We're not sure how it's possible that we're at the halfway point of the year, but here we are, and we're happy you're here with us at Breakfast All Day. Kind of a random mix of movies opening this weekend. First, we review "A Quiet Place: Day One," a prequel that takes place in New York City on the day of the alien invasion. We do not agree on this one! Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn star. It's in theaters. Then, we luxuriate in the escapist fluff that is "A Family Affair," a Nancy Meyers-adjacent rom-com set in Hollywood and Malibu. Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Joey King star. It's streaming on Netflix. We begin as always on Fridays with Movie News LIVE! Among the topics we discussed were the trailer for Robert Zemeckis' "Here," Paramount getting rid of a bunch of its online content, and new Academy members. We won't have a livestream next Friday because of the Fourth of July holiday, but mark your calendars for a live "Kinds of Kindness" spoiler chat, which we'll do on Tuesday, July 2 at Noon PDT. Details and link coming to our YouTube channel soon. And for our Patreon subscribers, we recap the first two astonishing episodes of "The Bear" season three, and we continue slogging through "The Acolyte." Thanks as always for being here! In news, we talk about "Wonder Woman 3," the Primetime Emmys moving to January, Robbie Robertson of The Band and more. We also have a review of the Max documentary "Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed," about the 1950s and '60s screen icon, his life as a closeted gay man and his death from AIDS. We'll be in and out the next few weeks, but be on the lookout for out-of-the-theater reactions to "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" on our YouTube channel. Plus we'll be doing a LIVE spoiler discussion of both films on July 26 at Noon PDT, so be sure to join us then. Hope you're having a great summer!

We're all about #family here at Breakfast All Day, so we wouldn't dream of spoiling the many, MANY revelations in "Fast X." But we're doing a spoiler chat on our YouTube channel on Wednesday, May 24 at Noon PDT, where we'll go in-depth on the beginning of the end of The Fast Saga. Also this week, we review Paul Schrader's "Master Gardener" and the Italian drama "L'immensità" starring Penélope Cruz. In news, we discuss all things Cannes Film Festival: "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," Johnny Depp, Pedro Almodovar and more. And over at our Patreon, we recap this week's "Ted Lasso" and episodes 3 and 4 of the third season of "The Great." Thanks as always for joining us!
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is the big movie of the week, but some smaller movies dared to share space in the multiplex this weekend. So we reviewed "Love Again," a romantic comedy/drama that hinges on a fatal car accident, some accidental texts and the music of Celine Dion. It's weird, but not nearly as weird as it could have been! In news, we discuss the Writers Guild strike, Carrie Fisher, Jamie Foxx, the "Beau Is Afraid" pajamas and more. And over at our Patreon, we recap this week's episode of "Ted Lasso," which we're unusually split on. Thanks as always for joining us -- and make sure you stop by our LIVE "Guardians" spoiler chat on our YouTube channel on Wednesday, May 10 at Noon PDT. We'd love to see you and hear your thoughts!
It's Gnarly Tuesday here at Breakfast All Day. We're catching up with a couple of super gory (but very well-made!) action/horror movies in theaters now. And if you can see them in a theater, you really should, because they're both such fun crowd experiences. With Alonso finishing his latest book, we've got a couple of great friends to share their insights. Horror expert William Bibbiani joins in for "Evil Dead Rise," the fifth film in the franchise, and Dave White helps out with "Sisu," a Finnish action flick that's like "John Wick," but with Nazis. (Yes, it's as fun as that sounds.) Make sure to join us Wednesday, May 3 at Noon PDT for a "Beau Is Afraid" LIVE spoiler chat. Our good friend Tim Grierson, who liked the film more than we did, will be taking part, as well. It'll be here on our Breakfast All day YouTube channel. Bring your questions and the images that have been haunting you!
We've got a super early review of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" on Breakfast All Day. And it's spoiler-free, because the movie doesn't even come out until May 5. But we wanted to chat about the latest in the MCU -- writer-director James Gunn's final film for Marvel before he heads to DC Studios -- as soon as we could. Stay tuned for details on a live spoiler chat coming soon. Also, Katie Walsh helps out with a review of "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.," based on the beloved Judy Blume coming-of-age novel. We both loved it and can't recommend it highly enough. In news, we discuss all the announcements out of CinemaCon, plus the death of Jerry Springer. And over on our Patreon, we recap this week's lovely episode of "Ted Lasso." Thanks for joining us. And be sure to mark your calendar for our LIVE "Beau Is Afraid" spoiler chat on our YouTube channel, scheduled for Noon PDT on Wednesday May 3. Look forward to seeing you there!
Just a couple of quick goodies for you on this midweek Breakfast All Day episode. Alonso and Christy review "Suzume," the latest animated film from the great Japanese writer-director Makoto Shinkai ("Your Name.," "Weathering With You"). In news, we discuss the Writers Guild of America voting nearly unanimously to strike, the debacle of the live "Love Is Blind" reunion on Netflix, Jonathan Majors, the "World of Barbie" experience, Vidiots and more. Over at our Patreon, we revisit David Lynch's 1986 noir thriller "Blue Velvet" for our April Off the Menu. And be sure to join us Wednesday, April 19 at Noon PDT on our YouTube channel for a LIVE Ask Us Anything segment. Hope to see you!
Sink your teeth into the latest episode of Breakfast All Day. Alonso and Christy review "Renfield," the wildly violent action comedy featuring Nicolas Cage in the role he was born to play: Count Dracula. Alonso's husband, Dave White, steps in to help with a review of the powerful indie drama "A Thousand and One," which we both loved. In news, we discuss the Cannes Film Festival lineup, HBO Max dropping the HBO, Drake Bell, Ryan Reynolds' birthday song for Rob McElhenney, and more. And over at our Patreon, we recap this week's episodes of "The Mandalorian" and "Ted Lasso." Thanks for listening! Be sure to join us next week for a LIVE edition of Ask Us Anything! We'll be at our YouTube channel at Noon PDT on Wednesday, April 19 and we'd love to see you: https://www.youtube.com/live/sZLnsmwkRBg?feature=share

Author of Wake Up Grateful and the Executive Director of A Network for Grateful Living, Kristi Nelson joins Terry to explore the elusively obvious gift of this very breath and moment and the transformational practice of living with grateful generosity at this moment in our human journey. Kristi illuminates the differences between gratitude and gratefulness, and how the uncaused and unconditional nature of gratefulness enables us to stay open-hearted, in all of the ordeal and the ordinariness of this life. Kristi Nelson has spent most of her adult life in non-profit leadership, fundraising, and organizational development — leading, funding, and strengthening organizations committed to progressive social and spiritual change. In 2001, she founded a values-based consulting and leadership coaching business and worked with organizations such as the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, Buddhist Peace Fellowship, Spirit in Action, Wisdom 2.0, and The Center for Contemplative Mind in Society. She was also Founding Director of the Soul of Money Institute with Lynne Twist, Director of Development at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and Director of Development and Community Relations for the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. Kristi is a stage IV cancer survivor who feels blessed to be sharing the gifts of gratefulness with people around the world in a vibrant, loving community. Now, she is the author of a wonderful new book, Wake Up Grateful: The Transformative Practice of Taking Nothing for Granted. Also: We want to officially invite you to become a Friend of State of Emergence — a new way to engage with the podcast conversation and access new live discussions and Q&A with me every month. Our first session will be at 12 Noon PDT on December 29th 2020. Additionally, you’re invited to be part of our vibrant, growing, international community at A New Republic of the Heart in other new ways — check out the options here on our website. Leadership development expert Barrett Brown joins Terry to explore the most advanced levels of leadership, especially as they apply in the US as a new Biden administration begins to navigate simultaneous, interpenetrating fast-moving crises. Barrett shares which leadership capacities are most essential for “leading in the unknown” amidst hypercomplex adaptive systems, heightened polarization, and a damaged information ecosystem. Many insights emerge, principally starting where we are: integrating the many capacities that are already present, in ourselves and one another, and trusting the creative potential of teams that are cooperating with intuitive heart intelligence. Dr. Barrett Brown is a global expert on how to develop leaders to successfully navigate hypercomplex challenges and transformation. He is also a longtime personal friend and colleague. Barrett is the Managing Director of Apheno Advisory, and works across six continents with C-suite executives and teams from Fortune 500 companies and international non-profits, regularly advising a trillion-dollar tech company and the largest environmental NGO in the world. He holds a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems and his award-winning research on the future of leadership is used in executive education programs worldwide. He’s also on the selection committee of the Katerva Awards - considered the Nobel Prize for sustainability - and has held consultancy status to the United Nations. Here are some additional questions Barrett and Terry explore: How might leadership experts anticipate Biden failing or succeeding, based on what we know about advanced “late-stage” leadership? How do late-stage leaders “lead from behind” by empowering teams and harvesting the collective intuition and intelligence of the whole? To what extent do we already have all the capacities we need — in one another and in the system? If so, how do we cultivate conditions for trust, collaboration and co-creativity? How can you and I relate best to the complex challenges and opportunities we’ll likely face in the next four years? For more information on Barrett Brown and Terry Patten, check out the following links: Barrett’s website, apheno.com The Future of Leadership for Conscious Capitalism Sane Leadership in a Crazy World: Essentials of Complexity Leadership Full Spectrum Leadership: How to Communicate to Different Developmental Stages Overview of the Strategist, Alchemist and Ironist Action Logics (Later Stages of Ego Development) A New Republic of the Heart Terry Patten's website Also: We’re officially inviting you into the State of Emergence conversation in the form of new live discussions and Q&A with me and others every month, during which we’ll dive deeper into that month’s episodes. Our first session will be at 12 Noon PDT on December 29th 2020. To participate, simply become a “Friend of State of Emergence” on our website by contributing $10/month or more. If you’re already contributing at that level, you’ll automatically be invited to join. If you cannot afford that contribution and you want to participate, just contact us. Everyone is welcome.
Fertilizer remains a mystery for many. Proper fertilizer management includes the right rate from the appropriate type of fertilizer at just the correct time. It seems like this would be easy, but there are so many variables; it’s easy to do what you’ve always done or do what your neighbor does. This can be a big mistake costing money, time and potentially damaging the environment. What you want is to achieve a high fertilizer use efficiency. In other words, achieve the highest yields using the least amount of fertilizer. This is desirable and achievable, and our session will help you get there. In this session, Aric Olson is going to change the way you view fertilizer going forward. His experience in AgTech, and agriculture, combined with his education in chemistry, makes him perfect for explaining proper nitrogen use. In this session, you will learn: The best sources of fertilizer How to calculate fertilizer amounts when using drip irrigation If the advantages and disadvantages of organic and synthetic fertilizers Please join Aric Olson this Wednesday, October 28, at Noon PDT to learn the best practices to improve plant health and conserve water. Special Guest: Aric Olson.
Please join us on Friday, October 16, at Noon PDT for a conversation with Wendy Miller, President of the American Society of Landscape Architects. In reckoning with the impact from a global pandemic and environmental disasters of 2020, landscape architecture is in a unique position in its ability to respond and help lead us forward with designs for resilience to these events in the future. What are these themes and ideas landscape architects are considering right now? Also, they’ll be discussion on collaboration between landscape architects and landscape contractors, so essential to achieving these new desired design outcomes, including water conservation and the growth of good green spaces broadly for all communities. How can architects and contractors each benefit from more closely partnering? Founded in 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is the professional association for landscape architects in the United States, representing more than 15,000 members. The Society’s mission is to advance landscape architecture through advocacy, communication, education, and fellowship. Sustainability has been part of ASLA’s mission since its founding and is an overarching value that informs all of the Society’s programs and operations. ASLA is a leader in demonstrating the benefits of green infrastructure and sustainable and climate-resilient landscape planning and design. ASLA led the development of the ASLA Center for Landscape Architecture, its LEED Platinum headquarters and green roof in Washington, D.C., and co-developed the Sustainable SITES Initiative (SITES) rating system. ASLA also develops and promotes publicly-accessible resources and news designed to educate members and the public about climate change, sustainability, and resilience. Special Guest: Wendy Miller.

Rebroadcast of the 9 Month Anniversary of the passing of the God-Father of Contemporary Christian Gospel Music, my friend, Andrae Crouch. Join Dave, The Caregiver's Caregiver, (and former FB Admin. to Andrae' Couch) this Wed, 10/28/15, Noon PDT, (and anytime afterwards, 24/7, on recorded podcast at the same link) as he speaks with Andrae's closest friends and family to share funny "Andrae' stories" and the good times we all had with him celebrating his zest for life.. Those who knew him well are missing his beautiful spirit, and his huge fan base will definitely be missing his timeless new anointed songs and arrangements! Andrae' Crouch, The God Father of Contemporary Gospel Music, died at age 72, 9 months ago, & is survived by his twin sister, Sandra. Andrae' was an innovator, a path-finder, a precursor in an industry noted for its conservative, often derivative approach to popular music. He combined gospel and rock, flavored it with jazz and calypso as the mood struck him and the song called for it, and is even one of the founders of what is now called “praise and worship” music. He took risks with his art and was very, very funky when he wanted to be. When Michael Jackson or Madonna or Quincy Jones needed a gospel song or a gospel chorus, they called Andrae. That’s his music on the soundtrack to The Color Purple (where he earned an Oscar nomination), the Broadway musical The Lion King, and the pop songs “Man in the Middle” and “Like a Prayer.” His first gospel group included Billy Preston, & even Elvis recorded one of his songs.
