Darcy Van Poelgeest chats with True North Country Comics Podcast about the collection of 'Precious Metal' from Image Comics. The post Darcy Van Poelgeest gets ready for ‘Precious Metal’ appeared first on True North Country Comics.
Welcome to the twenty-third episode of Best Issue Ever! This week we're talking to Corinne Halbert, who rocks! She's best-known for the collection ACID NUN, and is currently releasing a follow-up titled Scorpio Venus Rising. She has a great shop on her page with a ton of prints and enamel pins, so check it out! Corinne brings us Precious Metal #1, which is written by Darcy Van Poelgeest, with art by Ian Bertram and Matt Hollingsworth, and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. This podcast is recorded in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is edited by Sara Century. The theme music is provided by Earth Control Pill, whose work is on Bandcamp. I do not want to deal with ads AT ALL, so if you also don't want to deal with ads, please consider supporting the podcast by rating and reviewing and/or signing up at the Ko-fi or Patreon @ ko-fi.com/saracenturypodcasts. or patreon.com/saracenturypodcasts. For this week's TFTSB, we got to do one of Cacey's all time favorites: LITTLE BIRD by Darcy Van Poelgeest, Ian Bertram, & Matt Hollingsworth! This headtrip of a miniseries is all about one family and their never-ending pursuit of freedom from oppression. In the distant future, a fascist theocratic regime has taken over the United States, and they are making their way through the great white north, and only The Axe and his granddaughter Little Bird stand in their way. It's beautiful in the most grotesque and violent way imaginable, and it's one heck of a wild ride! Support Tales From The Short Box by joining our Patreon! patreon.com/BraveNewWorldsComics

Here's hoping you had a wonderful holiday season, now back to more podcasts! This is an episode I have been looking forward to for quite some time as I get to chat with Darcy Van Poelgeest about his newest Boom! Studios comic Lotus Land with artist Caio Filipe. I read issue #1 of Lotus Land and it's a science-fiction noir, set in a future version of Vancouver. It's a mystery where we, the reader, follow along as things unravel but at its heart is the story of a parent and child. I loved it. I have been a fan of Darcy's work since the owner of my LCS put a copy of Little Bird #1 into my hand and said "You MUST read this", because Little Bird is one of the best comics I have ever read. We even get to discuss a little bit about Precious Metal. So check out DVP's website and be sure to subscribe to his newsletter and go pick up Lotus Land now! Learn more about your ad choices. Although, there is still a Northern Canadian resistance in the Rocky Mountains that is lead by such characters as Tantoo, Little Bird, and The Axe. Nerd Escape discusses the setting, characters, and the ideas that Little Bird presents on religion and death.

(Rebekah's Pick) Little Bird from IMAGE COMICS written by Darcy Van Poelgeest with art by Ian Bertram Director/screenwriter DARCY VAN POELGEEST boasts a long list of awards and accolades for his storytelling prowess and brings the same writing finesse to IAN BERTRAM's breathtakingly detailed artwork in the gorgeous, hyper-detailed miniseries LITTLE BIRD, following a young resistance fighter who battles against an oppressive American Empire and searches for her own identity in a world on fire. (Rod's Pick) Dark Red from AFTERSHOCK COMICS written by Tim Seeley with art by Corin Powell Charles "Chip" Ipswich isn't one of those coastal elites with a liberal arts degree and a job at a social media start-up who knows where all the best brunch places are... No, Chip is one of the "forgotten men." He lives in a rural area in the middle of the country where Jesus still has a place at the dinner table and where factories send jobs to Calcutta. (Joe's Pick) Bad Luck Chuck from DARK HORSE COMICS written by Lela Gwenn with art by Matthew Dow Smith She'll need more than a rabbit's foot to get through this. But bad luck doesn't always go as planned, and when Chuck gets stuck between a dissatisfied crime boss client, a cult leader, and a dogged insurance-fraud investigator, things get... explosive. Everything that could go wrong does-and only about half of it by accident.
