From Shiny to Strategic: The Maturation of AI Across Industries // MLOps Podcast #303 with David Cox, VP of Data Science; Assistant Director of Research at RethinkFirst; Institute of Applied Behavioral Science.Join the Community: https://go.mlops.community/YTJoinIn Get the newsletter: https://go.mlops.community/YTNewsletter // AbstractShiny new objects are made available to artificial intelligence(AI) practitioners daily. For many who are not AI practitioners, the release of ChatGPT in 2022 was their first contact with modern AI technology. This led to a flurry of funding and excitement around how AI might improve their bottom line. Two years on, the novelty of AI has worn off for many companies but remains a strategic initiative. This strategic nuance has led to two patterns that suggest a maturation of the AI conversation across industries. First, conversations seem to be pivoting from "Are we doing [the shiny new thing]" to serious analysis of the ROI from things built. This reframe places less emphasis on simply adopting new technologies for the sake of doing so and more emphasis on the optimal stack to maximize return relative to cost. Second, conversations are shifting to emphasize market differentiation. That is, anyone can build products that wrap around LLMs. In competitive markets, creating products and functionality that all your competitors can also build is a poor business strategy (unless having a particular thing is industry standard). Creating a competitive advantage requires companies to think strategically about their unique data assets and what they can build that their competitors cannot. // BioDr. David Cox can formally lay claim to being a bioethicist (master's degree), a board-certified behavior analyst at the doctoral level, a behavioral economist (post-doc training), and a full-stack data scientist (post-doc training). He currently works as the Assistant Director of Research for the Institute of Applied Behavioral Science at Endicott College and the VP of Data Science at RethinkFirst. David also likes to write, having published 60+ peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and a few books. In today's conversation, we received wisdom and insight from Dr. Steve Porter about all things spiritual formation and transformation – in personal, pastoral and church contexts. Steve's work at the intersection of philosophy, theology and psychology means that he brings multilayered insight into the conversation around growth and transformation. Shaped and informed by the spirituality of Paul and the insight of folks like Dallas Willard and Eugene Peterson, Steve reminds us of the spiritual realities available to us as persons in Christ. He encourages us to be aware of God's presence, engaging in spiritual practices as windows that open ourselves to God. He also shares how we can internalize the love of God and how we as the church can support one another in making the invisible love of God visible and tangible, especially if we have struggled to experience that love in human relationships. We're excited that Steve will be joining us at Regent in the summer to teach a class on Cultivating Formation-Minded Pastors and Churches (July 21-25). We'd love for you to join us!BioDr. Steven L. She opens up about the emotional and psychological toll of physicians being sued. She shares her own journey through litigation and how it inspired her to help others facing similar struggles. Dr. Pensa helps refine doctors' mindset during litigation, providing insightful guidelines to help defend themselves with confidence and clarity during depositions and trials. She recommends two goals for everyone in deposition; one is to accept the situation. Letting go of the emotions rather than argue over reality. At best grief, but don't suffer guilt. Secondly, that physicians be good defendants for themselves. She stresses that the physician's overall objective is to get the jury into their thought process, since they are not medical practitioners themselves. She believes that by supporting each other and advocating for systemic change, physicians can not only survive litigation but grow stronger through it. She also encourages doctors to push back against the unrealistic expectation of perfection in medicine, reminding them that they're humans. BIODr. Gita S. Pensa, M.D. is a speaker, educator, coach, and creator of Doctors and Litigation: The L Word. An associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Clinician Educator, and Associate Director of the Emergency Digital Health Innovation program at Alpert Medical School of Brown University. “Evolutionary architecture became a necessity, not because anybody wanted it to be, but because you didn't have a choice. You have to be able to change your systems to keep up with changing business and consumer expectations, let alone regulatory frameworks.” In this episode, I have an insightful conversation with Rebecca Parsons, coauthor of Building Evolutionary Architectures and ex-CTO of ThoughtWorks, on the topic of evolutionary architecture. Rebecca shares the definition and principles of evolutionary architecture, as well as some important practices that software engineering teams can adopt to support it. Rebecca also offers her perspective on the impact of AI in software development and evolutionary architecture. Key takeaways: - Evolutionary architecture supports guided, incremental change across multiple dimensions. - Fitness functions are a key tool for implementing evolutionary architecture. - Some of the important engineering practices for evolutionary architecture include continuous delivery, evolutionary database, contract testing, and choreography over orchestration. - AI coding assistants can help analyze and understand complex legacy systems, aiding in refactoring and modernization efforts. - Over-reliance on AI coding assistants may hinder the development of proper abstraction and critical thinking skills, especially in junior developers. Dr. Toya explains that, despite medical culture often stigmatizing self-advocacy, asking is not just a negotiation skill but a life-changing habit that aligns personal and professional values.Dr. Toya sheds light on barriers such as fear of rejection, cultural conditioning, and judgment that discourage physicians from requesting better schedules, pay, or wellness accommodations. She reframes "no" as an opportunity to understand objections, gain clarity, and move closer to "yes." Her approach focuses on understanding your true desires, knowing the real reason behind your requests, and ensuring everything you ask for reflects your value and matches what matters most to you. BioDr. La Toya Luces-Sampson, affectionately known as Dr. Toya on social media, is a wife, mother, board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist, perinatal mental health specialist, and Coach. Born with Amniotic Band Syndrome causing hand deformities and a club foot, she underwent multiple surgeries as a child. Despite medical interventions, she continued to experience pain and limited mobility. Initially considering pharmacy as a career, Dr. Stubbs realized that health doesn't come in a pill. Her first adjustment in chiropractic school was transformative, saving her from additional surgeries and opening her eyes to alternative care. This experience solidified her decision to become a chiropractor, driven by the belief that maintaining health is easier than recovering from illness. This week I'm talking to Dr. Simeon Hein about his book 'Black Swan Ghosts: A Sociologist Encounters Witnesses to Unexplained Aerial Craft, Their Occupants, and Other Elements of the Multiverse'.What happens when you encounter a controversial phenomenon that can destroy your career? New bonus feature—Stunning witness video interviews from the book online: links and info provided in the book text. Black Swan Ghosts investigates how our society treats witnesses to unexplained events, unidentified aerial objects, and mysterious beings. It's a topic I once dismissed as weird, fringe, and crazy—something I'd avoid. However, after getting involved in Remote Viewing and getting to know participants in this previously classified government program, I began encountering more highly credible witnesses to these hard-to-explain phenomena. Eventually, the weight of the evidence overcame any doubts I had about the authenticity and veridicality of these subjects. This book investigates why our society is so reluctant to engage and address the critical issues raised by such phenomena. Why are we afraid to take the subject seriously? What are the consequences to the witnesses? Precisely, what kind of universe do we live in?The book contains:    Witness stories from a former Air Force and commercial pilot.    Children of high-ranking Air Force officials.    An Aerospace engineer who worked for NASA's JPL.    A former NASA astrobiologist.    A nuclear missile security guard from Minot AFB    A retired US government remote viewer, and many others. Now includes video interviews on the BlackSwanGhosts.com website with many of the witnesses in the book.Black Swan Ghosts includes witness accounts of a hostile encounter between US Air Force jets and a strange object over Lake Superior in the 1960s; B-52s during the Cold War get scanned by mysterious objects from space near the Soviet border; a former government remote viewer recounts contact with an alien control panel and interview by intelligence agents; campers on Silbury Hill, UK witness strange luminous objects hovering with a secondary sighting by supporting witness; a NASA astrobiologist shows evidence of meteoric extraterrestrial fossils, suppressed Skylab UFO photos, and first-hand account of accidental near-launch of Soviet nuclear missiles caused by huge unidentified disc; a woman and friend have car stall and experience missing time near Mt.
