Hey there, zany ones! Professor Alan isback, and we're talking more Cave Carson! These issues we've covered have the illustrious Bob Haney scripting, so of course I'm up for them! Seriously though, the concept behind this character/team is a lot of fun, and definitely worth checking out. Plus, if you haven't heard, Professor Alan has ended one of his long running podcasts, but added a new one, so definitely look him up on social media and give his shows a listen! As usual, if you'd like to leave any feedback you can do so through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the show's FB page (I'm also on BlueSky @docstrange.bsky.social). You can find Alan on Twitter @Relatively_Geek or at his blog relativelygeekypodcast.blogspot.com and on any reputable podcast app! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/magsnmonsters/message
Hey there, cave dwellers! It's time for another edition of The Brave and the Bob! Professor Alan has stopped by whilst on his summer break to talk crazy comics! We have great time talking about a first read for me, in Cave Carson! This character was a blind spot for me, but the Prof enlightens me (and possibly you!) about this character and his team. From time to time, you may catch us drooling over the artwork of one Joe Kubert, but not to worry, you'll have a good time, guaranteed. If you'd like to leave any feedback for the show, you can do so through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the show's FB or Tumblr pages. You can find Professor Alan on Twitter @relatively_geek or on his FB page (just search for Relatively Geeky podcast). It's another long one, but is that because there were a lot of books, or was Jim just hung up on yelling? Little bit from column A, a little bit from column B it seems. ITEM TFW you beam down from thespaceship (in space) feeling real, real good! If you knew the things I knew, dear participant… ITEM Iiiiiiiit’s a bobsy week on Silence #214 but don’t worry it’s still quite good, he wrote, a little drunk and quite pass-agg. ITEM The lads Gary and Batlow piss about for a bit before they enter the reviewniverse (where conditions are ferocious), and in the process cover the all-important Sponsorshibboleths, the Lego Batman movie, #dredducation and a perhaps too in-depth look at the bob’s feels about the recorded long player music album called BATMAN by the prince of a place called Prince. ITEM And that goes on for a little bit too long if we’re honest, or maybe he’s edited it, (I don’t know. I’m on a train, as the boy Cobain might have said, also mentioned in this epppppisode) ITEM But then yeah eventually we get to the reviewniverse where everybody’s talkin’ about (in no good order) Wildstorm, Cave Carson, CIABatman, Nazi Captain America, Ultimates 2, Doctor Strange, Batwoman Rebirth, Green Lanterns, Old Man Logan, Dad’s Weekend (good), and Punisherment (RIP Steve D).
Hey kids! Thanks for stopping by. We have a super fun show ahead of us this week. We start off with a quick story about The Flea Market and then we move onto At The Movies where we talk on a movie I saw awhile back called Edge Of Seventeen. I thought it was terrific and that it had an interesting moral lesson. After that it's all Cave Carson all the time! It's a real fun and informative piece about one of my favorite off the wall DC Comic Characters! He's recently made a big comeback and we get into that as well as his long and rich past. It's a ton of fun! Make sure to hop on over to Support The Report and check out how you can get the ISR Supertape VHS Tape! While helping to support the show. Man, we need all the help that we can get. Also hop on over to VirtualDirtmall.com The ISR Superstore and take care of some of your Retro Junk Shopping needs while also supporting The Toys R Us Report.
Levins and Siobhan tear into last week's books from Marvel, DC, Image and more - including a bunch of books featuring Jack Kirby, one book featuring prostitutes and one book featuring the teaching of book of James, as told by an Australian Christian dude in the 90s that some old lady gave Levins in a food court earlier today. We've got all the bases covered! Comics reviewed in this episode: Archie #16 Avengers #3.1 Batman #15 Black Hammer Giant Sized Annual Black Panther World of Wakanda #3 Black Road #6 Black Widow #10 Cage #4 Captain America Sam Wilson #18 Cave Carson #4 Clone Conspiracy #4 Curse Words #1 Descender #18 Divinity III Aric #1 The Few #1 Gamora #2 Hookjaw #2 Invincible Iron Man #3 Justice League of America The Ray #1 Justice League Suicide Squad #5 Kill Or Be Killed #5 Manifest Destiny #25 Mighty Captain Marvel #1 Monsters Unleashed #1 Motor Girl #3 Nightwing #13 Patsy Walker aka Hellcat #14 Rockstars #2 Slam #3 Star Wars Doctor Aphra #3 Star-Lord #2 Superman #15 They’re Not Like Us #13 Ultimates 2 #3 Uncanny Inhumans #18 US Avengers #2 Venom #3 WWE #1 – Serious Issues is a weekly comic book review podcast, hosted by Andrew Levins and Siobhan Coombs at Kings Comics in Sydney. We like the winter it brings us closer together ITEM Its chilly out here, the lonely unknown beeps moaning from the metal leviathans moored in the space harbour. The space fog hugs the floor, and the space train is minutes off yet. You write a podcast blurb. ITEM Hello! Welcome to Silence a million. It might be the most important Silence yet: ITEM The Beast Must Die is a-way, doing … not very much at all, at all. You’ll soon see. So in his place moody young Bobsy joins Gary up there on the space ship in space, come to talk about comics. ITEM The Space God and his Paranoiac Pal whip through a little bit of admin and sponsorshizzle before getting into the meats, discussing not-a-comics Lazarus and Green Room and then are-a-comics Old Skool Avengers, USAvengers, Cave Carson has a Cybernertic Eye, Monsters Unleashead, Knightsend, Black Hammer annual, Curse Words, Ultimates 2, Wolverine and perhaps some others. ITEM In a brand new segment called Book Look bobsy discovers a picture with no words (!!!!!????) called Piss Cameron. He likes it, it is good. @silencepod @frasergeesin @thebeastmustdie @bobsymindless @theQuietusFilm silencepodcast@gmail.com You can support us using Patreon if you like.

They begin with Gerard Way and Nick Derington's Doom Patrol, the maiden voyage of the new imprint. There have been three issues released so far, and the guys really like what they've seen. Way definitely takes a cue from Grant Morrison's legendary run on the title, referencing many of Morrison's original additions to the Silver Age series -- most notably Danny the Street and Flex Mentallo -- yet at the same time making Doom Patrol uniquely his own. After that, Andy and Derek discuss the first four issues of Shade the Changing Girl. This is Cecil Castellucci and Marley Zarcone's revamping of the old Steve Ditko creation (and best popularized in the early 1990s by Peter Milligan and Chris Bachelor), Shade the Changing Man. Their emphasis on the lives of young high school women promises to be a curious spin on the property. Next, the guys turn to what Andy calls his favorite of the Young Animal line, Jonathan Rivera, Gerard Way, and Michael Avon Oeming's Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye. As they point out, Cave Carson is a character from the early 1960s appearing in both Brave and the Bold and Showcase, but unlike his contemporary Rip Hunter, he never received a title of his own. Way, Rivera, and Oeming are now giving him that opportunity. The Two Guys conclude their episode with a very different kind of Young Animal title, Jody Houser and Tommy Lee Edwards's Mother Panic. This is the only one of the four series not to be based on Silver Age properties, and it's the only one to be deeply enmeshed into the DC Universe. For that reason, Derek is less enamored with Mother Panic -- at least in terms of the first two issues so far -- feeling that it takes itself too seriously and wonders why this wasn't a regular DC title. Andy has no problem with this Gotham-drenched series.

Jim and Eric get together for a little fun and games and of course, some DC Comics. Actually, instead of "some", they give you "all" and that includes Regiie and Chris dropping knowledge bombs on Cave Carson and Brandon showing he knows his He-Man, but can't quite get enough juice for his daughter! The show also has segments from Christian (Salty Playground) and Ben (Nerd Church Radio) as well as a new segment from Toby (42 Shades of Geek) and the usual listener mails and rant and raves. Happy Halloween! For a special treat, Jay and Mike recommend you read "Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love" and "Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye." Then, for your... treat, I guess? Anyway, it's a Halloween tradition, so we're talking about "Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness." Because of COURSE that's a crossover that happened immediately after the Marvel Zombies were introduced. Finally, we play "Would You Rather," and ask who you would rather spend Halloween with... Doctor Strange, or Hellboy? Pull List: Jay: “Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love" (DC Comics), written by Sarah Vaughn, art by Lan Medina. Mike: “Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye" (DC Comics), written by Jon Rivera, Tom Scioli, and Gerard Way, art by Michael Avon Oeming and Tom Scioli. Main Segment: “Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness" (Marvel Comics), written by John Layman, art by Fabiano Neves, Fernando Blanco, and Sean Phillips.
