The magic of collaboration lies in its ability to bring together different minds and talents to create a sum greater than its parts. But collaboration not only fosters creativity and achieves goals; it can also transform lives. Two years ago, I teamed up with publisher Lanette Pottle and a wonderful community of women to write three books: Elevate Your Voice, Step Into Your Brave, and Shine Your Light. This book project not only provided a platform for these women to share their stories but also endeavored to achieve another goal, and that is to support other women around the world reach their dreams. There are light beamers. You're human, and nobody wants to do business with robots. In the digital age of AI, we will do a lot of business with robots in the future."It's innate in who we are and how we're designed as human beings that storytelling resonates. We tend to learn through storytelling. This is why storytelling has been around since the beginning of time. We can date it back to the caveman days, and that's how they communicated. They documented their existence by painting in the caves and telling a story. And so, stories do just that, right? They help document our existence. We've come a long way since the caveman days, and storytelling is very sophisticated. There are many ways we can utilize storytelling in our communication. We have unlimited ways to do that now in the digital age that we live in. But at the end of the day, it's still just about connecting with another human being and using storytelling to show that we are all kind of alike." – APRIL"The number one soft skill that most business owners overlook or disregard altogether. And it's what it is really like. I call it a secret weapon in business. This relates to sales, building an audience, and connecting with future and potential clients and existing clients storytelling; we can go so much further with our businesses if we incorporate more storytelling. What performs well on social media is when people, businesses, and the humans behind the business show up and tell real stories. It's not the marketing, it's not the sales pages, it's not even the beautifully crafted testimonials, although testimonials are a form of storytelling. It's just the human being a human. And so, I always say storytelling is going to be the thing that humanizes your business and will allow you to be seen differently than all the other fish in the water because it will make you unique. This is especially important right now in the world that we're entering with AI because AI cannot reproduce your story. So we're going to be bombarded, we are already being bombarded, and I think there's a place for AI; I'm not poo-pooing it, but we need to be careful not just to use AI, we need to use AI and use storytelling, and when you use storytelling, you're going to be able to infuse your personality, your own set of values kind of what you stand for, your flavor, you know, your personality. And that will help create conversions in your sales and your conversations; it's going to bring more people to you and into your audience. It's going to increase your engagement. All those things that we're all looking for as business owners." – APRIL"I'm a big fan of video because you're hearing my voice right now on the podcast. You don't broadcast anywhere on video. So you won't find me on video listening to this episode. But even just the voice, you can hear my voice and the intonation and the way I have inflection. But if you were to see me on video right now, number one, you would see my face. You will see what I look like. You would see my hand gestures because I'm quite animated when I talk, and I use my hands a lot. And I smile, right? I smile, or if I'm feeling something emotional, I might show a little more emotion in my face. And that allows, as human beings, it allows a visual clue as to who we are as people." – APRILConnect with April Adams Pertuis:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lightbeamers/Lightbeamers: https://www.lightbeamers.com/Try Our Proven, 3-Step System, Guaranteeing Accountability and Transparency that Drives RESULTS by clicking on this link: https://oneofakindsales.com/call-center-in-a-box/ Connect with Nancy Calabrese:Twitter:https://twitter.com/oneofakindsalesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/One-Of-A-Kind-Sales-304978633264832/Website:https://oneofakindsales.comPhone: 908-879-2911LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ncalabrese/Email: leads@oneofakindsales.com

Have you ever considered the role your voice plays in your career? Is your voice elevating your career or holding you back? For broadcasters (and podcasters alike), it's indispensable. Today on the show, I am reflecting on Mother's Day from a place of courage, vulnerability and self-compassion.I have recently released a book with 14 other authors, (fondly known as the Book Mama's) entitled “Elevate Your Voice”. Check it out here: https://amzn.to/3v5pAZcMy chapter is called “Living and Grieving with Courage.”This week on the show I am celebrating Mother's Day Week. I take some time to reflect on my relationship with my own mom and my daughter. And I share a very personal experience…my recent Reiki session with Shauna Blue. Shauna reminded me of the connectivity and power of mother-daughter relationships. And helped me to see that my grief journey continues and is always evolving. I'm also opening myself up to forgiveness and self-compassion.This is a continuation of a love story of the most powerful relationship in my life…and my journey to think courageously.
What do you do when you completely miss creating a plan for your podcast episode that's set to be released in 2 days? Well, you run to your friends -- aka your Community -- and ask them for help!! And that's exactly what I did! Having no specific topic for this week's episode, I decided to make it interactive by having friends ask me questions that I would answer on the show. So I turned to the LIGHTbeamers Community, told them what was happening and what I intended to do, and boy oh boy, did I get some fantastic Qs!! So I invite you to join me today as I answer questions ranging from how to handle pressure to what's the best thing about our family's recent move … truly a mixed bag of nuts!! Here are the contributors to this week's episode, and their Qs: Ashley DeLuca asks: how do you handle the pressure to do all the things? (Timely? I know!!) Rachel Marie Nelson wants to know: why the color yellow? Another one from Rachel: how do you draw stories out of others? Leanne Smith: what was a limiting belief that was smashed during the book launch of Elevate Your Voice? From Melinda Kunst and also Leanne Smith: what is my go-to way of unwinding and what does being slow and present mean to me? Becky Burroughs: what was the criteria I used to decide what to stop doing or how did I decide what sort of things to hand off to my team? Julie: what has been the best thing about your recent move? This turned out to be such a fun episode to record because I got to talk about and answer YOUR choice of topics and questions. If not for the predicament I found myself in, I may have not had the chance to discuss these things with you! Again, thank you to the wonderful ladies of the LIGHTbeamers Community for helping out this week and if there's anything else you want to ask me, let's keep this going inside the group! And if you're not in there yet, I'm inviting you to join the LIGHTbeamers Community on Facebook. Have you ever thought about being an author or stepping on stage to speak? If so then you know you must have a well-crafted story. On today's episode I'm talking with April Pertuis, a story expert. She's not just talking about how to tell a story, but how to make sure it gets out to those who are ready to hear it. “Publishing the book is only half the work.” April Pertuis April's book project, Elevate Your Voice is now available on Amazon. Check out the stories of the 14 women who worked with April to share their stories as only they could. This isn't your typical book collaboration. April developed a program centered around embracing and telling their stories. The book is the bonus, the tangible result of the work and experience. These women worked together in a community. Yes, each person had their own story and April led them through the process in weekly calls as a group. A professional editor was hired too. All the participants received feedback from April the story expert, from Lanette Pottle the publisher and from the editor. With each piece of feedback, the authors were able to refine and polish their story. Hear how these authors can now share these stories (and others) in multiple ways moving forward. Some of the participants feel confident and ready to write their own book after learning how story development and publishing work. April breaks down how people chose the stories they wanted to share. There was an over-arching theme, but each person chose what was meaningful to them. When you hear this table of contents (each story) you're going to be blown away! What's next? We know that the publication of the book is really the beginning. It's the opening of a door for the authors. One woman launched a business as a result of telling her story Another is now writing her own full-length book Another group is already on the way to publishing book number 2! April has seen increased visibility and opportunities as a result of working on this project I love that this is a springboard for those who chose to participate. In long game style, opportunities show up when we face the fear and move forward. Hear how April determined if this project would be a good fit for her. This insight and perspective are something we can all benefit from. Another long-game approach: community. These women are now connected. They supported each other and they all helped one another. Relationships were formed that will continue well beyond the publish date. We finish up with the marketing info. April and her team developed an incredible plan for promotion. Hear what they created to make sure the book was a success. Just a few things included: Graphics and materials with a cohesive brand across all authors Developed a launch team to help with promotions Set up interviews to help each author The next cohort has begun! April shares how one of the authors in the 2nd group helped an author who was fearful to open the box of books when they arrived. You're going to love it. Lastly, the proceeds of the book are going to Kiva! What an amazing way to pay it forward. I'm going to make sure April comes back later this year to give us an update on how the book and the authors are doing as well as info on the next one! Buy the book! Learn more about your ad choices. Everyone has the power to make change by elevating their voice. Here are ten ideas for doing that! ----------------------------------------------- Welcome to Ever Better Today: the daily podcast for creating your optimal business, career, or overall life in ten minutes or less. I'm Lisa Conners Vogt, Executive and Leadership Coach and founder of Ever Better Coaching and Consulting. Let's jump in! ----------------------------------------------- 10 ways to elevate your voice: Write in a journal. Make a habit of spending about 15- or 20-minutes per day writing in your journal. This can be a spiral notebook, a journal made for this purpose, or a pad of paper. It doesn't need to be fancy! Practice getting clear on your perspective by writing about literally anything! Write about something fun that you did, an activity you're looking forward to, an event that didn't go as well as you would have liked, or an issue that's pissing you off! The less formal the better. Just be yourself and get started! Write a blog. Your blogs don't need to be published until and unless you're ready. Write blogs to practice crystallizing and organizing your thoughts. Use an outline of an introductory statement, a body with three main points, and a summary conclusion. If you're ready to publish your blogs, create your own simple website using Wix or Squarespace. Or, post on Medium. Post about a topic on social media. Facebook Groups and LinkedIn are perfect for longer posts. If you share someone else's post, include your perspective. What's important to you about the post? What do you want people to learn from it? Live broadcast on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or YouTube. This is an easy way to practice sharing your perspective in a “live” format. Join in with a friend who's interested in the same topic so you're not going it alone. Don't be concerned with the number of people who tune in. You're doing this to practice elevating your voice. When you stick with it, others will start to notice. Write a short story about your perspective. Writing fiction will make you think more broadly and imaginatively! It doesn't need to be shared with anyone else or published unless you'd like to do that! Answer a question in Quora. Quora is a platform where people post questions about anything you can imagine and others jump in to answer and offer their perspectives. Search for the topic that most interests you, jump into the conversation, and answer a question confidently. This is a great way to help someone out! Get involved with local legislation. Start by writing an email to your elected official, or attend a public hearing and share your opinion. Get your thoughts into the public record! Run for office! We always need more thoughtful, articulate individuals to actively participate in our democracy. Running for office will put you in the position of constantly answering questions and engaging in spirited conversations on a wide variety of topics. Join a Toastmasters club. Toastmasters is a safe and inviting space to practice public speaking. Your first task will be to stand up and introduce yourself and you'll only need to take it a step further when you're ready. Be a podcast guest. Research who's doing a podcast about a particular topic you like. Reach out to them and offer to be their guest. Bonus Tip: Start Your Own Podcast! Creating your own podcast can be time-consuming but well worth it! ----------------------------------------------- To learn more about working with Ever Better, send me an email here or book a complimentary call with me here.
On today's episode of the Think Courageously Podcast, I'm taking a deep dive into the rollercoaster ride of becoming an author. Three weeks after my major spinal surgery in July, I said "yes" to the opportunity to contribute a chapter to the book "Elevate Your Voice". Writing my chapter (Living and Grieving with Courage) and seeing it through the editing and publication process has been a big deal for me and an amazing journey. It has been nine months in the making, and the official launch date of the book is April 6th.I am excited and proud to be an author, but it is also scary. In this episode, I share my feelings about the actual writing experience and the collaborative process that was deployed to bring this book to life. I talk about the community of women who are authors, the role accountability played in the process and the wonderful friendship I developed with my partner, Leanne Smith. I describe how, through an intensive brainstorming process, I kept coming back to the one story that I knew I had to write. Let me be clear, it is not the story I expected to write. It is the story I needed to write. Finally, I share the powerful lessons that came from writing my chapter including: The not so subtle reminder that we can do hard things. How writing gave me the closure I needed to work through the most painful experience of my life. The importance of my message in supporting others who are also on a grief journey. The unexpected feeling of really creating a legacy piece for my family and their families for the futureAnd of course the power of finishing what you start. Please purchase your book on April 6th on Amazon. Be sure to leave a review and share the book with others. And, I would love for you to send me an email at deb@thinkgoodcompany.com about the book and my chapter. I can't wait to hear from you!

Vulnerability seems like such a big, scary word. But when we allow ourselves to become vulnerable at the right moment, something magical can happen. Deb Cummins Stellato is another one of our authors for Elevate Your Voice, the first ever LIGHTbeamers collaborative book. She considers herself the Princess of Pivots, having gone through so many changes in a span of a few short years. Today, Deb tells us what it means to power through grief with courage, vulnerability, and acceptance. Join me and Deb as we talk about: How her storytelling has evolved and what the continuum of courage is The invitation to write a chapter for the LIGHTbeamers collaborative book, and the fears that came with making her story public Her writing journey and the pain that came with reliving the grief of her mother's death How sharing her story has helped her heal and move forward The experience of becoming an author for Elevate Your Voice, and what it felt like to build a community with the other women of the Author Program The importance of having an abundance mindset and the value of sharing Today's conversation with Deb is a reminder that storytelling – when done in an honest and vulnerable way – gives you an opportunity to heal, and opens up ways to connect and build community with those around you. So here's an invitation for you: share your story. Elevate your voice. And let your courage and inner light shine through. On today's podcast, I welcome Julia Buck Barton, a fellow author in the “Elevate Your Voice” book (which you can purchase on April 6th on Amazon). The seeds of Julia Barton's life mission were planted when she earned her Reiki I certification at the age of eight. A born intuitive and empath, young Julia used Reiki to make herself feel safe and protected. Despite growing up in a holistic household, adulthood found her unsure of how to best use her gifts. That all changed when she started a family. Her isolating experience with postpartum depression cultivated a desire to support and nurture others. She became a Postpartum Doula and Reiki Master to offer love, warmth, and support to help new moms trust their intuition and find joy throughout their postpartum journey. During our conversation, we talk about the courage it took Julia to rebloom. We explore:Overcoming perfectionismThe importance of community in healingTrusting your intuitionReturning to your true sourceFinding your life's purpose Finally, Julia shares how her desire to help women bloom into their fullest selves became a business, Olive & Bloom Holistic Care and Healing. So many of us women -- yes, myself included -- have been conditioned to think that we should stay small and quiet, to stay behind the scenes even when we have something valuable to give to our community. One woman is trying to change that by helping other women learn how to “say NO to things that don't serve you and YES to things that light you on fire.” Pamela Meadows -- one of the 14 women who took up the challenge to elevate their voice and let their story be told -- is on a mission to help women create and live their best lives. Join me and Pamela today, as she and I talk about: How she owned her expertise and what she did to advocate for herself in the workplace What she's doing now to affect change in the company she's with, including getting everyone to have their own Smile File! Her reason for joining the LIGHTbeamers Author Program and what it was like for her to go on this journey Her message to women about confidence, value, and self-worth, and getting clarity on their life goals Being the leader while also realizing that there's still a lot to learn about giving equal opportunities in and outside of the workplace I've always advocated for women learning to choose and say YES to themselves. As the title of our book says: Elevate Your Voice! Speak up, let yourself be heard, and take action on the things that will allow you to live your life to the fullest. And like Pamela, begin to create the life you love. Today's episode of The Inside Story Podcast is the fourth in a series I'm doing, with the women authors of Elevate Your Voice, the LIGHTbeamers collaborative book project. Becky Burroughs is a leadership coach and education junkie whose focus is on faith-based principles. Her goal is to empower women to live their lives and lead with courage, credibility, and confidence, and to help them discover what makes them unique and embrace that quality in them. Becky is such an inspiration to talk to, so I invite you to listen in as we discuss: The circumstances surrounding her decision to work with women in ministry and why she got into leadership coaching Why she says women are still part of the problem when it comes to equality in the workplace and in society in general The identity crisis she went through after suffering from loss – and what she discovered about herself The amazing journey she feels lucky to have gone on by joining our Author Program for the book, Elevate Your Voice Her 2022 plans to further empower women in ministry – this is such a good one!! As Becky has shown us, using your voice to bring about positive change – especially in the lives of women who need encouragement and empowerment – will always be a rewarding experience. April has been so helpful to me this year with her support and guidance… never judging … as she helped me open up more to my story and empower my voice. I wanted to being her on the show and talk about her work ... changing women's lives through storytelling and visibility. We talk about getting vulnerable, what happens when we open up our voices, helping women see their power, truth, visibility and how all this can help build relationships in your community. April Adams Pertuis is a Visibility and Media specialist. She is in the business of storytelling. Her philosophy is “everyone has a story” and she's fascinated with getting to the Core of what that story is. April's career spans more than 30 years as a journalist, producer, writer, and positive encourager. She is an award-winning video journalist who has worked for CBS Television, HGTV, DIY Network, Food Network, and numerous private industries where she has interviewed thousands of people and crafted their story as a result. Today, April works with people and brands to help them tell their story in a more authentic way so they can reach more customers, attract new clients, grow their audience, and ultimately tap into their true power. One of her favorite components of storytelling is piecing the puzzle together to craft a compelling, emotional and meaningful story that touches others. No matter what the business is, what the product is, what the service is — the heart of people is always what matters! April's passion created the Lightbeamers Community on Facebook to give women a private and safe space to have open & honest conversations about life, business, personal growth, and spirituality. She also launched her own podcast titled The Inside Story Podcast, where she takes listeners behind inspiring success stories of different men and women, including her own. April has studied under mentors Marie Forleo and Gabrielle Bernstein to further her knowledge and understanding of business and spirituality, and how the they co-exist in today's modern world. She is also a deeply devoted member of her church, where she has served in many leadership roles, including being ordained as a Deacon. Her thirst for anything personal development & spiritual growth is never-ending, and her enthusiasm and positive energy is infectious. April leads retreats, workshops, and storytelling symposiums throughout the year to take women on a storytelling journey — helping them tap into their authentic voice and learn the power of their words. Her motto is “when we share our stories, we shine our light” — and her goal is to have women share their journey more openly so it may inspire others to do the same. When she's not spinning her ideas into projects, April spends a good amount of time volunteering in her community because “when you do good, good comes to you”. She also spends her time chasing her two kids and dreaming of her next vacation to quiet beaches with her husband. Forever a “girl of summer”, April enjoys anything related to the summer sun — beaches, pools, hiking, lakes, rivers, backyard BBQ's, and spending time family and friends. Yes.. as April says… when you are empowered to honor your truth (not run away from it or be ashamed of it) you ignite your light which in turns helps others to shine theirs. Check out April's offerings and come join the Lightbeamers Community on Facebook. Follow her on Instagram. Her first book, "Elevate Your Voice" is a due out Spring 2022.
