The Go Radio Football Show: 24th of February 2026. PLAY and HIT SUBSCRIBE, and NEVER miss an episode! A weekend where controversy overshadowed quality, tempers flared on and off the pitch, and the title race somehow became even tighter. This episode is a full‑throttle dive into the most controversial refereeing weekend of the season — and the decision to hand John Beaton the whistle for Rangers v Celtic. With VAR dominating headlines, Paul Cooney, Mark Guidi and Darren O'Dea unpack a catalogue of officiating errors, the psychology of referees under scrutiny, and the growing sense that the title race is being shaped as much by the men in the middle as the players on the pitch. The Beaton Appointment Shock Darren O'Dea admits he's “surprised he's been picked” for the derby. Mark Guidi goes harder: Beaton's “off‑form this season” and hasn't earned this fixture. The panel question whether Willie Collum has chosen form — or simply rotation. VAR: From Safety Net to Circus Multiple examples of VAR interventions that still produced the wrong outcome. Mark blasts the “cosiness” between refs and VAR officials — no one wants to overrule a colleague. Darren: the real anger comes from refs having all the angles… and still getting it wrong. The Trusty Red Card & Scales Penalty Debate O'Dea: Trusty's action was “idiotic” but not the kind of thing you want to see red cards for. Guidi: Scales' jersey pull happens at every set piece — not a penalty for him. Celtic's appeal? Dismissed. Three‑match ban stands. Rangers' Stumble at Livingston Danny Röhl praises the “character” to come back from 2–0 down. Fans furious at dropped points against a side winless since August. Caller Paul questions John Souttar's form — and whether he's costing Rangers. Hearts & Motherwell: The Real Title Disruptors Hearts keep grinding out results; Guidi says they're “playing with no pressure.” Motherwell's defensive record is elite — only 18 conceded in 27 games. Caller Hugh claims they could go unbeaten in the final 11 games. Darren doesn't dismiss it. Celtic's Form Crisis O'Dea: Celtic “don't look like Celtic” and will need to scrap their way through the run‑in. Guidi: despite everything, the title is still in Celtic's hands — win out, and they're champions. The Old Firm Showdown Looms Rangers favourites at Ibrox — but neither side convincing. Guidi: Rangers haven't won a meaningful derby in years. O'Dea: the winner on Sunday gets the psychological spark they've both been missing. In a region characterized by high unemployment, food insecurity, and depleted fish stocks, many fishers are forced to migrate. The fishmeal plants dotting the coast have only exacerbated these existing problems, economist Rashid Sumaila notes, saying that “overfishing would still be an issue in West Africa without the plants. But the plants make them worse.” On this episode of The Catch, host Ruxandra Guidi and her reporting partners look into the migration crisis. Senegalese reporter Borso Tall shares her reporting from a village in the region of St. Louis directly impacted by a fishmeal plant. Late July, August, and September (the dog days of summer with the constellation Sirius high in the night sky) are perhaps the stretch of the year in most climates of the Northern Hemisphere that really show you what your garden and plants are made of (for better or worse) after months of them producing and growing under long hours of sun, high heat, and either humidity or drought. Or smoke. It's also the season when many of our most durable and prismatic shrubs are showing off to great advantage in rounded forms, seed, fruit, and foliage colors, certainly in our wildlands. And possibly in our gardens? This is where Kevin Philip Williams and Michael Guidi of the Denver Botanic Gardens come in. Their new book Shrouded in Light: Naturalistic Planting Inspired by Wild Shrublands celebrates the great diversity, incredible beauty, and many gifts and lessons that the wild shrublands of our world have to offer our gardens and cultivated landscapes—environmentally and aesthetically—no matter where you garden. I want to echo Kevin and Michael's email greeting when I invited them to be guests on Cultivating Place: Welcome to the Shrub Club! Enjoy. Cultivating Place now has a donate button! Most of us who work for ourselves probably don't love marketing but know that it's a necessary task to attract more clients. Some take a more traditional approach—constantly sharing work and services on social media or socializing at conferences. But that might not work for everyone. In this episode, Wudan talks with Ruxandra (Rux) Guidi. Rux is a narrative journalist working in print and audio based in Tucson, Arizona. Her work is published in the BBC, NPR, Marketplace, High Country News, The New York Times and The Atlantic, among others. You can follow her at https://www.fonografiacollective.com/ or on Instagram. Rux and Wudan dig into how to reframe ‘marketing' as something that is anti-hustle and anti-capitalistic, discuss the importance of community, and talk about drumming up work in a way that is unique to YOU. On today's episode of The Catch, host Ruxandra Guidi continues her exploration of the Upper Gulf of California to learn more about what can be done to stop illegal gillnet fishing. We hear from Zak Smith, a senior attorney and the director of global biodiversity conservation at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). He led an effort to force a U.S. embargo on seafood from the area. Guidi then reports on the efforts made by the NRDC and others to compel Mexico to follow its own laws to protect the vaquita. She and her travel companions venture out on a boat to see firsthand whether or not tighter restrictions have impacted local fishers and the market for the highly desirable blue shrimp. Get ready to laugh and be inspired with my next guest Susan Guidi. We met in my live podcast interview with Joan McDonald who in her 70s transformed her body, her health and her life. And Susan is a friend of Joan's who joined us in that interview. We immediately hit it off and she has her own story of transformation in her 60s that we share today. And I guarantee, you will be inspired. The reason I invited Susan on the podcast is because she is someone just like you and me. During the pandemic, like so many, she fell into unhealthy habits, gained a ton of weight, was not happy with her body and decided she had to do something about it. She luckily found Joan, got to work in bodybuilding and won some great competitions like the 50 Figure division (when she was 65) showing that we can do anything at any age. Susan is now 66. Bodybuilding is her new love, but she is also an entrepreneur in obstetrics and gynecology and…. a comedian. When she isn't performing ultrasounds she is performing on Zoom and in person with her Improv troupe "The Improvaholics." But Susan's true love is inspiring women to take a chance and believe in themselves again. This episode is sponsored by Oxford Healthspan. The makers of my favorite spermidine supplement Primeadine. On today's episode, we look into what led to the dire situation faced by the vaquita and the fishing communities in the Upper Gulf of California. Host Ruxandra Guidi and her travel companions learn more about the history of fishing in the area and how demand for high value seafood such as the totoaba and blue shrimp led to a dire situation for the vaquita porpoise. In this episode, Guidi speaks to Carlos Tirado, a champion of sustainable fishing in the Upper Gulf. He's also the leader of the Regional Federation of small-scale fishers, an independent association. Later, she heads out on the water with Captain Naya to explore an area where scientists had hoped to study and protect vaquita in captivity. Learn more about your ad choices. In the Part One of our new season of The Catch, host Ruxandra Guidi along with co-reporter Ernesto Méndez and marine biologist Alex Olivera travel to the Upper Gulf of California to meet with local experts and shrimp fishers. The underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau once deemed this area "The Aquarium of the World" because it was so rich in biodiversity. But unfortunately much of this ecological wonder is under threat due to illegal gillnet fishing. At the center of everything is a small porpoise called the vaquita whose numbers have dwindled to less than a dozen. In this episode Guidi speaks to local fishers and hears from environmentalist Rick Brusca as well as former NOAA fisheries official Barbara Taylor. They discuss how the highly desirable blue shrimp endemic to the Gulf of California has been tied up in conservation efforts to protect the vaquita. Learn more about your ad choices.
