Dell Loy Hansen, who is the Founder & CEO of Wasatch Group, joins Clint Betts and Garrett Clark for this episode of the Silicon Slopes Podcast to chat about his work in helping displaced Ukrainian families. Dell travelled to Ukraine to witness firsthand the effects of war and he now enables people to build villages of homes in the region, helping hundreds of families find shelter. At 71 years old, he should be enjoying retirement, but he spends his days getting construction updates, guiding his team of builders in Ukraine, and speaking with the families as they start new lives in their new homes. They get to the bottom of the inspiration behind Dell's mission and he talks about always learning to stay informed and educated. "I would protect the innocent who can't protect themselves."
This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Just over a year ago, Real Salt Lake was rejuvenated when David Blitzer and Utah's own Ryan Smith purchased the Club. RSL President John Kimball tells us more. JOHN KIMBALL: In Utah, soccer has long been one of the great cultural unifiers in our community, with picturesque views from America First Field in Sandy or Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman advertising Utah's stunning beauty and showcasing our exceptional backyard to viewers all over the world. Founded by Dave Checketts, expanded by Dell Loy Hansen and now inspired by the Blitzer/Smith partnership to steward this community asset, Real Salt Lake creates local, national and international connections to Utah. With 19 consecutive sellout crowds during the last two seasons, fans are our lifeblood; meanwhile, innovative entrepreneurs and blue-chip businesses across the region partner with our teams, venues and players to connect deeply with the community and achieve their goals. In addition to promoting Utah companies, we're working hard to save the Great Salt Lake, stock local school food pantries, and collaborate with valued partners to enhance lives across Utah and beyond. DEREK MILLER: The World Cup arrives in North America in three years, and Utah's soccer teams and facilities will connect us to this incredible event. For more information, visit RealSaltLake.com. I'm Derek Miller with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business. Originally aired: April 21, 2023
Ten months ago, amidst the national reckoning on race that revealed visual and violent instances of racial inequity and injustice in our country, SB Nation and The Athletic reported stories on Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen that exposed a history of racism and what was described as a toxic work culture within the organization. Those revelations forced Hansen to put the team up for sale. Since Hansen has been away from the club, Real Salt Lake has genuinely embraced the need to address racism, diversity, equity and inclusion up and down the organization, be leaders in their community and advocate for those causes. They've worked closely with us at RISE and our Chief Program Officer Dr. Andrew Mac Intosh to hold multi-week leadership programs and trainings, from players and staff in their youth academy all the way up to senior staff and executives with their MLS club, and this week RISE will be onsite as Real Salt Lake is partnering with the Vancouver Whitecaps to celebrate Juneteenth when the two clubs resume their MLS season this Friday, June 18, at Rio Tinto Stadium outside Salt Lake City. Anthony Beltran, the team's Assistant General Manager, and Arnold Rijsenberg, RSL Academy's Director of Coaching, have been instrumental in bringing these DEI trainings to the organization in hopes of fostering a more inclusive culture from top to bottom. Tony and Arnold join us to discuss the progress made, the work that still needs to be done and the importance of this week's Juneteenth celebration in light of all they have been through as individuals and as an organization.

Hayley McGoldrick is back for another episode. She and Irfan talk about the new KC team in the NWSL and, refer to the problem that forced the sale of the team: the toxic racist and sexist environment previously created by then owner Dell Loy Hansen and chief business officer Andy Carroll. Their behaviour ultimately changed the culture for Real Salt Lake, Monarchs, and Royals. A new endeavour led by Angie and Chris Long provides as a fresh start for a fan base and the player/personnel that deserve another chance at a better culture! Irfan also asks Hayley about the turnaround in Arsenal's play with 8W2D2L (updated) in all competitions since the Chelsea win. The loss of Ozil will be felt but both agreed that Arsenal are building a team for the future that is truly Arteta's to coach and no longer carries the imprint of Wenger. The Utah Royals FC Show returns to discuss the news that RSL and URFC owner Dell Loy Hansen will sell the club after allegations of racism. It's been a crazy few days since Hansen took to one of his radio stations to express frustration with the Real Salt Lake players boycotting Wednesday's game against LAFC in protest of racism and police brutality. After fan outrage, employees started to share these allegations of racist remarks, and Major League Soccer and the National Women's Soccer League opened investigations into Hansen. He then announced plans to sell Utah Soccer Holdings, the umbrella company for Real Salt Lake, Utah Royals, and the Real Monarchs. Thanks for listening!
There is a chance that MLS might be in Arizona based on the accusations of racism sticking to Real Salt Lake's owner Dell Loy Hansen.

LAFC. Seattle. It's taken just two-plus seasons for MLS to have a new must-see matchup. Last year's Supporters Shield winners taking on last year's MLS Cup champions. A game made all the more important considering LAFC's previous result against Carson, our current unfamiliar place in the standings, and our holes in the lineup created by injuries to our captain Carlos Vela and midfielder extraordinaire Eduard Atuesta. Could LAFC stop the slide of recent losses and poor play at the site of our first win in club history? In a word, no.Episode 113 sees Filly in Las Vegas, Scarf in Lawndale, and our back line in tatters. Seattle's Peruvian talisman, Raul Ruidiaz, struck yet again, this time from distance, while Jordan Morris ran laps around the defense en route to a brace. Questions abound. Should we see more of San Pablo in net? Was that injury the end for Danilo Silva? Do we need to look outside the club for defensive help? Can we call "take-backs" on the deal with Nashville? Though the sky may be falling right now for LAFC, there were several silver linings during the match. Jose Cifuentes's midfield play looked solid as he did his best to fill in for Atuesta. Diego Rossi netted once again to move back to the top of the Golden Boot race. And in a bit of history for the club, 16-year old Christian Torres, the pride of Fontana, became the first LAFC Academy product and Homegrown signing to take the pitch in an MLS match. Perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train after all. On this episode, we wish a very happy 21st birthday to Phillip Ejimadu while recalling our own 21st birthday celebrations. This Day In LAFC History takes us back to Carlos Vela's "Houdini" goal against San Jose, our "Wait, What?!" moment takes 61 seconds, Scheduling with the Scarf makes a comeback, and Banc of California Stadium gets a new address! Hear yet another reason we are proud of Bob Bradley, inspired by Mark-Anthony Kaye, and disgusted with Dell Loy Hansen. Not much time to cry in our Cheerios, Defenders, as we take the pitch in just three short days against San Jose at home. Will we right the ship against the Smurfs? You'll have to tune in to Episode 114 to find out!

Mike Petke, former manager for Real Salt Lake, was fired after it was determined that he used a word which MLS considers a slur towards referees after a match against Tigres in the Leagues Cup. He was initially suspended for two weeks and ordered to undergo anger management. That suspension was later upgraded to a full termination after Dell Loy Hansen, the owner of Real Salt Lake, was caught on tape discussing the incident, having revealed he was still considering firing Petke, even though the manager was serving his agreed upon suspension. Petke then filed a lawsuit against the team, alleging breach of contract among other causes of action. I discuss the case with Matt Montgomery of RSL Soapbox, who initially uncovered the Hansen conversation, which is believed to have initiated the about face which led to Petke's ultimate demise. I then briefly review the causes of action in the lawsuit and give some initial thoughts on where this could be headed. Twitter: @turneresq Learn more about your ad choices.
