The Missouri Senate could vote this month on legislation that would repeal the law that says Mizzou is the exclusive grantor of degrees like medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, law and engineering. A Missouri Senate committee has voted to repeal the law. Missourians for Improving Higher Education co-founder Tom Strong, who's a Mizzou donor, is pushing for repeal. He tells 939 the Eagle's “Wake Up Missouri” that repeal would help students in rural southeast Missouri. Mr. Strong joined us live on "Wake Up" on Wednesday, saying Southeast Missouri State would love to have an engineering program. The University of Missouri opposes the bill. Mizzou vice provost Dr. Jim Spain testified at the Statehouse in Jefferson City recently and joined us live this morning on "Wake Up." Dr. Spain tells listeners that this is about efficiency with the funding that is available. He emphasizes that Mizzou's priority has been on student success. Dr. Spain also says all schools compete for students and emphasizes Mizzou is not against the other schools in question like SEMO or Missouri State:

The Missouri Senate Education Committee has voted to approve legislation that would repeal a law that the University of Missouri be the state's only public research university. State Sen. Lincoln Hough's (R-Springfield) Senate Bill 11 would also repeal the law that says Mizzou is the exclusive grantor of research doctorates and professional degrees like dentistry, law, medicine, optometry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine. It would also repeal the law's provision that says degrees in engineering may only be conferred by Mizzou "or a public institution of higher education in collaboration with the University of Missouri." Missourians for Improving Higher Education co-founder Tom Strong is pushing the bill. Mr. Strong, who graduated from Mizzou's School of Law, joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Missouri" and emphasizes it's not an anti-Mizzou bill. He notes he is a major donor to Mizzou and that his name is on a room at the law school in Columbia. Mr. Strong tells listeners that Senator Hough's bill allows other universities to perform as they can perform. He says Missouri State would love to have an engineering school and a pharmacy school, and that Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau would like to have an engineering school. Mr. Strong says high school students who want to pursue engineering are leaving for other states. He also says students in the Bootheel are closer to Ole Miss in Oxford than they are to Mizzou in Columbia. He's hopeful the bill will pass:

Saturday's North Dakota State game at the Fargodome may have the most at-stake during the regular season since the Bison championship dynasty began in 2011.   That final regular season home game in 2011, NDSU was matched up with Youngstown State and had a chance to clinch its first Missouri Valley Football Conference title. The Bison raced out to a 21-10 second quarter lead, only to see the Penguins rally and win the game 27-24, denying NDSU a chance to clinch the conference at home.   NDSU had to wait a week and win the league in Macomb, Illinois the following week. The Bison don't want to put off a win this week as they welcome in Southern Illinois for a monumental football game.   Each team enters with a 6-3 record and 3-3 mark in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The winner will get to the elusive 7-win plateau and likely cinch up a playoff berth. If the Bison were to lose, they would have to win a road game at Northern Iowa next week to be considered for the 24-team playoff.   SIU has had an up and down season much like the Bison. SIU started 3-0, which included an FBS win over Northern Illinois, and a road win against Southeast Missouri State. They have a bumpy road in conference play, which included a 31-3 blasting by Youngstown State and home losses to South Dakota State and South Dakota.   The Salukis were held to just 17 combined points in losses to SDSU and USD.   Nick Hill's team has never won in Fargo, losing all six games, including a 38-7 playoff defeat in the second round in 2021.   The Forum's Jeff Kolpack and WDAY's Dom Izzo preview the game and the implications surrounding it. They also discuss Senior Day and the players that could potentially return next season.

Raddysh's first career hat trick gave him 20 goals this season and six in his last four games. Chicago ended a three-game slide. Boris Katchouk scored a tiebreaking goal at 6:59 of the third period and added two assists for his first three-point game. Joey Anderson had a goal and an assist, and MacKenzie Entwistle also scored for Chicago, which entered tied for last place in the Western Conference. MLB – Major League Baseball – Spring Training Yesterday Detroit Tigers 6, Boston Red Sox 2 Chicago White Sox 5, Oakland A's 4 Colorado Rockies 5, Chicago Cubs 2 Today Chicago White Sox at San Francisco Giants, 4:05 p.m. Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds 9:05 p.m. Tigers are off NFL – AP source: Lions add David Montogmery, Emmanuel Moseley The Detroit Lions and running back David Montgomery have agreed on an $18 million, three-year deal, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Montgomery's deal includes $11 million in guaranteed money. The Lions also agreed with cornerback Emmanuel Moseley on a $6 million, one-year contract, a person familiar with that deal told the AP. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because the deals can't be announced until Wednesday. Montgomery ran for 801 yards and five touchdowns last season in his fourth year with the Chicago Bears. He averaged 902 yards per season and 3.9 yards per carry with 26 career TDs. NFL – Bears agree to deal with Titans DE DeMarcus Walker The Chicago Bears have added help on the defensive line, agreeing to a deal with former Tennessee Titans defensive end DeMarcus Walker. Walker tweeted that he has an agreement in place with Chicago. The Bears agreed to a two-year contract extension with fullback Khari Blasingame through the 2025 season and a one-year extension with long snapper Patrick Scales. Offensive lineman Dieter Eiselen — an exclusive rights free agent — signed a one-year contract. Walker is coming off his best year, with a career-high seven sacks in his lone season with the Titans. He played for Denver from 2017 to 2020 and Houston in 2021. The Bears sorely needed help on the defensive line after finishing with a league-worst 20 sacks, their lowest total since the 2003 team had 18. FIFA – FIFA expands 2026 World Cup again to create 104-game program The expanded World Cup in North America has gotten even more supersized. The governing body of soccer increased the size of the 2026 tournament for a second time. FIFA has created a bigger opening stage with four-team groups in a 104-game schedule. The tournament will now last nearly six weeks in June-July in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The decision adds 24 more games for the 16 host cities. That should further fuel FIFA's expected record revenue of at least $11 billion through 2026. The 1998 World Cup in France was the first with 32 teams. USA Soccer – US Soccer: Berhalter eligible to coach after investigation The U.S. Soccer Federation says Gregg Berhalter remains a candidate to stay on as men's national team coach after a report by a law firm concluded he did not improperly withhold information about a 1992 domestic violence allegation involving the woman who later became his wife. The report also concluded that Berhalter's conduct “likely constituted the misdemeanor crime of assault on a female” but that it was an isolated event. He can’t be prosecuted because of the two-year statute of limitations for misdemeanors. The law firm Alston and Bird was retained after the Reyna family reported the 30-year-old incident to the USSF. Iditarod – Grandson of Iditarod co-founder wins Alaska sled dog race Ryan Redington has won the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which his grandfather helped co-found. Redington's dog team pulled him down Nome's main street shortly after noon on Tuesday, sliding him under the iconic burled arch finish line. The 40-year-old Redington will pocket about $50,000 for the win. Redington's grandfather, Joe Redington Sr., helped start the Iditarod, which had its first race in 1973. Ryan Redington, who is Inupiat, becomes the sixth Alaska Native musher to win the world's most famous sled dog race. This is first Iditarod victory, but he won the Junior Iditarod in both 1999 and 2000. The FCS Playoffs resume Saturday in Fargo as North Dakota State will welcome in the University of Montana for a second round matchup. This is third all-time meeting between the schools in Fargo. Montana made its debut here in 2014, the front end of a home and home series. Adam Keller kicked five field goals that day in a 22-10 win. Montana was ready for the Bison in the rematch the following year. In front of a national television audience in Week Zero, the Griz scored the game winning touchdown with two seconds left in a 38-35 win. The two schools met later that year in the second round of the playoffs and the Bison defense dominated, with four interceptions, two of them returned for touchdowns in a 37-6 NDSU win. Montana enters this game with an 8-4 record, having knocked off Southeast Missouri State 34-24 in the first round last weekend. NDSU has never lost in the second round of the playoffs, posting a 10-0 record (not counting the spring season of 2021). WDAY's Dom Izzo and The Forum's Jeff Kolpack preview the matchup and discuss the keys to this game as NDSU looks for another quarterfinal appearance.

Coach Kyle  Gerdeman,Today we are talking to Coach Kyle Gerdeman. Coach Gerdeman is currently the Head Coach at Lindenwood University. And, Coach Kyle enters his fourth year as the leader of the Lindenwood men's basketball program. This season, Lindenwood is transitioning from Division 2 to Division 1. Lindenwood will play in the OVC Conference. Coach Kyle came to Lindenwood after spending seven seasons at Central Michigan. As a matter of fact, Coach Kyle and I had many battles in the MAC conference. Prior to working for Coach Keno Davis at Central Michigan, Gerdeman spent three years as an assistant coach at Southeast Missouri State. And before that, Coach Kyle was the head coach at Moberly Area Community College in Missouri. Coach Kyle also has spent nine seasons serving as an assistant coach at Mineral (Mo.) Area College, at Moberly, and at East Central College (Mo.). As you soon are going to find out, Coach Kyle does not like to waste any time. It is a pretty cool conversation about how Coach Kyle approaches his daily job. In addition, this is a conversation about relationships. It is amazing to hear Coach Kyle talk about the relationships he has with these players as an assistant and head coach. Finally, this is a conversation about RESPECT. The Respect that Coach Kyle has for his father and those who paved the way for him in the profession is truly inspiring, After listening to Coach Kyle Gerdeman, you will for sure be a fan of him and his Lindenwood program!
