Meanwhile, the same firm has sent some thugs to kidnap the baby of Owen Grady's trained raptor dinosaur. They've also kidnapped Owen and his wife, and Claire's adopted daughter, Maisie. The two situations turn out to be related. So, the five heroes all team up together.

Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. With 2015’s Jurassic World, it showed that dinosaurs were still hip. Not only a big box office draw but also a critical success. Colin Trevorrow, the original director, along with his longtime screenwriting partner Derek Connolly, co-wrote the script for the new 2018 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Spaniard director J.A. Bayona takes the reins bringing back leads Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in what has turned out to be another box office success. Three years later, after the original park has been abandoned, a volcanic eruption happens upon the Costa Rican island that the dinosaurs inhabit. Claire Dearing, with the help of Owen Grady and the Lockwood Corporation, decide to try to save the dinosaurs and transport them to another island for safety. But nefarious forces are at works where they not only want to take the dinosaurs for their own corporate reasons, but also plan to murder anyone who is in their way. This new movie, though receiving much harsher reviews, has become an international box office sensation. Many critics feel it is silly and a bit of a retread to the prior films, but audiences are lapping it up with enthusiasm. Dark Discussions takes a look at this new entrée in the Jurassic franchise and give their thoughts on whether the film lives up to the dinosaur mayhem of the prior film. Lava Finds a Way This week on the podcast Johnny and Brian travel back to Isla Nublar to see what is happening with those pesky dinosaurs clones. Then they spend the episode reviewing the latest Jurassic World outing. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) Summary Three years after the incident at Jurassic World, Isla Nublar has been abandoned. A small team of mercenaries arrives on the island to collect DNA from the Indominus Rex, whose remains lie at the bottom of the park’s lagoon. After sending a bone fragment to the surface, the team is attacked by the park’s Mosasaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex. As the team barely escapes, the lagoon gate is left open, allowing the Mosasaurus to escape into the ocean. In the United States mainland, a U.S. Senate hearing debates whether Isla Nublar’s dinosaurs should be saved from an impending volcanic eruption. Mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm testifies that the dinosaurs should be allowed to perish to correct the mistake John Hammond made by cloning them long ago. Meanwhile, Jurassic World’s former operations manager, Claire Dearing, has created the Dinosaur Protection Group to save the dinosaurs. "Your [filmmakers] were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." –Dr. Ian Malcolm The fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" franchise from 2015, "Jurassic World," is yet another mediocre sequel to the original 1993 masterpiece. The story is unoriginal, the characters are annoying cartoons and the special effects aren't even as realistic as the first one, despite 22 years of CGI advancement. Chris Pratt plays Owen Grady, a former Navy dude who now trains attack Velociraptors for a super shady Blackwater-esque organization, but somehow he is shocked that his employers have plans to use the raptors for exactly what he trained them to do. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Claire Dearing, the Jurassic World Operations Manager who somehow directly oversees every single aspect of how the park runs, including genetic development and security, but after disaster strikes, we find out that she has virtually no knowledge of many of her areas of responsibility. Vincent D'Onofrio plays Vic Hoskins, a stereotypical militaristic bad guy character who brazenly uses Claire's accidental unleashing of a genetically-engineered super raptor in order to field test Chris Pratt’s raptors. B.D. Wong plays Dr. Henry Wu, a geneticist who worked at the original Jurassic Park and is now inexplicably a villain bent on creating murderous super dinos FOR NO REASON. Irrfan Khan plays Simon Masrani, a Richard Branson-esque billionaire playboy who took over the dinosaur park business after John Hammond's death. Jake Johnson and Lauren Lapkus play grating employees in the park's control room who make viewers of the film want to claw their own eyes out and deafen themselves. Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins play the Mitchell boys, two moron kids who repeatedly disobey Jurassic World's rules and land themselves in extreme danger.
