Schrijver Dieter Rogiers heeft een roman uit waarin het Brussel van de toekomst de hoofdrol speelt. 'Bot mes' dient zich aan als een thriller, maar verwijst ook naar de oester die je met dat soort mes openwrikt om de parel te ontdekken.Rogiers is sinds jaar en dag Brusselaar. "Ik begrijp Brussel zelf ook niet helemaal, de stad is een surrealistisch gegeven," legt hij aan Melina Verbeeck uit. "Soms zou je de koterij met de grond gelijk willen maken. Maar dan neem je ook de charme weg."

Scènes uit een schoolleven is een boek van Filip Rogiers. Het is het verslag van zijn eerste jaar als stagiair-leraar op het Atheneum Unesco Koekelberg. Rogiers was jarenlang journalist voor De Standaard, maar ruilde die job in voor een carrière als zij-instromer in het secundair onderwijs. Met twee van zijn leerlingen, Marcel en Luu, vertelt hij in Voorproevers over het leven op school, het lerarentekort, overladen tienerbreinen, de waarde van een zes op tien en de weging van talent

In aflevering 57 is Rogier van Vugt te gast voor een gesprek over de Flora van Macaronesië. Rogier is Hoofd Horticultuur bij de Hortus botanicus van de Universiteit Leiden en plantenkenner par excellence. Een van zijn favoriete reisbestemmingen zijn de eilandengroepen die samengebundeld de naam Macaronesië dragen. Hiertoe behoren: de Canarische eilanden, Madeira, de Selvagens eilanden, de Azoren en de verderop gelegen Kaapverdische Eilanden. Wat Rogier naar deze bestemming trekt is de unieke eilandflora. Hier vind je plantensoorten die nergens anders ter wereld groeien. Van reusachtige melkdistels en drakenbloedbomen tot de het liefelijke Madeira viooltje. Bij zijn eilandbezoeken is Rogier bijzonder geïnteresseerd in orchideeën. Macaronesië huisvest verschillende uiterst zeldzame endemische orchideeën. Rogier speurt deze op met hulp van lokale plantenvrienden en legt ze vast voor de wetenschap. Maar deze aflevering gaat over veel meer dan de flora van Macaronesië. Ook andere plantenexpedities, die hij samen met zijn vrouw Petra maakten, passeren ook de revue. En Rogier deelt zijn kijk op problemen rondom invasieve exoten, ontbossing en flora-bescherming.
