POPULARITY
Segment 1: • Compromised Faith: Christians who sympathize with the world's systems reflect “Stockholm Syndrome Christianity,” per John G. West, former professor at Seattle Pacific University. • SPU's Roots: Founded in the Free Methodist system, but compromises have eroded its foundation. • Recurring Patterns: How Christian institutions can drift away from truth when cultural pressures take hold. Segment 2: • Generational Decline: Institutions go from affirming truth, to assuming it, to abandoning it entirely. • Women's Roles: Compromise often begins with shifts in beliefs about women in ministry. • Lessons from SPU: A failure to uphold biblical patterns leads to cultural capitulation—how can we learn from their mistakes? Segment 3: • Everything Matters: Tasks like mowing your lawn reflect anthropology and God's design for creation. • Higher View of Humanity: Even caring for our environment reflects biblical truths about man's stewardship and dominion. • Architecture's Impact: Thoughtful design isn't just aesthetic—it increases productivity and reflects God's order. Segment 4: • A World Gone Mad: THC beer, medicinal marijuana, and the normalization of sin signal a moral decline. • Purity is Allegiance: Virgil Walker argues the fight for purity isn't about repression, but about loyalty to God. • Resources for Growth: Fortis is offering free study guides to equip Christians in their walk of faith. ___ Thanks for listening! Spuštění digitalizace stavebního řízení mělo odšpuntovat novou výstavbu a konečně otevřít bytový trh i těm, kteří si nemohou dovolit bydlet za mnoho desítek tisíc korun měsíčně. Bet kurš tad to izmanto?
Despite the headlines, young adults are still interested in church, says Jeff Keuss. In this episode, he discusses the surprising findings that young adults view churches as vital social change agents and are not opposed to their existence. Instead, they seek meaningful, inclusive, and intellectually engaging communities that address real-world issues and offer genuine care and mentorship. He also explores the concept of "belong, believe, behave" in church life, challenging traditional membership models and advocating for a more inclusive approach that values diverse voices and experiences. He emphasizes the importance of churches as resource centers that prepare individuals for their roles in the world, rather than merely places of worship. The conversation also explores the shifting dynamics of church leadership, the role of gender diversity in fostering healthy communities, and the critical need for mentorship across generations. Dr. Keuss's research offers a hopeful vision for the future of Christianity, one that embraces diversity, open dialogue, and the transformative power of faith. Jeff Keuss, PhD brings over 30 years of leadership and managerial experience in higher education, health care and social services administration both in the US and UK. In his various roles as a Professor, Director of the University Scholars Honors Program as well as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies for Seattle Pacific Seminary within SPU, Jeff continues to be actively engaged in research, fundraising, curriculum coordination, working with external publics such as churches and faith communities, major donor acquisition and retention, administrative recruitment, and annual fund development. His commitment to faith development is seen in his $2.75 million in grant acquisitions as part of a $55 million initiative from the Lilly Endowment for the development of Pivot NW, a non-profit research and support institute seeking to research innovation models for the sake of engaging young adults in innovative social ventures with faith communities. His recent publication Paul Ricoeur and the Hope of Higher Education: The Just University (Rowman & Littlefield, 2020), speaks to his continued to work on the future of higher education as a place of justice and hope for human flourishing alongside a global network of thought leaders in educational innovation. Jeff is an ordained minister of the Word and Sacrament (PCUSA) and served several congregations both in the US and in the Church of Scotland as Assistant Minister of the Glasgow Cathedral. He is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University (BA), Fuller Theological Seminary (MDiv), Harvard University (Masters in I/O Psychology), and the University of Glasgow, Scotland (PhD in Literature, Theology, and the Arts).

Fern Donaghy found theater early in life and came to SPU to study Theatre Education, hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow alum and Roosevelt High School Theatre teacher, Ben Stuart. But when COVID made student teaching more difficult than ever, Fern leaned in to passion for working behind the scenes in wardrobe and costume. Now, only a year and a half out of college, Fern works for Pacific Northwest Ballet, Paramount Theatre, and Climate Pledge Arena dressing for both locals shows and world tours.

Please support me on Patreon Unserem großen Vorbild Buddha nacheifernd meditieren wir!

Please support me on Patreon Diese Meditation ist eher für erfahrene Meditierende geeignet. Setz Dich bequem, geh in Dich. Bemerkst du Unbehagen in dir? Fühlst du Aufregung in dir aufkeimen? Nimmst du Unwohlsein in Dir wahr?

We took a look at three generations of Noel with the long lost Christmas poem by JRR Tolkien written in 1936, the song Cry of a Tiny Babe by Bruce Coburn written in 1990, and a spoken word piece written in 2020 by our own Philip "Sharp Skills" Jacobs. Enjoy these readings by SPU alumni and podcast guests. Merry Christmas!

Cara Wall-Scheffler is a Professor and Co-Chair of Biology at SPU. Her research focuses on the evolution of how men and women differ physically, particularly in the context of balancing body temperature and long-distance locomotion. She has been working on this problem for over 20 years and has published numerous papers along with her students. Her work shows very clearly how different selection pressures have acted on men and women, and that women in particular have a rare ability to work both efficiently and economically when carrying loads. Why is this meaningful for us today? Listen and find out...

Professor Brent Ruby graduated from SPU in ‘89 with a degree in Exercise Science. He now serves as a professor at the University of Montana where his research includes the physical and mental toll fighting wildland fires has on the people who battle these blazes. Being away from loved ones can also weigh on firefighters, which led Ruby to write a children's book called “Wrango and Banjo: On the Fireline,” that tells the story of a canine fire crew battling wildfires, with the goal of helping the children of these heroes better understand the demands of their parents' job.

DTFF: The Volunteer Firefighter Podcast - Down To Fight Fire
E242 - Structure Protection Units and Sprinkler Tactics This week we discuss adding SPU kits to our fleet and how we have been training on deploying them in our coverage area. WHO WE ARE As a group of Rural Volunteer Firefighters, our Fire Department has built our firefighter training from both old and new tactics in the fire service and adapted them to fit the realities of equipment, manpower, and costs around what our community requires. WHAT WE DO We create video, audio and written word content to share these training and tactics methods with our Brothers and Sisters in our extended fire families, and to showcase to those that may be interested in becoming firefighters the fun you can have and the amazing skills and abilities you get to learn, whilst keeping the lives of the people around you safe! WHY WE SHARE Firefighters are problem solvers whose role requires them to be on their best day whilst others are having their worst day, and while we do not claim to be perfect we are willing to put our lives on the line to try. It's during the trying that we continue to develop the mindset, tactics, and training that allow us to be effective, safe and successful where it's needed the most, and by sharing our experiences we hope that it may help other Fire Departments in creating what works for them to help bring everyone home safe. Today, Aquasight's Mahesh Lunani welcomes Andrew Lee, CEO of Seattle Public Utilities. He currently manages about 1,400 employees, and has previously worked in Bellevue, San Franscisco, and various consulting firms.First and foremost to Andrew is a desire to serve people. Yes, in Seattle they service large corporations like Microsoft and Amazon, but Andrew takes pride in serving the most vulnerable and underserved communities. This means more than infrastructure - it also means wealth building and jobs. Today's guest works at the intersection of service, faith, and engineering and technical skills.Overall, SPU provides water to 1.5 million people and drainage/wastewater servivces to abourt 800,000 on an annual budget of $1.4 billion. While investments in the future are primarily driven by regulatory compliance and asset management, SPU is also looking at improvements for frontline workers, and even AI -which Andrew sees as a tool to be implemented, not feared. And it can be used to educate customers.Andrew believes in partnering with residents and customers. Cutting down on waste can be helped by reducing consumption. In fact, SPU's vision statement is "community-centered, one water, zero waste." Public perception often focuses on rates. But when customers are invited in to see all the work Seattle Public Utilities are doing, the focus often shifts from rates to awe, with regard to everything SPU is tackling.Andrew wants to battle the "silver tsunami" in our industry by promoting the purpose of jobs in the water sector, as well as reaching out to underserved communities with job opportunities. In fact, he wants his legacy to be turning the tide of long-held practices and policies that have disavantaged certain communities.More:Seattle Publc Utilities website: https://www.seattle.gov/utilities/Aquasight Website: https://aquasight.io/
