Break 1: Kia MOG (07.14.22 KIA MOG) STORY 1: Bestselling author Marie Bostwick to speak May 12 at Duluth library Bestselling author Marie Bostwick, known for her love of book clubs, is touring Georgia to promote her latest novel, *The Book Club for Troublesome Women*. The story follows four housewives in 1963 whose lives are transformed by starting a book club. Inspired by her 92-year-old mother’s experience with *The Feminine Mystique*, Bostwick highlights the power of books to change lives and foster civil discourse. She’ll visit the Duluth branch of the Gwinnett County Library on May 12 as part of her 11-state tour, celebrating the magic of shared stories and meaningful connections. STORY 2: Video tightens up timeline before Lawrenceville twins deaths, but questions remain A surveillance video from a Shell gas station on March 7 is aiding investigators in piecing together the mysterious deaths of Lawrenceville twins Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, found shot on Bell Mountain the next morning. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation initially labeled the case a murder-suicide, but the family disputes this, insisting the twins would not take their own lives. The video shows the twins casually eating snacks and drinking water, with no signs of distress. Questions remain about how they accessed the closed park and the timeline of their deaths. The case has also faced controversy after a firefighter shared scene photos, leading to their dismissal. STORY 3: Gwinnett Police Department's Situational Awareness and Crime Response Center receives statewide award The Gwinnett County Police Department’s Situational Awareness and Crime Response Center (SACRC) has earned a 2025 Georgia County Excellence Award for its innovative use of technology to enhance public safety. Part of the Gwinnett Safe Communities initiative, the SACRC uses tools like Flock Safety Cameras, license plate readers, and predictive analytics to track criminals, locate missing persons, and respond to crime in real time. In 2024, it contributed to over 250 arrests, recovered 80 stolen vehicles, and found 12 missing individuals. The award highlights the center’s success in fostering safer, more connected communities through technology and collaboration. Clint Dixon, expands the High Demand Apprenticeship Program to include apprenticeship sponsors, allowing them to receive funding upon successful completion. Both bills aim to strengthen Georgia’s workforce and economy by enhancing education and training opportunities, aligning with the state’s commitment to being a leader in business and job creation. Marial has years ahead of him and after a positive season with the Maine Celtics, he looks forward to signing somewhere soon. Marial takes us back to his time growing up in Ottawa being surrounded by four siblings (two who were serious hoopers), and his father who is a former D1 basketball player. In his Grade 12 year, Marial made the decision to move from St. Patrick's high school to the storied program at Blair Academy in New Jersey, where names like Luol Deng and Charlie Villanueva also attended. From there the decision on which school to attend became a tough one. After committing to Marquette, then head coach Buzz Williams left for Virginia Tech so Marial decided to attend the University of Virginia instead. Some great insight and thoughts about his three years there, but in the end he ultimately decided to transfer for his senior year at Iowa State where he averaged 19 ppg in 2018-19, was an Associate Press Honorable Mention All-American and BIG 12 Tournament MVP. The ups, downs and in-between are all in Episode 110. Marial shows great reflection and understanding of who he is all while staying positive and reflecting on where he's come. Thanks Nachum! Happy 6/13 everyone! Today on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, we wrap up the indoor season and get set for the last handful of games on the diamond, and we recap the 2023 Martin Weiselberg Memorial Junior High Hockey Tournament. All that and more straight ahead, good morning, I'm Elliot Weiselberg. Boys volleyball capped off the indoor sports season as two powerhouses, SAR and Ramaz met in the finals. Ramaz, the most decorated school in boys volleyball history jumped out to a first game win 21-18 before the defending champion Sting took game 2 21-16. Game 3 would prove to be pivotal as Ramaz would take the 3 point win and then roll in Game 4 by 10 points to take home the school's third banner in the last 4 championships. Moving outdoors, the boys softball championship is set as defending champion MAY will look to repeat, but will need to go through perennial powerhouse Hillel to do so. The 2015, 2017 and 2018 champion Heat took out YDE 3-0 and will go toe to toe with the Eagles next Monday night at MAY. MAY will also play host to the JV Championship as the Junior Eagles outlasted YDE 7-6 to advance to take on Netzach Hatorah who pulled off the shocking upset of defending champion Hillel 2-0. That game will happen this Sunday afternoon. The Hillel varsity girls will look to make it a double as they advance to the finals defeating Ilan on Sunday 7-2. They will square off with Frisch who defeated Bruriah 2-1 in their semifinal contest. In Baseball SAR battered Heschel 8-1 to advance to the finals where they await the winner of tomorrow night's contest between DRS and Frisch. Finally, the 2023 Martin Weiselberg Memorial Tournament took place this past Sunday and its 16th version paid homage to the very first, 16 years earlier. The morning session of the junior high hockey tournament featuring 8 teams from the NY and NJ leagues saw HAFTR, HANC, Yavneh and Noam take victories. In the afternoon, Moriah rebounded to defeat HAFTR and then knock them off in a play-in shootout to join HANC in one semifinal, while Noam shocked NY league finalist HALB 3-2 with a last minute tiebreaking goal to advance to the semifinals with Yavneh. The semifinals would see HANC defeat Moriah 2-1 in overtime on Isaac Silbiger's 2nd game winning goal of the day and Yavneh blank Noam 3-0 to set up a showdown of the two league champions and a rematch of the very first tournament finals back in 2006. In that showdown, Yavneh came away victorious, and in this contest, they would do the same, as Eitan Goldwasser and Max Pomerantz scored for the Redhawks to give Yavneh it's third tournament banner. Fellow Redhawk Adin Katler took home Tournament MVP honors with 3 goals and 2 assists on the day. Goalie Zac Nussbaum posted three shutouts and is the first honoree announced for the first-team all-tournament squad. The remainder of the first-team and second-team all-tournament awardees will be announced over the next few days. You can relive the event by going to our website, mwtournament.com and in the process donate to help us wrap up our goal of $10,000.00 for Hatzolah. A special thank you to HAFTR for providing their facilities for the day and to everyone who donated, sponsored, bought raffle tickets and volunteered their time for the 16th year in a row. Stay tuned next week for our final episode of the 2022-2023 school year. And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I'm Elliot Weiselberg!

Thanks Nachum! Today on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, Frisch sees plenty of soccer action, and plenty of soccer gold and results from the 2022 Martin Weiselberg Memorial Junior High hockey tournament. All that and more straight ahead, good morning I'm Elliot Weiselberg. We'll start off in soccer where Frisch has taken home 2 of the 3 championships that have already been decided. The Boys Varsity team capped off a perfect season with a 12-5 drubbing of SAR for what essentially is their 2nd consecutive championship, having won the last championship in 2019. Joining them are the JV Girls Cougars who doubled up Ma'ayanot 8-4 for their first championship since the 2016-17 season, where they also topped the Rapids in the finals. The JV Boys will square off with SAR tonight at JEC. Unfortunately for the Girls Varsity team, the chance for a Frisch sweep ended with a semifinal loss to SAR. The Sting would not be so fortunate in the championship, though, falling 12-5 to Kushner. In Boys Volleyball, the SAR Sting advance to the finals after upsetting the top seed Ramaz Rams 3 sets to 1. The Rams shook off a dominant 21-9 Sting first set victory to win the second set 22-20, but the Sting would take the third in extras and seal the match off with a 21-13 4th set win. The Sting will advance to play North Shore in the finals. SAR, the 4th seed swept the regular season meeting between the two 3 sets to none. Outdoors, the Boys JV Softball championship is set, as YDE will square off with Hillel for the title. Hillel defeated Heichel Hatorah 3-2 while YDE upended Darchai 11-1 in the semifinals to advance. Finally, congratulations to the Moriah Mountaineers, the 2022 Martin Weiselberg Memorial Hockey Tournament champions. Moriah went undefeated through Har Torah and HANC in round-robin action, rival Yavneh in the semifinals and in a rematch of the 2022 YMSSA championship, shut out Ramaz 3-0 to take home the school's 4th tournament title. Tournament MVP honors went to Moriah goalie Jared Helwani, winner of all 4 games, yielding only 1 goal on the day. After getting right to the precipe each of the previous three NCAA Tournaments, the UNC women's lacrosse team finally got across the finish line. Coach Jenny Levy's squad is so mature and talented that nothing can really rattle them. After securing one of the craziest come-from-behind victories against Northwestern on Friday, Jamie Ortega and company won a hard-fought affair over Boston College in the national championship on Sunday. Sam Geiersbach was the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and deservedly so. The championship is the third for the Tar Heels, with the other coming in 2013 and 2016.Occurring at the same time, the baseball team kept their hot streak alive, winning the ACC Championship 9-5 over NC State. Freshman Vance Honeycutt was the Tournament MVP and became the first Tar Heel to ever post a 20-20 season (HR & SB) - as a freshman. Second-year coach Scott Forbes' team has won 15 of 17 and will host an NCAA Tournament Regional. We await the other three teams and Carolina's overall seed. Meanwhile, coveted Baylor transfer Matthew Mayer committed to Illinois over the weekend. After narrowing his choice to four schools, it seemed all the more likely that he would choose the Tar Heels, but it was not meant to be. The deadline to pull out of the NBA Draft is this Wednesday, June 1, and then we should have a better idea about who will be available. Sabonis spent seven seasons with the Portland Trailblazers (1995-2001 and 2002-2003), after a long, accomplished career playing internationally with Žalgiris in the USSR Premier League (1981–1989), as well as the Spanish teams Fórum Valladolid (1989–1992) and Real Madrid (1992-1995). Sabonis was a 2x champion in the ACB League (1993, 1994), 3x champion in the USSR Premier League (1985–1987), and won the FIBA European League Championship (1995) and FIBA Club World Cup Championship (1986). After years of bloodshed, resistance and unrest, Lithuania declared it's independence from the Soviet Union in 1990. Four-time NBA All-Star, All-NBA (1993) and Dream Team II (1994) member, Mark Price. Mark Price rose to basketball prominence from humble beginnings. He starred at Enid High School in Oklahoma, breaking many records; serendipitously, equaling feats set by his famous father, Denny, decades earlier. After high school, Mark played four years with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. To this day, his name is littered throughout the record books. As a freshman, he led the ACC in scoring (20.3 ppg) – an outstanding achievement, given the depth of talent in the conference. Prior to his sophomore campaign, he was a member of Team USA’s gold-medal winning squad at the 1983 Pan-American Games in Venezuela. Mark, and fellow teammate, John Salley, were named team co-captains as sophomores. As a junior, Mark led his team to a 27-8 record. Tech won the ACC Championship, Price was named Tournament MVP and also won (1985) ACC Player of the Year. Georgia Tech advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, before finally bowing out to the Patrick Ewing-led Georgetown Hoyas. Mark left Georgia Tech as the only player in school history to lead the team in scoring all four seasons. Mark was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1986 NBA Draft, before being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. We discuss Price’s transition from college to the pros, plus, how the Cavaliers franchise went from ‘cadavers’ to contenders in just two seasons. Mark breaks down each season in Cleveland and we touch on memorable moments from throughout his fantastic tenure with the Cavaliers, culminating with the team’s run to the 1992 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, where they met the Chicago Bulls – one of Mark’s five post-season series’ versus Chicago. Mark also talks about his trade from Cleveland to the Golden State Warriors and his season in Washington where he was teammates with his brother, Brent Price. Mark’s last season was spent in Orlando. We conclude the conversation by discussing Mark’s journey on the sidelines, where he has a wealth of experience in a multitude of roles; most recently (September, 2018), where he was named an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets. This is a strong contender for my favourite episode of the show yet. Links discussed (include): * Mark’s (1983) Team USA wins gold at the Pan-American Games * Mark recalls his historic 1989 Playoffs series versus Chicago * Mark returns from a possible career-ending injury * Dream Team II destroys all-comers; wins 1994 World Champs * Price joins Denver Nuggets as an assistant coach   People mentioned in this episode, include: Craig Ehlo, Brad Daugherty, Ron Harper, Larry Bird, Drazen Petrovic, Lenny Wilkens, Mike Fratello, Wayman Tisdale, Chris Mullin, Spud Webb, Johnny Dawkins, Wayne Embry, Nate McMillan, Jim McIlvaine & Kenny Smith.   Editor's note: sign-up for my monthly newsletter - receive exclusive details on upcoming podcast episodes and future, high-profile guests to appear on the show. Welcome to another edition of PoPolitickin. In this episode, we politick with author Isaac "Ike-Moe" Williams. Ike Moe latest book is entitled "From The Courts To The Streetz". The true life story of a Dallas native once considered one of the city’s best basketball players in the late 1980’s. He attended Spruce High School from 1986 to 1989. He only played 3 years of high school and 3 years of college. He was the first ball player in the history of the Dr. Pepper Tournament in 1989 to lose the championship game and still be named MVP. He was named All-State and Honorable Mention All-American in the 1989. He went on to play college ball at the University of New Mexico, where he led the Lobos to their first Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and was named Tournament (MVP), and 1st team All -Conference. He later became the 24th Leading scorer in Lobo’s history in only 3 years of play. He became a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers and was drafted 3rd round in the CBA. After leaving the CBA, he played in the United States Basketball League, and later overseas in Caracas, Venezuela. Then it all went bad. He made a drastic turn to the street life, where he fell into the bottomless pit of the underworld. Fallen. Never to get up. But he survived to tell his story. This is my story. “From The Court To The Streets.” Check out the book on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Courts-Streetz-Autobiography-Ike-Moe-Williams/dp/069290168X
