In this episode, I conduct an in-person interview with the Assistant Director of the British School at Athens, Dr Giorgos Mouraditis. Giorgos' research focuses on athletic self-representation in inscriptions from the Hellenistic and Imperial periods.  Listeners will be familiar with the British School of Athens from the last episode when I met with its Director, Professor Rebecca Sweetman, to discuss the exciting public engagement work that the institute is working on.  I returned to the BSA for a short visit in May of this year during the fieldwork I am conducting for my thesis chapter in Greece. I thought it might be fun to throw my mic in my rucksack and do some field interviews while I am on the road!Giorgos' upcoming project, ‘Athletics and Paideia' investigates the role of monuments in preserving and the diffusion of knowledge about Hellenic culture and civic education. I met a great bunch of Juve fans which were fun to hang around with even if it was so briefly and it really ignited my passion to interact with other fans of our great club. I could almost say that meeting the fans was a primary reason to start a podcast, which was then founded in my chance through Al's podcast, no I can't stop thanking him he deserves it. But we go into the beginning of how it all started for Farah and bring up some interesting details about her life as well. So many great stories and such a kind and inspiring fan as she continues to trek to Turin for so many games, including being there right before COVID-19 really hit. Undécimo programa en el que volaremos sobre Watford, Inglaterra, donde nos encontraremos con este dúo histórico del pop como fue Wham! y su líder, George Michael. La historia de Wham! comenzó en el lejano 1975, cuando los entonces treceañeros Andrew Ridgeley y Georgios Panayiotou se conocieron en la Bushey Meads Comprehensive School. Los dos adolescentes se hicieron amigos en el acto al descubrir que tenían en común una gran pasión por la música. Cuatro años más tarde fundaron su primera banda: Executive. Como género musical, eligieron el ska, que convirtieron en música de fondo de las noches de los diversos locales en los que actuaban. Además de Andrew y Georgios, Executive estaba formado por David Austin, Andrew Leaver y Paul Ridgeley, hermano de Andrew. Pero el grupo no conseguía funcionar, y se disolvió tras tan sólo dieciocho meses de actividad. Sin embargo, Andrew y Giorgios siguieron juntos y grabaron algunas maquetas que enviaban periódicamente a las compañías discográficas. Pero su situación no mejoraba: Ridgeley estaba en paro, mientras que Georgios (que por entonces comenzó a hacerse llamar por el seudónimo de George Michael) no conseguía nada mejor que algunos trabajos temporales. Episode 64 I just got back from Bonaire so we have a misbehaving donkey story, lots of celebrities on the airplane and one fast moving Italian.  Since we are talking about famous folks, Arthur Frommer actually does the lead in...how fun is that?
