Marketing often seems like the wild west of data & analytics. Made up Key figures, vendor-provided promises of quick and easy sales. But how do we really create a distinction? And why is marketing even important? In this week's episode your host Christian Krug interviews Louis Grenier, freelance marketing coach and consultant. Author of the book – Stand the f*ck out.A great product might be a good start for a new business. But if no one has ever heard of you and your shiny new thing, people probably won't come and buy from you. This is where a great marketing story begins.Unfortunately, there are several things that can go wrong here. From an unclear offer to an unknown buying group or a vague branding. Things can terribly influence your performance in the market. Platforms like google or meta now offer to help you and by just inserting some dollars to their tools your product will sell itself. Well if something sounds too good to be true, most of the time it is.While there is nothing wrong with putting ads online and performance marketing itself, it also is only one half of the truth. If people know you, then it becomes more likely that they buy from you than your unknown competitors.A huge part of that is defining your Unique selling point. The one meaningful thing that sets you apart from all the others out there. It doesn't need to be something groundbreaking. It can be unbundling a wrapped process or putting something new to an established product or service. Like a nice can with a skull around water. As people tend not to buy thing with rational decision making. This means that marketing is even more important. Which feelings does your brand give them? Do you help them to present themselves in special way?If you can answer those questions – you already made the most important steps into establishing your brand. From then on you can take the next steps.▬▬▬▬▬▬ Profiles: ▬▬▬▬Louis at LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/louisgrenier/Find Louis' Book: https://www.stfo.io/Christian at LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-krug/Unf*ck Your Data at Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/unfck-your-data▬▬▬▬▬▬ Book recommendation: ▬▬▬▬Siobhan book recommendation: How brands grow – Byron SharpThe “UYD” bookshelf at Melena's store: https://gunzenhausen.buchhandlung.de/unfuckyourdata▬▬▬▬▬▬ Where to find UN#CK YOUR DATA: ▬▬▬▬Podcast at Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6Ow7ySMbgnir27etMYkpxT?si=dc0fd2b3c6454bfaPodcast at iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/de/podcast/unf-ck-your-data/id1673832019Podcast at Deezer: https://deezer.page.link/FnT5kRSjf2k54iib6UYD at Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@unfckyourdata▬▬▬▬▬▬ Contact:

Meet Louis Grenier, author of Stand The F*ck Out which is an amazing book on marketing that dives deep into positioning. Louis has a podcast called Everyone Hates Marketers and if you thought sales was tough, perhaps marketing is the biggest challenge of them all. How are affiliate sites positioned today in terms of marketing? Louis thinks most of them are s*** but simply put, this is one of my favourite episodes and shoutout to Mark Preston on the previous episode for the insight that affiliates need to treat their websites like a real business.
In this candid conversation, Louis Grenier breaks down his book Stand the F*ck Out and shares his practical four-part marketing framework: insight foraging, unique positioning, distinctive branding, and continuous reach. While tools and tactics evolve, he argues that marketing fundamentals remain unchanged. Grenier passionately challenges marketing myths (especially the idea of "category creation") and emphasizes what really matters: identifying and solving those customer struggles that everyone else is ignoring. Louis Grenier is a recovering Frenchman who helps marketers—folks working in digital, creative services, advertising, consulting, or PR—stand the f*ck out without selling their soul. He's been living in Dublin, Ireland, for more than a decade. He fell in love with marketing when he was 18-19 after reading the book Petit traité de manipulation à l'usage des honnêtes gens, which is basically the French version of Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion. He prefers taking his coffee at home, in his garden office. Video marketing pro Juma Bannister breaks down what really works when it comes to video content in 2025 landscape. From debunking the myth that "scrappy" videos are always better to sharing practical tips on lighting and sound, the conversation covers all the bases you need to know to succeed with video this year. Bannister explains why it's not enough to just slap a video on your website anymore—it's about building genuine connections with your audience across multiple platforms. Plus, there's some real talk about how social media algorithms are changing the game for content creators. How do you stand out in a sea of copy and content sameness? A USP (unique selling proposition) isn't enough. Neither is being different. My guest for the 230th episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast is marketing strategist Louis Grenier, author of the new book, Stand the F*** Out. We talked about what it takes to position your business, find your people, and build a durable brand. Click the play button below, or scroll down for a full transcript. Stuff to check out: Louis' book and bonuses Louis' book on Amazon The Copywriter Club Facebook Group The Copywriter Underground Full Transcript: Rob Marsh: The biggest question facing most people who own their own businesses is how do I stand out? How do I position my busines in a way that makes it easy for customers to find me—and more importantly, to know they want to work with me? What can I do to make them care? Those important questions are answered in the new book, Stand the F*** Out by Louis Grenier. And Louis is my guest for today's episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast. The topics we cover in our discussion are the kinds of things that help copywriters go from helping clients get the words right to helping clients sell more products, grow their businesses and as the title says: stand out of the crowd. This stuff isn't easy. It can take years to learn. But if you stick around, the insights Louis shares will shortcut your learning curve Before we jump into this interview, I want to mention the guest trainings we have lined up in The Copywriter Underground this month one more time… the first one is focused on building connections with prospects and clients on social media without burning out. If you're like me and struggle to show up on social media consistently, this one will change your approach entirely—and help you find a client. And by the way, a single new client could pay for your Underground membership, for the entire year, two or three times over. And the second workshop is all about landing a “real” in-house job—either part time or full time. A lot of copywriters want something a bit more stable than the string of clients they get as a freelancer. If that sounds like you, you need to hear the ideas this workshop will include. The presenter for this workshop was a talent placement expert for creatives. She's helped hundreds of copywriters find so-called real jobs. What she'll share is critical to know if you're thinking about applying for these kinds of jobs and want to stand out from the crowd. Both of these workshops are exclusively available for members of The Copywriter Underground. If you want access to them plus more than 30 templates, 70+ other workshops and trainings, and monthly coaching and copy critiques from me… you can learn more at thecopywriterclub.com/tcu. If you've been thinking about trying out The Underground, now is the time to do it. The first workshop is tomorrow. Go to thecopywriterclub.com/tcu for more information. And now, let's go to our interview with Louis Grenier. I like to start by hearing your story, how you got to where you are. You're a marketing strategist, author of a fantastic book, Stand the F Out. I don't usually use that word. I do. But it stands out for sure. So tell us how you got here. Louis Grenier: Bonjour, bonjour. Thank you for having me on. And it feels like I'm part of podcasting royalty. So it's good to be invited on this podcast, listen to it a few times over the years. And it's funny how the copywriting discipline is is still thriving despite the fact that they were supposed to be dead a couple of years ago. So it's good to see that you're still fighting the good fight. So yeah, to answer your question, it started from a trip in Paris when I was 17. So that was 18 years ago. to visit one of my older brothers. And I saw this book on his shelf that was basically the French version of Influence by Cialdini. But it wasn't a translation of it.

I was asked for the"secrets" I have for marketing. The biggest secret is this: *drum roll* Vertical specialization *Jedi Wave* "this is the secret you've been looking for" Really? Yes, really. Based on metric fscktonnes of research (that's the technical term) I conducted, and reading the research of others, I believe that positioning your business as specializing in a single vertical is the "magic bullet" that will result in more leads & sales than any other marketing strategy. Why is it a secret? Because niching down to a single vertical scares the crap out of people. There are loads of reasons to fear it: it's turning down opportunity (somewhat valid but doesn't really happen) or "I'll get bored just working in one industry" (highly unlikely, as you specialize you find deeper, more interesting problems.) And it's also difficult, and time consuming, and lots of other problems. But it's worthwhile. What's my call to action? Simple: don't just take my word for it: Listen to Wolfram Moritz and Brad Farris and Jonathan Stark and Sara Dunn and Louis Grenier on the Marketing for Consultants podcast. Go read Philip Morgan's "The Positioning Manual for Indie Consultants" where he walks you through how and why to specilize. Read the Business of Expertise from David C. Baker where he lists the pros and cons of vertical vs horizontal specialization. Read Spiraling Up from Lee Frederiksen & Aaron E. Taylor. In fact, check out everything from Hinge, including Kelly J. Waffle's interview with Yitzi Weiner in the Thrive Global Community. Thank you for attending my TED rant.
