“Aim for emotional wholeness. When you're upset or feeling sick, try to get to the bottom of your feelings. Figure out what's really eating you. Always tell the truth to yourself. Find appropriate, satisfying ways to express your emotions. And if such a prescription seems too challenging, seek professional help to feel better." ~ Candance Pert, PhD Guest Introduction: Hello and welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life, a podcast for women with a big heart on a spiritual journey. I'm your host Cindy MacMillan and I'm joined today by Deyna Phillips. Today we are chatting about emotions and anxiety. What are emotions and the possible root causes for anxiety? Each week, I interview coaches and spiritual explorers from all walks of life about beginnings, endings and the messy bits in-between. Self-love, well-being, and mindset are at the heart of our conversations because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well. It is my great pleasure to introduce Deyna Phillips. Deyna is a Master Emotional Wellness Coach specializing in anxiety and emotional flow mastery. She is a Certified Health & Life Coach, Certified Anger Management Specialist, and Domestic Violence Specialist. Deyna works with people throughout the country helping them embrace their anxiety and emotions so they can feel confident and empowered to live life by their own design! Here's a glimpse of our conversation: Deyna, I am thrilled you are here and I am so looking forward to today's conversation. Thank you so much for being here today. 8:37 Let's define what anxiety is before we get to the causes, right? So, anxiety is an emotion along with a memory that got stored in our part of our brain called the amygdala. And it's stored there. And what it does is that it just really wants to keep us safe. So, it'll continue to run almost like a, like an anti-virus in our memory bank, right. 9:45 What ends up happening is that it will manifest itself again in different types of anxiety. So, there are five usual different types of anxieties, PTSD, OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic, Panic Attacks. And so, what we end up doing is that, depending on the trauma itself, it'll fall into one of those types of anxiety. 13:25 I want you to just look around you right now and tell me five things that you can see. And then you would look around and you would tell me, I see you know, all the things. Now four things that you can hear. Now, that's going to require you sitting quietly and paying attention to what's going on around you. Three things that you can touch, two things that you can smell, one thing that you can taste, the unconscious mind, which is where the anxiety is, is very sensory based, and it can't handle both jobs at the same time. So what we're doing is we're literally giving the mind a brand new assignment, I'm switching it over from the panic of what was happening here to now this job, which again, the mind is very sensory based. So it's going to be quiet and listen to what's happening around looking for the textures, looking for certain things. And now focus on that. 15:03 When you first asked me this question, I thought this was such a beautiful question. I love exploring the seasons of life because my approach, not just to business, but to life itself is, really being like nature and being like a tree. And I use this example so much with my clients, you know, I learned to start practicing detachment. And detachment really for me is the seasons of life. Because, you know, Nature doesn't get attached to every season that happens. 22:47 For example, one of my core needs is love and love, can be looked at as connection, affection, understanding, empathy, things like that. So, when I say love, my definition of love might be super different than your definition of love. 30:36 Anxiety, emotions are healthy, and you can use them as your superpower. And once you learn how to give yourself permission, you will literally create a completely different life for yourself. A life that is confident and empowered, and the life that you deserve. So please embrace your anxiety and embrace your emotions? Because you are beautiful. Born in Vidalia Georgia, Ericka Blount began pursuing greatness from the start. Her hard work and dedication earned her two full athletic scholarships to Savannah State University for both basketball and volleyball which allowed her to pursue her degrees in biology and chemistry. Blount chose Houston, Texas to begin expanding her reach. It was in Texas that Blount received her vision for her holistic wine company, which she entitled “Blount Wine Therapy”. Much like the creator, this unique wine is “Georgia born, and Texas made”, and using local agricultural products, she creates Artisan wines and honey-based meads that offer health benefits to enhance the social and emotional experience of each consumer and create safe spaces for healing and therapeutic conversations. Blount Wine Therapy has most recently been awarded Wine of Distinction for 2022 by the #1 US News Ranked Black Wine Club and Festival; Black Vines- Oakland, California. Her passion to connect and serve people has been made evident time and time again but is most easily seen in how she continues to serve as a mentor to children and young adults across the country. Blount currently serves as a High School Counselor, in which she has 23 years experience. Blount was nominated for 2 consecutive years for Who's Who Among America's Teacher Award. She is a certified Grief Counselor, as well as a Certified Anger Management Specialist. Blount is the Regional Educational & Mental Health Director for the Greater Faith Leadership Conference, and she also has a consulting firm Distinction Management Group partnered with the Center for Innovation at Savannah State University.
A significant portion of the U.S. population lives in areas lacking mental-health workers. Residents of underserved areas have roughly a quarter of the providers they need, in aggregate, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation says. Additionally, more than 150 million people live in federally designated mental health professional shortage areas. The global pandemic has exacerbated this shortage by accelerating the departure of tenured therapists, combined with the lack of entrants into the field, particularly in rural communities and communities of color. Dr. Tara Miller, Ph.D., is a Licensed Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor, Certified Professional Counseling Supervisor, Board Certified Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinician, and Certified Anger Management Specialist in her hometown, a city with a population of 5,000. She is also a business owner, the leader of a non-profit, and a member of the city council. Dr. Miller believes that approaches to mental health should be customized based on the person. Dr. Miller believes cookie-cutter approaches are ineffective and can signal potential “compassion fatigue” or burnout for the clinician. To avoid this challenge, her non-profit “Choose You 365” focuses on encouraging each person to put themselves first and attend to the “self-fullness” necessary to be effective in helping professions. https://chooseu365.org/

This is in motion picture and in living color, totaling to 14 thousand images by the end of the year. Much of it will be branded in their brains for for the duration of their lives—and that's if they shut off the line of visual sewage immediately. He has been married 39 years, and he and his wife have two children and seven grandchildren. How Easy Access to Pornography Affects Teens In American Culture Arguably, there may be no greater scourge on our teen population than pornography. It seems to be so entrenched in every area of life that—even for our younger kids—there just seems to be no escaping it these days. The proliferation of this stuff only fuels the addictive nature of it. Being a teenager growing up in America today is like being an alcoholic and having every drinking fountain, soda machine, river, pond, and lake stocked with Budweiser or Jack Daniels instead of water. Madison Avenue uses skin to sell everything from clothing to hamburgers and from cologne to cars. It's in the music, movies, TV, and social media that our kids consume. If all that isn't enough, our kids have been desensitized to it to the point that they produce their own amateur pornography on their smartphones—addictive devices that teens shouldn't have in the first place, by the way. As most of us know, this descent into lasciviousness has now become a way of life for so many of our young people today. What many of us may not know is that it's destroying our kids' ability to truly enjoy a genuine and intimate relationship with a future spouse that is based on the love, truth, and the commitment required for a legitimate and lasting marriage as God has ordained it. Pornography has got a whole lot to do with why so many marriages aren't making it today. And, of course, when marriage is attacked, so goes the downfall of any civil society. We're “sure as shooting” seeing that happening here in America as we speak. Today, Kevin Kurtz and I discuss the how pornography negatively affects teens as we cover the following topics: Why is pornography such a big deal? Hasn't it been around since the dawn of time? How does pornography affect the brain of my teen? The root of your child's pornography habits may begin with tolerance. Why you must be approachable in communicating on the topic of pornography. How desensitisation can affect marriage. The difference between your brain and your teen's brain. How to be aware of signs that indicate your teen is accessing pornography. Should I discipline my child if they are accessing pornography? Picture provided by: pxhere.com

Todd Stumbo comes from a good family. But as he made his way through life, he found himself struggling with emotional emptiness and a lack of connection, which led to a fight for his life with addiction.Through his own journey and struggles, Todd fought his way through the ups and downs of addiction, recovery, fatherhood, marriage, and business. He also later found out that he possessed a deep passion to help others, which eventually led him to work with others in recovery. Today, Todd has worked in the field of addiction treatment for over ten years. He is currently CEO at Blue Ridge Mountain in Georgia. Todd is a Certified Addiction Counselor, Certified Anger Management Specialist, and Relapse Prevention Specialist. Todd also brings personal recovery experience to his clinical leadership, and is an avid sportsman. His passion for his recovery and for his daughters shines through in our conversation. When I first met Todd, I could tell he was a solid dude right away. He had a firm handshake, was soft spoken, and looked me in the eye. I think its safe to say that Todd is a mans man, but he is not afraid to show vulnerability or emotion. We had a great conversation, and I was honored to have met Todd and help share some of his story.
