Although we love diving into a tech topic each week…let's be honest, we really love our BiTs episode! In the first live airing of Brothers in Tech, the Brothers try and impress each other by bringing a couple of tech suggestions, and see how much money they can make each other spend. Not to give it away…but Brian's pics really heat things up, while Alan makes sure we stay organized. Brian's Pics· HX HECLX Mug Warmer ($22): Keep that coffee warm/hot throughout the day with this desk accessory. 3 temperature options, auto shutoff, and digital screen. · Atomi Smart WiFi Ceramic Tower Heater ($120): Space heater with smart features (phone app, schedules, Alexa/Google Home compatible). Alan's Picks· 4-in-1 Multi-Port & Apple Watch Charger ($18): Tired of carrying multiple cables with you when you travel? Four connections in one cable!· Gemini 2 ($45 for one-time purchase, $20/year subscription): Efficiently search for and delete duplicate files from your Mac (or iPhone, for a separate fee).Your Hosts:Alan Jackson (the older Brother) is a producer of online content with Jackson Creative and survey researcher with Jackson Insight.Brian Jackson (the younger Brother) is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology at Pacific University and Consultant at Senaptec, Inc.Have any feedback for the Brothers regarding this topic (or future topics)? Tablets - Android 12L Coming Galaxy S22 Ultra with SPen Galaxy S22 and S22+ Extended Updates Google Samsung Exclusive Features Feedback and Contributions: Jeremy Harpham on his 5G Three Mobile Broadband Trial Finally my area got 5G broadband from Three. I can currently get around 240Mb down and 70Mb up on 4G. The Three offer was £21 p.m. for unlimited data, including the 5G hub over 24 mths. A no-quibble 14 day return was what convinced me to try. My trial lasted 6 hours! Despite trying multiple but limited positions in my study for the router I just couldn't get a consistent connection. I need the router to connect with my wired network so could not try other rooms. The Three hub only supports 24 devices for wi-fi which is useless, but typical. Speed varied from 0Mb both up and down to 210Mb down and 40 up. The up was more variable. Down varied between 40-300Mb. The inconsistency was the killer. I'll try again in a year's time perhaps! Also… Jeremy Harpham on Using streetlights as 5G masts from last week's show. Looks like someone heard you, Ted! Link to an article in the register UK.gov spends £4m on 5G mobile mast lamppost project • The Register Kev Wright on my Ookla Speed Test Question I don't exactly know how to put this into words (or if I am even right!) but I think your mobile internet speed is kinda fixed based on the mast you are on at the time and is variable by a lot of different conditions like distance, and other people on the same mast. I don't think changing the server (even if you could) would matter as that would be overridden by the mast situation. I think the idea of having the ability to change it in Ookla is simply to allow you to get a test result if the default server is down or flooded. John Carson on Rifles feedback Ted's Homework Plugged in the Google TV thingie and it seems completely pointless when a person has a Roku. Regular listeners will remember that I recently interviewed Adobe’s Colin Morris about how voice-based interfaces have suddenly become a significant tool for marketers. But, it’s not just voice: marketers are gravitating both to voice and text-based computer conversation (e.g. chatbots) to engage with customers. PullString is the only company enabling conversations on Amazon Echo, Alexa Google Home, as well as text-based computer conversations on Microsoft’s Skype and Facebook’s Messenger. As these platforms surge in popularity with consumers, PullString is seeing a similar surge in demand from companies that want to build branded chatbot experiences on these platforms. Today's guest is Oren Jacob, and he is the CEO and co founder of Pullstring but also has a very rich history, Steve Jobs and Ed Catmull had personally chosen Oren to lead Pixar’s internal tech team as CTO, where he worked on Toy Story, Toy Story 2, A Bug’s Life, and Finding Nemo.
