Whether you're focused on career, dating, getting married, having kids, or honestly just trying to figure out your life right now — this show gives you expert guidance and practical next steps to create a life you genuinely love, not one someone else thinks you should live. I'm Stephanie May Wilson — 9x author, TEDx speaker, and your host here at girls night and in each episode, we tackle the questions that keep so many of us up at 2 AM — like what to say when people ask invasive questions about your life choices, how to stop comparing your timeline to everyone else's, and most importantly, how to figure out what you actually want and what your next right step is to get there. As we're trying to figure out our lives, you might find yourself running into some obstacles and wondering, “Is this normal?” Does everybody struggle with this or am I the only one?” Or maybe like me, you've had several friends receive ADHD diagnoses recently, and you're wondering,”What about me? Am I neurotypical? Or are there some things that are different and unique about my brain too?” Friend, in this episode you're going to hear from Greer Jones. Greer is the host of The Unfinished Idea podcast and a passionate advocate for neurodivergent families, helping others build lives that actually work for their unique brains. I learned SO much from this conversation. I can't wait for you to hear it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

“Body work, brain work, and world work - all longevity habits fit into those three categories.” -Allison Davis When author and naturopath Allison Davis turned 60, she didn't accept it as the “gateway to old age”—she saw it as a turning point. Our hosts, Stephanie McCullough and Kevin Gaines, talk with Allison about her transformative journey and her new book, Sixty Is a Good Start: A Powerful Body, A Purposeful Life, and a Plan to Make It Happen. Allison recounts a yearlong period of reflection that led to saying “yes” to new challenges, most notably, the intense 75 Hard program. But her real insight lies in making change sustainable through what she calls the “self-perpetuating circle of purpose”: small, habit-based practices in three categories—Body Work, Brain Work, and World Work. Drawing on research from Blue Zones and longevity science, she outlines a holistic strategy grounded in baby steps, accountability, and environment. Whether it's putting fruit at eye level in the fridge or walking with a group of friends every (or nearly every) morning, Allison makes the case that aging well isn't about an overhaul, but intention. Allison's ultimate goal is to help us reimagine our next chapter—not as a slow fade, but as a season of vitality, purpose, and community. Key Topics: Allison's Turning Point at age 60 (03:12) The Power of Saying Yes and the Misogi Method (05:42) Completing 75 Hard and the Role of Community (07:37) Introducing the Body/Brain/World Framework (15:34) Blue Zones, Longevity, and Daily Habits (17:21) How Environment Shapes Behavior (20:07) The Power of Baby Steps and Planning (21:36) Optimism, Accountability, and Positive Aging (29:48) Key Takeaways (35:25) Resources: Sixty Is a Good Start: A Powerful Body, A Purposeful Life, and a Plan to Make It Happen (book) Allison McCune Davis Website + Link to the 60-Day Dare If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to subscribe on your favorite platform and leave us a review. Dr. Cam is back, sharing how to get the most out of your grey and white matter, and offering his top strategies and protocols for keeping those neurons wiring and firing at their best. The brain is one of the most neglected parts of most people's fitness and health plans but just like your biceps, glutes, or heart, it needs to be trained to function anywhere near optimally. In my opinion, most people experience cognitive decline faster than they need to - not because of age, but because they do bugger-all to keep their brain in shape. Controlling a computer with just your thoughts seems to be something straight out of a science fiction movie, but that's exactly what scientific experiments are now doing. This week Elon Musk, founder of the startup Neuralink which implanted a brain chip, called Telepathy, into a human being last month, said that the patient's progress has been good, and the patient is now able to move a mouse on a screen by just thinking. Exciting? Yes. A little scary too? Perhaps. The tech, at least for now, is aimed at treating paralysis and complex neurological conditions. Putting electrodes into the brain is not new – scientists have been experimenting with this for years now, but refining and potentially commercialising this tech takes a lot of doing. The brain is a complex organ that works by sending electrical impulses from one neuron to another every time we think, and we have 86 billion neurons. The brain-computer interface technology attempts to capture some of this activity through a chip that acts as a bridge between the brain and a digital device. So what does brain-computer interface technology involve, and how does it work? How many of our brain signals can be read? What is its potential in medical applications to treat health conditions? And importantly, what are the ethical issues involved here?

What an absolute blast talking with two of the most amazing human beings I have met during the Building Men Podcast Journey. I talk with Akshay Nanavati and Kevin Demmons about intentional discomfort, fear, overcoming adversity, how the brain works...and shrikage. Akshay Nanavati (Building Men Podcast Episode 116) has overcome drug addiction, PTSD from fighting the war in Iraq with the Marines (where one of his jobs was to walk in front of vehicles to find bombs), depression and alcoholism that pushed him to the brink of suicide. Since then he has built a global business, run ultramarathons like a 24 hour run and a 50 miler around a cul-de-sac, become 1 of only 26 people to ski up the Axel Heiberg Glacier in Antarctica where he got frostbite on 3 fingers, conducted humanitarian work in post-conflict zones, spent 7 days in darkness, silence and isolation, and explored the most hostile environments on the planet, from mountains to caves to polar icecaps.Combining his life experience with years of research in science and spirituality, he wrote the book “Fearvana: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear Into Health, Wealth and Happiness." About the book, the Dalai Lama said “Fearvana inspires us to look beyond our own agonizing experiences and find the positive side of our lives.” All the profits from the book are going toward charity. The creator of the movement "Scarred and Unbeaten", Kevin Demmons (Building Men Podcast Episode 131) shares stories of his past, dealing with horrific abusive situations during his childhood, his experience in the military and how finding strength in his pain has transformed his life. We start the process of creating an organization called: The Shrinkage Awareness Foundation. Kevin started Scarred and Unbeaten because there is not enough discussion about post traumatic GROWTH! According to Kevin, scars both physical and mental, are constant reminders of just how strong and resilient we truly are. In today's 5-Minute Drill, J.R. unpacks Mikie Mahtook's comment that his “false sense of reality became his reality.” Specifically, J.R. digs deeper on how to make your brain work FOR you in times of stress instead of AGAINST you. LET'S GET IT! [00:01 - 10:49] The Science Behind False Evidence Appearing Real (F.E.A.R.) How our brain accepts a distorted mental representation of what's actually happening How stress disables our ability to think through things logically The importance of focusing on what's true in the moment When faced with doubts, ask yourself: How do you know this is true? [10:50 - 14:23] What's the Drill? Step 1: Recall a time where you felt fear and ask yourself “How do you know this is true?” Can you clearly see what WAS true in that situation? DO THIS as often as you can - by reflecting back and seeing where your take on reality was FALSE, you increase the likelihood that your reflective function will remain ONLINE when stressed in the future, thus making you better at differentiating between what's in your head and what's real. Step 2: Identify today's fears. Then ask… How do you know they're true? What IS true? DOs/DON'Ts of this strategy [14:24 - 15:33] Wrapping Up! What's coming up on the next episode Final words Key Quotes “What we project prospers.” - J.R. “Stress doesn't go away. You just get better at managing it.” - J.R. Connect with J.R.
