On our latest weekly roundup, we catch you up on our winter-break adventures (which were less wintry than in years past). What we're watching: Instead of watching something together, we reported on what we consumed during our time off. Catherine saw the movie The Boys in the Boat in an actual theater with multiple generations of family members. It's exactly the sort of movie that it sounds like it should be from that setup: historical, inspirational, Oscar-bait-y. Mission accomplished, Director George Clooney!Catherine also watched Asteroid City (on an airplane, which seems appropriate for this film set in a space-obsessed 1950s desert town). It's star-studded, with the Wes Anderson Quirk dial turned up to the max. Mentioned: The Afterparty's season 2 episode, "Hannah."Meanwhile, Terri subscribed to VEEPS, a streaming service that allows her to watch live and recorded concerts. She's checked out old favorites like HARDY and discovered new artists too, including The Summer Set and Something Corporate. It's a great value for the money if you love music but in-person concerts are not as fun as they used to be.Catherine's library find this week is a subset of the familiar Choose Your Own Adventure series. Did you know you can Choose Your Own Nightmare?! We'd rather not, but can imagine the appeal this might hold for some tweens and teens. In the archives, we revisit episodes in which we discussed parenting rites of passage (January 12, 2022), empty-nest careers (January 14, 2021), and real-life FastPasses (January 12, 2016).Next week, we'll watch the movie The Holdovers, which you can find on Peacock, Amazon Prime, and maybe even in your local movie theater. Until then (and anytime you're in need), the archives are available.

In this episode we interview Steve Parpart of the Something In The Wilderness podcast. It was fun to chat with a fellow Andrew McMahon superfan about his experiences, and what he thinks of Andrew's new album Tilt At The Wind No More. This is one of those conversations that could have gone on for hours if we let it. We also talk gatekeeping new fans, Something Corporate, and what Steve really thought as he interviewed Andrew McMahon himself. Fans of the 2000's music, this one's for you! Our Host, Pat Tully sits down with one of the most prolific indie pop singer-songwriters of the past two decades, Andrew McMahon.   Pat takes us on a musical journey of Andrew's meteoric rise through his early days with the group Something Corporate, which he started in high school, to his first solo project Jack's Mannequin to his current solo project Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness.   Andrew has been writing songs since he was 9 years old and led Something Corporate to major chart success in the early 2000's before branching out on his own.    Along the way, Andrew used personal painful and joyful experiences in his life to fuel his music. His own personal health struggles were the influence in many of his solo numbers and motivated him to start the Dear Jack Foundation to provide programming to benefit adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer.   His new album Tilt at the Wind No More comes five years after his last release, Upside Down Flowers. The album captures McMahon at a turning point: celebrating his 40th birthday and 15 years of marriage, raising a daughter, hiring a whole new team, life!    On this album he works with Producer Tommy English (K. Flay, Carly Rae Jepsen) and Producer Jeremy Hatcher (Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes).    Listen to hear more about the music, the journey and Andrew's own personal festival stories!    Hear more about these stories and some great music festival stories here on this episode of FestivalPass Stories.    To find out more about Andrew McMahon and his music: Andrew McMahon website: https://andrewmcmahon.com/  Follow him on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amnthewilderness/  Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/andrewmcmahon/  Connect with Festival Pass! On this episode of the podcast, Vanessa and Jonah are joined by musician Andrew McMahon (Something Corporate, Jack's Mannequin) to discuss how he defied the odds and instead of quitting piano lessons like we did, became a professional musician who wheeled a sticker-covered piano onto the stage of the Warped Tour and has became a well-respected musician who admittedly never really uses music theory. Vanessa and Andrew also finally reconcile a long-standing dispute about Andrew not emailing her back when she reached out to him as a complete stranger to talk about their shared cancer diagnosis and Jonah admits that he recently pulled a similar move when he was diagnosed with his own type of leukemia in 2019. We also play a special version of CEO TAKEDOWN: SOMETHING CORPORATE edition where we debate the Ok Go/Post Cereal controversy, the "Pepsi, Where's My Jet?" documentary and our complicated thoughts about A&W Root Beer's mascot. Be sure to check out Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness' new album "Tilt At The Wind No More" when it comes out on March 31st, just don't email him to tell him your thoughts because he probably won't write you back! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
