I welcome back the legendary Roine Stolt from The Flower Kings to discuss LOVE, the new album from the Swedish progressive rock masters. This 17th studio release is sure to appeal to longtime fans of the band, as The Flower Kings have produced an album that builds on their recent releases while calling back to their classic sound. Roine was kind enough to tell me the stories behind the recording and writing of LOVE, the guitars he used, and even a few surprises about the band's co-headlining tour with Neal Morse & the Resonance. Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. KAIPA was the leading Scandinavian progressive band in the 70's and recorded five albums during the years 1975 - 1982. Their albums contained mostly instrumental music, drawing its influences from classic progressive rock bands (CAMEL, YES, GENESIS...), and classical music (BACH). Taking basic inspiration from Swedish folk music they performed an elaborate symphonic aiming at the expression of emotions and feelings in an aesthetic of formal beauty and melodic perfection. Initially the project of keyboardist Hans Lundin and bassist Tomas Eriksson, the band soon grew to include drummer Ingemar Bergman and singer/guitarist Roine Stolt, the latter of whom would eventually go on to form the Flower Kings. Twenty years passed before Lundin and Stolt re-formed a new edition of Kaipa, producing their sixth album, 2002's Notes from the Past. While the group's first five albums were sung entirely in Swedish, Notes from the Past was notable for launching their English-language phase, which continued each subsequent release. Although Stolt again departed, leaving Lundin to captain the band through its next decade, which produced a prolific four LPs. Kaipa has remained a staple of the Inside Out Music label. And now in 2024 Kaipa are back! In the summer of 1964 Hans Lundin's musical career started when he became a member of his first band as organist and singer. He says that the following years were "the best education I could ever get". Nine years later in 1973 he formed the group KAIPA. Now 60 years into his career he and his current bandmates Per Nilsson, Jonas Reingold, Darby Todd, Patrik Lundström & Aleena Gibson are proud to announce the release of Kaipa's 15th studio album Sommargryningsljus (Summer Dawn Light). The dawn theme has always been close to Hans Lundin's heart in his songwriting. With the new album he closes the circle and returns to where it all began. Sommargryningsljus will be released via InsideOutMusic June 28th in 2024. The band recently released their second single from the new album called "Revelationview". Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho Jonas Lindberg & The Other Side is a Progressive rock project from Stockholm, Sweden founded in 2012 by bass player, songwriter, and producer Jonas Lindberg. It all started back in 2008 when the EP "IN SECRET PACE" was recorded by Jonas as an exam-project at the college of Music in Sweden. The first recordings featured a large lineup of musicians and was originally intended to work as a demo for an upcoming band. But as term ended Jonas moved to Stockholm to pursue a career as a freelance musician and the idea got put on hold. In 2012 "IN SECRET PACE" was finally released on digital platforms as Jonas started to work on new material. This time the lineup featured a 5-piece band and the second EP "THE OTHER SIDE" was finished and released in 2013. The project was named "JONAS LINDBERG & THE OTHER SIDE" from the title track of the album after its release. Following the enthusiastic reception of the 2016 album "PATHFINDER", Jonas began working on another full-length album in 2019. The album - called "MILES FROM NOWHERE" - is more of a solo effort than the previous album with Jonas playing most of the instruments himself, and features a few more guest musicians. Returning on a few tracks is Simon WILHELMSSON (drums) as well as Jonas's brother Joel on lead guitar. The 2022 release consists of seven songs which spans the full range of the progressive rock landscape - from the soaring “Summer Queen” (led by Jenny Storm) to the folksy instrumental "Astral Journey" to the closing title track; a sprawling 25-minute epic which features none other than Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings, Transatlantic) on lead guitar.

Ahoy listeners! This week strap in for a 4-hour tour to the bottom of the sea of completely self-indulgent noodling… nah, just kidding! We have raided the Prog Rock crypt, yet we've prepared a bite-size slab of the genre that pushes the boundaries of rock music with a diverse mix of, well… everything! Kevin's prog-rock cruise that was postponed in 2020 is finally setting sail this week, so we thought we'd feature several of the artists that will be featured on the ship. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Prog rock in the 60s and 70s initially had mostly classical music and jazz influences, but over the last 40-years, it has come to include other fusions of music styles including metal, punk, funk, folk, and electronic. From Zappa and Sgt. Pepper to today's Djent and Post-Prog movements… This is Prog Rock! Get yer nerd on!Songs this week include:Riverside – “Rainbow Box” from Rapid Eye Movement (2007)Transatlantic – “Rainbow Sky” from The Absolute Universe: Forevermore (2021)Wishbone Ash – “The King Will Come” from Argus (1972) District 97 – “Stay For The Ending” from Many New Things (2022)Pain Of Salvation – “Angel Of Broken Things” from In The Passing Light Of Day (2017)Marillion – “Murder Machines” from An Hour Before It's Dark (2022)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
Neal Morse formed and played in many bands in his youth, learning and mastering several instruments along the way. In 1995, he wrote and recorded with his band Spock's Beard The Light, an album based firmly in the then unfashionable progressive (‘prog') rock genre. This album quickly became a modern prog classic and began to bring Neal and the band global recognition. In 2000, he also joined forces to form Transatlantic, a ‘prog rock supergroup' that won further acclaim - and yet more fans - across the world. A second supergroup with Mike Portnoy followed - Flying Colors –with whom he earned his first #1 international chart position. Forging out on his own in 2003, Neal has made a series of ground-breaking albums. In 2015 he formed The Neal Morse Band. The flower king himself, Roine Stolt called to talk about the difficulties of drum recordings, a very unorthodox approach to writing lyrics and of course everything else you need to know about "Islands", the latest double album by prog rock legends The Flower Kings. All that and more, only on Episode 087 of The Progcast.
