This week in physical media may be appealing to the cults out there. Whichever you belong to, Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski are here to guide you towards your particular following. Perhaps you are in the Richard E. Grant & Bruce Robinson cult. Or stay on that side of the pond with an Oscar-winning musical and a film that was the Bridgerton of its time in the way it uses music. Maybe you're in the late Friday the 13th cult and enjoy its post-Paramount days. Or you have a taste for a marathon of Blaxploitation. Whether you love movie doggies or mutated bears, its best to just avoid the sleeping bags this week. 1:38 - Criterion (Withnail & I 4K, How to Get Ahead in Advertising 4K) 14:36 - Sony (Oliver 4K, A Knight's Tale 4K) 26:29 - Arrow (Jason Goes to Hell 4K, Jason X 4K) 47:09 - Shout (Blaxploitation Classics Vol 1) 1:02:43 - Kino (Wonder Dogs, The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders, Prophecy 4K) 1:23:01 – New Theatrical Titles On Blu-ray (The Quiet Ones, Presence 4K) 1:24:15 - New Blu-ray Announcements
Send us a textThe anniversary of a horror movie classic. 1980s boys' obsession with Transformers. Some of the most pointless features from 1990s internet.Episode 195 brings the buffet when it comes to Gen-X nostalgia. It kicks off with a look back 45 years to the debut of the slasher movie staple Friday the 13th. Dubbed the scariest movie ever before a script was even written this classic spawned countless sequels and eventually one of horror's most enduring villains, Jason Voorhees. We go way back in the day to a favorite of mine and countless other 1980s boys, Transformers. Robots in disguise these toys were a massive success and led to tv shows, movies, and a spot in the zeitgeist of several generations. The internet changed the world as we know it. For all of the good that it has brought there has also been some downright pointless. This week's Top 5 will look back to some of the most useless internet features from the 1990s.There is as always a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule centered around the ill-fated westward journey of the Donner Party. For more great content become a subscriber on Patreon!Helpful Links from this EpisodePurchase My New Book Cape Cod Beyond the Beach! In My Footsteps: A Cape Cod Travel Guide(2nd Edition)Hooked By Kiwi - Etsy.comDJ Williams MusicKeeKee's Cape Cod KitchenChristopher Setterlund.comCape Cod Living - Zazzle StoreSubscribe on YouTube!Initial Impressions 2.0 BlogWebcam Weekly Wrapup PodcastCJSetterlundPhotos on EtsyCursor Effects - Tholman.comListen to Episode 194 hereSupport the show

In this episode the heroic cosmonauts Jef, Josh and Brian saved their last intergalactic horror chat for what is probably the most well known franchise to make it to the stars, the one and only "Jason X"! The crew aboard the SS Forever Midnight have grown weary and fear their bones and brains have been affected by the long journey through space and time. Their teeth have gotten skinny and Brian is experiencing celestial walnut brain syndrome. It is time to get back to earth 1, time to reintegrate back into human society. Soaring in the heavens this past month was a great idea on paper, but the cost physically and mentally for the crew was astro-nomical!

Last year there was talk of the new Strangers trilogy all being released in the same year. Perhaps wisely, that never happened. Instead, it is replacing a popular franchise on this year's release schedule. Friday the 13th is one of the most well-known horror franchises of all time. We were excited to hear that a prequel series would be coming. Years ago, Crystal Lake went quiet and we pretty much forgot about it. Out of nowhere, a recent casting announcement was made, and it's a good one that has got us eager again. When a movie is called L.A. Aids Jabber, it is hard not to worry. Especially when it is a shot on video from the early 1990s. SOV movies are very hit and miss and adding in a frightening disease as a scare tactic is a sure recipe for disaster. We were prepared for the worst. As it turns out, the film may be the nicest Aidsploitation movie ever made. There is none of the expected homophobia, jokes about sick people, or misconceptions about AIDS. Instead it focuses on its tale of murder, madness, and jabbin'. Over the top performances, subplots that go nowhere, and a nonsensical twist ending made this an absolute treat. At the other end of the spectrum, is A Cursed Man. It is a great idea. In order to discover if dark magic is real, a filmmaker decides to have a curse put on himself. It is similar to horror movies when someone does not believe in a talisman, urban legend, or ritual and decides to tempt fate. It does not take long for the documentary to go completely off the rails. The director admits to having no clear plan or direction, everyone laughs off what has decided to do, and worst of all, the subject is one of the most insufferable people ever captured on film. Even his own wife does not seem to take him seriously. The whole thing comes off as a carny act that is as frustrating as it is disappointing. Send us a textSome of the worst TV shows of the 70s. The brief return of 3-D movies in the 80s. Some great Made-for-TV movies.Episode 188 of the podcast celebrates spring with a colorful menagerie of nostalgia in bloom. It all begins with a look back at the relatively brief and somewhat unspectacular return of 3-D movies in the 1980s.
