This is The Digital Story Podcast #884, Feb.28, 2023. Today's theme is "AI Photo Editing on Your Smartphone." I'm Derrick Story. Opening Monologue Using AI editing tools on a smartphone makes even more sense than on your computer. Image enhancement on mobile devices is not the easiest task in the world. Their smaller screens and less precise input (aka our fingers) present a bit of a challenge. AI tools can help, and today, we're going to look at one such offering from Skylum that can really speed things up. Focus stacking is the procedure of taking a number of photos from a fixed position and adjusting the focus between each frame, then using software to combine the focused portions of each image into a finished image. Skylum's Luminar Neo now has a module available that will take the image sequence and combine them into a finished image with a deeper range of focus! Simply import the images into Neo, then drag them over and drop them onto the module! Fred and Jim check out the new module.

Recorded 20th October 2019 This week Apple said iOS 13 reached 50% adoption, Apple TV appeared on Roku, iPhoto finally reached the end of the road. Google told us why the Pixel 4 isn't 5G, Adobe say Photoshop for iPad will appear this year, and Pebble watches are still living on due to the “Rebble Alliance”. Meanwhile the US finally gave up on 8“ floppy disks... But more important than all that stuff Simon is joined by Alex Tsepko, CEO of Skylum, to talk about what's in store for Luminar 4 due for release November 18th. GIVEAWAYS & OFFERS We had four licences for BeLight's new vector application Amadine to give away. Names out of the hat were: Alan Vickers, Dan Murphy, Bart Busschots and Guy Serle! Recorded 8th December 2018 This week a slightly different show as I am deeply privileged to have as my special guest David Acklam, not a name you may know, but he was part of the development team for the Global Positioning System. Skylum has released their latest version of Aurora HDR software. So this morning I downloaded the latest version and started experimenting with it. I've been doing High Dynamic Range Photography for over a decade now. I started out with Photomatix Pro, and last year tried out Aurora. There are some things I like, and some things I don't. I've used HDR for my landscape photography and travel photography for a decade now. HDR has come a long way, and Skylum might be on the right track. There will also be a follow up to this podcast on YouTube later today or tomorrow morning, so click the YouTube link below to see Aurora HDR in action. Recorded 1st July 2018 I am joined by Alex Tsepko the CEO of Skylum Software to talk about Photolemur, Luminar, what happened to the DAM module, and Aurora HDR... Actually the interview was done in two parts because we had issues trying to record while Alex was driving across the Ukraine... (who'd have guessed that?) But regardless of that we got a really great interview. Also Suffolk Pete (@hermboy) and I chew over the news of the week. Why not come and join the Slack community? Recorded 12th November 2017 This week we are joined by Kevin La Rue of Macphun - now renamed Skylum Software, to talk about Luminar, Macphun photo software, the change to Skylum Software, Dark Castle, Silicon Beach and and as usual any other stuff that cropped up in the world of Apple and tech over the last week or so. It's quite a long show as Kevin was keen to share with us, so get a brew, settle down and prepare to hear all about things he's been involved with all the way back to the dawn of the Mac! On this week's show: We redid the website. I went through finding and fixing the problems caused by moving the hosting from SquareSpace to WordPress - mostly fixing missing images or broken audio players. I am back to show 25 so there are still some to work through. Also we gave the site a make over with a nicer theme than the basic one we implemented. We haven't 100% done yet but the new theme looks so much better than the previous one.
