Earlier this week, our Industry All-Access (https://brewingindustryguide.com/subscription/) subscribers received in their email inbox this week's subscriber-exclusive article that Kate reported, parsing the latest industry economic data but reading beyond the surface for a deeper look at what's really going on. We've all read the hyperbolic clickbait articles out there about craft beer's demise, and for the first time in almost twenty years, we saw a net decline in operating breweries in the United States last year. But at the same time, we've been hearing anecdotally from a number of brewers such as Neil Fisher of WeldWerks, in episode 400, that they were growing despite the significant headwinds. This cognitive dissonance got us thinking about how data purport to tell certain truths, but that “truth” is limited by the nature of how data are collected. Craft beer in the United States is both big and small, but our primary sources of data address only the biggest channels of the craft-beer business, leading to distortions in perception that could potentially have damaging effects for craft beer as a whole. With that in mind, Kate sought out some answers to the questions we had—does this meta-narrative we've been reading have truth to it, does it accurately describe the reality that craft brewers are facing, do other data that suggest different or more varied truths, and what can we take away to build a fuller picture of the current state of craft beer? For this 400th episode of the podcast, Neil Fisher of Weldwerks (https://weldwerks.com) takes over the host chair and puts Jamie Bogner in the hot seat for a ranging conversation about business, passion, creativity, discipline, openness, and why the current prevailing narrative about the “end of craft beer” in no way describes the reality for many brewers today. It's a departure from the normal technical conversations that define the podcast—instead, for this special episode, it's an open conversation among old friends who offer honest takes. Fluffernutter and Oreo Marshmallow pastry stouts. Kettle sours brewed with "obscene amounts" of fruit. A cream cheese rangoon gose. Depending on your level of curiosity and adventurousness, these beers may sound exciting or challenging, but they also have two things in common: They've been made by Colorado's WeldWerks Brewing and they're fun beers made with serious intent. In this episode, we get into some of the technical ideas, philosophies, and search for dialed-in joy with Skip Schwartz, WeldWerks' head brewer and Neil Fisher, founder and owner of the company. What makes brewing and beer fun these days? There are lots of answers, and as you'll hear both explain, it could be from the never-ending tweaks to make a beer as perfect as possible or finding ways to connect with new drinkers who would otherwise turn away from a beer. Some of the more wild beers created by WeldWerks have gotten attention over the years, but it's their flagship hazy IPA, Juicy Bits, that put this brewery on the map and has allowed WeldWerks to expand into 26 different markets this year. The runaway success of Juicy Bits has helped the business gain notoriety beyond Colorado, build out its brewhouse, and set a goal of modest growth as many companies in craft beer are focused on just staying flat with their production. So, maybe you've tried some of WeldWerks' outlandish beers at their taproom or during a major industry event like the Great American Beer Festival, or maybe you've had their signature IPA and one of its variants. Allow Skip and Neil to give you some background on what it means to connect with drinkers today and learn how their approach to beer is setting them up for 2024 and beyond.

In what is likely our most decadent Barrel-Aged December™ episode yet, we sample four enormous stouts from WeldWerks' Medianoche series that are as complex as they are thick (or thicc, as the kids say). Co-founder Neil Fisher gave us some mic time back during GABF that is shared here, and he helps us understand how his Greeley, Colorado brewery's signature stout series differs from others. Also, Craig gets some much-needed Cronch validation, Ryan's taking a trip down Peanut Butter Memory Lane, and I fear we veer towards Font Arguments Podcast again. Colin Jones and partner Neil Fisher founded WeldWerks Brewing Company in 2014 in a long-vacant property just off Highway 85 in Greeley. Neil had been a talented homebrewer for years, and Colin was the Director of Technology at Flood and Peterson Insurance prior to the founding. Soon, both were full-time and more at Weldwerks, and they buckled up for a high-growth journey from there - growing production and revenues at an average rate of over 100% per year! An early focus on systems and processes built the foundation for that growth, and represents well Colin's special sauce throughout his career. Colin's entrepreneurial journey started early, with a computer sales and service company called PC Pros in Wichita, Kansas while he was still in college. After a 3 year run the market had changed, Dell had arisen as a powerful force in the industry, and Colin exited the business and moved into his professional career as a Systems Administrator for IMA Insurance in Denver, and later to Flood and Peterson in Northern Colorado. As a Director in the firm, Colin was at the table for all technology decisions, but also came to understand the entire client journey, and built a comprehensive understanding of the business model. He applied those skills and learned many more at WeldWerks, has transitioned out of the company and is investigating his next adventure. Do you love beer, business, and people? - then you'll love this episode, and I hope you'll tune in for my conversation with Colin Jones, and share it with your beer-loving friends! In this return to one of our favorite Colorado brewery's beers, we find some of the more offbeat and odd offerings from Weldwerks. Also, Craig catches up with co-founder and head brewer Neil Fisher to chat about how they've decided to grow within Greeley, why their concept of collaborations has evolved, and what makes a Medianoche so dang thick. For the 40th year of GABF - and the first festival in three years - we had to go bigger than ever, so much so that we couldn't fit it into one episode. Even though Ryan stayed behind in Illinois, Craig succeeded in drinking all the beers Denver had to offer and bringing back some stellar interviews from some of his brewery highlights - along with an all-time bucket list guest. Even though we recorded this over two days and thousands of miles away, we manage to drink through some beers that have a GABF connection and give some one-sided reviews. In Part One, Craig talks about his experiences at WeldWerks, Peculier, Cellar West, Hops & Pie, and the Denver Rare Beer Tasting - in addition to his first two sessions at GABF. Part One Beers Reviewed Cellar West Artisan Ales - Spinechiller (Bourbon Barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout) Cellar West Artisan Ales - Cone Country (Golden Wet Hop Pale Ale) Beachwood Brewing - Amalgamator (West Coast IPA) Interviews Zach Kelly of HenHouse Brewing Company (Santa Rosa, CA) - 00:24:15 - 00:31:52 Shyla Sheppard of Bow & Arrow Brewing Co. I think we're really starting to hit our stride. On this week's episode of Stoned Appetit presented by Standing Akimbo Dispensary, we sit down with Mars Conte, Co-Founder of ThriftCon Pop Up & Local Legend in the Streetwear scene. Before we dive into our guest interview we run through the calendar... starting with the Stanley Cup watch parties and tips on navigating Games 4&5 crowd scenes. After such, we get hyped for WeldWerks annual party going down in Greeley this weekend & the other cool shit going on this week. Then we get into the nitty gritty... sitting down with Mars was 100x cooler than we expected. We talked about growing up in CO, his football career, how he found the streetwear scene and how he turned an idea with buddies into a booming nationwide tour. That was just the business side of the convo.. then we had some fun with it, talking favorite foods in town & cities around the country.. sleeper best cities that noone would think of and a splash of strip club trivia. Great episode, EPIC GUEST INTERVIEW & kickass week ahead in the Mile High City. Tune in, subscribe, rate, review... tell your friend to do the same!

Samples and demos at https://therealvoice.com The Best German Beer in the world? OK - I'll bite.. or rather drink. According to a panel of beer experts that list includes several tasty options. I will agree with a statement made by the founder of Wynwood Brewing Co. in Miami. He likes Oktoberfest beer, regardless of the season. So do I. So no surprise Marzen made the list - but then again no surprise Hefeweisen, Helles, and Pilsners did either. Get the rundown and reasons for the inclusion of the specific beers at https://uproxx.com/life/craft-beer-experts-tell-us-their-go-to-german-beers-for-all-seasons/ I love a good #CollaBEERation and there's one coming in from Weldwerks, Our Mutual Friend, and Firestone Walker.
