Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning (1986) Directed By: Danny Steinmann Starring: Melanie Kinnaman, John Shepherd, Anthony Barrile, some other fuckin' little twerp. Well, it's Friday the 13th again, so we're baaaaack for another installment in our Friday the 13th... thing. Colin thinks just by wearing a hockey mask he can call himself Jason, since it was so easy for a guy named Roy to do it in Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning (1985). Get ready for the most random movie selection and one of the most bonkers pairings of movies we've done so far on Movies for Life! We are both big horror fans and we really haven't talked about THAT much horror on the show, so we came up with this random episode for that strange in-between time after Thanksgiving and before Christmas. So today we are talking about some often maligned horror sequels that we both actually really dig! First up is Brian's pick of the directorial debut of Anthony Perkins, a sequel to the movie that made him famous forever - PSYCHO III from 1986! We both think it's still just as good as the first sequel, PSYCHO II, if not a bit sleazy (but we're okay with that). And speaking of even more sleaze, the next movie to discuss is Michele's choice of 1985's FRIDAY THE 13th PART V: A NEW BEGINNING, directed by Danny Steinmann! It may not have Jason but it has Michele's favorite kill of the whole franchise and Brian's favorite character of the whole franchise! So listen to this fun and animated discussion to find out what those are! Follow us now on Instagram! Movies for Life: @MovieLifePod Brian Keiper: @brianwaves42 Michele Eggen: @micheleeggen

MOVIE DISCUSSION: Hulu continues to put out bangers, and Melvin & Dan discuss Not Okay, one of its latest successes! Topics: (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) Discussing They/Them, the controversial and questionable slasher set at a gay conversion camp, as well as some new Ezra Miller/Flash/Warner Brothers news. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) When Melvin first learned about Not Okay's description, he immediately knew he wanted to watch it. Melvin felt Not Okay had some influence from Friday the 13th: Part V: A New Beginning. Yes, he explains. Zoey Deutch and Dylan O'Brien were both in The Outfit, another movie from 2022. Melvin gives a mini review for that, while asserting the quality of their chemistry. Part of why Melvin texted Daniel about covering Not Okay is specifically to compare it to Dear Evan Hansen, so the two begin detailing key differences in quality and character between the two. By making the film more realistic and sensible, Not Okay succeeds in making its lead character both appropriately despicable and frustratingly sympathetic, both qualities that Dear Evan Hansen never achieves in its bizarro world depiction of horrible events. Daniel, "If you told me this was made as a response to [Dear Evan Hansen], I would believe you." The final sequence is the primary standout of Not Okay. This week we are talking "Piranha II The Spawning" and this just so happens to be our second James Cameron-directed flick this year... YEP, James Cameron directed this one, well 75% of it until he was fired for taking too many shots. For this one, we brought back our buddy Nick, who has helped us make sense of Munchie, Ghoulies, and more. Nick came prepared with some behind the scene stories and even noticed some parts of Piranha II that would show up in later James Cameron flicks. Piranha II had us discussing flying fish, boating a boat, an odd relationship with Anne and her son, dynamite fishing, and more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/Piranha2 The next sequel that will be discussed is a Friday the 13th even though we don't have any more Friday the 13ths this year and we are doing Part V: A New Beginning. This movie is the Halloween III of the Jason Voorhees saga because it tried something new that a lot of fans love and hate, it's quite the lightning rod. I was lucky enough to interview the Final Girl from it, our 1st Friday the 13th Survivor, Pam Roberts herself actress Melanie Kinnaman. Melanie talked about growing up in Boston, becoming a dancer in NYC, doing broadway and off broadway, her big-time commercials she did, landing Friday the 13th, a wild story about "Best of the Best", and more. I loved talking to Melanie about her career and we had a lot of laughs. Summer camp horror month continues with one of our most sleazy, shit talking (and some shit taking) filled episodes yet. Plus it takes place in the 80s so you know mountains of cocaine were involved. Oh and it's one of THOSE special Fridays of the year this week... we just had to. That's right, we're covering FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING (title gore). We follow the tale of a porno director turned horror film director who used his exploitation pedigree to create one of the most nudity filled films to get gutted horribly by the MPAA on the kill front. Don't worry though, there are still A LOT of them. Does the twist work? How bad was this franchise's reputation in the mid 80s? Was it deserved? Oh, and what did Alix miss out on by not paying for the premium version? It's nudity, it's always nudity. ENJOY! We also talk about where this film ranks in the Friday the 13th canon. Enjoy and let us know what you think.

It's one of the ReconCinemation team's favorite "holidays" of the year: Friday the 13th! With that, the bad boys of Podcasting are looking back at the next installment of that famous franchise: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING! It's the odd duck's turn at the plate as Jon, David & Brent break down, arguably, the most controversial entry of the franchise! From the decision to continue the series (after famously ending it with the previous film) to the interesting choice of Danny Steinman as director to the casting decisions (including a desperate move to retain Corey Feldman) to the controversial Scooby-Doo-style whodunit ending! Plus, early memories of the film, how it holds up today, where it ranks amongst the other films in the series, a discussion if it is the beginning of the end of the series & so much more! It's a fresh start in podcasting terror... it's FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING! Andy and Philip continue celebrating Friday the 13th Month with the arduous task of ranking the hotness of the series' victims in our segment Hot or Not…Alive, covering Part V: A New Beginning and Part VI: Jason Lives.
Continuing on with the Tommy Jarvis trilogy, this time it's TJarvs vs… Jason? Is it “trite trope” walking, or will the new beginning be a breath of fresh air? Find out, ‘cause we're talking Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning Many nights I have lain on this cold floor, responding to a possible question.
Tom Callahan joins Maggie & Jacob this week in the pursuit of finding happiness in Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning. This week, we might recommend maybe listening to our summary of the movie in our podcast instead of watching the movie. Although successful enough to produce many more sequels, this Friday the 13th movie may not quite reproduce the same suspense and love that the other movies in this franchise have received. But buckle up as we tackle a plethora of kills, gratuitous nudity, and characters that only appear to be killed off by (not) Jason.Listen to Tom Callahan's podcast, Do I Even Know You?, everywhere you listen to podcasts, or visit diekypod.com
As some of you may have noticed, despite being called "Slashers," our show did not do a proper slasher film in its entire first year. Now, we do two in a single episode! In this grand finale to our "New Year, 'New' Movies" event, we pit Friday the 13th Part V A New Beginning against Part VII The New Blood. Doug argues that Part V, A New Beginning, is the penultimate, while Adam contends that Part VII, The New Blood, is actually superior. Jake acts as the mediator, with Adrienne being the jury. There are no ties here, goons! We have a decisive winner. Part V was directed by Danny Steinmann, who actually directed porn! The movie makes a lot more sense now, right? This movie is famous for having two depictions of Jason Voorhees, with the slasher never actually appearing in the film. There is a Voorhees in the film, albeit the actress Deborah Voorhees. Doug talks everything in this movie from the kill count to Roy Burns arguably being the best Jason in the Friday the 13th video game. Part VII was directed by John Carl Buechler, a sultan in the world of special effects, ranging from Troll to Re-Animator. This film pits the actual Jason against a drove of teenagers marching onward to doom like Lemmings if you forget to press pause AND JEAN GREY FROM X-MEN! (kinda). If that analogy is true, that makes Tina Shephard's "Charles Xavier," Dr. Crews, played by Terry Kiser. Despite over 100 acting credits to his name, you most assuredly know him best as the titular Bernie, from Weekend at Bernie's. *cue the now-redundant Bernie Sanders meme* And, to be fair, with our audience you might also remember him from Tammy and the T-Rex. Adam argues the effects, atmosphere, and debut of Kane Hodder. Where do you stand on the debate? Did we get it right? Melanie Kinnamen is here and I try not to ask the same questions she has been asked for three decades. It’s halloween so ultimately we have to talk about that and Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning; the highest-grossing horror franchise in the world until the release of Halloween (2018), putting the Halloween franchise in the top spot. Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribune criticized the film for a perceived lack of originality, writing: "The new film is not really new. The same killer—a guy wearing a hockey mask and wielding a machete—still haunts a bunch of youngsters, mostly the inmates of a mental hospital," and added that there "is little suspense." We talk about that and MORE….This is My Alien Life!

The count to Halloween continues as Parallax Views celebrates the ladies of horror movies otherwise known as "Scream Queens"! From Janet Leigh in Psycho to her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween, a variety of actresses have appeared in scary movies over the years and made the role of women in horror a pivotal one to say the least. And, often times, the "Scream Queens" aren't just relegated to using their well-known superpowered lungs. Indeed many a horror film has featured females who fight back, especially in the form of the "Final Girl" trope, such as Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) in A Nightmare on Elm Street, Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) in the Scream franchise, and Alice Hardy (Adrienne King) in Friday the 13th among many others. So in order to celebrate the gals who add a feminine touch to the scary movies we all know and love I invited two actresses associated with the genre onto the program just in time for Halloween. That's right, it's another Parallax Views double feature! Two interviews for the price of one! First up...Linnea Quigley, the "Queen of the B's", joins us to discuss her long career in film and how she became one of the most recognizable "Scream Queens" of the 1980s due to her appearances in cult classics like Return of the Living Dead; Night of the Demons; Silent Night, Deadly Night; Graduation Day; Nightmare Sister; Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama; and Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers. Hell, she's even had the chance to pop out of Freddy Krueger's chest in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, a scene which has an interesting behind-the-scenes story you'll here in our conversation. And if that wasn't enough she's been the subject of documentaries (including the great Screaming in High Heels), appeared in music videos by rock bands like the Revolting Cocks and Motorhead, written an autobiography (The Linnea Quigley Bio & Chainsaw Book) and a memoir (I'm Screaming As Fast As I Can: My Life in B-Movies), and has her very own workout video aptly entitled the Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout. Seriously, how many Scream Queens have their very own workout video? As I say to Linnea during our conversation, "Eat your heart out Jamie Lee Curtis!"We cover all the bases we can in fast-paced half hour conversation with Linnea that manages to touch on her surreal experiences in Hollywood (including a marriage proposal story you'll never forget, the trials and tribulations of having make-up FX put on you, a tale of topless guerrilla filmmaking, the famous "deer antlers" murder scene in Silent Night, Deadly Night, and what it's like doing nudity on camera), her experiences in the punk scene (Linnea was as regular at punk rock club The Masque in L.A.), and her love of animals that has led her to vegetarianism and animal rights advocacy! All that and much more with the "Queen of the B's" Linnea Quigley!Then...In our second interview we speak with actress, journalist, and teacher Deborah Voorhees (aka Debi Sue Voorhees). As fans of the 80s slasher movie juggernaut that made Jason Voorhees a household name will tell you, Deborah portrayed the "Tina", who suffered a grisly fate at by way of garden shears in 1985's Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning. Since then, as previously mentioned, Deborah has gone on to careers in journalism and education, but lately horror movie fans have brought her back to the world of cinema. In fact, as of the recording of this interview, Deborah has just finished editing her directorial debut, 13: Fanboy. Returning to her horror roots, Deborah's 13: Fanboy is about a deranged fan who stalks the cast of the Friday the 13th series. The film features such Friday the 13th alumni as the original Friday the 13th's Adrienne King, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood's Lar Park Lincoln and Jennifer Banko, two different Jason Voorhees actors in the form of Kane Hodder and C.J. Graham, Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning's Ron Sloan, Friday the 13th Part III's Tracie Savage, and even Corey Feldman (who fans will remember appeared in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning). Hell, the movie even features a turn by Debra Sullivan who wrote the script for one of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies and an appearance by Dee Wallace of Joe Dante's The Howling, Steven Speilberg's E.T., Critters, Rob Zombie's The Lords of Salem, Stephen King's Cujo, and many other fan favorite genre features! Deborah describes the movie as both a psychological thriller that'll be enjoyed by viewers outside of the Friday the 13th fandom as well a a flick that promises a few good throwback and slasher moments for longtime fans of the Friday the 13th franchise. In this conversation Deborah and talk both about her experiences with Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning as well as the exciting project 13: Fanboy. Also, Deborah explains how her teaching career was abruptly ended when her students found out she was in Friday the 13th Part V. A few boys passed around pictures of her nude scene in the movie and this led to administrative officials to firing her just weeks before her students' graduation. But, believe, it or not this story has a touching end and an emotional moment between Deborah and her students, including one of the male students who passed around the pictures in question. All that and more on this special "INVASION OF THE SCREAMS QUEENS!" edition of Parallax Views! This Episode Brought to You By:The War State:The Cold War Origins of the Military-Industrial Complex and the Power Elite, 1945-1963byMichael SwansonofThe Wall Street Window

Movie of the Year: 1985 HorrorFriday the 13th, Part V: A New Beginning On an all-new Movie of the Year spinoff, the Taste Buds tackle the horror movies of 1985, starting with Friday the 13th, Part V: A New Beginning! There were too many horror movies in 1985, and literally none of them made the Elite 8, so Ryan and his good friend Tompkins decided to give them their own show! On this episode, Ryan and Tompkins are joined by Christina Ellsberg to discuss one of the worse movies the three of them have ever seen. It's a classic 80's franchise, but Friday the 13th V is a notorious misstep, where they removed Jason Voorhies, and didn't put much else back in. The Taste Buds do their best to analyze the film, while also creating a Mount Rushmore dedicated to the most iconic campsites in film history, and some Friday the 13th trivia! And Patreon members get a bonus show, where Ryan interviews two characters from inside the film! That seems like it's too much show, but there's even more than that! There's a man with no life in his eyes, and that man is Jason Voorhees! This week we're tackling the first in this robust franchise, Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning! We talk at great length about such topics as futuristic grave robbers, tense music in not-so-tense moments, and accidental impressions of Dave Chappelle doing a Rick James impression. We also shit all over the MPAA, Ben freaks out over Tom Morga's resume, and we ask the important question: does Jason Voorhees poop?

Let's dance with the ugly stepsister of the franchise, "Part V: A New Beginning" or "The One with the Ambulance Driver." We've got a rubber spider, bad enchiladas and one extremely sweet set of ta-tas. Are there conceptual intrigues here, buried beneath the body count? Do you think in wintertime Jason hibernates with the bears?
We are still staying on track with our Friday The 13th Marathon and this week we are on Part V: A New Beginning. Last time we saw Jason he was…well he was super dead. In fact he was being chopped up, with a machete, by young Tommy Jarvis. Well, now we catch up with Tommy some years later after he has been tossed around from home to home still troubled by the events of that very night. He ends up at a halfway house for troubled teens and from here the madness ensues. Someone starts picking off people in the area and house one by one and it seems to be Jason, but wait he’s dead it can’t be Jason! Or is it the deranged Tommy, who’s been consumed by the memory of Jason and just can’t take it anymore? Nah! It’s Roy, the medic from the beginning of the movie dressed as Jason, whose son died early on at the hands of one of the other teens. But we didn’t even know that was his son until the end and you only see Roy for like 2 seconds… --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bmoviebreakdown/support
