Send Victoria a text message! In a world increasingly defined by division and isolation, radical belonging offers a powerful antidote to the epidemic of loneliness. Joe Primo's article, "Radical Belonging in an Age of Othering," featured on Grateful Living, delves into this pressing issue with profound insights that resonate deeply amidst our post-pandemic reality. In this week's episode, I read his article out loud because, although I tried, I couldn't have written it better myself. This article (and episode) hits on individual responsibility, which couldn't be more important as we face an election year in the United States, which goes right into the holidays when we will gather with friends and families, many with opposing views, beliefs, and diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and preferences. The Loneliness EpidemicSurgeon General Vivek Murthy has sounded alarms about a growing crisis—loneliness. This isn't just about feeling alone; it's a public health concern with wide-ranging societal implications. As social structures were disrupted during COVID-19, many isolated themselves from their communities and support systems. Now more than ever, rebuilding connections is vital to societal well-being.Understanding 'Othering'Primo introduces us to the concept of 'othering,' where differences are highlighted not as strengths but as reasons for exclusion. This binary thinking creates barriers between people based on race, religion, culture, or politics—a misguided attempt to find belonging through conformity rather than embracing diversity. The danger here lies in mistaking fitting in for true belonging. The Power of BelongingBelonging is akin to love—it's unconditional and rooted in internal and external acceptance. To belong means being comfortable with oneself while honoring others' dignity despite differences. It's recognizing that everyone holds inherent value simply by existing.RESOURCES:Full Article | Radical Belonging in an Age of Othering by Joe Primo_______NEED HELP?National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255Crisis Text Line provides free, 24/7 support via text message. “Not dying changed everything. Not only did I not die, I actually got to live. And living offered me the chance to bring the most meaningful lessons I learned from facing death into my life and into the lives of many others.” - Kristi Nelson When Kristi Nelson was diagnosed with stage IV Cancer at age 33, she realized how easy it is to thirst for happiness when you are already standing knee deep in abundance. This is when she began to nurture a gratitude practice that transformed her life and to “being awake to what matters." Stripped away from everything, she realized the abundance of life's simplest pleasures and began the practice of waking up grateful and staying mindful in her experience which opened her to the teachings and opportunities within each and every moment for learning, insight, love, and action even in the midst of her struggles. This is when she had the revelation that gratitude is momentary and gratefulness is a way of being. That while gratitude needs something good to happen, greatfulness opens us to the opportunity to experience gratitude in every moment. Our conversation dives into the five points of perspective and the power of gratefulness in activism and the importance of being deeply in touch with what makes us come alive. Listeners are invited to visit Grateful Living for more information and can purchase Kristi's book, "Wake Up, Grateful," to delve deeper into the practice of living gratefully. Key points from the conversation: Kristi's personal journey with cancer and how it led her to find gratitude in the simplest of life's pleasures. The idea of extending gratitude beyond fleeting emotions and events towards adopting a grateful way of being. The generative nature of appreciation. The distinction between gratitude and gratefulness. Gratitude being a reaction to specific positivity, while gratefulness being a continuous state of being. Five points of perspective that enhance gratitude: Poignancy, Peak Awareness, Recognizing Privilege and Plenty, Connecting to Principles, and Finding Pleasure. The role of gratefulness in our actions and activism. It's considered as an activator, which motivates us to protect and care for what we appreciate. Living gratefully is about being fully present, embracing joy and vulnerability, and making a lasting impression on others. If this conversation resonates with you, make sure to check out Kristi's book, "Wake Up, Grateful," and visit the Grateful Living organization for more inspiration. The links are in the show notes. Hey guys, hope all has been well. After a couple more months of reflection and feedback from all of you, I have decided I will continue the Grateful Living channel and podcast through vlogs on different life topics. When I did my last video explaining the pause of the channel and the podcast, one of things that I said was, I am open to feedback and hearing anybody's thoughts on the pause. I appreciated all the support I received while I was content creating and I wanted to make sure I heard the people that supported me through the journey. The #1 feedback I got was: We get reaching out to people to be a podcast guests, prepping for the guest interviews, posting the content from the interviews is a lot, but you should continue the life topic vlogs, as often as is healthy for you, even if it's just once a month. Thank you to all the people that encouraged me to do this. In my own reflections, I never thought of this as a possibility. When I posted my last video in January, I really thought, my content creation days were over. When you're used to doing something a certain level, like posting 7 days a week, going to a lesser schedule feels like you're cheating and not giving 100%. But as the months have gone by and I've reflected, I realized effort levels change - what giving 100% means can evolve and change as we progress through life. Previously, I could do 7 days a week, today, I can't. As it stands right, I hope to post at least once a month on a different life topic. Today, I address, not letting imposter syndrome stop you from being your best self. I think a lot of times people talk about the fear of failure, of making mistakes and losing it all. But it's interesting too, I think a lot of people suffer from fear of success, the fear of a greater positive image of themselves. I think about some of my friends who have been through some traumas in their life and could be characterized, as say “crazy” or “a lot to handle”. They'll interact with me, and be like, “Oh, I'll never be calm and happy, and put together, I'll always be crazy and have an edge to me.” And I'm like, “no actually you can become a calmer and happier version of yourself”. You're self-doubt and the fear of success/imposter syndrome stop you from being that better version. Make no mistake. Change doesn't happen overnight. It takes times, it takes work. For them, it might take therapy, it might take coaching. It might take reading an emotional intelligence book. It might take addressing things you haven't wanted to from the past. Whatever you're trying to better in your life, you can do it. Don't doubt yourself. It may take time and work, but you can better yourself in that area. Hope this is of value. Please feel free to provide any feedback or comments! As many of you have probably noticed, I have stopped posting for a couple months now. I've been in a time of reflection over the last several months and I made this video to explain what's been going on in my life and why I haven't been posting. I don't know what the future of Grateful Living channel holds, but I just want to thank everyone who has supported it. Over 2.5+ years, the Grateful Living channels (YouTube, Spotify and Apple) have amassed over 70,000 plays. Most importantly, beyond the numbers, the videos were made in honor of the 3 people I knew who died by suicide and to emphasize mental health as something we should all take care of. Hopefully, some of the videos made a difference in some people's lives and the way they look at wellness. Traumatic events happen to the best of us. Some are more ordinary than others, like car accidents or losing a job, and others are bigger. Whether big T or little t, traumas are crisis' that happen to all of us, it's not some rare thing. Resilience is about using the crisis or the suffering to grow and launch yourself into a whole new beginning. Beyond just recovering from setbacks, resilience helps us navigate all life challenges, and end up the better for them. Resilience is a mindset that enables us to seek out new experiences and view life as a work in progress. Here's a simple framework to think about the work that goes into building resilience: Pain + reflection = progress. Pain is going to happen. But pain itself doesn't equal progress. And that's really what we mean when we talk about bouncing forward. It helps us move from mere surviving to thriving. Today we get to our how. How do you develop resilience and use these essential skills? Time Stamps:3:15: The challenges we face in life are not meant to be some sort of punishment. Lynne's early professional life led her to a chance encounter of meeting Buckminster Fuller, which changed the trajectory of her life. In this fantastic episode, Lynne shares her understanding of this time of the Divine Feminine and how living a life of commitment has shaped her life, her vision for women, and the future of humanity. Lynne is naming the energy coming through at this time: The Sophia Century and what this means for humanity at this time of evolutionary change. We are the ancestors of an age to come, and all of us that are here at this time have an extraordinary opportunity to make an impact- more than ever before in human history. How women can meet the dominance of the patriarchy, and how we can ignite a new age of feminine leadership. Why Men long to activate more of the feminine leadership model in their lives. How Jack Canfield, friend, and author of Chicken Soup for The Soul, encouraged Lynne to write her new book almost 20 years after the incredible success of The Soul of Money - which is still to this day is considered one of the most visionary and best-selling books. Living a committed life has inspired and informed Lynne's understanding of what makes ordinary people extraordinary. For people living at this time in history, humanity is being called forth to be the stewards and midwives of the world to come as our systems and structures fall apart - education, governance, health, education, and climate are all in crisis, and the "mess of the world" can be overwhelming. Lynne's antidote is to live what she is calling "a committed life" in service to a purpose larger than yourself. Lynn's book is designed to meet the moment of our time and engage people in stepping more fully into our own lives and to reveal our unique gift that is only ours to give. Why the universe loves commitment, and why the universe loves when we endeavor to do something larger than we feel capable of. What happens to us at a cellular level when we hear someone speak about their commitments? How meeting Buckminster Fuller and hearing his story changed the trajectory of Lynne's life and awakened her at the deepest level. How one ordinary individual can change the world. How most people think of commitment is backward. Rather than being a burden, commitment liberates us and gives us freedom and fulfillment in ways we never thought possible. Hear Lynne Talk about some of her darkest times - times she wanted to give up. Why it's so important that we stay in proximity to suffering, and don't turn away from those who are suffering. Lynne Twist is unstoppable in achieving her commitments, but she does so with humility, open-hearted grace, and ruthless enthusiasm. She is boundlessly generous—with her time, inspiration, and even her own home. She does not distinguish between those deserving of her love and attention and those who are not: all are welcome and appreciated for who they are in her land, and She reigns with love, laughter, and dance, and she loves to celebrate the good in the world. Lynne Twist is a global visionary and activist committed to creating an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just future. She is the co-founder of the Pachamama Alliance, the founder of the Soul of Money Institute, and the author of the bestselling book The Soul of Money, Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life, and her forthcoming book Living a Committed Life - Finding Freedom and Fulfillment in a Purpose Larger Than Yourself. From working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta to the refugee camps in Ethiopia and the threatened rainforests of the Amazon, as well as guiding the philanthropy of some of the world's wealthiest families, her on-the-ground work has brought her a deep understanding of people's relationship with money and Her breadth of knowledge and experience has led her to profound insights about the social tapestry of the world and the historical landscape of the times we are living in - even coining the phrase for this century as "The Sophia Century" - the century of wisdom. Her compelling stories, life experiences, commitment, and dedication to making a difference astound and inspire me, and her presence and impact on my life have been immeasurable. In full transparency, I've had the honor of being on her digital marketing team for the past few years and have grown immensely in close proximity to her teachings, leadership, and stand for those she serves. In addition to her best-selling, award-winning book "The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life" (W.W. Norton, 2003), which has been translated into nine languages including Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Bulgarian and Portuguese. Lynne has contributed chapters to more than ten books, including: Women of Courage: Inspiring Stories from the Women Who Live Them, by Katherine Martin (New World Library, 1999) Nonprofit Management 101: A Complete and Practical Guide for Leaders and Professionals" by Darian Rodriguez Heyman (Jossey-Bass, 2011) Einstein's Business: Engaging Soul, Imagination, and Excellence in the Workplace" by Dawson Church, Ph.D. (Elite Books, 2007) Birth 2012 and Beyond: Humanity's Great Shift to the Age of Conscious Evolution by Barbara Marx Hubbard (Shift Books, 2012) Lynne has been an advisor to several organizations, including the Desmond Tutu Foundation, Network of Grateful Living, and The Nobel Women's Initiative — an initiative of seven living Nobel Women Peace Laureates who work together to end violence against women and girls. A sought-after speaker, Lynne travels the world giving keynote presentations and workshops for conferences, including the United Nations Beijing Women's Conference, Nobel Women's Conference on Sexual Violence, State of the World Forum Conference, Alliance for a New Humanity Conference with Deepak Chopra, Synthesis Dialogues with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Governor's Conference on California Women, among others. In addition, she has co-presented and shared the stage with some of today's most influential thought leaders, including: Oprah Winfrey His Holiness the Dalai Lama Riane Eisler Deepak Chopra Jane Goodall Leymah Gbowee Jack Canfield Paul Hawken Van Jones

Love, joy, and peace - the first 3 fruits of the Spirit. Listen this week as we look at how an intentional practice of gratitude creates space for these ways of living to grow within us. And be sure to join us for our 30 day practice of gratitude!
Today we welcome Kristi Nelson, the executive director of A Network for Grateful Living. Her life's work in the non-profit sector has focused on leading, inspiring, and strengthening organizations committed to progressive social and spiritual change. Being a long-time stage IV cancer survivor moves her every day to support others in living and loving with great fullness of heart. She is the author of Wake Up Grateful: The Transformative Practice of Taking Nothing for Granted. In this episode, I talk to Kristi Nelson about gratefulness. She differentiates gratefulness from gratitude by describing the former as an orientation towards life, without being dependent on internal or external circumstances. Kristi shares with us the practice of Stop, Look, Go and her five guiding principles that can inspire you to live a life of gratefulness. We also touch on the topics of positive psychology, mindfulness, play, and self-compassion.Website: gratefulness.org Topics03:01 Kristi's cancer diagnosis 04:17 Gratitude vs gratefulness08:50 Gratefulness during hard times12:37 Reclaim play, curiosity, courage15:58 Life is a gift18:08 Everything is a surprise20:41 The ordinary is extraordinary23:48 Appreciation is generative26:55 Say yes to your life32:46 Love is transformative34:35 Stop, Look, Go38:18 Befriending our full selves40:43 Leaving a grateful legacy
If you're a parent, you know how good it feels to hear your child show appreciation for something you've done for them. Have you ever considered that it's the same for God? It's a no-brainer for us to go to Him when we're in trouble or in need, but how often do we go back and thank Him for coming through for us? The greatest show of gratitude we could demonstrate is to come before Him in praise and worship for all He's done for us.
It's easy to go to God when we need something, but do we go back and thank Him when He provides what we need? As our Heavenly Father, God loves for us to come to Him in praise and thanks for all that He has done and continues to do in our lives.
