From his “Pound Cake” series to collaborations with Mally Raw & Dave East, Kur was always someone easy to champion as a next generation spitter coming out of Philadelphia. His straightforward & honest approach to music making was both authentically him and authentically Philly. However, this next iteration of Kur is something totally different. His eyes are brighter, his delivery is bouncier, he's jumping in and out of flow pockets we've never heard before and the content is equally amazing, but not as heavy. Kur is finally making that transition from being a great rapper to a rap star. Hits from his recent project THURL such as “Peach Snapple”, “123” and “Cheating to Win” initiated this and the overwhelming fan reactions solidified it! Kur joins us today to discuss the success of album, his creative process, his upcoming tour, making history by selling out 3 shows in Philly, working with Meek on “Confidence Level”, and getting hit up by Kevin Durant to celebrate his transition to rap stardom. This is the Thurlcast presented by TRPE. Check this episode out on video at https://youtube.com/@TRPE For more amazing content subscribe to our Patreon FOR FREE at https://patreon.com/officialtrpe

As a 6'7" eighth-grader, Thurl Bailey was cut from his school's basketball team and the coach told him to never come back. The next year, a new coach offered him a spot on the team because of the potential he saw in Thurl. Within eight years, Thurl Bailey had won an NCAA Championship at North Carolina State and was drafted by the NBA's Utah Jazz--in large part because one coach saw in him what others couldn't.
Some may know or remember "Big T" Thurl Bailey as the man who was part of the 1983 National Championship team with North Carolina State, who was coached by Coach Jim Valvano. He was drafted in the first round of the NBA draft and played 12 of his 16 professional seasons in the National Basketball Association between the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves organizations. What most don't know however, is the fact that Thurl's basketball talents didn't necessarily come naturally. He had the passion for the sport and the dedication and willingness to get better, but he truly had to WORK at it to be where he's at. Find out today on the show just how he was able to go from playing 2 seconds a game (the tip offs) in Junior High, to becoming a National Champion in College, to then playing 16 years as a professional (12 of which were in the NBA). It's truly one you want to pay attention to. Major shoutout to my cousin John Elmer, who helped me land this interview with Thurl. John is a sports fan just like me. And when he was at his local gym working out, he went out of his way to communicate with Thurl who happened to be there too, and got him in contact with me! This interview wouldn't have happened without John's support and willingness to reach out for me! So for that I want to say thanks to John! Love ya man!! I would love for all to check out Thurl's book, by going to: https://thurlbailey.com/ I promise you one thing, after listening to this interview, you're going to see exactly why the people of Utah have embraced this man with open arms! He's a man of character, who is well-spoken and respectful to all! I've always had a respect for Thurl, but didn't truly realize how unbelievably impactful he was until I spoke with him! Enjoy the interview! ________________________________ Where to Find Me: Apple Podcasts - https://apple.co/2syRPkw Spotify - http://spoti.fi/2oVVZ36 Stitcher - http://bit.ly/2sR9m90 TuneIn - http://bit.ly/2Fx5UlU
When someone sees our potential it can make all the difference in what we become. But what has that looked like in the life of former NBA player Thurl Bailey? It meant his mother believing that she was not raising average kids, and therefore Cs were not acceptable. It meant not making the middle school basketball team again and again until a coach finally offered to put in some extra work with the 6'10" 9th grader. And it meant overcoming obstacles in marrying his wife when the odds were against them. But perhaps most important, it has looked like Heavenly Father knowing Thurl's potential as a disciple of Jesus Christ. On this week's episode, we talk with Thurl about potential in all its forms and what we can learn from it. “God also has a way of making things really right.” Show Notes 2:33- Taking Full Advantage of Education 6:45- “I Have a Dream” 8:30- Religion as a Child 12:06- Dr. J 22:15- Influence of a Coach Who Cared 25:47- Cultural Implications of Coming to Utah 30:24- Conquering the Odds 38:34- Asking the Right Person 45:17- 25 Years Later 48:43- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Thurl joins Amy to break down Donovan Mitchell's return in a Game 2 victory by the Jazz over the Memphis Grizzlies. Thurl goes on to highlight the incredible talent of Mitchell and Ja Morant at such young ages, including a memory of Thurl's son attempting to guard Ja in college. Thurl brings us back to his 1st playoff experience when he was in his early 20s and how the postseason truly is a brand new season all to it itself. Thurl then shares his thoughts on having excited, enthusiastic fans back in the arena. And lastly, Thurl shares his thoughts on what it means for the Utah Jazz to enter this postseason as the #1 overall seed opposed to as an underdog. Thurl Bailey is a former professional basketball player of the NBA. His athletic career spanned over sixteen years playing for the Utah Jazz and the Minnesota Timberwolves. He would later go on to have an impressive career in the NBA with the Utah Jazz .Thurl accomplished so much in his basketball career, but before he could live his dream on the court, he had to first figure out how to actually get on the court and overcome the challenge of being cut from his middle school basketball team two years in a row.
