“If you're a brewer and you're not making things that you really want to make, or things you want to experiment with and learn more about, then what are you brewing for,” asks James Herrholz, Chief Creative Officer for Corporate Ladder Brewing (https://www.corporateladderbrewing.com) in Palmetto, Florida. While some may feel “forced” to brew crowd-pleasing adjunct-laden stouts, Herrholz signed on for the challenge, and approaches the style with zeal and a drive to make the very best. Over the past six years, he's seen incredible results from this dogged and open-minded focus—three GABF medals, including a gold in 2022, while the brewery has maintained its spot on Untappd as the highest-rated brewery in the state of Florida. Founded in 1980, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is arguably one of America’s premier craft breweries.  Renowned for exclusively using whole-cone hops, Sierra Nevada has set the standard for artisan brewers worldwide with beers like Tropedio, Big Foot and their West Coast style Stout. But it’s the modern classic, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale that thrust the brewery into the consciousness of consumers and has since long endured in the hearts of beer drinkers across the globe. I’m convinced that many, if not most, in the brewing industry can trace their journey back at least in part to that first time they discovered that golden amber coloured ale, boasting all 38 of its International Bitterness Units (or IBUs) and Cascade hops: qualities which, now in 2021, seem merely casual next to the extremities of juicy, hazy NEIPAs or pithy, resinous West Coast IPAs. Over 40 years on Sierra Nevada still retains allegiance from both faithful fans or the newbie to craft beer who is discovering Pale Ale for the first time with a sense of reverence and awe...  and rightly so! On Day 1 of the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, President Donald Trump traveled about two hours west to a produce packing facility in Mills River. Masks were encouraged but not required as President Trump spoke to a few hundred at Flavor 1st Growers and Packers. "Ladies and Gentlemen to introduce the President of the United States the co-owner of Flavor First Growers and Packers Kirby Johnson." Johnson's company is part of a USDA program for families impacted by COVID-19. "As a grower myself I can't tell you how much it means for the produce to go to people that need it during this pandemic era," says Johnson. The program is called Farmers to Families Food Box. The program purchased $1.2 billion worth of produce nationally from farmers starting in May. In North Carolina, the goods were packed by companies like Flavor 1st and then shipped by the group Baptists on Missions to about 200 locations statewide. While he was being renominated Monday in Charlotte for a second term in office by the Republican Party, Mills River waited for President Trump. Much of the crowd at President Trump's rally was made up of farmers and local politicians. But not all of them agreed with the president. "I'm here today representing the Town of Mills River." That's Brian Caskey. He's the Mayor Pro Temp of Mills River. Caskey thought he might be the only Democrat at the rally. He doesn't agree with Trump, especially when it comes to immigration. He says that migrant farm workers - many of whom work at Flavor 1 st Growers and Packers where the rally was located - deserve a path to citizenship. We need to establish a path to citizenship for people who are here and are following the laws. There are many more trails in the area that are suitable for bikers of all experience levels, from easiest to most difficult. 5. Paddle the Great Dismal Swamp in South Mills, NC in the northern portion of the state. This is a wetland forest where you can rent a kayak for the day and is perfect for a fall day (leaf peepers!) 6. Chimney Rock State Park - spend the day rock climbing or hiking - great for the entire family and your furry friends! The boys are back...  After wrapping up our interviews from Atlanta we are back to our normal show format.  The guys talk about the Motorcycle Podcasters Challenge, the first Loud Pipes Ride, Road Hogs III ride, Atlanta trip recap, and some news.Motorcycle Podcasters Challenge: We are going to have a little challenge between the Motorcycle Men, Throttled, and Loud Pipes.  The goal of this challenge is to encourage riding on a consistent bases and will award the podcast team that averages the most points over the month of August.  To help with the challenge the team at EatSleepRIDE will provide ride data and we'll be posting our progress on the ESR platform.  You can follow via the challenge web site or EastSleepRIDE.First Loud Pipes Ride:  The guys joined up on June 24th and took a little ride from Blacksburg, SC to Little Switzerland, NA and back to Charlotte, NC.  This was a nice 300 mile trip that included the Diamonback (NC 226a).  Plan was to do the Devil's Whip, but thanks to Apple Maps we ended up riding the Diamondback a second time. Road Hogs III Ride:  Rico was the only member of the Loud Pipes team to make the trip.  He talked about the ride and taming the snake.  We are planning to have another round table with the Road Hogs crew. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the National Wild Turkey Federation are offering free turkey hunting seminars in Henderson County’s Mills River community on April 1st and 2nd in anticipation of the upcoming spring turkey season.

Clawhammer Mountain, in Pisgah National Forest, forms part of the dividing line between the Davidson River Valley to the south and the Mills River Valley to the North. Both of these watersheds host some of the most popular trout fishing spots in western North Carolina, while the Mills River system is a source of drinking water for Hendersonville and Asheville, and home to the endangered Appalachian elktoe, a freshwater mussel.

“This is not the same animal I saw flying around this morning, is it?” asked one teacher, standing knee-deep in the South Toe River, looking at an insect crawling around an ice cube tray. The animal in question was a dragonfly.
