June 13, 2026; 8am: On Friday, a federal judge extended an indefinite block on Trump's $1.8 billion so-called “anti-weaponization” fund. In her decision, the judge cited acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's unwillingness to rescind the order in writing, as well as Trump's continued public push for the fund. The judge said she will consider rescinding her order if the DOJ submits a sworn written declaration that the administration is not moving forward with the fund, and is giving them until next Friday to act. Former Federal Prosecutor Ankush Khardori and Skye Perryman, whose nonprofit organization represented the plaintiffs challenging the fund, join “The Weekend” to discuss. The ability to control your body and when, how, and if you get pregnant and raise children is a fundamental freedom that should be recognized by the law. Skye Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward, sits down to talk with us about the direct connection between the opportunities and support that women and girls have and the strengths of democracies, and how the U.S. (among other countries) is clearly experiencing a democratic backslide. The FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) Act was passed in the early 1990s with bipartisan support. The law was put in place to address a surge in violence and harassment, targeting, and blockading of reproductive health care clinics. The Trump administration has consistently misrepresented and threatened the FACE Act, including going after litigators who prosecuted under FACE Act violations. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has put together a 900-page report intended to discredit prosecutors and civil servants and to create a narrative to justify those facing being fired by the department. For more information, check out Boom! The Justice Department quietly adds a stunning amendment to a wildly corrupt agreement that created a $1.776 billion compensation fund tied to former President Trump. Tucked into the slush fund for Trump's allies, a ban on the IRS ever auditing Trump, his family, his companies or related entities for returns filed before the deal. Does Trump have something to hide? Is this the reason he never officially released his tax returns …because something sinister is lurking inside of them ? We will examine the reasons Acting AG Todd Blanche may have included that ban in the deal, accusations that Blanche is acting as Trump's consigliere and why Blanche set himself up as the person to choose the five-person board to approve payouts. Those members would be removable at the president's will. Journalist John Harwood calls the settlement a Trump smash & grab. Does this deal mean public accountability is dead?Mark welcomes John Rothmann, presidential historian and host of the Around the Political World with John Rothmann podcast to discuss this and more.Skye Perryman, with Democracy Forward, will stop by to talk about using the law to fight the corruption in the Trump administration. May 2, 2026, 8 AM; In the name of disentangling race from voting, the Supreme Court has made it virtually impossible for Black voters to challenge gerrymandered congressional maps. For decades, Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act acted as a guardrail, preventing Southern legislatures from carving Black voters out of political power. Within hours of that ruling, states across the South began moving to redraw their maps ahead of the midterms. President and CEO of Democracy Forward Skye Perryman and Melissa Murray join The Weekend to discuss how this will affect voting and the midterms. The Weekend's Jackie Alemany spoke by phone with President Donald Trump on his just-announced peace talks with Iran. Over the phone, he told Alemany that the American negotiators will be U.S. Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and also Vice President JD Vance will not be traveling to participate in talks. John's monologue dives into a mixed bag of stories. After dozens of states sued Ticketmaster and Live Nation - a jury has found that they had an anticompetitive monopoly over big concert venues. Also, Republicans in the Senate have again blocked an effort to advance a bill reigning in Donald Trump's power to make war in Iran. AND - Trump posted another AI image, this time WITH Jesus canoodling in reverent prayer. Plus, JD Vance went on to mansplain the "Just War" theory to the Pope. Then, John speaks with Democracy Forward President and CEO Skye Perryman. Democracy Forward filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to compel the release of records related to the agency's communications and activities concerning election administration, including potential efforts to restrict voting access and reported coordination with individuals and groups associated with election denial. This lawsuit comes as the Trump-Vance administration has continued efforts to threaten states, intimidate election officials, and call into question the integrity of voting systems ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Next, The God Squad returns. Desimber Rose and Dillon Naber Cruz talk about religious wars and why isn't not cool to fight with the Pope. And lastly, legal analyst Dr. Tracy Pearson joins the crew to debate the legalities of the war in Iran and other current events.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In breaking news, a new lawsuit has been filed to expose the unholy relationship between the Election Denial Movement, “Team America,” a shadowy group within the Trump Administration, and the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, as reported by ProPublica. Popok is joined by Democracy Forward's founder Skye Perryman to discuss her new lawsuit to put all the “liars in one room,” and get to the bottom of the election deniers who are pulling the levers of power for Trump to expose them and ultimately sue to stop them. But again, he will fail. One of the reasons he will fail is because we have great nonprofit organizations fighting against Trump's lawlessness and dictatorial zeal in court every single day. One of the leading nonprofit organizations is Democracy Forward. They have brought countless legal challenges against Trump's lawlessness and unconstitutionality, and they are beating the Trump administration in court time and time again.Glenn interviewed the president of Democracy forward, Skye Perryman, about the extraordinary work of her organization. This is philanthropy's rainy day.Across communities, the escalation of ICE activity is terrifying. Families are living in fear. Core pillars of our democracy are under attack. Meanwhile, too many funders are still holding back, waiting for a crisis that's already here.In this episode, Glen and Ralph Lewin weigh in on why escalating ICE actions should be a wake-up call for philanthropy to step up in real ways to protect our communities. They challenge the persistent myth that philanthropy must conserve resources for a future emergency.Spoiler alert: this is the emergency.Special guest, Skye Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward, joins the conversation to share how ongoing litigation is actively defending our democracy. Skye brings both urgency and hope—reminding us that, despite efforts to flood the zone, the people are winning more than they're losing. But we will only win if philanthropy fully funds the legal, advocacy, and organizing efforts that make those wins possible.

Welcome to Specifically for Seniors, the podcast that celebrates the wisdom, wit, and willpower of older adults who refuse to sit quietly on the sidelines.Today's episode is a rich opportunity to spotlight the civic firepower of senior activism and the strategic brilliance behind We the Seniors—a grassroots movement that's proving age is not a limitation, but a launchpad for change. Our guests, Mary Mulvihill and Judy Loeb, are the architects of this powerful network. Katie Porter, Liz Cheney and Jen Johnson —not just to inform, but to inspire.Mary brings decades of organizing experience and a gift for turning civic frustration into coordinated action. In the next chapter of her career, She turned her focus to revitalizing nonprofits, serving as Executive Director of two different nonprofits.Judy, a former regional director for Emily's List as a result of her anger over the Anita Hill hearings and a lifelong advocate, adds strategic depth and fundraising savvy to the mix. Together, they've built the platform,We The Seniors, that amplifies senior voices, connects communities across 15 states, and redefines what it means to age with agency.Whether you're a seasoned activist or just beginning to explore your civic power, this conversation will challenge assumptions, spark ideas, and remind us all that democracy thrives when seniors lead. Let's dive into their story, their mission, and the unstoppable force of senior volunteers.
The Trump regime wants us feel powerless, like their take over is inevitable, but it's not. Part of the struggle is simply not giving up. To stay engaged and keep your people informed as to what they're doing to our health care, our education, our voting rights, our civil rights and then responding with action. That is what Sky Perryman and her team at Democracy Forward is doing to great success. In a recent article in the Atlantic titled “The Anti-Trump Resistance That is Actually Working” Democracy Forward is called “the single largest source of Trump‘s legal troubles”. So although every day might feel like the bad guys are winning, when you look at the courts - real, and the court of public opinion - they're actually losing. They're losing. Every. Single. Day. Trump has been in office for 200 days. In those 200 days, important institutions core to democracy have been dismantled. The rule of law has been challenged in countless ways—increasingly violent ICE raids and disappearances, dismantling of important agencies, canceling of funding for public broadcasts, significant rollbacks of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, draconian cuts to healthcare and social services, executive orders singling out queer and trans people, and much more. But we've also seen a coordinated effort to resist him, with millions across the country taking to the streets again and again to protest on behalf of the rights of their neighbors, their families, and themselves. Attorneys and advocates are also stepping up, demanding courts to defend our rights. Two hundred days in, what have we learned—and what's the playbook for the next four years?Helping us to sort out these questions and set the record straight is our very special guest, Skye Perryman: Skye L. Perryman is President and CEO of Democracy Forward, a nonpartisan, national legal organization that promotes democracy and progress through litigation, regulatory engagement, policy education, and research. She previously served as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The U.S. Institute for Peace announced Monday that despite being independent of the executive branch and controlling its own building and the land it sits on, their objections to members of Elon Musk's DOGE team trespassing in their building were overridden by D.C. police. That came after an earlier confrontation in which DOGE was accompanied by the FBI. Skye Perryman, president of Democracy Forward, who is suing the U.S. Marshals for information on DOGE after a similar raid, joins to discuss the unprecedented nature of DOGE leveraging the threat of armed law enforcement against another part of the government.
If people are wondering where the pushback to the nightmare of the Trump administration is, it's in the courts. In the absence of executive leadership, and with the abandonment of of legislative leadership, the judicial branch has gone from democracy's last line of defense to it's first. In fact, there are lawyers and activists working day and night to hold off the worst instincts of presidency. As Democracy Forward's Skye Perryman says, “The most powerful tool the Trump administration has is to convince us we have no power, but it's not true. There are people fighting everyday, not just to hold off the worst decisions, but to continue to move us forward towards something better.” Our country's under attack and our media isn't even talking about it. Which is why, now more than ever, we need to support those doing independent work to tell the truth, when it's increasingly hard to find.
