Here in France, the flood waters rising as the remnants of tropical storm Kirk dump biblical amounts of rain. But that is just a drop in the bucket compared with what the southeastern United States faces: Hurricane Milton forcing the evacuation of five and-a-half million Florida residents with president Biden warning this could become the storm of the century. Even more dramatic is that Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and beyond are still reeling from the US' deadliest storm since 2005, what with Hurricane Helene killing 230, causing billions in destruction. Now's not the time for partisan politics, or is it? Democrats accuse Republicans of a mass disinformation campaign about the rescue and cleanup effort from Helene while Donald Trump doubles down on accusations that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris funneled money to charities that help migrants.Just how much will Mother Nature be on the ballot November 5th? More broadly, there is a populist backlash on both sides of the Atlantic against carbon cutting policies, policies that Hungary's Viktor Orban, France's Marine Le Pen and Germany's right all say punishes the pocketbooks of the middle classes while taking away individual freedoms.  Produced by Alessandro Xenos, Rebecca Gnignati and Annarosa Zampaglione.

It's no secret that I'm not a fan of RINOs. Unlike most conservatives, I do not consider them a "lesser of two evils" compared to Democrats. A case can be made for that being the case on an individual level, but every time a RINO is elected it strengthens the GOP Establishment's control over the Republican Party. I can make a clear argument that getting rid of RINOs and bringing in more America First conservatives is more important than getting rid of Democrats.U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions in Texas is a RINO. Thankfully, he has some competition in his district from an America First patriot, Jason "Storm" Nelson. I was joined by the veteran on the latest episode of The Midnight Sentinel. It was an excellent interview and I am endorsing Nelson in the race as a result. Watch or listen and find out if you need to support him as well.

Shad - "Storm (feat. Phoenix Pagliacci & George Elliott Clarke)" from the 2021 album TAO on Secret City. When it comes to today's featured track, Toronto-based rapper Shad wrote on his Facebook, "Not even sure how to describe this next song." The powerful single draws inspiration from '70s icons "Marvin Gaye, The Last Poets, The Staples Singers, Sly Stone," and features collaborations with artist pHoenix Pagliacci, Canadian band Jane's Party, and former Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada, George Elliott Clarke.  "'Storm' is a feeling," he continued in a press release. "The feeling of a flood of memories. In the same way that a storm is the result of forces that gather strength quietly, often invisibly over time — this song is meant to hold a sense of the same sort of process as it relates to the storms in our lives and the storms in our world. The way storms can build up almost imperceptibly in our individual and collective unconscious. The song touches on a range of personal and political storms, both good and bad, through a range of voices, but most importantly it sees them all as inextricably tied." The Employment Relations Authority helps to solve employment disputes if the issue cannot be resolved through mediation. But Covid-related employment issues, disruption to investigations caused by last year's lockdowns, and increasingly complex cases have jammed up the dispute resolution system. In the South Island, 60 cases are still awaiting allocation, while in the top half of the North Island, around 130 cases are awaiting allocation. That's a 27 percent increase in the first six months of 2021 when compared to the same time in 2019. Kathryn speaks with Anthony Drake, an employment lawyer and the vice president of the Employment Law Institute and Nathan Santesso, the director of The Worker's Advocate.

Is it worse to die an ignoble death at the hands of your enemy, or those of your 'supposed' friends?'A Farewell To Arms' by Ernest Hemingway is one of the novels that emerged from WWI. It is the main American book as they joined the war relatively late in comparison to many of the other countries. It is a fictional story that tells of the ambulance driver Frederic Henry as he helps on the front line in Italy. He falls in love with a nurse named Catherine Barkley and eventually becomes disillusioned by the whole premise of the war. Stylistically it is notable for the hollow and somewhat clipped narration of events and conversations.I summarised the book as follows. "I found this story to be detached, anti-war and ultimately uneventful. After reading it I came out as apathetic as the Tenente. Stylistically it might have merit for being new but I found the conversations quite off-putting, although the actual story was ok. I feel the were better books from people who spent more time in the war, such as 'All Quiet On The Western Front' or 'Storm of Steel'."As always, I hope you have a fantastic day wherever you are in the world. A hectic account of trench warfare by a born soldier!'Storm of Steel' by Ernst Jünger is a first person account of life during World War I as told through the eyes of a young German soldier. There is no particular plot, closer to a diary of his experiences on the Western Front during engagements such as the: Battle of Ypres, Battle of Cambrai & the final German spring offensive. It's not a political book and is simply an account of what Jünger saw/felt during this period of his life.I summarised the book as follows. "Jünger faces unending blood, raining steel, bone-numbing cold, asphyxiating gas, energy snapping mud and a meeting with death. If you ever wanted to know what the experience of a modern day adrenaline junkie would be during war time, then this is the book for you.
