Bong Joon-Ho's madcap, sci-fi satire turns the notion of resurrection on its head, depicting it as something of a curse. Vincent and Len mourn the loss of 1970s songstress Roberta Flack, celebrating her incredible career and iconic voice. This leads to a conversation that touches on notable figures like Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and The Big Bopper. Len lists the Five Films that he will never choose for The Mission, while Vincent connects D'Urville Martin to two actors that Len would prefer not to see in movies. The discussion then turns to a review of Bill Duke's 1997 gangster film starring Laurence Fishburne, which raises questions about its qualities. In this episode, we explore the depiction of custodial violence in films with Deepanjana Pal. Deepanjana Pal is a journalist and author. She writes about culture and society. Her film writing has appeared in a range of publications and she was most recently the managing editor of the website Film Companion. Films about cops in India often sensationalise and normalise police brutality, possibly desensitising audiences to the suffering of real people. In this episode, we critically examined how these films reflect societal attitudes toward power, authority, and justice. We also discussed whether they contribute to meaningful discourse or merely exploit trauma for entertainment. Strike Five Films: Christian FilmmakingInterview with Jayson JohnsonIn this Faith and Family Fellowship episode, Dallas interviews Jayson Johnson, founder of Strike Five Films.About Our Guest:Jayson Johnson is an independent screenwriter and film director. Born in the Chicagoland suburbs to a creative family, he was challenged to seek out his own form of artistic expression and ultimately found himself drawn to TV. As a certified couch potato, Jayson used to watch 7+ hours of television every day. So when it came time for him to choose a major in college, it was an easy decision - Film, and Television. Jayson attended Eastern Illinois University and studied Radio/TV/Film in the Communication Studies field. After college, he landed a job with legendary filmmaker, Francis Ford Coppola at his budding wine estate, Niebaum-Coppola. During his time, Jayson worked on marketing campaigns and internal videos but hoped to work on anything that resembled a film project. Then in 2008, an opportunity presented itself! Jayson was hired to be a prop master for Mr. Coppla's traveling stage performance titled Wine, Daydreams and Memories. Since then Jayson has continued his film journey by working as an independent filmmaker. His films have been selected into over thirty-five film festivals across the globe winning six times. Jayson currently works full time as a writer/director/producer for Strike Five Films.Connect with Jayson:https://jaysonjohnsonproducer.weebly.com/Thank you for listening and supporting the 'Faith and Family Fellowship PODCAST SHOW'. In Episode 4 of MR MOVIE CLUB I talk to legendary Rolling Stone writer David Felton, who actually met & interviewed Charles Manson & many of his "family" back in 1970. So of course we dive deep into Tarantino's new film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood where David tells us what Quentin got right and what he didn't. We also discuss another Manson movie that came out recently, the independent feature "Charlie Says" directed by Mary Harron (American Psycho) and written by Guinevere Turner, who consulted with David to help get the real Manson story. In addition we discuss David's time as one of the original writers on the classic MTV show "Bevis & Butthead." (Huh huh! He said butt!) All that plus David's top Five Films of all time and more!! What a show!! Enjoy!!
