As a young kid, Chris L'Amarca suffered from a body pain that she thought all kids experienced. It was only later in life that she realized that her body pain is a rare one. This consistent pain has caused this queer teacher to leave the classroom and focus her entire life on her health. We are lucky to have this conversation because earlier this year Chris was saying ‘goodbye' to loved ones. Somehow, she is with us today and sharing her story on Tales of the 2SLGBTQ+.This episode is part storytelling but is also full of instruction. There must be the latter when there is a bunch of rare diseases involved. These diseases include Addison's Disease, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Raynaud's, and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. And yes . . . you will likely spend time after WebMDing what you have learned. Chris shares her story with calm and remarkable poise. Or should I say instead, L'Amarcable Poise. All of this plus discussion around being a queer instructor and what it means when intersectionality is at play.Support the show

This episode is all about power couple Randall MacDonald and Darcy Kaser, who have recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. We, of course, touch base on the love story they have written with each other, including their courtship of each other. If you are from Edmonton or Vancouver, you may know Darcy and Randall from the very successful "Call the Kettle Black" franchise they built. For two decades, the store was an institution for everyone who craved the newest and best kitchenware. Darcy took the lead on this, and the blood and sweat led to its success. At an early age, Randall was called to be on the stage, and he has continually pursued it. If his name and picture look familiar to you, then you are one to attend shows on stage (musicals, drama, and opera), on the TV screen, and on the silver screen. This conversation runs the spectrum of learning more about the fabulous duo and how they have made their relationship work, to the opposite end of learning how Randall grew up in a very religious home and the effects of that upbringing. When the podcast episode is titled "Call the Kettle . . . Fabulous", how can you not tune in?!?!______________________________________________________________________In addition, Darcy is at TierOne Travel working with the Queer community.Randall can be found at his social media handle @randall_fabulista and his YouTube @therandallchannelSupport the show

2022 has been a year of big change for Devin Grayson. Recently married, they have begun the process to be their authentic self. Devin is transgender and it is important for them that other individuals who identify as transgender will have access to resources that leads to success in the workforce. This desire has brought forth, even more, change as Devin recently left his career in the financial world to create 'Trans Rally'. Martin Boyce is a Stonewall Riot (Uprising) activist, sharing the story of one of the most pivotal queer/trans action in history. Martin was 19 years old at Stonewall and was part of the uprising. The Stonewall Riots (also known as the Stonewall Uprising or the Stonewall Rebellion) were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the gay community in response to a police raid that began in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood of New York City. Patrons of the Stonewall, other Village 2SLGBTQIA+ bars, and neighbourhood street people fought back when the police became violent. The riots are widely considered a watershed event that transformed the gay liberation movement and the twentieth-century fight for LGBT rights in Canada and the United States.Though the uprising didn't start the gay rights movement, it was a night that inspired many to take up political activism and led to the creation of many gay rights organizations – including the Gay Liberation Front, Human Rights Campaign, and GLAAD.Support the show

Monique Wilson and Scott Bryen join the "Tales of the 2SLGBTQ+" podcast to reflect on their life in the Leather & Kink community.During this conversation, I jokingly mentioned that briefly, you would say Monique looks like an elementary school teacher and Scott would work on an engine of a car. This of course is nothing close to reality for either of them. But it does go to show that there is no distinguished day-to-day markers as to who is in the Leather & Kink scene.Monique and Scott share why they joined the Leather community and what they have gained as part of this family. Wise words are also expressed when the discussion of consent. Northern Chaps gets a mention as well as Monique discussing the space, she has created for herself as part of a world that is usually categorized by the images of older gay men ala Tom of Finland. Liz Massiah is a true trailblazer in our LGBTQ+ community. Coming to Alberta from Ontario in the early 1980s, Liz created permanent positive change for our Rainbow community. This interview is Part 1 of a series of episodes that will be conducted with Liz over the next number of weeks and months. Her storytelling tells the emotions of people and those 'small moments in time' are all so important. Part 1 begins with her background, her family, and her awakening as a Lesbian powerhouse. GALA (Gay and Lesbian Awareness), the 1st Pride Parade, the creation of what has become HIV Edmonton, Womonspace, and END (Edmonton Networking Discreetly) are but a few topics discussed in the conversation. Liz's fingerprints are involved in all of this. If you know of an organization from the 1980s being formed, it is likely Liz was one of the founding members. This conversation struck close to me on a personal note as my late Uncle Marvin Joslin was mentioned. Matt Phillips joins 'Tales of the LGBTQ+' to discuss chicken, bisexuality, mental illness, raising funds for charity and so much more.Since starting the acclaimed restaurant 'Northern Chicken' 5 years ago, Matt and his business have raised over $100,000 for charities with the bulk of it towards 2SLGBTQIA+ community supports. Considering the pain of the last two years in the restaurant/hospitality sector, that is an amazing number.Matt shares his story as a proud bisexual man navigating the restaurant industry during the pandemic and himself as part of the Rainbow community. The conversation also includes mental health which is a topic Matt and I are very open about discussing. On Friday, November 19th, 2021, head down to Northern Chicken as they celebrate the launch of the '2022 Balls, Boobs & Beer Calendar' with 100% of the calendar sales going to Each + Every (Businesses for Harm Reduction). A protest movement which includes the host Douglas.'Pride Corner on Whyte' envisions an Edmonton where every member of the LGBTQ family (plus local businesses) can safely be on Whyte Avenue without fear and without subjection to homophobic street preachers. For over 10 years, street preachers have stood on their milk crate with their microphone and 'preached' their messages. It is homophobia disguised as bible quotes. It is long past time to reclaim the space on the corner of 104th street and Whyte and have it be known as 'Pride Corner'. A growing group of counter protestors have made it their calling to stand on 104th and Whyte to fight the good fight. This group has been created to gain information and to know how you can help create 'Pride Corner on Whyte'.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TalesLGBTQ+)

Kayle Mackintosh was introduced to me through 'Pride corner on Whyte'. How can one not witness a force of nature in action? Or, in this case, a cool mist in the wind. Kayle hasnt had it easy having grown up without a stable home. Moving to many different towns and villages in Northern Alberta in their youth without a stable roof over their head caused issues. Kayle discusses their background today on 'Tales of the LGBTQ+'. But Kayle is using her past to forge a new path in her adulthood. This path gives back and allows them to create significant safe space for those who are unhoused in Edmonton. Support is provided by them in so many ways and it is very interesting how this is done without also surrendering pieces of yourself. Boundaries need to be set and met at all times. Cool, calm and collected are words I would use to describe them. Plus, a huge thank you for supporting me when I needed to deescalate a situation on 'Pride Corner'. Having lost himself in the corporate world, Brad Shreve discovered the big office and prestigious title were great for the ego but were not great for living a life he found fulfilling. As a grownup he pondered what he wanted to do when he became a bigger grownup, and the answer was obvious. His fingertips have been on the keyboard ever since. Brad was thrilled when he discovered LGBTQ mysteries are a thing, and the list of authors who inspired him to write in the subgenre are too numerous to mention. In 2019, he published A Body in a Bathhouse, his first novel in the Mitch O'Reilly mystery series. He is also the host of Queer Writers of Crime, a weekly podcast featuring interviews with LGBTQ authors of mystery, suspense, and thriller fiction. The viewpoint and journey of a Mother. Vicki Finlay has two children who have come out and become part of our Rainbow community. She shares with us her thoughts of where she was when she first learned about this and where she is at now when it comes to her actions. The journey has not been easy at times. It was 'easier' when her daughter came out as gay as it always seemed there was something 'missing' when it came to knowing all about her daughter. It was more difficult when her son came our as Transgender. Self blame turned to self pity.In this conversation, we look at all facets of a Mother's Journey and viewers will see themselves in Vicki and (hopefully) take away nuggets of knowledge that will help you as you move forward.Pride NOT Prejudice.Vicki lives in Red Deer, Alberta and her business (Junktiques) has become a safe face for LGBTQ+ youth to for help or be open to who they are.Central Alberta Pride - https://www.centralalbertapride.ca/Transgender and non-Binary Aid Society - https://www.tanas.org/Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TalesLGBTQ+)

The truth will take time to be told and it is on us to be available to listen and to be open to what needs to be heard. In case you believe the conversation will be too heavy, there were 'technical difficulties' when Douglas' cat decided that a camera was not needed for the interview.
