To 10x your business, you must 10x your courage. If there is one thread that keeps entrepreneurs stuck at the level where they are at, it's staying safe and playing mental gymnastics to avoid acts of courage. Here are the 6 stages of discomfort. Where are YOU at right now? Stage 1. You have been working ‘behind the scenes' on content. Spending hours on blog posts, emails, even books, or outline and content for your program. It makes you feel good. You feel productive. But, deep down you KNOW that none of this is going to serve people or scale your business. And the minute you are finished and it's time to go talk to people or get on camera… the strategy changes and you go back to… content creation. Stage 2: You have purchased a course of a program that teaches you how to build funnels using ads or social media posting or whatever form that AVOIDS you talking about your program to people YOU KNOW. You get very excited about automation. At first it sounds so great - passive income, creating courses, or selling through funnels. But for whatever reason it never actually converts or makes you money. Stage 3: Or, you got to the point where you said ‘okay, funnels didn't work, I'm going to do speaking. I am going to go on other people's platforms'. So you buckle up, schedule some speaking engagements, maybe one a month or one every two months, , 10 or 20 people show up, t doesn't yield the results, so you give up and go back to #2. Stage 4: At some point you have the breakthrough in sales and marketing because you have been at it long enough. You realize there is no way around human connection, visibility, doing sales, and being on camera. So you go live, a lot. You do facebook 5 day challenges, workshops on zoom, or whatever the latest trend. You are closing sales, but when it's time to hire your first full sales rep or a coach, you just can't seem to make that step. It's too uncomfortable. Stage 5: You have now gotten over your fear of hiring. You got someone to join your company and do sales and marketing or operations. They are a huge help, but far from profitable. You know you want them closing sales and driving the growth of the company, and you keep bringing it up, but you are scared if you push them too hard, they will quit, and you will be alone again. So you still aren't scaling as much as you would like to. Stage 6: You pushed through, figured out how to teach and train your team and hold them accountable, which resulted in a crazy growth in your company. The tower seems to growing tall, but the base is a little shaky. You realize you don't have a great billing system in place, have no business insurance, and you aren't 100% sure if you are following the employment law. You have mickey-moused this business together. But the idea of hiring a CFO, a decent CPA, or a high level business coach that can really push you to the next level is paralyzing. You JUST made this money and the last thing you want to do is spend it.

Big Data, Big Healthcare and You Just recently a new report was released on the role of big data in healthcare. The report made projections for the next year on how data would be used to improve the efficiency of health care. Sounds great, right? Well, slow down. A closer look shows that this report, if it accurately reflects the way things will actually go over the next few years is nothing to celebrate.  First, they are projecting out to six years. What on earth actually makes them think that they can make solid projections about what healthcare will be like in six years? How anyone can make those kinds of claims in a post-COVID world boggles the mind. Second, the projections are only about squeezing every last drop out of current processes and models. There is little talking about where things might be headed. Much of what the report talks about isn’t even all that innovative. When they are breathlessly talking up telemedicine as an important new development, you know something is wrong. To read this report you would never know that people have already been using video chat with ease for years.  Third, and most importantly, the report does nothing to talk about different ways to actually improve patient care. It’s all about trying to maximize the bottom line.  There are a lot of problems with that last point. No, not that they have to make money. We get the necessity for that. However, it becomes a problem when making money becomes the primary focus, when making a profit isn’t enough. When profit becomes the main focus, it has do more than be steady, it has to exponentially increase. What’s really strange about that is it certainly doesn’t help people improve their lives and it’s possible that it winds up costing people money in the long run. How could that be? Modern medicine follows a reactive model. That is, it waits for you to get sick or injured and then charges you a ton of money to put you back together. This model definitely brings in a ton of cash, but what if healthcare returned to a preventative model? One based on check-ups and solid advice meant to keep you from getting sick in the first place? Now, in this model, you would go, get a physical, a stress test, and a bit of blood work done. You’d see if you have any leading indicators of problems like diabetes or cancer, or even simple vitamin deficiencies that could lead to problems down the road if not addressed. The doctor would give you a prescription for some heavy duty vitamins (yes, it turns out that prescription grade vitamins are a thing) and some diet and exercise recommendations and if you followed them, your health would improve. Obviously, this model means that hospitals are losing out on some of the massive waves of money that come from treating significant illnesses. But would they really be out anything in the long run? After all, if you are trying to avoid getting sick, you might actually see your doctor more for regular checkups instead of waiting for an emergency. That, plus a few scans and the handful of necessary prescriptions (especially as you get older) could wind up creating a more steady revenue for the hospital, especially since with improvements in medical care people would actually be living longer as well, meaning another ten or twenty years of doctor visits instead of dying at an unnecessarily early age from a disease that could have been prevented.  TARTLE is eager to help with this. Ep 34: GlowbodyPT's Guide to a Fit Pregnancy and Post-Pregnancy

I LOVE working out, and I especially loved it during my most recent pregnancy.  Something about focusing on my health while growing my new babe was incredibly empowering.  What about you?  Did you feel energized and ready to work out during pregnancy?     Now that I'm postpartum, I'm biding my time until I can return to working out.  The first few weeks post-pregnancy are a sacred time of rest, so I know I must take this just as seriously as any other period of time.   But what happens when I get the green light?  Do I just jump back in... full steam ahead?   Nope, I'm going to be incredibly careful to make sure that each exercise I do is actually safe for my new postpartum body, and that it's helping build me up- not causing more distress.   Enter: Glowbody PT.  This episode features a mama and former World Champion athlete, Ashley Keller.  She has created both pregnancy and post-pregnancy workout plans, and she knows the ins-and outs of both intensity and safety when it comes to the fresh new mom-bod.   Show Notes: Ashley is an army spouse and mother of 3 young children.  Before babies, she was a professional tri-athlete for Team USA, and won a World Championship for Half Iron Man.  She then served in the Army and became a mom.  She realized she needed short, efficient workouts for herself, so she decided to share what she was doing for her prenatal workouts on YouTube-  GlowBody PT was born.  Ashley has not created your average run-of-the-mill pregnancy routines.  No, no, my friends.  These workouts are a beautiful marriage of both intensity and safety for pregnancy and post-pregnancy. Ashley discusses the breakdown of her pregnancy workout plan, which is divided into trimesters.     First Trimester During the first trimester, Ashley discusses the importance of maintaining consistency with whatever types of workouts you were doing before.  If you weren't working out much, now is not the time to begin something rigorous.  However if you were working out, continue in the same way.  The caveat: bring your maximum workout level from a 10 to a 6 or a 7. She mentions that there are several things mothers should avoid during the first trimester: overheating and breathlessness (due to change in hormones).   The first trimester is a great time to try to get the abs and back very strong, as their strength and stability through pregnancy is key.   Second Trimester The second trimester is a great time to begin lifting weights, even if you were not lifting weights before pregnancy. Ashley gives great explanation as to how helpful squats are for avoiding the "soggy bag" pelvic floor.   Third Trimester: It's incredibly important to remember that the body is creating a hormone called relaxin, which increases greatly during the third trimester.  This makes the joints and body as a whole hyper-mobile, so it is very important to be careful while working out, especially with yoga.  Ashley recommends doing prenatal yoga only once or twice per week.   Her pregnancy plan ends at 32 weeks... why?  Not because you cannot continue to work out past this time, but because she wants each individual mom to listen to their bodies rather than feeling like they must do a specific workout.  She recommends doing workouts from the second and third trimester if you feel good continuing to work out.  She reminds mothers to listen to their bodies, as it will tell you when to stop!   Ashley has had 3 vaginal births in the hospital on base with midwifery care.  She appreciates the intimacy of the midwifery practice, and the way that the hospital allows her to labor how she wants.  She has found that giving birth on all 4’s, either on the bed or on the floor, is best for opening her pelvis and allowing baby to engage.  She says her most recent baby practically “fell out” as she leaned against the bed.  Nurses had to rush over to catch the baby. basically spent my nose in journals all day long and starts trying figure stuff out but then I came across this really cool article about the science of food and it just falls perfectly into this Hashimoto's food pharmacology and were to have Chef Patrick on here so no food is fascinating why do we like it does so many things you've got texture you've got smell you taste the consistency of it there is a whole science cold food pairing Scientology porcine science science and science technology and technology articles food pairing technology Where you look at this and you can actually manipulate which we like for instance one of the examples were the more simple examples would be like when you eat really fatty meal ribeye right will the lubrication that happens on your tongue if you do too much of it you can balance that out with an astringent thing that actually binds to proteins and gets rid of that slimy field okay so it's the balance you don't want too much of anything guess what is very stringent read one that's how come red wine pairs so well with a good adding ribeye has and an actor just get that to go away so I started going down this route a whole family's articles and I'm sure that this is second nature to the chefs out there and the other golf course that is but this work is really fun as it turns out only 20% of your taste is actually happening on your tongue okay 80% is the aroma and it's the aroma the terms on everything else so the we perceive the aromas because they interact with our olfactory nerves so as it turns out these different aromas do different things and you can augment them we talked about the entourage effect last week you can actually have an entourage effect when it comes to food by pairing certain foods that have chemically similar aroma molecules okay so in and before you do for my taking a sip of this be similar you said that you would use an astringent to basically cleanse your mouth it's really probably no different than using I'm guessing Ginger whenever you're about to eat sushi so the ginger works like that exactly so as it turns out like for instance did you know that like white chocolate and caviar go very well together did not it's wild because when you put it through when you take these foods and what the scientists are doing is they're taking the foods and they're putting it into a gas chromatograph okay and what that is is that is something that actually shows the molecular weight you can go out here despite your spike these two foods share similar spikes as it turns out white chocolate and caviar share similar spikes in that molecule is trimethyl Ammon Miriam smells like fish sure does in fact there's a disease on the side note: try methyl or I'm sorry it's try meth grandfather's letter to cattle every winter and then we split the meat up but amongst the family charities usually did two more later but early in the winter the first big heavy snowfall made at and C while yes and dad back then there was no really no treatment by the time they figured out why you had back pain is been much over and anyway so but i spent a lot of time when my mother cooking after that – i just i just picked up i really love food i did i i was fortunate enough to move to germany my senior year in high school and the family that that that i lived with that hosted me was very generous in that we had to get other countries in and dine on some fantastic food and food as a way of life for them and in germany is where i learned about minimalism in the covered you know because they have dorm style refrigerators don't have baked refrigerators are slightly larger than little boxes you have in your dormitory in the shop every day every single day at least once a day to shop as it was for your bracket was delivered in the morning fresh while that's pretty interesting. it was awesome so i just a side note growing up and watching my grandmother cook my dad's mom she was she was fantastic i loved her fried chicken as she fried a lot of stuff but for some reason back then she still remained skinny but she and i don't know if your mom or your dad was like this my grandmother could flavor anything to taste terrific fried chicken chicken fried steak vegetables etc. but one of her trademarks was to always cook with a cigarette hanging out of her lip that was flavored building with burn ashes in there as well as i think that she saved all the different kinds of meats that she brought in the oil and in different folders cans fish oil and that chicken grease etc. is it something that you also did not say new york yeah you don't weld eventually i think had a different flavor and if it will will start thereby produce because we have burn pile of year trees that would fall with a lot of property and we burn on the actual garden so what would and might my father would rotate back and forth into plots so each season the previous year's burn pile become the new garden in city dias content right the potash well – content was really high so a lot of minerals and i mean it's it's amazing how healthy the vegetables are when you do that you people used to take the ashes from the fireplace and put them into the burn pile into their compost deep sure we don't anymore but that is not right there was just fantastic for the flavor and the freshness of vegetables but my money as she skewed everything okay you accept what you call it swiss steak was boiled whatever lien beef steak she could buy it was the cheapest cut with a bone in it and smothered in them tomatoes and garlic and then she broil that the oven it was actually pretty good – he sounds delicious compared to what were some of the first part of the show what i'm thinking is that you know smoking has a lot of it is a carcinogen known as benzene but we should do is see the chemical structure similar to benzene to add that good childhood flavor that you're missing the smoke when without getting the cancer yeah yeah probably so he can get you can put winston cigarettes into the mass spectra shouldn't even pops out to charge me figure out figure out what fruit or vegetable has a similar molecular component near benzene time answer i'm interested that i'm really curious about that this is a fascinating science for me and i'm thinking i could just as i could change my If you can understand the words I just said then you know what the expression means. We use this expression to talk about something - it can be a situation, or an object, or a car, a house, whatever - or someone, who appears at first to be helpful or well-meaning but turns out to be the opposite. So, let's say you just moved into a new neighbourhood, ok. The reason you just moved is, you've been saving money for years and you decided to invest in your own flat. So, you bought this property and you're really happy because now you're a homeowner. Your next-door neighbour comes around very quickly and introduces himself, and gives you lots of helpful tips on the neighbourhood. "So nice!", you think, right. You invite him in for some coffee, a chat, etc. It's always great to be friendly with neighbours. The next morning, the doorbell rings and it's a police officer. Yeah, a police officer came by for an official inspection. You JUST moved in, you thought everything was in order, and you have no idea why the police would show up at your door all of a sudden wanting to do an inspection! Weird. Well, it's not like you can turn him down so you let him in. He then explains to you that someone called the Police anonymously about you! What? You just moved in, but it doesn't matter. Someone called the police and said you were in possession of illegal substances. As in, drugs. You're freaked out when you hear that but there isn't much to do other than let the policeman have a look around. What if the previous residents left drugs stashed away in the flat and the officer finds them and thinks they belong to you? Damn, you're weak in the knees now thinking about the possibility when the police officer comes back and tells you he's finished looking and didn't see anything, and he leaves. And then you realise that only a couple of people have your new address, and these are people you really trust. You have known them all your life. Who else could have given your address to the police? Your real state agent? No, they'll be profiting from you for a few months - they would not want to get you in any kind of trouble! You can only think of one person: you neighbour! Could he be a devil in disguise? Could he be a person that comes across as really nice and helpful, but in time reveals himself to be a wolf in sheep's clothing? I'm going to leave the ending to this little story up in the air 'cause this is beginning to sound like the plot of a mystery novel or something. I think many of you will have had this experience - having your first impression of something or someone change drastically when you realise that person or situation is actually causing you some kind of harm. So, that's when people will say "This thing is a devil in disguise" or "That teacher was a wolf in sheep's clothing", for example. These are not nice expressions, of course. I mean, it's totally OK to say them in any situation but we only use them when talking about something unpleasant. So, can you think of any unfortunate experiences you've had that you can describe using one of these expressions? Let me know, and talk to you soon. We use this expression to talk about something - it can be a situation, or an object, or a car, a house, whatever - or someone, who appears at first to be helpful or well-meaning but turns out to be the opposite. So, let's say you just moved into a new neighbourhood, ok. The reason you just moved is, you've been saving money for years and you decided to invest in your own flat. So, you bought this property and you're really happy because now you're a homeowner. Your next-door neighbour comes around very quickly and introduces himself, and gives you lots of helpful tips on the neighbourhood. "So nice!", you think, right. You invite him in for some coffee, a chat, etc. It's always great to be friendly with neighbours. The next morning, the doorbell rings and it's a police officer. Yeah, a police officer came by for an official inspection. You JUST moved in, you thought everything was in order, and you have no idea why the police would show up at your door all of a sudden wanting to do an inspection! Weird. Well, it's not like you can turn him down so you let him in. He then explains to you that someone called the Police anonymously about you! What? You just moved in, but it doesn't matter. Someone called the police and said you were in possession of illegal substances. As in, drugs. You're freaked out when you hear that but there isn't much to do other than let the policeman have a look around. What if the previous residents left drugs stashed away in the flat and the officer finds them and thinks they belong to you? Damn, you're weak in the knees now thinking about the possibility when the police officer comes back and tells you he's finished looking and didn't see anything, and he leaves. And then you realise that only a couple of people have your new address, and these are people you really trust. You have known them all your life. Who else could have given your address to the police? Your real state agent? No, they'll be profiting from you for a few months - they would not want to get you in any kind of trouble! You can only think of one person: you neighbour! Could he be a devil in disguise? Could he be a person that comes across as really nice and helpful, but in time reveals himself to be a wolf in sheep's clothing? I'm going to leave the ending to this little story up in the air 'cause this is beginning to sound like the plot of a mystery novel or something. I think many of you will have had this experience - having your first impression of something or someone change drastically when you realise that person or situation is actually causing you some kind of harm. So, that's when people will say "This thing is a devil in disguise" or "That teacher was a wolf in sheep's clothing", for example. These are not nice expressions, of course. I mean, it's totally OK to say them in any situation but we only use them when talking about something unpleasant. Last time we talked about having a playground. A place to relax and try new things. A place where you can experiment and be a little messy until you figure out how you want to use that space. Consistent at Your Core At the same time, be consistent at your core. Not that you look exactly the same everywhere you go. I mean, that’s not even realistic. Think about it in practical terms: Sometimes you’ll be speaking at a conference and dressed in a professional outfit while other times you’ll be doing a live video feed while walking your dog. It’s appropriate and expected to literally look different and to exude a different tone in one space versus another. But somehow I should have no question I’m listening to the same person. Everywhere I encounter you—online, at a conference, or in line at Starbucks—I should sense that you are essentially the same. Whether you’re dressed in your best suit for a photo shoot or sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows with friends, be the same core you. Consistent with Content Maintain consistency in content, too, to avoid blindsiding readers. That doesn’t mean you write the exact same subject using different examples over and over. That would get boring. And tedious. Instead, write under the broader themes you’re known to explore. If you’re a lifestyle blogger, you might have a few subtopics you write about: travel, photography, food. And let’s say you write about those things with a frugality focus: money-saving travel tips, how to get the most out of your DSLR, meal planning on a budget. Readers love your articles. You’re saving them money and you’re a little bit sassy when introducing a product or destination. They follow you for updates. If you suddenly start writing about politics in a cynical tone, your audience will wonder what’s going on. You don’t sound like you and you’re not delivering them subject matter they’ve expected from you. Now, you’re free to write whatever you want, and you may choose to leverage your platform for a higher purpose. Why Do Readers Come to You? Just keep your audience in mind...your readers. Why do they come to you? If you’re the frugal travel blogger and suddenly you start spotlighting luxury hotels that cost $600 a night, and you toss French phrases around as if you’re wearing a beret and drinking champagne, readers who have appreciated your tips for backpacking across Europe and choosing the best hostel will feel like your content isn’t for them any longer. But let’s say you won a luxury trip where your hotels would have cost $600 a night. Your readers might enjoy seeing frugal you marveling at resort living. You could position the luxury outing as Budget Traveler Stumbles into Wonderland. Writing Coach or Arborist? If someone comes to my website or listens to my podcast week after week expecting something related to writing encouragement, instruction, or inspiration, they’d feel confused if I suddenly offer a clinic on tree trimming. I might be an amateur arborist perfectly capable of leading a clinic on tree trimming, but my readers would be scratching their heads. “That’s weird. I come to Ann for writing input, not tree trimming advice.” If, however, a big part of my brand is sharing stories from my personal life, perhaps my readers already knew I’m an amateur arborist, so if a comment showed up on social media about my recent neighborhood tree trimming seminar, it wouldn’t be a total shock. (I’m not an amateur arborist, for the record, so don’t ask me for tips. But I do make excellent steel cut oats, and if you ever want to know my secret, the instructions do still live on this website.) No Big Surprises Readers who encounter your words on a page or your images on Instagram or your remarks in a tweet or your interview on a podcast should not be shocked by a huge surprise that is incongruent with who you are and what you stand for. Your message should be relatively consistent.

I talk about my problems with alcohol, why I gave up and how it changed my life. I show that for anyone who is struggling that there is hope and you can change. Alcohol almost ruined me and my future, giving it up was the best thing I ever done and I now have a happy healthy future to look toward - I really hope this podcast can help some people in a similar situation.
