On the Saturday January 18, 2025 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we get to know filmmaker, writer, visual artist and community organizer Rebeccah Love. Rebeccah is an advocate for people with mental and physical disabilities as she personally experiences both. Rebeccah has a history of psychosis and experienced institutional violence as a psychiatric patient. She also has a physical disability that affects her mobility and how she walks. Her new film is “Fortescue.” It touches on questions relating to the underlying tensions in female friendships, the male gaze and violence against the mentally ill. Rebeccah will take her film on a national tour this year, starting in February where the film will be screened in Vancouver, Victoria, Halifax, P.E.I and Toronto (more dates TBA). Then, I'll take you to a little piece of France located 90-minute ferry from Fortune, Newfoundland. It's Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, the location of a new CBC television show starring Allan Hawko, you know him and love him from “The Republic of Doyle,” among many other things, and “Death in Paradise” star Josephine Jobert. Called “Saint-Pierre,” the show is a police procedural set on the island involving Donny "Fitz" Fitzpatrick a police officer sent there to work after one of his investigations got uncomfortably close to the corruption of a powerful local politician on the mainland. Exiled to the French territory of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, he partners with local police officer Geneviève "Arch" Archambault to solve local crimes.

Earn 0.1 ASHA CEU for this episode with Speech Therapy PD: https://www.speechtherapypd.com/course?name=Taking-a-Bite-out-of-TraumaInformed-CareIn this episode, Michelle and Erin are joined by Rachel Archambault, an SLP Program Specialist for Broward County Public Schools and passionate colleague behind the @PTSD.SLP social media advocacy account. “Trauma-informed care” (TIC) has gained traction within our field in the last few years; however, most of us who practice this approach have never received explicit instruction. Where do we begin? Well, that's what Rachel and Erin break down in this episode. Tune in as they go through the key principles, discuss preferred resources, and then teach us how to clinically apply it to the little ones we serve in all settings: early intervention, private practice, and even public schools!About the Guest: Rachel Archambault, MA CCC-SLP is an SLP Program Specialist for Broward County Public Schools. After a traumatic event happened at her workplace on 2/14/18, she looked for ways to help work with students (and herself) after trauma. She found trauma-informed care and has been presenting nationally to SLPs and other providers on how TIC can be used in their setting. She runs the Instagram account, @PTSD.SLP which discusses TIC from a speech lens.Hosted by: Michelle Dawson MS, CCC-SLP, CLC, BCS-S and Erin Forward, MSP, CCC-SLP, CLC, Advanced DIR/Floortime® Provider, TBRI® Trained PractitionerWatch the full video interview on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@speechtherapypd

Many therapists feel as though they have limited upward mobility in their careers. Graduate programs understandably focus on direct clinical practice and understanding evidence-based practices.Unfortunately, this leaves many clinicians unprepared to navigate policy work, salary negotiations, or running a business. This makes many therapists less confident in advocating for reasonable caseloads or better compensation because they feel they have limited options for earning a living. That's why I invited Rachel Archambault to episode 194 to talk about how state and local policy impacts clinical disciplines and how therapists can expand their career options. Rachel Archambault M.A. CCC-SLP is an award-winning speaker and consultant for trauma-informed care as well as a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP). She collaborates with service providers (SLPs, doctors, PT/OT, etc.), parents, businesses (schools, hospitals, universities, rehab), and communities to incorporate trauma-informed care into their setting. In 2018, Rachel was an SLP at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL when an internationally publicized traumatic event happened at her workplace. After wondering how she could better work with her students (and self) who had undergone trauma, she found trauma-informed care. Her lived experience of trauma in combination with her profession allow her to bridge the gap for SLPs and other service providers who want to learn about and implement trauma-informed care in any setting. Rachel is a neurodivergent SLP, (PTSD & ADHD) and advocates for mental health trainings for SLPs. Rachel uses her unique journey to help put a face to trauma for healthcare providers, parents, and universities. In this conversion, we discuss:✅Negotiating salary for SLPs at the district level and giving public comment. ✅Making a case for districts to hire additional clinicians; including how to show the negative impact of high caseload numbers. ✅How to stay informed and understand how state and local policy impacts your ability to provide quality services. ✅Common knowledge gaps for clinicians; including people management, business operations, sales, marketing, and personal finance.

Applications to become a TFI Advocate are opening in June! Get the details and sign-up to be notified when applications are live right here. Today's conversation made me a little emotional because I never could have imagined what God would do with this ministry when I launched it over a decade ago. I could have never imagined that we would have leaders across the nation who are stepping in and supporting their local foster care community! These Advocates act as a bridge, bringing encouragement and support to agencies by helping churches understand the best way to engage and meet needs contextually. Today, I get the honor of introducing you to a couple of incredible people who are also team members here at The Forgotten Initiative: Jody Vanderburg and Liz Archambault. They serve in the role of Advocate Coaches, helping Advocates navigate the challenges specific to their area and bring their unique experience and personality to the role. We are so grateful to have both of them on our team! In this episode, you'll hear how foster care intersected with each of their lives, what traits make an effective Advocate, the most meaningful parts about supporting local leaders as an Advocate Coach, and so much more! Directed by Louise Archambault, Irena's Vow tells the amazing true story of Irena Gut Opdyke (Sophie Nelisse), a strong-willed, 19-year-old Polish woman who is employed by the Nazis during WWII. Promoted to housekeeper in the home of a highly respected Nazi officer, Irena is advised by the other staff to remain ‘seen and not heard' for her own safety. However, when she discovers that the Jewish ghetto is about to be liquidated, she bravely chooses to shelter twelve Jews in the commandant's basement. Faced with certain death should they (or she) be discovered, Irena remains determined to care for the disenfranchised as the Nazi's swirl around them. In this 1on1, we speak to Archambault about stepping into history and shooting war on an intimate level.
On this very special episode, Eric interviews Louise Archambault & Sophie Nélisse of Irena's Vow.

In front of a live audience at the Convenience Industry Council of Canada's National Summit, I sat down with Jean-François Archambault. JF is a beautiful human being devoting his life to fighting food insecurity. It is also a powerful love story between Mother and Son and how her ten-year unsuccessful battle with cancer took JF to a crossroads, offering two very different paths. The first was to take away his sadness and darkness by ending his life; the second was to do something with it. Thankfully for millions of Canadians, JF chose to dream big and do bigger. Too many Canadians live paycheck-to-paycheck and rely on food banks, social assistance and the generousity of friends and family to survive. JF dreamed of feeding people versus landfills with the massive amount of food wasted in the hospitality sector. JF's story is inspiring and remarkable. He leaves his successful career in hospitality to form La Tablée des Chefs, a non-profit organization whose mission can be summed up in two ways. Feed today to fight against food insecurity and educate youth for tomorrow to develop their food autonomy. What La Tablée des Chefs has done should be studied around the world. In twenty years, they have distributed more than 15 million cooked meals and contributed to the culinary education of more than 50,000 youth by developing their food autonomy through various educational programs. And what JF teaches all of us is following your heart, understanding the fragility of our time, and dreaming and doing is what inspires change. I close the show by offering my three takeaways, why being involved in our community matters, and then talking about a hub called My Money Matters that offers financial advice to help navigate the realities of today. Have Scottie Tissues close at hand and be prepared to cheer for a human who almost said no to his life and is now impacting millions of others. In this episode we WadeOutThere with Archy Archembault from White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Archy started tying trout flies as a youth in his Florida garage before he had ever seen a real trout. He began fly fishing for saltwater fish and bass in his local waters until he fell in love with the mountains and rivers of West Virginia on a whitewater rafting trip with friends. After separating from the Marine Corps, Archy moved to West Virginia to pursue a job as a whitewater raft guide, but when the lodge needed fishing guides, he quickly volunteered and set out to learn the rapids and the fishery, putting clients on fish while navigating whitewater. Today Archy is the head guide for The Greenbrier Resort Hotel in the heart of some of West Virginia's best fly fishing. We discuss introducing newcomers to fly fishing in West Virginia, why Archy loves getting to places that are hard to get to when chasing fish, as well as reading water and presentation techniques for fishing whitewater from a raft. You can learn more about Archy's home waters in West Virginia or schedule a guided trip at:Kate's Mountain Adventures at the Greenbrier.comOr visit him on Instagram at:@archywhitewater1For more fly fishing stories, lessons learned, and artwork check out my blog and online gallery at Wadeoutthere.com

Those of us working in K-12 education interact with students and staff who have experienced trauma whether we're aware of the specific events or not. A lot of people have heard the term “trauma-informed” care, but not everyone knows what it means or how to do it in practice. That's why I wanted to invite Rachel Archambault to episode 115 of the De Facto Leaders podcast to talk about what trauma-informed care is and share how educators and therapists can put it into practice. Rachel Archambault, MA CCC-SLP is an SLP Program Specialist for Broward County Public Schools. After a traumatic event happened at her workplace on 2/14/18, she looked for ways to work with students (and herself) after trauma. She found trauma-informed care and has been presenting nationally to SLPs and other providers on how TIC can be used in their setting. She runs the Instagram account, @PTSD.SLP which discusses TIC from a speech lens.In this conversation, she shares:✅What exactly is trauma-informed care and how can those working in the schools provide a supportive environment for students? ✅What school leaders need to know about being trauma-informed (and why it's not just about the students). ✅How to avoid re-traumatization, including the way you use language or other common triggers to be aware of.✅Mistakes people make (even though they're well-intended) and how you can build trust with students and colleagues who have experienced trauma. You can connect with Rachel on her Instagram account here, her Facebook page here, and on LinkedIn here. Her website (coming soon) is at ptsdslp.com.In this episode, I mentioned my free online training for K-12 therapists who want to offer social and academic support that's evidence-based and neurodiversity-affirming. You can sign up for that free training here.
Rachel Archambault, M.A. CCC-SLP is a nationally recognized speech-language pathologist who specializes in trauma-informed care (TIC). Rachel found TIC after experiencing a traumatic event at work on 2/14/18. She was looking for ways to help her students who had just undergone trauma as well as herself. She realized that not only would this help for those specific students, but that TIC could be applied to any setting, any population, and with any age group. As an SLP, she offers a unique perspective to how trauma-informed care falls under her professional scope of practice as well as for other healthcare professionals and educators.
