#27: Talkin Blues w/ Jake Friel & Alex Goldberg

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 23, 2022 70:52

You've probably heard “The Blues”, you may have had them before, you might even play blues, it's a very human genre with instrumentation that is highly digestible and easy to teach and learn. Which is what makes playing and listening to the blues such a universal experience. It's amazing how much emotion can be conveyed through a simple 3 chord song. My guests today Jake Friel (touring harmonica singer and vocalist as well as recording artist) and Alex Goldberg (touring bassist and recording artist) are no strangers to the blues. They currently play with Colorado Americana Blues Staple, AJ Fullerton (who was featured on the show on Episode 18) Aside from AJ, Alex plays with many different acts nationally and internationally! He currently plays regularly with SMIRK [hip-hop/ neo-soul], Sheridan Blvd [Contemporary Funk], Sweet Virginia, The Celtic Angels, and has played bass with many greats. Read his full bio on his site [link this sentence]Jake also has a career of his own and as we talk about in the episode, he has not one… but two full length albums that are unreleased, as well as tons of other new material coming down the pike. Jake has a voice that's full, smooth and buttery, with just the right amount of grit. His voice was made to sing the blues. You might relate to this conversation if you're:A Fan of blues music who wants to hear some in depth discussions about the history of blues music, and how musicians who play this style pay homage to its rich historyA blues musicianA touring musicianA recording artistA Music History aficionadoOr  if you just feel like taking a few hours to listen to a chill conversation about music history, harmonica, what music means vs what the music business makes it feel like it should beThis is the What More Can I Say Podcast, the show “Dedicated to Truth Seeking, Through Conversations with Conscious Makers & Creators” and I hope you enjoy my wide ranging conversation with Jake Friel and Alex GoldbergSongs mentioned in episode: B.B. #26: CANCELLING CANCEL CULTURE w/ Calvin Corelli....

Play Episode Play 57 sec Highlight Listen Later Jun 15, 2022 118:26

Calvin Correli is a serial entrepreneur and founder of Simplero. Calvin is on a mission to raise the maturity-level of people all over the world... "I was born dead. Strangled in my own umbilical cord. In other words, my life started with a near-death experience. That shaped me for life. It gave me a strong connection to the divine. It also caused a lot of pain. The "other side" can be so appealing compared to this. That's why I strive to bring the light and love of the "other side" into the physical world we humans must interact with, to make the experience just a little sweeter.I do that through information, coaching, products, and services."- Calvin Correli You've probably heard the phrase “cancel culture” and are familiar with the notion of being canceled. You accidentally say something inflammatory about someone who is from a socially protected (and I use air quotes) group and boom… you're cancelled. Or if you're Joe Rogan, you somehow get pinned as a mascot for anti-establishment rhetoric and people forget that you're just a curious pothead comedian. My conversation with Calvin focuses a lot on what it means to be a fully functional mature adult, as broken down into the following categories: mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional maturity. Calvin's assertion is that Americans by and large have been parented poorly, and now we are left with a generation of adults who are struggling to mature in the previous 4 categories. Most of our role models in US culture do not check all for of these boxes, and our politicians hardly check any. Calvin and I discuss: the current broken state of the United states' political system, his entrepreneurial journey,  his aspirations to be a Speical advisor to the president of the united states on conscious nation building,  how he uses BodyMEal and a proprietary Danish workout method dubbed Pafei to stay in shape, as well as how he has found that his life's calling is to meld spirituality with entrepreneurship. #23: The Power of Deadlines & The "3 P's of Productivity"

Play Episode Listen Later May 24, 2022 25:31

This is a rare solo episode where I wanted to speak about some things that I don't think are widespread knowledge for people who aren't traditionally "knowledge workers".  There are three key principles / methods that I have distilled down into something I have coined the "3 P's of Productivity" (previously called Pareto & the Tomato but now that Parkinson's Law is involved that makes 3 P's!If you have a project that you've been meaning to get done but just can't force yourself to get around to, then you have to The Pareto Principle (or more commonly referred to as "the 80/20 rule") is described by Productivity Tool Asana on their blog as "The Pareto principle states that for many outcomes, roughly 80% of consequences come from 20% of causes. In other words, a small percentage of causes have an outsized effect. This concept is important to understand because it can help you identify which initiatives to prioritize so you can make the most impact."The Pomodoro Technique is a neuroscience-backed approach to looking at our ability to focus on a given task (or batch of tasks). It operates under the assumption that the human mind can only focus effectively to its full potential for 25 minutes at a time before we start to become increasingly less efficient Parkinson's Law is the idea that work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion. Which means if you shorten your deadlines, you get more done! The Power of Setting Short public facing deadlines is that you have something achievable that you are able to accomplish as long as you commit. Whether that be the fictional newsletter to yourself that I mention in this episode or if you have a podcast or blog of your own! There is something so powerful about non-negotiable public facing deadlines that I haven't been able to put into words yet (well besides on this episode) but will be thinking about how to distill this down into a more succinct way of saying itSupport the show

In this episode Nick sits down with his business partner Andrew Webber. They co-own a pet portrait business in the Denver area and decided to capture a quick recording after a day of working on content for their portrait business. From Nick:"Andrew Webber is a musician, artist, deep thinker, and overall badass creative human. We were chatting about his coworker's dating situation and I thought it would be a good time to hit "record" on my phone. We discuss: acceptance of situations, expectations, eastern vs western philosophies, incells, ethical non-monogamy, religion, winning the "homeless lottery" and more! This undoubtedly won't be the last episode featuring Andrew. Enjoy! Peace, Nick"START YOUR OWN PODCAST AND GET A $20 AMAZON GIFT CARD>> https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=1903566
