We all do things a little bit differently, but there is still only so much you can tell before the door closes. Well, when I broke my neck and lost proper function, I had to open the door and invite my wife Kelsey in. We learned much more about each other when she became my caretaker. We learned that we had different ass wiping styles. This caused me to question every daily care habit. Have you ever thought about the ways you do the things you do?

Though I initially arrived at college intent on a career in diplomacy for the State Department, I found myself consistently drawn away by my love of teaching and experiential education. In spring of my junior year, I completed a semester in the Rockies with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and learned valuable communication techniques that I use with students to this day. After graduating from college, I worked as an instructor and coordinator with outdoor education nonprofit organizations in addition to coaching students across the gamut of standardized tests. Working with students highlighted the importance of both deep understanding of and technical proficiency with mathematical concepts, so I pursued and received a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Southern California and a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics. Since then, I have continued to tutor students one-on-one while also developing my skills as a classroom teacher." - Sarah J

Cockcroft and Walton came together while at the Cavendish laboratory under Ernest Rutherford. In 1928, George Gamow showed that particles could tunnel through potential barriers by applying the newly available quantum mechanics. Cockcroft understood the implications of Gamow's tunnelling theory - that a much lesser energy than earlier thought might be sufficient for a proton to penetrate the nucleus. By 1929, they had built the Cockcroft-Walton generator, which with a system of capacitors and thermionic rectifiers could reach voltages up to 600,000 volts. It took them three more years but on April 14, 1932, the research duo bombarded a layer of lithium with hydrogen in a discharge tube that had been accelerated using their generator. The result? The lithium broke into two helium nuclei and shot off in opposite directions - an atom had been split and nuclear transmutation of one element (lithium) to another (helium) had been achieved for the first time under human control. Particles can create massive amounts of energy, and maybe you can too.

Its red eyes glowed with hate, and from its terrible jaws flowed an incessant stream of evil-smelling yellowish-green slime. It demanded from humankind a blood-curdling tribute: to satisfy its enormous appetite, ten thousand men and women had to be delivered every evening at the onset of dark to the foot of the mountain where the dragon-tyrant lived. Sometimes the dragon would devour these unfortunate souls upon arrival; sometimes again it would lock them up in the mountain where they would wither away for months or years before eventually being consumed. Can we zoom out and get to a place of Love? Zara Yacob, and many great thinkers throughout the centuries believe it is the only way to salvation. Yacob was the first to posit that thinking and rationality actually start with the heart. What stops us the from having love and compassion as a starting place? Perhaps it's the trauma defense mechanisms we build to protect ourselves. “We live together, we act on, and react to, one another; but always and in all circumstances we are by ourselves. The martyrs go hand in hand into the arena; they are crucified alone. Embraced, the lovers desperately try to fuse their insulated ecstasies into a single self-transcendence; in vain. By its very nature every embodied spirit is doomed to suffer and enjoy in solitude. Sensations, feelings, insights, fancies—all these are private and, except through symbols and at second hand, incommunicable. We can pool information about experiences, but never the experiences themselves. From family to nation, every human group is a society of island universes.” ― Aldous Huxley, The Doors of Perception Ain't I a Woman? He is a lifelong learner who listens to the fullness of people to help guide his relationships and interactions. He sees people as people. He likes his relationships true not transactional. And you may catch him in some black jeans at work on the right day because that's him. He has man identities - he is a Black, Christian, gay man; a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, a Trustee, and a board chair. And a great human. He has a keen interest in critically engaging campus constituents to improve student success and the socialization of senior level administrators. He has experience in a variety of functional areas including financial aid, fraternity and sorority life and first-year programs, to name a few. Derrick earned his doctorate (PhD) in educational policy and leadership with a specialization in higher education and student affairs and a graduate interdisciplinary specialization in sexuality studies from Ohio State, his master's degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University, and his bachelor's degree in biology and cognitive science from Illinois Wesleyan University. His research interests consider three primary aspects of higher education: (a) leadership and organizational socialization of administrators in higher education; (b) minority serving institutions; and (c) impact of identity intersections on academic and social experiences of college students with specific consideration of race, gender, sexuality, and spirituality as social identities. Derrick L. Tillman-Kelly, PhD, has been named chief of staff in The Ohio State University College of Engineering to serve as principal advisor to Dean Ayanna Howard. Last episode I discussed the difficulty of communicating. In this episode, my wife joins me to discuss our approach to communicating and offer practical tips: Step 1 - Prep for Convo Humanize other party in conversation Invision conversation going how you want it to go. Preparing for how you will show up to the conversation. Know your message. What's your mission? What do you want to walk away from conversation with? Step 2 - The Dance Let the other party know where you're at. Expressing you are nervous or having a hard day. Mind tone of voice & body language Take notes if needed, communicate that you'll be taking notes Check-in at the signs of behavior changes to see if the other party understands what you're saying. It's okay to stop conversation and ask for more detail Notice change in facial expression Step 3 - The Follow-Up Follow up on a person item from conversation, helps you retain information Summary of conversation to reconfirm message, use this time to confirm a detail or reask a question Don't over analyze conversation, reflect and then implement improvements in the next conversation.

It can be stated, with practically no qualification, that people in general do not know how to listen. They have ears that hear very well, but seldom have they acquired the necessary aural skills which would allow those ears to be used effectively for what is called listening. In general, people feel that concentration while listening is a greater problem than concentration during any other form of personal communication. Actually, listening concentration is more difficult. When we listen, concentration must be achieved despite a factor that is peculiar to aural communication, one of which few people are aware. Basically, the problem is caused by the fact that we think much faster than we talk. The average rate of speech for most Americans is around 125 words per minute. This rate is slow going for the human brain, which is made up of more than 13 billion cells and operates in such a complicated but efficient manner that it makes the great, modern digital computers seem slow-witted. People who study the brain are not in complete agreement on how it functions when we think, but most psychologists believe that the basic medium of thought is language. Certainly words play a large part in our thinking processes, and the words race through our brains at speeds much higher than 125 words per minute. This means that, when we listen, we ask our brain to receive words at an extremely slow pace compared with its capabilities. - HBR Why is communication SO HARD!? After a health scare, Ryan Bartlett set out on a mission to naturally restore his health. On his quest for a method, he traced the cause of his problems and many problems in the world to food, and the medium in which most of our food is grown - soil. Because of modern farming practices, our soil is dying, and Ryan believes that in order to save the world we must restore our soil to a richer state. He believes the way to do this is through "regenerative farming," or "regenerative agriculture" “Regenerative Agriculture” describes farming and grazing practices that, among other benefits, reverse climate change by rebuilding soil organic matter and restoring degraded soil biodiversity – resulting in both carbon drawdown and improving the water cycle. The loss of the world's fertile soil and biodiversity, along with the loss of indigenous seeds and knowledge, pose a mortal threat to our future survival. According to soil scientists, at current rates of soil destruction (i.e. decarbonization, erosion, desertification, chemical pollution), within 50 years we will not only suffer serious damage to public health due to a qualitatively degraded food supply characterized by diminished nutrition and loss of important trace minerals, but we will literally no longer have enough arable topsoil to feed ourselves. The key to regenerative agriculture is that it not only “does no harm” to the land but actually improves it, using technologies that regenerate and revitalize the soil and the environment. Regenerative agriculture leads to healthy soil, capable of producing high quality, nutrient dense food while simultaneously improving, rather than degrading land, and ultimately leading to productive farms and healthy communities and economies. It is a dynamic and holistic, incorporating permaculture and organic farming practices, including conservation tillage, cover crops, crop rotation, composting, mobile animal shelters and pasture cropping, to increase food production, farmers' income and especially, topsoil. 16 days of Conscious Love guided meditation course https://www.facebook.com/groups/540124147161119/ Plant-based Fake Meats vs. Grass-fed Meats By Stephan van Vliet at Duke University: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-93100-3 Bionutreint food association for the data on nutrition variances in veggies: https://bionutrient.org/site/ Kiss the Ground documentary on Netflix: https://kissthegroundmovie.com/ Farmer's Footprint - https://farmersfootprint.us/

Historic buildings have been maintained, and even the new infrastructure does a great job of blending in with the old. Streetlamps adorn the streets, and signage prompts visitors to patronize local small businesses. You feel small town charm, but don't sacrifice modern amenities for it. The Noblesville downtown area is alive and thriving with unique shops and restaurants. Despite its local charm, there are plenty of chain establishments here as well. If you need a Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Target, or any other nationwide store, you can find those in Noblesville too. It has a population of around 65,000 people 89% white, 4.7% black, 3% two or more, 2% asian The median household income is $82,218 Noblesville attracted national media attention in 1965 when Noblesville Daily Ledger editor James T. Neal was charged with contempt by Hamilton County Circuit Court judge Ed New. Neal's fight for the First Amendment went before the Indiana Supreme Court.[12] In May 2018, it drew national attention again as the Noblesville West Middle School was the site of a school shooting with a teacher and student injured. The old Hamilton County Sheriff's Residence and Jail on the courthouse square in downtown Noblesville is now the home of the Hamilton County Museum of History. As a working jail, it once housed Charles Manson as a teenager and D. C. Stephenson, former Grand Dragon of the Indiana Ku Klux Klan. The Stephenson trial, which took place in the adjoining Hamilton County courthouse in 1925, broke the power of the Klan in Indiana. Outside of those events, it's a quiet place. Or so thought a resident as Indianapolis's “Laid Back Suburb.” Until, he went out for a walk one day. What followed after that has grown into a Facebook page with over 100k views, thousands of followers, and a community that depends on The Noblesville Scanner for no nonsense, fact based reporting about the happenings in the community. This gentlemen happens to be a very good friend of mine and he has allowed me to share his story today. My name is Rob Lawless. I'm 29 years old, I'm originally from Norristown, PA and I enjoy meeting new people. Back in May of 2013, I graduated summa cum laude from Penn State University with a degree in Finance and minors in Accounting & Entrepreneurship. After graduation, I began my career with Deloitte Consulting as a Business Analyst in Strategy & Operations. It was my reach job at the time, but about 1.5 years into it, I pulled a Millennial move – I took a large pay cut and left the Powerpoint decks and spreadsheets for the laid back, $24 million venture-funded RJMetrics. While at RJ, I worked as a sales rep where I cold emailed people every day asking them to hop on the phone for 30 mins to chat about our product. And my job being sales, I often received responses like these actual replies (s/o to all my reps still in the game): “Take me off your mailing list, cockroach” “I understand that this is your job. This being said. If asking a girl out for coffee and she ignores you twice and finally says no, you do NOT ask whether this is a no just now or a now forever – and you certainly do not ask her why you are not her type” (Disclaimer: I have never used this strategy on girls) “Not interested (and you're really starting to annoy me)” So along with a bunch of factors that I mention in my first blog post, I started this project to see if I could meet with people to chat for an hour for absolutely no reason and held my first meeting on November 11, 2015. I was rejected way less, the responses were all positive and encouraging, and I've met amazing people with incredible backgrounds who would all consider themselves normal. On Monday, June 20, 2016, RJMetrics was acquired by a larger company, which didn't require my position, so I dove in full-time on my endeavor to meet 10,000 different people for an hour each. Since then, I've met over 3,500 people from over 60 countries and 35 US States. I've driven across the country six times and also been featured by some awesome press sources, including Ryan Seacrest on his nationally syndicated radio show, “On Air with Ryan Seacrest,” as well as “Your Morning,” a national Canadian morning show and the TODAY Show with Hoda and Jenna! I also got the chance to appear as a guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show alongside Jane Lynch and Jo Koy where the audience was made up of ~100 friends from the project – an awesome experience! I love adventure and I love potential – over the last 4.5 years, I've found this project to have both so I've been greatly satisfied with how it's gone so far and can't wait to continue giving it 110% to see where it takes me in the future! Last thought, I've had a great experience meeting new people – if you feel so inclined, give it a try and let me know how it goes for you :) Rob's 10k Friends Website IG - @robs10kfriends (I'm friend #4426)

Otherwise, he chooses not to focus on it and has set out to create a new reality: Born in CA, moved to a very rural town in Colorado from 8-16. It was a super small town but it was wild. Looking back on it I'm pretty sure it's where all the criminals went to hide out from the surrounding cities. Started getting into drugs (just weed and mushrooms) at 14, but also watched my best friend smoke crack. Moved back to CA at 16. Got into harder drugs. Mostly party drugs. Started hanging out with a real rough crowd. Stabbed at 20 which led to the injury. Spent the last 18 years experimenting with psychedelics and studying theology (Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, the occult, Zoroastrianism), etc, philosophy, and quantum physics trying to figure out the nature of reality.
