In a world filled with distraction, busyness, and surface-level interaction, many adults and students are struggling to form meaningful relationships. In this episode of BaseCamp Live, Davies Owens sits down with Dirk Bellamy to discuss the growing loneliness crisis and why friendship is becoming one of the greatest challenges of modern life. Drawing from his own experience of realizing he had virtually no close friendships, Dirk shares the practical and deeply personal journey that led him to write his book, Why We Ask. Together, they explore: Why proximity is not the same as connection The difference between acquaintances, friends, and close friendships How asking better questions transforms relationships Why intentionality matters in building community How parents can help children develop friendship skills The connection between friendship, meaning, and authentic belonging Why curiosity and humility are essential for healthy relationships This conversation offers practical encouragement for parents, educators, and anyone longing for deeper connection in an increasingly disconnected culture.

Josh Mann and associate editor Adam Wittenberg examine the latest developments in the Iran conflict. They discuss President Trump's extension of the ceasefire, the ongoing U.S. blockade, red lines on nuclear weapons, and questions about who holds power in Iran. Chris Stigall and Dr. Josh Mann break down the week's top stories from The Lion. They discuss the GOP's winter meetings in Doral—strategy sessions, policy planning, and media access amid midterm preparations—while noting media antagonism toward conservatives. The conversation covers affordability challenges, gas price spikes from the Iran conflict, and the uphill climb for Republicans despite a still-solid MAGA base. They examine Democratic obstruction on DHS funding, infighting on the right (Tucker Carlson, Meghan Kelly, JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, Joe Kent resignation), and the New York Times report on Cesar Chavez's alleged sexual abuse and grooming. The episode closes with "Faith and Freedom 250," honoring the Four Chaplains' WWII sacrifice as a timeless example of interfaith courage and service.00:00:00 - Introduction and Week Preview00:00:27 - GOP Winter Meetings in Doral00:01:33 - Media Presence and Antagonism00:04:29 - JD Vance Stump and Kitchen Table Issues00:05:46 - Affordability and Midterm Outlook00:06:43 - Trump Engagement in Midterms00:07:13 - MAGA Base Polling and Enthusiasm Gap00:08:30 - Democratic Obstruction and Radical Agenda00:09:56 - Infighting on Right and Iran Views00:11:10 - Democratic Popularity and Leadership Void00:12:20 - Trump Candor on Iran and Gas Prices00:13:04 - Situation Room Energy Focus00:14:53 - Joe Kent Resignation and Media Amplification00:16:23 - Tucker/Meghan Caution on War00:18:28 - Cesar Chavez Abuse Allegations00:20:35 - Missouri Income Tax Elimination Push00:25:30 - Faith and Freedom 250 Follow The Lion on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. It's Monday, March 16th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus 400 Christians murdered in Congo in one year Christians are being attacked, murdered, and abducted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo every week, and the violence appears to be worse than ever, reports International Christian Concern. Between July 1, 2024 and July 1, 2025, the Institute for International Religious Freedom reported that nearly 400 Christians were murdered in the African nation of Congo. And this is only a fraction of the total violence being perpetrated. Rebel militias have gained vast influence over the Christian-majority nation due to extremist Islamist ideologies, years-long civil wars, and political upheaval. According to Open Doors, Congo is the 29th most oppressive country worldwide for Christians. The persecuted Christians in Congo are no doubt praying Psalm 91 which says, “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.' Surely, He will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. … You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day. … A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.” (verses 2,3,5, 7-8) Missile strikes U.S. Embassy in Iraq A missile has struck a helipad inside the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq as President Donald Trump's war on Iran heads into its third week, reports The Daily Mail. Plumes of smoke were seen above the U.S. embassy in the Iraqi capital. The missile landed within the embassy's boundaries. Pentagon sending assault ship & 2,500 Marines toward Iran The Pentagon is deploying the U.S.S. Tripoli and 2,500 Marines to the Middle East after President Trump vowed Friday to unleash “unparalleled firepower,” reports the New York Post. On Friday morning, War Secretary Pete Hegseth gave this overview. HEGSETH: “With every passing hour, we know, and we know they know, that the military capabilities of their evil regime are crumbling. They can barely communicate, let alone coordinate. They're confused, and we know it. Our response? We will keep pressing. We will keep pushing, keep advancing. No quarter, no mercy for our enemies.” Iran's blocking Strait of Hormuz leading to global oil price spike The deployment of the amphibious assault ship comes as the American military admits it's currently unable to break Iranian influence over the vital Strait of Hormuz as global oil prices spike. The Strait of Hormuz is located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It provides the only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean and is one of the world's most strategically important choke points. The expected two-week voyage from East Asia matches Energy Secretary Chris Wright's prediction of reopening the crucial waterway “by the end of the month.” Secretary Hegseth was perturbed by a CNN report that Iran's stranglehold of the Strait of Hormuz was a surprise. HEGSETH: “More fake news from CNN. Reports that the ‘Trump administration underestimated the Iran war's impact on the Strait of Hormuz.' “Patently ridiculous, of course! For decades, Iran has threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This is always what they do: Hold the Strait hostage. CNN doesn't think we thought of that. It's a fundamentally unserious report.” Idaho House urges Supreme Court to invalidate homosexual “marriage” The Idaho House of Representatives has voted to reject the Supreme Court's 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges and urged the justices to reconsider the decision legalizing homosexual marriage nationwide, reports the Herzog Foundation. Lawmakers approved House Joint Memorial 17 last Tuesday in a 44-26 vote. All Democrats voted against the measure, and a small number of Republicans joined them. The resolution now heads to the Idaho Senate. The memorial states the Legislature “rejects the Obergefell decision” and “calls upon the Supreme Court of the United States to reverse Obergefell and restore the natural definition of marriage.” Supporters say the 2015 ruling overrode the authority of states and ignored the will of voters who had already defined marriage in state law. The resolution says Obergefell “is at odds with the Constitution of the United States and the principles upon which the United States is established.” It also says the ruling “arbitrarily and unjustly” cast aside the historic understanding of marriage, which “has been recognized as the union of one man and one woman for more than 2,000 years.” Idaho Republican State Rep. Tony Wisniewski sponsored the memorial. He said supporters oppose “the debasing of the term of marriage to that of something that is abhorrent to many of us.” The memorial also points to Idaho voters' earlier decision on the issue. In 2006, 63% of voters approved Amendment 2, which added language to the state Constitution defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Supporters argue the Supreme Court brushed aside that vote when it issued the Obergefell ruling. The resolution also states the decision “may have been illegitimately adjudicated” because two justices in the majority, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan, had previously officiated homosexual weddings and did not recuse themselves. The memorial now moves to the Idaho Senate. The governor does not play a role because joint memorials do not require a signature. “Educated for Liberty” film urges Christian parents to wake up And finally, the rise of government-controlled schools and secular education has produced a decline of moral and academic excellence, which has led to a loss of liberty, reports The Providence Foundation. Schools have become progressively dangerous. Some of the most negative influences that young Americans can face today are found in public schools. Exposure to drugs, assault, rape, and murder are becoming more and more common. Radical transgender and homosexual ideology is promoted in classrooms, and reinforced by biological males having access to girls' restrooms and being allowed to compete in girls' sports. Well, there's a new Christian documentary out entitled Educated for Liberty. It urges Christian parents to pull their kids out of public schools and homeschool them or place them in private Christian schools instead. DAVID BARTON: “If you can't think biblically, then what you have is a bunch of secular-thinking people who attend church which will never change a community in the right direction.” RHONDA THOMAS: “We're not, as a church, raising up parents that understand their responsibility in the education of their children.” CAROL SWAIN: “Sunday School is fine. It's good. Vacation Bible School: Fine and good, but it's not enough.” CAROLE ADAMS: “Education is discipleship -- one way or another. Discipling our children in a secularized society, or it's discipling them to Christ.” CASEY GORDON: “How could you possibly segregate the concept of education from the duty and responsibility of the Christian faith, and that they should be trained in the Christian faith and in a Christian way?” ALEX NEWMAN: “For hundreds of years in this country, the Bible was the essential book. It was the foundation of everything. And yet, here we are where it's actually controversial that we should have the Bible in education. It's truly astounding.” MRS. SAM SORBO: “Give your children the Bible, and you give them an understanding of God, which is education. Then the world will become clear to them, and they'll be world changers.” Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Watch the film, Educated for Liberty, for free through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. Chris Stigall brings exclusive conversations from Washington, D.C. First, FDA Deputy Commissioner Kyle Diamantis discusses the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement's momentum on food quality. He credits Secretary Kennedy for elevating issues like food dyes, ultra-processed foods (70% of kids' calories), and the flipped Dietary Guidelines promoting real, whole foods—impacting school meals, SNAP, and $400 million daily federal nutrition spending. Diamantis addresses glyphosate frustrations as part of a non-linear progress toward regenerative farming, while noting industry responsiveness to consumer demand and the protein marketing boom. Then, Congressman Derrick Van Orden previews Trump's State of the Union focus on patriotism and accomplishments (tax cuts, no tax on Social Security/tips/overtime, family farm protections). He explains soaring beef prices due to the New World screw worm parasite (border closed to Mexican feeder cattle imports for protection), the need for small family farms, and upcoming Farm Bill changes for intrastate meat marketing.A deep dive into health policy, rural America, and economic realities.00:00:00 - Introduction00:00:37 - Kyle Diamantis on MAHA & Food Moment00:01:28 - Passion for Food Quality00:03:03 - Flipped Dietary Guidelines00:04:36 - Ultra-Processed Foods Crisis00:05:13 - Europe vs. U.S. Food Spending00:06:16 - Post-WWII Shelf Stability Origins00:07:44 - Food Dyes & Industry Response00:08:35 - Protein Boom in Marketing00:09:51 - Glyphosate Discussion00:11:56 - Derrick Van Orden Interview00:13:14 - Tax Wins and Family Benefits00:14:33 - Rural America & Family Farms00:15:05 - Supply Issues & Small Producers00:16:02 - Screw Worm Threat00:17:24 - Border Closure Explanation00:18:56 - Voter ID Broad Support00:20:36 - On The Filibuster00:21:46 - Frustrations of Congress00:25:30 - Faith and Freedom 250Follow The Lion on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. In this episode of BaseCamp Live, host Davies Owens sits down with Paul Laywell, founder of Eureka Science Education, to tackle a lingering stereotype - classical Christian schools love great books, but struggle to do science with the same depth and rigor. Paul shares his journey from public school teaching to becoming a “one man science department” in a classical Christian school, and why he became convinced that science is one of the most integratable disciplines. Not by forcing a Bible verse onto every lesson, and not by stripping science down to formulas and memorization, but by teaching science as a story, with real people, real ideas, and real consequences. You will hear why Paul jettisoned most textbooks, how he uses history and philosophy to strengthen scientific understanding, and why families do not need to fear that a classical approach will “hurt” students headed for medicine, engineering, or other STEM-adjacent careers. In fact, Paul argues that what universities and employers need most are students who can think, reason, and ask good questions.
From Capitol Hill ahead of President Trump's State of the Union, Chris Stigall interviews 23-year-old YouTube sensation Nick Shirley, whose viral videos on alleged massive fraud in Minneapolis (including Somali-run daycares and autism programs) have sparked investigations and worldwide attention. Nick shares his journey from church mission trips and self-funded content to confronting threats, facing security needs, and shaking hands with Trump at the White House. He discusses youth frustrations with affordability, college debt, Epstein file delays, and his faith-driven motivation to expose corruption in immigration, fentanyl, and welfare fraud. The next morning at the White House, Chris talks with CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz about lowering prescription drug prices via TrumpRx.gov (now offering deals on dozens of meds at global lows), flipping the food pyramid for healthier eating, cracking down on fraud in Medicaid/Medicare (including Minnesota scandals), glyphosate concerns with regenerative farming investments, and using AI to combat waste while empowering patients.A timely look at digital influence, health policy, and accountability.00:00:00 - Introduction00:00:25 - Nick Shirley Interview Setup00:00:44 - Nick's Rise and Viral Fame00:01:30 - Pre-Fraud Work and Global Reporting00:03:01 - Trump Encounter and White House Briefing00:03:29 - Youth Views on Trump and Epstein Files00:05:29 - Self-Funding and Independence00:06:29 - Faith and Drive to Expose Issues00:07:14 - Immigration's Impact on Housing00:08:07 - Young People's Frustrations00:08:49 - Threats and Security00:11:05 - Dr. Oz at White House00:11:51 - Food Pyramid and Healthy Eating Push00:13:51 - Glyphosate and Farming Concerns00:18:31 - Fraud Crackdown in Medicaid/Medicare00:21:25 - AI in Health Care and Patient Tools00:24:03 - TrumpRx Drug Price Wins00:25:30 - Faith and Freedom 250Follow The Lion on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Students today need to be deeply formed to love what is true and beautiful, and they also need practical skills and confidence that comes from real life experiences they can carry into college, career, and beyond. In this episode of BaseCamp Live, Davies Owens sits down with Mitchell Slater, founder and CEO of Slater Strategies, to talk about entrepreneurship, risk, and why many students are not being prepared for real life as well as they could be.Mitchell shares his story of growing up homeschooled in Alaska, learning hard work through real responsibilities, and starting his first business at 17 because his parents gave him room to try and learn. Together, they unpack why failure is such a powerful teacher, why our culture fears it, and how schools can create safe environments for students to practice real-world problem solving. They also dive into Mitchell's SMT program, which trains a small team of students to help tell their school's story through marketing, communication, and community engagement, without handing students unrestricted tech or social media access.
In this week's edition of The Lion Week in Review, Chris Stigall and Dr. Josh Mann break down the top stories shaping culture, policy, and faith. They highlight the White House launch of TrumpRx.gov, a new platform delivering lower prescription drug prices through most-favored-nation deals with pharmaceutical companies—bringing U.S. costs in line with global rates and marking a major win for American patients. The discussion turns to a tragic mass shooting in British Columbia by an 18-year-old transgender individual, examining patterns of mental health struggles and gender dysphoria in recent violent incidents, while noting a shift toward common-sense medical views on youth transitions. They also cover the SAVE Act's momentum after House passage, requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration and ID at the polls—a broadly popular measure now headed to the Senate. Chris Stigall and Dr. Josh Mann examine major shifts in media and policy this week. They discuss mass layoffs at legacy outlets like The Washington Post, amid optimism for conservative voices gaining ground—especially in opinion sections—and a new generation of journalists emerging from places like Hillsdale College with constitutional and independent-minded training. What is a good teacher? Most of us can name a teacher who made a lasting impact, not just through information, but through formation, awakening curiosity, shaping understanding, and building confidence. In this BaseCamp Live episode, host Davies Owens sits down with classical educator and mentor Carrie Eben, co-author of The Good Teacher: 10 Pedagogical Principles That Will Transform Your Teaching, to explore the often-overlooked piece of classical Christian education, how we teach, not only what we teach.Carrie has spent more than 25 years serving in classical education across schools and homeschooling. She is a founding board member at Sager Classical Academy in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and a head mentor for the Searcy Institute Master Teacher Apprenticeship in the Ozark Mountain region. Together, Davies and Carrie discuss why classical schools must often “make” teachers through mentorship and apprenticeship, and why pedagogy matters because the teacher is not merely delivering content, the teacher is shaping the classroom culture and the student's loves. The conversation centers on two foundational principles that set the rhythm for great teaching:Festina Lente, “make haste slowly,” a reminder that learning cannot be rushed. Wonder, contemplation, repetition, and embodied learning take time, and growth happens step by step.Carrie also turns to the importance of assessment, explaining that it should align with the purpose of education and the nature of the student, not simply a score. She highlights relational approaches like narrative assessment, and practical options like narration, oral work, debates, and live demonstrations of understanding, especially in a world navigating new pressures like AI.
