FOTOS DE RAFA Autor: Rafa Irusta, Canon 1D Mark III - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L, EXIF: 1/13s f14 ISO100 24mm

Sony has announced the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II (SEL85F14GM2) a premium lens offering a supreme blend of high resolution and stunning bokeh with fast autofocus (AF) in a compact body. This is a second-generation lens that inherits the optical design that achieved a high-level fusion of bokeh and resolution that was highly praised in the first-generation model, and generously incorporates the latest technology. When paired with the latest Sony's Alpha series cameras, it is an ideal option for a wide variety of creative uses in both photography and videography, including portraiture, wedding, travel, and cinematic video. "In 2016 we launched our G Master lineup and the first generation 85 mm F1.4 lens was one of the three lenses part of that pivotable moment for Sony. Our goal with our G Master line is to design glass that delivers stunning resolution and beautiful bokeh, while incorporating the highest level of technology available at the time, and we are proud to continue that message with the next-generation FE 85mm F1.4 GM II we are announcing today," said Yann Salmon Legagneur, Head of IP&S Marketing, Sony Europe. "We know how many photographers and videographers rely on the large aperture 85 mm focal length. We are excited to offer an updated version packed with our latest lens technologies, all while maintaining a lightweight lens and extremely compact in size." High Optical Performance & Beautiful Bokeh The advanced and refined optical design and elements of the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II bring together appealing bokeh and enhanced high resolution, making it ideal for portrait photography. Packed with two XA (extreme aspherical) and two ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses, the state-of-the-art optical design effectively suppresses aberrations. This combination offers corner-to-corner resolution and rendering, resulting in outstanding image quality. Moreover, Sony's original Nano AR Coating II technology effectively subdues flare and ghosting for clear, crisp images. The 11-blade circular aperture and optimisation of spherical aberration during the design and manufacturing process provide the beautiful, soft bokeh that is the hallmark of G Master series. Fast, Precise, Quiet Autofocus and High Tracking Performance The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II's AF is agile, maximising the speed advantage of advanced camera bodies. For stills, it is up to 3 times fastericompared to the previous modelii, tracking moving subjects with high precision. It keeps up flawlessly with the Alpha 9 III's 120fpsiiicontinuous shooting, and subject tracking performance is improved by as much as 7 timesii. Lightweight and Stylish Design without Compromises Compared to the current FE 85mm F1.4 GMi, the weight of the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II (642 grams, 22.7 oz.) is approximately 20% lighterivand 13% smaller in volume, which is achieved through the latest mechanical technology and optical design. The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II has a filter diameter of ?77 mm, diameter of 84.7 mm (about 3-3/8 in) and length of 107.3 mm (about 4-1/4 in). Effective Cinematic Creation Features For smooth movie creation at F1.4, the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II has an XD linear motor. Focus breathing is minimal, and in-body focus breathing compensationv is supported. It has two customisable focus hold buttons and an AF/MF switch offer flexible operability, while an independent aperture ring and Linear Response MF focus control provide the kind of intuitive control that creative shooting demands. Crafted for Durability The front lens element features a fluorine coating, which makes it easy to remove fingerprints, dust, oil, and other contaminants from the lens surface. The dust and moisture resistant designvi provides extra reliability for outdoor use in challenging conditions. Pricing and Availability The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II will be available in September 2024 for approximately €2,100 EUR at a variety of Sony's authorised dealers. Yesterday, Sony added two more cameras to its line of interchangeable cameras which brought the line to no less than 18 total choices from entry-level through professional. That is just too many. Today’s podcast episode is once again brought to you by OM SYSTEM. For over 80 years, OM SYSTEM has been pushing the limits of technology to put the most advanced cameras and lenses in the hands of photographers and visual creators. Whether photographing grizzly bears in the Alaskan wilderness, documenting the most remote landscapes in the world, or capturing those once-in-a-lifetime moments with your family, the OM SYSTEM line of cameras and lenses was designed for the task. OM SYSTEM is making truly incredible advancements that make the lives of us photographers both easier and more exciting. Visit explore.omsystem.com/PetaPixel to learn more. Sony has made it a company policy to discontinue camera bodies and lenses as infrequently as possible, which has the advantage of giving buyers more choice when it comes to determining how to spend their money. Continuing to sell the Sony a7 II, for example, even though there a7 IV is the most recent addition to that section of the line allows a photographer to decide to spend less on a camera if they don't think they need as many features. But on the flip side, it results in a camera line that has an amorphous beginning and end. Seeing so many choices ends up becoming more of a detriment than a benefit. In this week's PetaPixel Podcast, Chris, Jordan, and Jaron talk about this problem and do their best to point out how difficult it has become to recommend a specific camera for a specific use case given the bloated nature of Sony's camera line. Additionally, the trio talks the latest news including the booming popularity of Ricoh's GR III and a new lens patent from Canon that is easily the weirdest design they've ever seen. We use Riverside to record all our episodes in our online recording studio. Discussed in this Episode: 00:00 - Intro 3:59 - The GR III is so popular, Ricoh can't keep it in stock 8:42 - Demand for cameras is exploding in China 10:28 - Canon's latest lens patent is one of the weirdest designs we've ever seen 14:47 - Sony completes the G Master zoom trifecta 21:15 - Sony expands the "Compact" line with two new additions 30:00 - What is Sony thinking? It's camera line is too bloated 47:47 - What have you been up to? 54:31 - Never read the comments We hope you enjoy the podcast and we look forward to hearing what you think. What You Should Know Before Buying a 135mm Lens

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 16, 2022 4:37

We're streaming daily on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Pocket Casts, and Spotify! You can also listen to it right here on The Phoblographer. The 135mm lens is a magical wonder for many photographers. It's a long lens, and arguably it's the longest practical portrait lens. In the past, many photographers have loved and adored the lens for more than just portraits, though. It's a great candid lens; you can be far from a subject before being noticed. The 135mm lens has lots of desirable qualities about it. And if you're a certain type of photographer, it may just never leave your camera. Before you make the commitment, though, let's go over a few things. They're Arguably the Best Portrait Lens, But They've Got Tradeoffs The 135mm is considered by many photographers to be the perfect focal length for portraits. Optically speaking, no one looks bad when you shoot with them. They give the right compression level to faces, bodies, heads, cheeks, noses, etc. As the years have gone on, they've become better. Though these days, they're arguably a bit too clinical for lots of photographers. Some really legendary ones are the Canon 135mm f2 L, Sigma 135mm f1.8, Sony 135mm f1.8 G Master, Sony 135mm f1.8 A-Mount, and the Zeiss 135mm Milvus lens. We've used all of them both in studios and on locations. Indeed, shooting with a 135mm lens requires you to think differently than you would with any other lens. If that's already intimidating you, you should probably stop here. Otherwise, continue on and check out some of the best 135mm lenses we've tested. They're Long First off, attach a 135mm lens to your camera bag. You'll realize that it's very long and thin. It's a really, truly big prime lens. If you're the type of photographer that likes small lenses, steer away from the 135mm lens. Reach for an 85mm lens instead. 85mm lenses are still excellent, as is something like a 55mm lens too. What's more, a 135mm lens gets even longer when you put a lens hood on. The newer ones are a lot more clinical. So personally, I'd shoot with one without a lens hood on. Instead, I'd put a polarizing filter to make the color pop a bit more. Otherwise, there's the PrismFX stuff that we've reviewed. They're Hard to Get and Keep a Subject in Focus 135mmm lenses are notoriously hard to get in focus. If you're on a DSLR, you need to nail the focusing point and ensure that you don't move. With mirrorless cameras, there's face detection and eye detection. After you get it in focus, you need to make sure tracking is on to constantly follow the eye or the face. At f1.8, they're super hard to get in focus. I think the easiest 135mm lens I've ever worked with is the Zeiss Batis 135mm f2.8. It's an autofocus lens and the slowest of the bunch. But it's also pretty nice with its render. Most people have shaky hands. They'll probably end up shooting portraits in burst mode and have to cull through hundreds if not thousands of photos later on. Otherwise, you can shoot on a tripod and carefully focus. If you happen to be good at handholding a lens, you're not going to have an issue. You Need a Lot of Room to Use Them 135mm lenses are going to render super tight if you don't have a lot of room. So if you're shooting indoors, be sure you can have at least 10 feet between you and a subject at a minimum. Arguably, the best thing to do is to shoot outside. If you shoot outside, you have a lot more creativity with where you can shoot. But, of course, you lack the control that indoor shoots can give you. Usually, 135mm lenses are more of a pain than what they're worth. But I'll admit that they can create beautiful photos.

The Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master lens is the 31st lens in Sony's full-frame, e-mount lineup. I quickly fell in love with this lens - it is outstanding. Designed for longer portraits, this has some of the best optical rendering that I've seen on any lens to date. This is the ultimate portrait lens. Bokeh is excellent, it has outstanding sharpness and the autofocus speeds are impressive. This has the same XD linear drive system that is found in the Sony 400mm f/2.8 G Master as well as the Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master lenses. One correction - around 03:17 I say there's little spherical aberration at small apertures when in face I meant to say diffraction. This is where the sharpness softens in the lens and for most lenses this starts around f/16. Its been a long week - sorry for the confusion. What about the Fujifilm 16mm f/1.4 compared to the Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master

Is the Fujifilm 16mm f/1.4 comparable to the new Sony 24mm f/1.4? In short, its a tough comparison. They both have the same field of view in the end result - one is full frame and the other is designed for APS-C mirrorless. But physically they are 2 different focal lengths. These mean different designs, different intent and so on. But since we're talking about the Fujinon 16mm f/1.4, this is one of my favorite lenses of all time regardless of system. Its an incredible wide angle with excellent contrast, sharpness and bokeh. It has a minimum focusing distance of just under 6 inches and is fast enough to use in low light and get great results. • 13 elements in 11 groups • 2 aspherical and 2 extra low dispersion elements • f/1.4 to f/16 aperture range (22 stops) • 1/3 stop increments • 9 blades (rounded diaphragm opening) • Focus Range – 15cm to infinity • filter size - 67mm • Autofocus Motor: DC coreless Music is from Epidemic Sound. The Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 G Master is the 30th lens in the Sony native E-mount lineup designed for full frame alpha cameras. Following the 400mm f/2.8, it uniquely designed both optically and mechanically. The optic design delivers both an extremely high resolution and a smooth and gorgeous depth of field. Its a compact and lightweight addition to the G-Master line and features a Direct Drive SSM focusing system for greater thrust, accuracy and high speed compatibility for video and continuous shooting on cameras such as the Sony A9. • 13 elements in 10 groups • 11 blade circular diaphragm • 2 XA elements • 3 ED elements • 9.4 inch minimum focusing distance • light weight and compact Music is from Epidemic Sound. WORLD CUP lens of the future :: Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM Telephoto lens

Since we can't support the USA in the World Cup, the next best thing is clearly the brand new Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 G Master telephoto lens! Sony has officially stepped into the professional sports photography arena with its new zoom lens. Weighing over 2 lbs lighter than the Nikon 400mm f/2.8 E FL ED VR is 11.47 and the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L USM, the Sony 400mm GM also features a more balanced design, sharper image rendition and faster autofocus supporting the Sony A9's 20 frames per second shooting speed. This lens is extremely significant, not only being better than the competition optically and mechanically, but it also represents what Sony has been striving for with mirrorless cameras providing the best in class system for sports and wildlife photography. Sony contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I'd like to come to New Jersey to photograph soccer. I jumped at the opportunity to photograph the New York Red Bulls play FC Dallas. So the USA did not make it far in the World Cup, but this shows us what the possibilities that the future holds - not only for the World Cup but also for photography. While Sony did bring me to New Jersey to test this lens, this video is not sponsored and the opinions here are my own.
