Also zumindest auf Platte. „Do I Wanna Know... all about the Arctic Monkeys?
Buzzcocks, Arctic Monkeys, Men At Work et Lynyrd Skynyrd. On this episode of Vinyl Verdict, Bell, Jamie and Plouffe listen to Plouffe's next pick, Arctic Monkey's "AM". Their fifth studio album, it was released in September 2013, and the album was an immediate hit for the band. Six singles were release from the album, with most of them charting well in both UK, where the Arctic Monkeys are based, and internationally. "AM" has remained on the charts in countries such as Australia, Denmark and the Netherlands in the ten years since release, a huge feat. The album won the 2014 Brit Award for British Album of the Year, and the single Do I Wanna Know? was nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 57th Grammy Awards. Reviews were kind to the album both at the time and retrospectively. The New Musical Express (NME) named it the 449th of the 500 greatest albums of all time, after the album had only been out for a month, and Rolling Stone named it the 346th of the 500 greatest albums of all time on their updated 2020 list. Where will the boys put it on their lists? Will this be a rare quorum for the podcast? Come along and find out!
If your jam is Bluegrass music, revolutionaries, political rants, and the Wild West of the Internet (otherwise known as the Deep Web), you're gonna love this episode. Daniel Torday is here to talk about his novel ‘Boomer1', a story that follows Bluegrass musician, underemployed millennial, and now PhD in English, Mark Brumfeld, who channels his desperation by posting a series of online video monologues that critique Baby Boomers and their powerful hold on the job market. When the videos go viral, Mark loses control of what he began—with consequences that ensnare him in a matter of national security. Later, mandolin player for the Bluegrass band Unspoken Tradition and music marketing director for Crossroads Studios near Asheville, North Carolina, Ty Gilpin joins me to give a crash course on Bluegrass. AUGUST 07, 2022 AARON SMITH SEASON 1 EPISODE 32 SHOW NOTES:Today, in Episode 32, we discuss the importance of being able to perceive our own capacity for evil and the difference between someone choosing to sacrifice for others and someone being coerced into sacrificing for the collective. Greek-Canadian singer and songwriter, Katerine Duska, joins us from her home in Montreal and sheds some light on her impressive music career. A "late bloomer", and initially a self-trained singer, Katerine began her music career after exploring various academic options including law school. Her debut album "Embodiment" was released in 2015 and quickly gained prominence when her songs "One in a Million" and Arctic Monkeys' cover "Do I Wanna Know" reached over 2 million views on Youtube. The viral success helped facilitate a deal with Minos EMI, a Universal Music Company, and in 2018 her single 'Fire Away' was selected for the official "Nescafe Canada" television & radio ad campaign. Duska gained further international recognition when she represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The competition, held in Tel Aviv, Israel, featured artists from 41 countries and was "like a master class on performing arts". The theme of the contest was Dare to Dream with a focus on unity, diversity, inclusion, and confidence. Katerine performed her 2019 single "Better Love" and placed 21st in the grand final. She states, “Love has nothing to do with gender, it's a very pro-human song”. Cowritten by Leon of Athens and David Sneddon and produced with Phil Cook, the song received extensive international airplay, charting in over 40 countries and making the Global Viral Top 50 chart on Spotify and topping Greece's iTunes Charts. The same year she was a coach & mentor on the Greek hit talent show "The Final Four" and released "ANEMOS" featuring friend and musical colleague, Leon of Athens. The song reached the top 3 of Greece's Viral Top 50 chart on Spotify. Throughout the pandemic Katerine released several singles including "Sanctuary", "Athenian Skies", "Of Time", and "Muse" which culminated into a five song EP. Call Me Nyx was released in 2022 and was followed by a string of shows in the United States including several performances at the prestigious Austin-based festival, SXSW. Katerine talks about some of her influences ranging from rock artists Gwen Stefani and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to soulful jazz greats Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone. She also cites R&B influences like Lauren Hill and a plethora of Greek music. Her musical and vocal style blends the powerful and pensive with the uplifting and empowering, and Duska's trademark soulful rasp has earned her comparisons to such vocal titans as Adele and Amy Winehouse. The trilingual vocalist, who splits her time between Athens, Montreal and London, believes in seeking beauty in her surroundings and experiences and strives to incorporate a positive message in her music. We highly recommend exploring her audio and video catalogue! Spotify | Apple Music | YouTube | FB | IG | Thanks for listening!
Hey Pod lovers. If you're joining us for the first time: Welcome! "The Mastercast" is a podcast recommendation show that brings you a brand new, non-spoiler, binge-worthy review every week of the best podcasts in a short and sweet 2-3 minute summary on everything you could want to know, from the number of hosts to on average how long you can expect each episode to be. New episodes come out every Monday. You can find the week's other reviews on the show's social on Instagram @themastercast and Twitter @mastercastpods I'm your host, Marie, and this week I'm bringing you a review on …"Like a Version"This weekly music podcast is actually a recorded segment that is performed live on the Australian radio station Triple J. It was created by Mel Bampton for his show "Mel in the Morning" in 2004.Every set has artists, both international and local, play two songs, one of their own and a cover of someone else's in their own style (or version). It's similar to BBC's "Radio 1's Live Lounge" sets and Irish Today FM's "Even Better Than the Real Thing." The name is also said to be a play on “Like a Virgin” Madonna's 1984 album.Originally these performances were acoustic, but the style has since developed to include all sorts of music. The show's wide popularity has led to CDs as well as some of the covers making it onto the Triple J Hottest 100.It is also a podcast on most podcast players but a playlist on Spotify. While most sets can be found on Triple J's website as well as their YouTube channel, the online archive doesn't go back further than August 2006.Like most cover songs, you have to take the good with the bad. While there are some incredibly well-done ones, there are also misfires. I really enjoy when bands really try to cover a song in their own style instead of as close as they can to the original. It is like a version after all.Apple Podcasts has 4.6 stars and 32 Ratings. So far there are 577 episodes currently available with new ones coming out every Thursday, and on average they last about 20 minutes.OwlTail's most popular isn't working for this podcast, but my favorites are almost too hard to pick. I adore the CHVRCHES cover of Kendrick Lamar's 'LOVE' (their ‘Do I Wanna Know?' is also amazing), and Meg Mac's ‘Let it Happen' originally done by Tame Impala. Those are just two of the many stunning songs. Seriously, all worthy of checking out, but again some are better than others. No swears for this one but the nature of songs can vary. Side note: Triple J does another brilliant segment called "Bars of Steel" that features rappers and is worth checking out (I recommend A.Girl's set).Similar Pods: "Tiny Desk Concerts," "Live Lounge Uncovered" and "Headliners"That's all for this week, but remember if you want to see the cover art, sources or the written transcript for this episode be sure to check out the show notes or KCSUFM.com. The cat is truly among the pigeons this week, as Chris puts the Arctic Monkeys' third album Humbug forth for our consideration. Is this the biggest band we've ever covered?! Probably not, no - we did cover Metallica after all - but they are the first band we've ever covered with a song on Spotify that is has over 1 billion plays (It's Do I Wanna Know? incidentally) so I suppose you could argue that they are the biggest band we've yet covered. On this episode we talk about the band's history, as well as how they came about in this weird post-Napster pre-Facebook era, coming completely out of nowhere at a time when MySpace was the places where all the kids hung out online. The band have made a number of interesting stylistic choices over the years, which is impressive for a band with their profile. What's more impressive though is how their fans seem to come on the journey with them, which is rare for just about any band, let alone a huge act like these guys. Next week we'll talk about Humbug itself and of course the Josh Homme factor.

All You Need Is Love.
