Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes.Last week Disney pushed Avengers: Doomsday from its May 1, 2026 release to December 18, 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars from May 7, 2027 to December 18, 2027. The studio also removed several unannounced Marvel titles from its release calendar: a February 13, 2026 dated release has been removed entirely while November 2026 and 2027 releases have been rebranded from untitled Marvel films, to untitled Disney films.Memorial Day weekend's $326.7 million haul at the domestic box office was enough to earn it the title of the highest grossing Memorial Day weekend ever, with newcomer, Disney's live action Lilo & Stitch remake leading the way with $183 million, overtaking Top Gun: Maverick's $160 million weekend from 2022. Speaking of Tom Cruise, he was no slouch either, with the Mission: Impossible franchise's latest and supposed final installment, The Final Reckoning, earning a franchise high of $77.5 million. While appearing on a recent episode of The Box Office Podcast, Ryan Reynolds revealed he pitched an R-rated Star Wars film to Disney, saying, “I pitched to Disney, I said, ‘Why don't we do an R-rated “Star Wars” property? It doesn't have to be overt, A+ characters. There's a wide range of characters you could use,'” he said. “And I don't mean R-rated to be vulgar. R-rated as a Trojan horse for emotion. I always wonder why studios don't want to just gamble on something like that.” The Deadpool actor clarified the film would not be for him to star in, but contribute behind the scenes by writing and producing. Notably absent from the conversation is Disney's reception to the pitch. After an extensive search auditioning more than 30,000 actors, HBO's Harry Potter series has finally found its Harry, Hermoine and Ron, as Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast in the respective roles. Much like their predecessors from the films, our three leads are relative newcomers, with McLaughlin appearing alongside Hagrid-actor Nick Frost in the upcoming Sky comedy, Grow, and Stanton having starred as Matilda in Matilda The Musical on West End from 2023 to 2024, while this will be Stout's first significant role.Kieran Culkin has been cast as Caesar Flickerman in Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The reboot of medical comedy Scrubs from Bill Lawrence and ABC currently in development has officially cast Zach Braff who will return to the series to reprise the role of JD, a character he played for 9 seasons.A24 confirmed Alex Garland will write and direct a live-action Elden Ring film with Bandai Namco Entertainment. The acclaimed game won the 2022 Game of the Year Award and has sold over 30 million copies. The Wheel of Time has been canceled after three seasons at Amazon‘s Prime Video. The series, from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios and based on Robert Jordan's best-selling series of fantasy novels, aired its third-season finale on April 17.James Gunn confirmed DC Studios will attend Comic-Con this year(July 24-27) with a panel focusing on Peacemaker season 2. The new season will feature another dance sequence in its opening credits, like season 1.Marvel and DC will be collaborating on a crossover comic between characters for the first time in two decades. Tom Salinsky and John Dorney and from Best Pick podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Tom's choice Matilda the Musical. Matilda the Musical (2022) is a musical adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel based on the stage musical by Tim Minchin. It is directed by Matthew (Pride) Warchus and stars Alisha Weir as Matilda alongside Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough as Mr and Mrs Wormwood and Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull. Matilda the Musical follows the same story as the classic novel. Forever the disappointment of her family for not being born a boy, Matilda finds joy and escapism in reading. When it is discovered she has never been to school she is sent to Crunchem Hall. While at school she impresses the shy Miss Honey and irritates the angry and violent Miss Trunchbull with her precocious talents. Where it differs from the novel is the sub plot of an escapologist who falls in love with and marries an acrobat that is reoccurring. Is Matilda the best musical film of the last 20 years? It is according to Tom! Helen was less convinced, the addition of the unnecessary acrobat plot takes away from the original magic of the book and makes it a two hour film. While recommendability was pretty high its two hour runtime meant lower repeat and engagement scores, to give an overall rating of 4.16. Eleven years ago, Tim Minchin gave a speech that went viral. The Matilda The Musical composer, who was being awarded an honorary doctorate at The University of Western Australia, shared his nine life lessons with the graduating class – and to say it struck a chord with the world is to put it mildly. It has since clocked more than five million views.  Now he's turned that speech into a book called You Don't Have To Have A Dream. He joins Sarrah Le Marquand in the studio to discuss luck, micro-ambition, the poison of social media, compassion and infidelity. It gets a bit philosophical, but the thing about Tim is, he bares his soul in everything he does. And this conversation proved to be no different… You Don't Have To Have A Dream by Tim Minchin (Penguin, $36.99) is out September 10, and available for pre-order now. [School of Movies 2023] This, folks, is arguably the greatest adaptation of one of Roald Dahl's books made to date. Taking everything that was great about the 1988 book (one of his last, only followed by Esio Trot, The Vicar of Nibbleswick and The Minpins) and one of the abiding favourites for many kids and previously-kids who aren't entirely sure if they have truly grown up yet. It's about a schoolgirl who develops telekinetic powers that she uses to banish a truly horrific headteacher. But that is merely the skeletal plot, there is so much there about being lonely, being neglected and abused and using your frustrations for something positive (making this the Anti-Carrie). And that was conducted in the beloved Mara Wilson and Danny DeVito film from 1996.  But in turning this thing into a successful West-End musical Tim Minchin added some truly memorable, frequently brilliant songs, a whole sub-plot about a story Matilda is weaving together, even more significance for the role of Miss Honey (played with astonishing fragility by Lashana Lynch). It's also a little less mean-spirited than a lot of Dahl's work, which makes it more suited to newer generations.  Alisha Weir absolutely kills it as Matilda, and Emma Thompson is unrecognisably foul as the monstrous Agatha Trunchbull. This film adaptation of the musical play adaptation is a Netflix-funded production, so should be possible to see right now. And with Wonka on the way from the director of Paddington, we hope this is the beginning of a 2020s Dahlaissance.

This week's episode of the Empire Podcast sees Luca Guadagnino, director of Call Me By Your Name, talk about his new movie, the dark cannibal romance Bones And All, and to spare him the ignominy of Chris Hewitt bellowing *that* song at him, we asked John Nugent to Zoom with Guadagnino instead. The result is a fascinating and frank discussion about the director's creative process. Also being frank and fascinating about their creative process is Tim Minchin, the genius songwriter behind the tunes of this week's Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical. He talks to Helen O'Hara about turning the hit stage musical into a movie, and about the sad failure of the quite wonderful Groundhog Day The Musical. Then, in the podbooth, Chris Hewitt returns and, as well as Googling 'how to host a podcast', welcomes Helen, James Dyer and fourth chair newcomer, Kelechi Ehenulo for discussions of random encounters with Emma Thompson in a lift, the best sequels to not feature the main character from the previous movie, the week's movie news (such as it is; thanks a bunch, Thanksgiving!), and review Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, She Said, Strange World, Matilda, The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special, and more. It's podcast time — gobble gobble!
