Alistair Baldwin, Jess Walton, Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan at the Wheeler Centre — Photo: Sophie Quick Finally, Australian comedy is seeing a broader range of voices represented in writers' rooms, on screen and behind the scenes. It's making our entertainment funnier and sharper – and it's enhancing its appeal for more Australians. For Season Two of Get Krack!n co-creators Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney made inclusion and accessibility a production and creative focus. They co-wrote Episode Three, the Kates' ‘one-day-of-the-year 30-minute International Day of People Living with a Disability special', with disability activist Jess Walton and included artists like Adam Hills, Deaf performers Anna Seymour and Ashleigh Kedge and the musicians from The Sisters of Invention. In this discussion, hosted by Alistair Baldwin and presented in partnership with The Other Film Festival, we speak with artists who worked on that hilarious and game-changing series. What was the process in the writers' room and how did producers create an accessible production environment for all artists, cast and crew? What did they learn, what will they improve in future production processes and how can the screen sector, more broadly, go about making space for people who have not traditionally been represented across, and behind, our screens? Presented in partnership with The Other Film Festival and Arts Access Victoria with the support of City of Melbourne and Screen Australia.Support the Wheeler Centre: https://www.wheelercentre.com/support-us/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Timba is a multi-disciplinary graphic artist, illustrator (and part-time day dreamer) whose work spans across both analog and digital mediums. Originally from down under, he spent much time living in London before moving to his current home-base of Berlin. AND it’s his birthday! Remember! We are now an ENHANCED podcast. Robyn Lambird doesn't need your prayers, thanks! At the time of this interview, already an accomplished wheelchair athlete, public figure and the first visibly disabled adult to appear in a nationwide ad campaign in Australia, the 19-year-old is doing just fine. We chat about the amusing (and annoying) reactions people have to you when you're visibly disabled, going to stadium concerts in a wheelchair, and how things seem to be improving for people with disabilities in our lifetimes. Robyn was born with cerebral palsy and explains where the nickname "T-Rex" comes from. This is the first episode of the new season, after JASP's hiatus. This interview is one from the vault, from before I became too overwhelmed to keep doing this podcast, and I'm so glad I get to share it with you. Our chat was recorded in mid-2016, if you can even recall such a time. You can find Robyn on Instagram (@robynlambird) and YouTube (www.youtube.com/user/ATREXLIFE). Read more of Robyn's story in this NDIS feature: https://www.ndis.gov.au/robynstory Robyn mentions Starting With Julius, a Perth-based not-for-profit organisation that works to improve media representation for people with disability. Find out more about them here: http://www.startingwithjulius.org.au/ Get Krack!n airs Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC (Australia) and episodes are available on iview. Having conquered the cutthroat world of satirical online cooking shows with The Katering Show (Australian TV's all-time most viewed digital series), the two Kates are ready to take their trademark sassy swipe at morning lifestyle television in Get Krack!n, a new series for Seeso and ABC. Each morning the Kates will shuffle through a roster of unsafe demonstrations, surly guests, unprepared experts and the over-lit decomposition of the duo’s already rocky relationship. Viewers will quickly discover that McLennan and McCartney will leave no cultural touchstone unturned, even though they are in no capacity qualified to speak on them, or on anything for that matter. As always, neither of the women has any sense of on-camera technique. While McCartney’s Daria-esque enthusiasm is a total miss-match to the bright and breezy format, McLennan’s hosting is imbued with a fetid air of desperation. The show should be McCartney and McLennan’s Big US Break. But, like any televisual format that the Kates put their rough, manly hands to, things on Get Krack!n will go downhill fast. This Q&A with Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney followed the screening of the first two episodes.
