A Friday the 13th has landed in October, so Matt and Garret thought there was no better time than to rank the movies in the Friday the 13th franchise! Also, it's our 666th episode. No joke.
It's a Sportshour special with Caroline Barker at the Netball World Cup in Cape Town. It's the first time the tournament has been held in Africa and we'll hear from former Proteas players Zanele Mdodana and Vanes-Mari du Toit about the impact of hosting the event for South Africa. We'll also hear from Uganda's Peace Proscovia about how the game lifted her and her family out of poverty. It must be very special to represent your country. Doubly so if you can do it alongside your sister! Well, that's what Sasha and Kadeen Corbin did when they played for England, but as their career come towards a close, they are back - but not for England - this time they are proudly representing Barbados . On the side-line, we speak to arguably the best coach in the business, the defending champions New Zealand's Dame Noelene Taurua. We hear from a player who says climate change ended her career. Former Australian international Amy Steel says environmental change had a drastic, life changing effect on her health. Amy is part of the EcoAthletes collective, who focus on raising awareness of environmental issues. www.ecoathletes.orgWe'll also hear from England star Geva Mentor on the only trophy missing in her cabinet - a World Cup. Directed by: Steve Miner Starring: Betsy Palmer, Amy Steel, John Furey, Warrington Gillette, Steve Dash, Stuart Charno, Some Other Fuckers Months after Alice beheaded psycho killer/mother Pamela Voorhees at Camp Crystal Lake, survivor Alice is still traumatized because of the murders. But there is one problem: Mrs. Voorhees' son Jason never drowned and died. He's taken up the hobby of trying to blow soap bubbles inside of other bigger soap bubbles, but when one larger than his head pops and he gets soap in his eyes, it reminds him of when his mother used to give him a bath and the pain he felt when she didn't use "no more tears" shampoo. Now he's pissed and is looking for his own round of counselors to kill.
Australia may be a nation playing catch up in the sport/sustainability space but recent events suggest its moving rapidly in the right direction, led by athletes! Amy Steel and Emma Pocock join Jonathan and Melissa on Episode 14 to discuss playing for pride and purpose; including Donnell Wallam and the whole Australia Diamonds Netball Team, Amy's former colleagues, standing firm against an uncomfortable sponsorship and Cricket skipper Pat Cummins refusing to appear in ads for the main backer of Cricket Australia, a company which subsequently announced it wouldn't continue with the partnership. Also on the pod we hear from Melbourne City goalkeeper Melissa Barbieri, talking about the increased demands of the younger generations and the actions they want to translate as normal behaviour. Jonathan also gets the chance to quiz the Chief Executive of Origin Energy, Frank Calabria, one of the big sponsors in Australian sport. 1.30 Our first guest is Amy Steel, former Australia Netball International. Amy's still effected on a daily basis by the severe heat illness which wrecked her sporting career. 2.20. Amy gives us the background to the recent stand-off between the Australian Diamonds and sponsor Hancock Prospecting (with Netball Australia in the middle). 4.00 Jonathan explains the controversial history of the Netball Australia sponsors. 5.00. Amy tells us how Donnell Wallam bravely raised concerns with the Players Association and then Netball Australia about the deal. 08.00. Melissa's been listening in and offers her commentary on the Donnell Wallam story; praising the bravery of the individual and the solidarity of the team. 10.30. Melissa and Amy discuss the idea of "staying in your lane" as an athlete; what that actually means and how effective athletes can be in using their voices. 13.30. Jonathan outlines what some may feel is a conflict; the netball partnership with an energy company; Origin. It's a chance for us to explore whether partnerships with fossil fuel providers can have upsides; depending on the track record and ambition of the company involved. 14.00. We hear from Origin Chief Executive, Frank Calabria. He was speaking on an Origin webinar, first broadcast in October. Used with permission. 19.00 Amy gives her assessment of Origin and Frank's comments. Melissa says scrutiny is so important, such as in the British Cycling deal with Shell. 41.30. Emma says athletes rarely want to expose themselves to commenting in public. The wild success of the first Friday the 13th movie had Paramount Pictures frothing at the mouth for a sequel but the initial idea was to essentially treat the franchise as an anthology where each movie would involve an entirely new scary story. Some of the producers on the original film had a much different idea that the sequel should involve Jason Voorhees even though his appearance in the original film was essentially done in a nightmare sequence that was never expected to go any further than that movie. Steve Miner, who was an associate producer on the original film ran with that idea and he signed onto direct the next movie after Sean Cunningham opted not to return to the franchise he helped start. Miner came up with an idea that would carry the story five years into the future after the events in the original film as a new group of camp counselors are arriving to train for the summer ahead but they are completely unaware of the danger lurking in the woods….In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to put on mother's sweater and sharpen the pitchfork as we review the 1981 sequel “Friday the 13th Part 2”….
A cult classic without a cult following. "The Video Dead" shows us that just because you make a movie of "Troll 2" caliber doesn't mean you'll have a documentary made about your film a la "Best Worst Movie" (2009). Filled with phenomenal zombie makeups, plenty of gore and one of the best college majors ever touted on screen, "The Video Dead" proves to be one of the best worst movies Alex and Micah have watched to date. Plus, we find out which one of our Instagram contestants becomes the newest final girl, get a sneak peek of our interview with renowned final girl Amy Steel and find out why some peanut butters can damn your soul straight to hell. What is a common denominator between Harlan Marks, Amy Steel, Christopher Walken, Richard Dreyfuss, Sela Ward, and Chris Cooper? We all have been acting students of Harlan's Episode 11 guest, his real-life Kominsky, Bob McAndrew. Bob's teaching draws from a wide range of sources but primarily from the legendary Wynn Handman. A film acting coach, he has worked with directors John Huston, Alan Pakula, and Luc Besson. He's taught internationally - in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, and Buenos Aires. Here is a partial list of actors he's coached or taught - Raul Julia, Christopher Walken, Chris Cooper, Sela Ward, John Stamos, Gloria Reuben, David Paymer, Corbin Bernsen, Tom Selleck, Sam Elliot, and Jon Lindstrom. Harlan can personally attest that his techniques and coaching give actors the tools to explore, let go of tension and build a strong character, all of which allow actors to take risks and feel confident in those risk choices. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/harlan-marks/message

Clocking in at a brisk 87 minutes (shorter than the length of this episode!) this quickie sequel cranks up the scares, the gore and the casual nudity - not to mention the wall-to-wall cute boys. Pretty-boy Scott (Russel Todd), sensitive Mark (Tom McBride), oversexed Jeff (Bill Randolph), even prankster Ted (Stuart Charno) can all hit it six ways to Sunday. Even square head-counselor Paul (John Furey) is serving up major 80's hottie vibes. At the end of the day, final-girl Ginny played by Amy Steel is the real MVP of this one. Donning full Mrs. Voorhees drag, she goops and gags Jason to take the crown and make it out of Camp Crystal Lake alive... barely. Join your late night horror hosts Dan and Faith for a look back at 1981's slasher sequel FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, a pivotal moment in the franchise as it properly introduced audiences around the world to Jason, the killer who would go on to achieve iconic status once he donned his signature hockey mask (you've got to wait for part 3 to see that happen...patience!) . The goalie from hell is in an embryonic stage here, wearing overalls and sporting a canvas sack over his disfigured face, but once the killing starts there's absolutely no doubt this is the slasher we all know and love. The massive success of the first two installments of Friday the 13th had proven to be box office gold. In 1982, Paramount wanted to keep the kill count high with a 3rd film in the franchise. After part 2 star Amy Steel turned down a returning role, director Steve Miner and company decided to capitalize on the resurgence of 3D technology to redefine the movie. The end result is a campy slasher that focuses a little too much on 3D scares, but ends up creating the key elements that define the entire Jason lore and became one of the most lucrative films in the entire series. We’re going to Camp Blood, so Someone find Shelly’s box of pranks, Damon better eat our stash before the cops find us, ready your harpoons, dust off your 3D glasses and try to keep your eyeballs in your skull, because we’re crushing heads this week on Rewind of the Living Dead with Friday the 13th, Part III, 3D.
This is an extract from episode 73 featuring the end of my conversation with Amy Steel, former Australian netballer, global EcoAthletes and Sports Environment Alliance Ambassador, and Senior Manager | Sustainability and Climate Change at Deloitte, and Lily Brazel, now former Australian hockey player, global EcoAthletes Ambassador, and founder of Stature Clothing (including its podcast The State of Us). We pick up here with Lily's bombshell, letting go of her lifelong dream of playing for the Hockeyroos at the Olympics. And we follow the threads through navigating change and our deeper purpose, empowering sports people to step up on what matters most, and the stories that connect us to our genuinely ‘super' human nature. Leading into the next Australian summer here again evokes images of last summer's horror fires. Caught up in that cataclysmic event were mass cancellations of sporting events, and extensive damage to sporting facilities and clubs across the country. Since then, the northern hemisphere fires, and of course the related pandemic (another symptom of destabilised planetary conditions), rammed home the message - just how vulnerable we are on our current trajectory. That has spurred another level of engagement by sports people and organisations everywhere, to help us change that trajectory. Sport is such an important, enlivening and powerful part of societies everywhere, so the value of sport in this transition can't be understated. So here's the back end of my conversation with two international athletes who have felt all this acutely, and are stepping up in brilliant ways. You can hear the rest of our conversation in the main episode, ‘The Biggest Sports Story: Climate, business and a sense of ultimate success' - https://www.regennarration.com/episodes/073-the-biggest-sports-story You'll find a series of photos on that web page too. Amy Steel and Lily Brazel are outstanding international athletes. Well, Amy was. Until a heat stroke after a pre-season game prematurely ended her career. Still suffering the effects today, she's set upon a path of working with big business to help achieve perhaps humanity's greatest milestone - meeting the Paris Climate Agreements. Amy's quickly established herself as Senior Manager, Sustainability and Climate Change at Deloitte, while also being a global Ambassador for EcoAthletes and the Australian Sports Environment Alliance. Lily's a slightly different story. Still at the outset of her international sports career, as part of the Hockeyroos – the successful Australian women's hockey team – Lily was in training for the postponed Tokyo Olympics. This was a lifelong dream. But dropping a bombshell just prior to this conversation, she revealed she's resigned from the team. In Lily's case, it was the start of her international career that was transformative. And living by her values is forging a changing path. That path includes founding a business called Stature Clothing, a sports clothing brand with the mantra to ‘repair, repurpose & regenerate – that waste is not an option'. Leading into the next Australian summer here again evokes images of last summer's horror fires. Caught up in that cataclysmic event were mass cancellations of sporting events, and extensive damage to sporting facilities and clubs across the country. From out of this world and onto our television, we get invaded by 1982’s alien superhero drama with an identity crisis, The Powers of Matthew Star!! Or is it David Star? This is definitely the first show we’ve watched that can’t even get it’s main character’s name right. Louis Gossett Jr. shows up (with hair!) as does everyone’s favorite Friday the 13th Part II star, Amy Steel. Sparks fly, busses crash, and projectors burst into flame as we watch another pick from TV Guide’s 50 Worst TV Shows of All Time, so you know we’ve got a real winner on our hands... Also, we debut two new segments, dive into some fascinating trivia about the show and discuss the science behind mega-pooping! Plus, Morgan lays down some Grease trivia (including what song is about a penis!), gets excited by the notion of an adults only round of Double Dare, and is very curious about where Rick Flair got his “Nature Boy” nickname. Meanwhile, Mike rants about Final Girls and the rules of slasher movies, lays out the WWE policy on swearing, and proposes an alternate plot about a “Magic Wizard” that plays video games. Just imagine a movie that Ginny from Friday the 13th Part 2 and Biff from Back to the Future both were in. Now imagine how awesome that movie would be. Well it turns out that you are imagining a different movie than April Fool's Day. Now, both Thomas F. Wilson and Amy Steel are both in April Fool's Day, it's just not awesome. Whatever term you want to use that is the complete opposite of awesome probably would be a better fit. But, don't let that deter you from listening to this episode. The guys still put together a great episode. Unlike the movie.
