In today's fast-paced and competitive business world, it's more important than ever for leaders to take ownership of their success. But what does that really mean? On this episode of the ABQ Business Podcast with host Jason Rigby, we explore the concept of extreme ownership and how it can transform the way we lead our teams and drive success in our businesses. What is Extreme Ownership? At its core, extreme ownership is about taking complete responsibility for our actions and outcomes. It means owning our mistakes, learning from them, and taking the necessary steps to improve and move forward. Extreme ownership requires a mindset shift, from blaming external factors for our failures to taking personal accountability for our results. How Does Extreme Ownership Benefit Leaders? Extreme ownership has the power to transform the way we lead our teams and drive success in our businesses. When leaders take ownership of their actions and outcomes, they inspire their teams to do the same. This creates a culture of accountability and responsibility, where team members are empowered to take ownership of their work and deliver outstanding results. Leaders who embrace extreme ownership also demonstrate a level of vulnerability and transparency that builds trust with their teams. By owning their mistakes and learning from them, they show that they are human and approachable, which makes it easier for team members to approach them with their own challenges and opportunities. How Can Leaders Practice Extreme Ownership? To practice extreme ownership, leaders must first recognize the areas where they can take ownership and make improvements. This may involve identifying areas of weakness in their leadership style or gaps in their team's performance. Leaders must then take action to address these areas, whether it's through personal development, coaching, or implementing new strategies. Another key component of extreme ownership is communication. Leaders must be clear and transparent with their teams about their expectations and the results they are striving for. They must also communicate openly and honestly about their own challenges and successes, and provide feedback and guidance to their teams along the way. In conclusion, extreme ownership is a powerful mindset shift that can transform the way we lead our teams and drive success in our businesses. By taking complete responsibility for our actions and outcomes, we can create a culture of accountability and responsibility that empowers our teams to deliver outstanding results. In Extreme Ownership, Jocko Willink and Leif Babin share hard-hitting, Navy SEAL combat stories that translate into lessons for business and life. Jocko and Leif served together in SEAL Task Unit Bruiser, the most highly decorated Special Operations unit from the war in Iraq. Through those difficult months of sustained combat, Jocko, Leif and their SEAL brothers learned that leadership - at every level - is the most important thing on the battlefield. Now they teach these same leadership principles to companies throughout the business world that want to build their own high-performance, winning teams. Extreme Ownership explains the SEAL leadership concepts crucial to accomplishing the most difficult missions in combat and how to apply them to any group, team, or organization. It provides the reader with Jocko and Leif's formula for success: the mindset and guiding principles that enable SEAL combat units to achieve extraordinary results. When is the right time to move and make a decision? Can I mess up my life by moving too fast? Success many times for our lives stalls over just a few small things we procrastinate on. Today let's learn how to move fast and solve problems effortlessly! Here is the link and info of the book I talked about today! Atomic Habits by James Clear The #1 New York Times bestseller. Over 4 million copies sold! Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results No matter your goals, Atomic Habits offers a proven framework for improving--every day. James Clear, one of the world's leading experts on habit formation, reveals practical strategies that will teach you exactly how to form good habits, break bad ones, and master the tiny behaviors that lead to remarkable results. If you're having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn't you. The problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don't want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change. You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. Here, you'll get a proven system that can take you to new heights. Clear is known for his ability to distill complex topics into simple behaviors that can be easily applied to daily life and work. Here, he draws on the most proven ideas from biology, psychology, and neuroscience to create an easy-to-understand guide for making good habits inevitable and bad habits impossible. Along the way, readers will be inspired and entertained with true stories from Olympic gold medalists, award-winning artists, business leaders, life-saving physicians, and star comedians who have used the science of small habits to master their craft and vault to the top of their field. Learn how to: make time for new habits (even when life gets crazy); overcome a lack of motivation and willpower; design your environment to make success easier; get back on track when you fall off course; ...and much more. Atomic Habits will reshape the way you think about progress and success, and give you the tools and strategies you need to transform your habits--whether you are a team looking to win a championship, an organization hoping to redefine an industry, or simply an individual who wishes to quit smoking, lose weight, reduce stress, or achieve any other goal. Part 2 of this leadership journey with you in an amazing book called One Mission by Chris Fussell here is description from Amazon. Too often, companies end up with teams stuck in their own silos, pursuing goals and metrics in isolation. Their traditional autocratic structures create stability, scalability, and predictability -- but in a world that demands rapid adaptation to a new reality, this traditional model simply doesn't work. In Team of Teams, retired four-star General Stanley McChrystal and former Navy SEAL Chris Fussell made the case for a new organizational model combining the agility, adaptability, and cohesion of a small team with the power and resources of a giant organization. Now, in One Mission, Fussell channels all his experiences, both military and corporate, into powerful strategies for unifying isolated and distrustful teams. This practical guide will help leaders in any field implement the Team of Teams approach to tear down their silos improve collaboration, and avoid turf wars. By committing to one higher mission, organizations develop an overall capability that far exceeds the sum of their parts. From Silicon Valley software giant Intuit to a government agency on the plains of Oklahoma, organizations have used Fussell's methods to unite their people around a single compelling vision, resulting in superior performance. One Mission will help you follow their example to a more agile and resilient future. Hugh Odom is a former AT&T attorney (for over 11 years) and the founder and president of Vertical Consultants, a telecom consulting firm that has provided consulting advice for companies like WalMart and Disney, and governmental institutions like the United States Postal Service; New York Housing Authority; Veteran Affairs; the City of Atlanta and the City of Charlotte. Hugh shared the evolving story of how the telecom industry (services, infrastructure, cell site locations) has and will become more crucial based upon the COVID-19 pandemic and the “new normal” that will result after COVID-19 has run its course. As the founder and President of Vertical Consultants, Hugh wants to demystify not only what is being reported in the news but what is going on behind the scenes inside companies like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Hugh has been an expert to newspapers, podcasts, radio shows, and blogs for years. Topics We Discussed: -- Major telecom industry changes -- The 5G rollout -- The Sprint & T-Mobile Merger -- Wireless usage and connectivity Questions Hugh Odom Answered: -- Is it not more important than ever to have a stable wireless infrastructure due to the COVID-19 surges and the great need to handle emergency services, telemedicine services, and communications for local and federal first responders? -- Do the wireless networks really have the capability to maintain business requirements as tens of millions of people are forced to work from home? -- Should the federal government require companies like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile to set up temporary cell sites (rural and urban) to handle increased wireless network needs? -- Does the COVID-19 pandemic change the outlook of wireless services from a luxury to a utility (much like electric, water, etc) that everyone should have unrestricted access to? -- How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted or, more particularly, expedited the need for the immediate buildout of 5G services throughout the United States? -- What is the potential impact of the Sprint / T-Mobile merger on competition for the wireless industry? -- What do you mean when you say that the cell tower industry is like the oil industry was 100 years ago? Being honest about the reason you’re having issues with your success will put you back on the path of self discipline and hard work. We can help you fight back! Schedule a free business review. When we understand your healthcare needs, we can develop the best plan customized to your needs. For $75 per month plus tax, companies cover 80-90% of their employee's health needs. This model works for all company sizes, from the small employer that can't afford to offer traditional insurance to the larger employers that want to save on self-funded health plans. 1. Employees have decreased claims because seeing us is free. And employees can text their provider. Membership also includes 24/7 telemedicine. This kind of immediate access decreases ER and Urgent Care claims too. 2. We save self-funded companies thousands on medications and labs. We do this bypassing the insurance claims process and paying directly. 3. You keep your employer health insurance benefits in place for the big stuff. We help you save big dollars on the 80-90% of other costs. Health insurance has its place, but its time to evict them from the routine stuff. SMALL COMPANIES: Small companies struggle to offer health insurance. In fact, insurance for small business is nearly impossible. This impacts recruiting and retention efforts. Now you can offer them real healthcare for $75 vs a high cost insurance plan they cant even use most of the time. Book Review "The 10X Rule" by Grant Cardone. Another Influential mentor that has been in my life since 2011 when I was at my lowest and didn't want to live. I ended up getting a sales job and listened day in and day out to Grant and his teachings it literally changed my life. I started to be successful and then this book came out in November of 2011. I consumed it through audible over and over again until I began to change. Upstream Thinking is from a book called Upstream the Quest to Solve Problems Before they Happen. Here is excerpt and bio from this amazing book: New York Times bestselling author Dan Heath explores how to prevent problems before they happen, drawing on insights from hundreds of interviews with unconventional problem solvers. So often in life, we get stuck in a cycle of response. We put out fires. We deal with emergencies. We stay downstream, handling one problem after another, but we never make our way upstream to fix the systems that caused the problems. Cops chase robbers, doctors treat patients with chronic illnesses, and call-center reps address customer complaints. But many crimes, chronic illnesses, and customer complaints are preventable. So why do our efforts skew so heavily toward reaction rather than prevention? Upstream probes the psychological forces that push us downstream—including “problem blindness,” which can leave us oblivious to serious problems in our midst. And Heath introduces us to the thinkers who have overcome these obstacles and scored massive victories by switching to an upstream mindset. One online travel website prevented twenty million customer service calls every year by making some simple tweaks to its booking system. A major urban school district cut its dropout rate in half after it figured out that it could predict which students would drop out—as early as the ninth grade. A European nation almost eliminated teenage alcohol and drug abuse by deliberately changing the nation’s culture. And one EMS system accelerated the emergency-response time of its ambulances by using data to predict where 911 calls would emerge—and forward-deploying its ambulances to stand by in those areas. Upstream delivers practical solutions for preventing problems rather than reacting to them. How many problems in our lives and in society are we tolerating simply because we’ve forgotten that we can fix them? Choose wisely Women friends are cool, don’t try to sleep with them You don’t have to learn everything the hard way One day you’ll need to be forgiven so learn to forgive others Instead of buying your children what you didn’t have, teach them what you didn’t know Never let your inner child die If someone doesn’t treat you as good as a chick fil a employee they don’t deserve to be in your life No one reads mind, speak on how you feel Never feel bad about promoting yourself If you value your time say no to anything that you don’t absolutely want to do Spending time alone is one of the best things you can do Celebrate your accomplishments If you care too much about what other people think, you’re effectively their slave Be so busy improving your life that you don’t have time to criticize others Everyone you love will eventually die, spend your time with your loved ones, keep them close Listen to understand, not to respond Hang out with people from different races, ethnicity and social economic classes You can’t pour from an empty cup, take care of yourself first List was from one of my favorite websites medium.com get it here Please go to www.abqpodcast.com where you can get show notes, resources, and links to everything we talked about today to help you navigate your journey as an entrepreneur and business owner in ABQ. Amazing Inventor Rodney Herrington from Albuquerque. He owns multiple Businesses and is solving a world problem!!! Clean Water! Aqua Research LLC develops innovative water treatment technologies that meet the extreme needs within developing countries and provides sustainable water purification to outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, emergency preppers, first responders, Peace Corps, and the military. Why We Need Sustainable Water Purification Solutions The H2gO Purifier was designed for hikers and campers, travelers, missionaries, Peace Corps volunteers, first responders, disaster relief, and emergency kits. However, our ultimate dream is to provide cost-effective and sustainable water treatment to the people who need it most – those with no access to safe water. Our goal is to help reduce the devastating impact of unsafe water, both physical and financial: 3.3 million people die each year from water-related health problems. [1] Half the hospital beds in the poorest countries are filled with patients with water-related diseases. [2] Women in developing countries walk an average of 3.7 miles to get water, then often carry 50 lbs or more of water on their backs. [1] Poor people living in the slums often pay 5-10 times more for water than wealthy people living in the same city. [3] H2gO is a truly sustainable option for emerging countries, offering no maintenance cost or resupply logistics. The purifier costs $0.50 per YEAR for salt to operate and provide a family 40 liters (10 gallons) of safe water per DAY. It uses a rechargeable cell phone type battery for power and can be recharged by the onboard solar panel or micro USB port – re-charged by just about any cell phone charger, but comes with its own charger. The device is available via retail outlets for about $120 but we discount to qualified non-government organizations (NGOs) to less than $50. Our STREAM system is designed to treat up to 240,000 liters (60,000 gallons per day) for hospitals, orphanages, schools, and small communities in both normal and disaster settings. The STREAM operates on a variety of power sources including 110/220 VAC, and 12 volts DC from a car battery or solar panel. The unit is very robust and comes in a hard plastic waterproof case about the size of a briefcase. Videos of the device are shown on our videos page. By being part of the solution to provide safe water to families in developing nations, we can help people around the world realize their potential: [4] Household water disinfection is the best way to reduce diarrhea and can pay back up to $60 for every $1 invested. Access to safe drinking water and sanitation worldwide would save health agencies $14 billion per year and individuals $680 million. There would be 640 million more productive working days per year, 544 million more school attendance days, and 3 billion more healthy days for children under 5, together representing productivity gains of $19.8 billion a year. About Paws and Stripes: Paws and Stripes was founded in Rio Rancho in 2010 by Lindsey Kay. Lindsey was motivated by her passion for dogs, love of her country and those who have sacrificed so much to protect it. A veteran family member of Lindsey’s suffering from PTSD and TBI motivated her to research multiple organizations, but was unable to pay for service dogs due to the high cost. This inspired the inception of an organization dedicated to providing service dogs at no cost to veterans in order to fill this critical unmet need for veterans. In 2010, Paws and Stripes graduated their first team. By 2012, Paws and Stripes officially integrated a mental health component to its training programs. Since inception almost 10 years ago, Paws and Stripes has served veterans, rescued and rehabilitated shelter dogs as service dogs and refined its mental health programming. In the early days, Paws and Stripes received press and recognition for the unique and much needed programming from Time Magazine, Bark Magazine, Lisa Ling’s Our America, Stephen Colbert's Dream Fund, and Tractor Supply Magazine in addition to presenting internationally in Croatia and nationally in New York and at Yale University. In 2014, A&E's docu-series, Dogs of War, featured 5 episodes about Paws and Stripes. In 2017, Paws and Stripes officially moved into a new facility, a generous donation to further its mission in Albuquerque. How To Donate: You as a business can give here I personally also give through Amazon Smile to Paws and Stripes every purchase you do with Amazon then they will donate to them (and it costs you nothing) read more here Please go to www.abqpodcast.com where you can get show notes, resources ,and links to everything we talked about today to help you navigate your journey as an entrepreneur and business owner in ABQ. The 2nd Agreement Don’t take anything personally - Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering. The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom is a self-help book by bestselling author Don Miguel Ruiz with Janet Mills. The book offers a code of conduct based on ancient Toltec wisdom that advocates freedom from self-limiting beliefs that may cause suffering and limitation in a person's life. About Adam: The Greek philosopher Hericlitus said, “the only constant in life is change.” Flash forward 2500 years, or so, and his sentiment couldn’t ring truer. And in business - as in life - the more fundamental the change, the higher the stakes. Adam Campbell is an organizational development consultant who helps teams and enterprises navigate business transformation (change), including startup growth. With over 25 years’ experience in people- and process-optimization, Adam advocates cultural engagement as the largest influencer (lever) of long-term enterprise value. Conversely, he cites leadership waste as the largest negative lever. In 2016, Adam pivoted out of his 20-year corporate (Fortune 500) career to travel (much) of the world with his wife and kids, including a year living and working abroad in Slovakia, and traveling as much of Europe as possible! At depth, Adam is a lifelong learner and educator with a passion for discovering new places, cultures, and ideas, and a commitment to sharing them with those he serves.
