific intent of creating a multi-generational legacy. His children joined the business not through nepotism, but by starting at entry-level positions to learn humility and hard work.Scaling with EOS: Managing 5,500 employees remotely requires discipline. Pranav utilizes the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) five levels deep to ensure core values and goals are cascaded effectively across global teams.Innovative Partnerships: Moving beyond traditional marketing, Office Beacon holds exclusive partnerships with SoFi Stadium and the NFL Alumni Association, using stadium suites for daily business networking rather than just game-day entertainment.Disrupt or Be Disrupted: Pranav views himself as the "Chief Disruption Officer." He is heavily investing in AI education and implementation for 2026, believing that if he doesn't disrupt his own business model, a competitor will.Trust But Verify: A core leadership lesson Pranav instills in his children and team is the concept of "trust but verify"—maintaining faith in people while ensuring details and execution are validated to prevent costly mistakes.Ancestral DNA: Pranav reconnected with his heritage, discovering that his surname "Dalal" means "broker" in Persian/Hindi, which reinforced his belief that business and entrepreneurship are embedded in his family's DNA.QUOTES"My whole goal was to create a multi-generational family business.""If we're not disrupting ourselves, someone's going to disrupt you.""I realized that it was a very doable thing... that there are these family legacies out there in business that go back hundreds of years.""They fail, feel a sense of ownership even though I'm the owner... their mindset of being accountable is incredible.""I'm in the people business, and I should be the first one to say, 'Wow, I'm scared of AI,' but I'm embracing it a thousand percent."Connect and learn more about Pranav Dalal and Office Beacon: Pranav Dalal's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/pranavdalal/Office Beacon Website: https://www.officebeacon.com/  Email for inquiries: sales@officebeacon.comIf you enjoyed today's episode, please subscribe, review, and share with a friend who would benefit from the message. In this episode, my travel partner Cynthia and I explore Al Ula in northwestern Saudi Arabia – where ancient culture meets cutting-edge architecture. We stroll through Old Town's 1,300 mudbrick houses, chat with a modern young Saudi woman named Dalal, and marvel at Maraya, the world's largest mirrored building shimmering in the desert. We also test our luck (and our rental car) in the sand again – with a dramatic sunset rescue by friendly locals. As Saudi Arabia opens up to visitors, this mix of hospitality, history, and high-tech design feels like a glimpse into the country's future. Today we talk nerdy policy stuff, his dog Remy and what he thinks Longmont needs to keep the future bright. Make a cup of tea and enjoy this episode. We did. And since we couldn't get to it all, here are just some of the things Shakeel has done in Longmont in his free time, too much to get to in just one episode. He was a political writer for the Longmont Observer. He helped get Longmont Public Media off the ground. He currently serves on the board of the Longmont Community Foundation, and the Professional Standards Unit reviewing police misconduct allegations. As the co-founder and former president of LAUNCH Longmont Housing, he has focused on policy reform like making it easier to build an ADU, eliminating parking minimums, and--as we get into--amending the Longmont charter. All without even being elected yet. He's a friend, and he's got our vote.

The conversation covers stablecoin fundamentals, including how they work and who maintains their stability, before exploring how crypto wallets with multi-signature capabilities could protect AI agents from adversarial attacks while keeping humans in control. They examine forward-looking questions about whether this technology could finally create a viable alternative to advertising models, what happens when millions of AI agents have wallets, and the need for reputation systems in an agent economy. The discussion highlights how cryptocurrency, originally designed to be beyond nation-state control, might become the perfect enabling technology for AI economic participation.
