In this episode of the podcast, I speak with Carlos Moreira, the CEO of WISeKey. We discuss the possibilities for building a human-centered technological future today—and the consequences if we do not. What does a human-centered model for technological production look like? How can we build human rights into our tech? And what needs to change to return human values to tech? Carlos Moreira is the Founder Chairman CEO of the international cybersecurity firm WISeKey and the author (along with David Fergusson) of The Transhuman Code, a landmark book about ethics and technology. Before founding WISeKey, he served as the United Nations Expert on CyberSecurity and Trust Models. During his 17 years as UN Expert, he became recognized worldwide as an Internet Pioneer and a distinctive authority, thought leader, and entrepreneurial force in today's digital world where the acquisition and trusted protection of Identity, Trust and Security has become an essential step for citizens and entities across the globe. Guided by a belief that the Internet needs to be safe and universal and a tool for prosperity, he began developing technologies to protect the Internet and founded WISeKey. He is the founder of SG International Organization for Secure Electronic Transactions IOSET OISTE.org, a founding member of the “Comité de Pilotage Project E-Voting” of the Geneva Government, a Member of the UN Global Compact, and a Member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council—among many other leadership roles. He has previously served as an Adjunct Professor of the Graduate School of Engineering RMIT Australia, and as Head of the Trade Efficiency Lab at the Graduate School of Engineering at RMIT. In The TransHuman Code, he and his co-author David Fergusson ask, ''Are we building a better future for humanity with the help of magnificent technology, or are we instead building a better future of better technology at the expense of humanity? The book imagines what it would look like to center humanity in the emerging tension between a human-controlled or a machine-controlled world. This episode was produced by Matt Perry. Robert Frick, corporate economist at Navy Federal Credit Union, says that nervous investors are worried about numbers that are much more solid than they appear in headlines. Frick notes that retail sales, for example, could come down 5 percent from current levels and they'd still be booming. He sees strong economic growth even as the headline numbers start to reflect the movement from recovery mode to pre-pandemic normals. Also on the show, Adam Rozencwagj of Goehring and Rozencwajg says that a decade-long bear market in commodities has ended and that there are strong signs for a bull market ahead, helped along by the localized supply shortages arising from the pandemic. And Jeffrey Hirsch, editor-in-chief of Stock Traders' Almanac, says that the stock market is likely to see heightened volatility but mostly sideways movement through the fall.

"The porn industry, many agree, can be cold, hostile, and even outright dangerous for performers — especially women. Many porn stars and other sex workers believe that violence and sexual assault is an "occupational hazard" that comes with the job. That's why more and more women are starting their own porn production companies and creating environments that are friendlier and safer for female porn stars. Paulita Pappel is one of these women. She runs a by-women-for-women porn site, Ersties (NSFW), that specializes in female-friendly sex. Before shooting, Pappel makes sure the performers get to know each other a little bit, and the film crew makes sure everyone on screen is comfortable. "We ask, 'Is there any part of your body where you don't like to be touched?' 'What turns you on?' 'Are you ticklish?' 'Do you like kissing?'" Pappel told Melia Robinson at Tech Insider. She said she doesn't want to have to watch an adult film and wonder, "Does that woman on screen really want to be doing that?" n March of last year, Stoya launched a new porn website and production company called TRENCHCOATx (also NSFW) that promises high-quality content at fair prices for the consumer, as well as fair pay (and good treatment) for performers. "The kind of performers that I hire and perform with, they're educated enough about ... all of the options to be able to make their own decisions," Stoya said on the Guys We F****d podcast. "When you have a huge platform [in porn], and you perpetuate this idea that as a worker in porn, as a performer, you are going to get kicked around and taken advantage of, then when the kids who are like, 15 now, seeing that — when some of them turn 18 ... and go into porn, they're not going to know that it's actually totally possible to be like, 'Here are my limits, here's what I'm willing to do ... and here are the terms that I'm willing to do it under.' They don't know that it's totally OK to do that." Feministpornguide.com (yes, there is such a thing) lists more than 30 directors creating feminist, female-friendly, and sex-positive porn — and that's only on the one website. Many more in the industry are recognizing the need for a change — whether through experience as a performer or simply as a consumer — from a chauvinistic, dick-first approach to one that values, dare I say, female pleasure, the female viewer, and respect for women (and men) who work in porn. That doesn't mean the end of bondage or sadism or humiliation or any other kind of kink people are into — as long as the actors and actresses are willing to do any of these things, and are treated like human beings in the process. That, I'd have to say, is the sexiest thing of all." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

This is the talk from our 10:30am morning communion service on Sunday 5th July 21. The passage was Acts 4:32-5:11 and Rev. Neil Smart spoke with the title 'Are you serious?'
'Are newsletters dead?' I was asked this question on a training a few weeks ago. And I couldn't say 'no' fast enough. Because I really don't think they are. I think quality mailing lists are magic. We know that not everyone you send your email to will open it. And we know that out of everyone who opens it, not everyone is going to click through and take the action/s we like... but that doesn't mean they're dead. There are SO many reasons why email marketing is incredibly valuable to businesses, brands and influencers, and I explore these in this week's podcast. What do you think? Are you an email marketing devotee or have you *slightly* neglected your list of late and need to show it a teeny bit more care and attention?

THAT RIFF! THAT STYLE! THOSE FLARES! With Lenny Kravitz's 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' we may be checking out an album from 1993 but it's one that was trying to sound like it was from 1970 in the first place so buckle up for double time-travelling. Krister had never heard the whole album before and Dave only had the vaguest of memories of it so we went in pretty blind, hoping for a sea of big guitar rock and Hendrix-style solos all over the place but found something much more calm and reigned-in which was very unexpected. But we also get to chat about Naughty By Nature, Right Said Fred (and a potential name for a tribute act) and Mark Lanegan. All of which are included on the episode's playlist along with the full Kravitz album. And as usual you can look at our Facebook, Twitter and website for more bits and pieces and subscribe to our ongoing Best Tracks from the Episodes playlist on Spotify to hear all of our favourite picks from each album we've talked about so far.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for April 23, 2021 is: bogart BOH-gahrt verb 1 : to cause (someone) to do something by means of force or coercion : bully 2 : to use the entirety of or consume without sharing Examples: "At the end of a long day, it's tempting to dive into your social feeds or Netflix queue the minute you've finished eating. But back before screens bogarted all our free time, an after-dinner stroll was a popular activity and one associated with improved health and digestion." — Markham Reid, Time, 26 Sept. 2018 "'Are you a woman or a detective?' Wellington asks during, like, his millionth bout of frustration. 'Why should there be a distinction?' Eliza retorts, and this riposte-free game continues to go round and round, with Eliza bogarting clues and dancing a few steps ahead of him at every turn." — Melanie McFarland, Salon, 17 Jan. 2021 Did you know? The legendary film actor Humphrey Bogart was known for playing a range of tough characters in a series of films throughout the 1940s and 1950s, including The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, and The African Queen. The men he portrayed often possessed a cool, hardened exterior that occasionally let forth a suggestion of romantic or idealistic sentimentality. Bogart also had a unique method of smoking cigarettes in these pictures—letting the butt dangle from his mouth without removing it until it was almost entirely consumed. It is believed that this habit inspired the current meaning of bogart, which was once limited to the phrase "Don't bogart that joint [=marijuana cigarette]," as popularized by a song on the soundtrack to the film Easy Rider. Today, bogart can be applied to hogging almost anything.

Jonathan Gantt, Clemson's associate AD for creative solutions, joins the podcast to reflect on what the last year has been like for Clemson's social-media presence as well as for the athletics department as a whole. "There was a time over the summer when it looked like football wasn't going to happen, and we were looking at each other and saying: 'Are we going to have jobs next week?'" Gantt said. Gantt was a major part of Clemson's burgeoning, pioneering social-media presence in 2014 and beyond as the Tigers' exquisite, unique branding dovetailed with their rise to sustained prominence on the football field. Gantt gives insight into how much trends have changed in digital branding, and how Clemson has pivoted in reaction to those changes. When you have set the standard for social-media presentation, how do you remain cutting-edge and innovative when everyone else is mimicking your innovations so much that they are commonplace? Also: What is the era of Name, Image and Likeness going to look like with athletes -- not just the ones from the high-profile sports, but also ones from non-revenue sports -- allowed to monetize their brands? Gantt is playing a key role in Clemson's preparations for NIL, and he says the athletics department is well positioned to be at the forefront of whatever the landscape looks like.
