Text: Prov 19:10 ESV 10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, much less for a slave to rule over princes. -Prov 19:10 ESV UNFIT FOR THE TASK Both the fool and slave are unfit for the task of managing riches and kingdom, respectively. The fools, who are immoral and unwise, can become wealthy (Psa 37:7; 73:3] But, when they do, it's an unwelcome sight. A fool fails to understand that every possession has been entrusted to him by God (Mat 25:14–15). Instead of using his wealth and luxurious belongings for God's glory, he hoards and squanders everything for himself (Mat 6:19–20; Luke 12:20–21) And, he trusts in riches for security more than God (Prov 18:11). Slaves are unfit to rule as princes, are they not? This is not a slight for the servants for this focuses more to their competence not status. Skills and not class, are in mind in this proverb. Take for example Joseph, he was a "slave" but was repeatedly given enormous authority because of his godly wisdom (Gen 39:1–6, 20–23; 41:38–40).. In most cases, slaves are not prepared to rule. It appears absurd to think that their roles are interchanged. It does follow that when a person has competence, he may rule. This makes education and character essential in one's life. The knowledgeable person governs the ignorant. Thus, the statement, ‘knowledge is power' is true. ------------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram
Text: Prov 18:11-12 ESV 11 A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination. 12 Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. -Prov 18:11-12 ESV A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY Riches do tempt people towards a false sense of security, don't they? The love of wealth can interfere with our spiritual walk for it numbs us to our dependence on God (Mat 19:23). Obviously, there are practical advantages to money. A rich person can overcome a lot of setbacks and complications in life more easily than a poor person. Yet, money neither can do everything nor secure our souls eternally. God may allow war, economic collapse, and other factors to destroy man's wealth in an instant. Definitely, money cannot achieve the impossible. Thinking of wealth as a stable source of security is a wishful thinking. Many work tirelessly to build a fortune, only to discover later that trusting in wealth for security is like building house upon a sand. Jesus tells a parable that wealth and possessions may collapse as surely and as swiftly as a house built on sand collapses in a violent storm (Mat 7:26–27). Even if money would last to the end of one's earthly life, it can't be brought along into eternity (1 Tim 6:7; Luke 12:16–21). In Proverbs 23:4,5, Solomon gives cautions: "Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven." Amid his trials, Job reflected on the fact that he had not put excessive trust in his gold. He knew better than to feel secure in riches (Job 31:24–25). The abundance of money may corrupt one's heart to become proud. He might be oblivious to his mistake. This deception due to a wrong perspective on money is also echoed in Prov 11:2, that says, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. This is also enforced by Prov 16:18, “ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Today, may we will learn to draw our confidence in Christ alone. Like Paul, we may say, “11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”[Phil 4:11-13] ------------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

Text: Mark 12:38-40 ESV 38 And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces 39 and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, 40 who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” - Mark 12:38-40 ESV BEWARE OF THE SCRIBES Previously, Jesus has commended a scribe of the Pharisees for his understanding that loving God and others is more important than following the regimented Mosaic law. He even says the scribe is close to finding the kingdom of God (Mark 12:28–34). Shortly after, Jesus uses Scripture and logic to prove that although the Messiah is the Son of David, His authority to rule comes directly from God (Mark 12:35–37). Here, Jesus goes on the offensive to warn the people to beware of the scribes. The scribes are very knowledgeable about the law. But, their vanity and pride of their expertise in the Law leads them to miss the truth about the Messiah. Jesus exposes their lifestyle by saying, they “walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, 40 who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers.” They dress to attract the adoration of people. They loved ‘greetings.' Matthew explains that the scribes like to be called "rabbi" (Mat 23:7). Jesus says that to seek out the title of rabbi, father, or instructor is dangerous and opposite to servant leadership. [Mark 9:33-37,10:35-45] They pray long pretentious prayers. "Pretense" is from the Greek root word prophasis, which means "for show, with a false motive." One of the problems with praying for worldly reasons is that you only get worldly rewards (Mat 6:5). Here is only a quick synopsis of Jesus' condemnation of the scribes and Pharisees. Matthew has more details in Mat 23. Jesus calls the religious leaders vipers sentenced to hell. He compares them to Cain, who killed his brother Abel out of jealousy for his relationship to God (Mat 23:33, 35). Yet, Jesus shows compassion. He then mourns for Jerusalem and its people who kill the prophets God sends to draw them to Him (Mat 23:37–39). Jesus pronounces judgment to hard hearted people only after He showed compassion to them. ------------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

We often see/hear this phrase in the modern Christian community: "Jesus is coming back." As with most concepts in the Church, there's always a scripture reference to support. The most popular textual reference for the 'coming of Jesus' is Mat 24:1-3. In this episode, I will challenge you to take a second look at the narrative and ask if we can confidently say that Jesus is coming back in our lifetime or after.

Text: Psalm 48:1-14 1 Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, 2 beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. 3 Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress. 4 For behold, the kings assembled; they came on together. 5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded; they were in panic; they took to flight. 6 Trembling took hold of them there, anguish as of a woman in labor. 7 By the east wind you shattered the ships of Tarshish. 8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God, which God will establish forever. Selah 9 We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple. 10 As your name, O God, so your praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness. 11 Let Mount Zion be glad! Let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments! 12 Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, 13 consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation 14 that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever. -Psa 48:1-14 ESV LET MOUNT ZION BE GLAD! Clearly, in the bible, the city of Jerusalem has been referred to as a symbol of God's power and majesty. This city of Israel's great God (Mat 5:35) was located on Mount Zion (Psa 2:6). It was David who took over Mt. Zion from the Jebusites (2 Sam 5:6–9; 2 Chron 11:4–7). However, it did not become "holy" until David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem and installed it there. Thus, Mount Zion became God's holy dwelling (Psa 99:9). Is it not that only the presence of a holy God makes a place holy? Even a spot in the desert was declared holy because God chose to be present there (Ex 3:4–5). This beautiful city in elevation may describe its location at the hill just south of old Jerusalem, and at other times it refers to the temple mount. The mention of Zion's location "in the far north" refers to the position of the temple mount within ancient Jerusalem. Many years later, Jerusalem has brought joy to all the earth. Jesus died outside the city (Heb 13:12; Mark 15:20) to pay the penalty of sin and give eternal life to all who believe in Him as their Savior (John 3:16–18). Within her citadels, God has made himself known as a fortress.[v.3] He was their "fortress:" their protection. Indeed, "the LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you." [Psa 9:9,10] Similarly, our salvation is assured. Jesus promised, "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand" (John 10:28–29). Those who dared to attack Jerusalem were dumbfounded, The psalmist describes, “For behold, the kings assembled; they came on together. 5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded; they were in panic; they took to flight. 6 Trembling took hold of them there, anguish as of a woman in labor. 7 By the east wind you shattered the ships of Tarshish.”[v.4-7] It's unlikely that ships would be used in any meaningful assault on Jerusalem. The term "ships of Tarshish" might be entirely symbolic. Every language has familiar metaphors for strength and power. One metaphor is the "cedars of Lebanon" in such a context (Psa 29:5; 92:12; Isa 2:13). God has subdued His enemies overwhelmingly. Such testimonies are too glorious to ignore or deny. [v.8] The people observing the city, and thinking about these events, are realizing how special the city is. They remember the steadfast love of God., saying, “We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple.”[v.9] They did nothing to deserve God's steadfast love, did they?
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. 2 Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. 4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. 5 You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you. -James 5:1-6 ESV RICHES: A BLIGHT OR BLESSING? James condemns harshly some rich people among them. Is being rich wrong by itself? The condemnation here is not for having wealth, itself, but for those who love wealth causing them to fall into sins. In James 1:10, he offers instruction to wealthy Christians about how to evaluate their true riches. Similarly, Paul warned the rich clearly. He writes, “As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.[1 Tim 6:17-19] Most likely, most of these wealthy people were unbelievers who used their wealth to harm others. They may include those who did not use their wealth to help others (Jas 4:17). Apparently, they used their wealth to oppress the poor Christians so that James was harsh unto them. Paul described them as trapped. He said, “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”[1 Tim 6:9,10] Instead of being blessed by their riches, these riches are a blight unto them. James described them, saying, “Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days.” The failure for those hoarding with wealth is to trust their riches, rather than upon God (Mat 19:23–24). For all will soon be gone. Solomon is right to say, “Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.”[Prov 23:4,5] They are not really rich in the eyes of God. All they have is money and nothing else. They are corrupted by so much greed. How then are we comforted when facing such people? Firstly, God will not allow injustice to go unpunished. These cheated and oppressed laborers are crying against them. James said the “cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.” [v.4,5] Their doom is sure. Today, let's relish on the truth that our riches are in Christ alone. Paul said, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”[Col 3:1,2] Like Moses, let us choose ‘not to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin but consider the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt[world].”[Heb 11:25,26] May God help us to guard our hearts. Acts 8:9-24 ESV 9 But there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great. 10 They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called Great.” 11 And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles[b] performed, he was amazed. 14 Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! 21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are in the gall[c] of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.” 24 And Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.” COULD YOU OBTAIN THE GIFT OF GOD WITH MONEY? Simon, the sorcerer, had amazed the Samaritans “for a long time with his sorcery” (v.11), some even declaring that he was “somebody great” (v.10), a messianic title. Notedly, some acts and demonstrations of sorcery were mere illusions of the mind but others were empowered by Satan in an attempt to discredit the power of God (Mat 24:24; 2 Thess 2:9). The latter which Simon practiced is strongly condemned by God , which was common in the ancient world. The Lord has warned, “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God, 14 for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.” (Deut 18:9–13), Upon hearing and seeing the disciple Philip “as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ" (v.12), Simon believed and was baptized into the early church and “followed Philip everywhere” (v.13). -------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram
This 4 min. episode reading from the Book of James heavily emphasizes prayer. IS ANY AMONG YOU AFFLICTED…When you experience poverty, affliction, or distress, Scripture invites you to seek strength from God through prayer. Draw near to your mediator, Jesus Christ. He will represent you before God, make intercession for you (Heb. 7:25). And give mercy and grace to help in time of need (Heb. 4:16). Take seriously God's Word: “casting you're your care upon Him; for He careth for you (1 Pet. 5:7). If we are happy in the LORD, we must since songs of praise to Him (Ps 33:2-3; 81:1-2; 92:1-3; 98:4-6; 144:9; 149:1-5; 150). Here he speaks of anointing with oil. James is speaking of physical sickness. We may deal with illness by sending for the elders or leaders of the church. It is the duty of pastors and elders to pray for the sick and to anoint them with oil. Note that the responsibility to pray the prayer of faith is on them, not on the ill person. The oil probably represents the healing power of the Holy Spirit and was used as an aid to faith (Mark 6:13). It is the prayer that James emphasizes as most important. Effective prayer must be offered in faith if the sick is to be healed. The LORD will give faith according to His Will. People may or may not always be healed (on this side); nevertheless, God promises to be with all those who cry unto Him in fervent prayer. The LORD shall never leave thee, nor forsake thee. IF HE HAS COMMITTED SINS, James recognizes that sickness may be due to sin (v. 16). Hence, whenever sickness occurs, one should examine himself before the LORD in prayer to determine if his sickness is due to personal sin. The “if” makes it clear that sickness is not always the result of personal sin. FERVENT PRAYER … AVAILETH MUCH. The prayer of a man who is righteous accomplished much. A righteous man's prayer draws him near to God (Heb. 7:25); opens the way to a Spirit-filled life (Luke 11:13; Acts 1:14); brings him power for ministry (Acts 1:8; 4:31, 33) and Christian devotion (Eph 1:19); builds him up spiritually (Jude 20); gives him insight into Christ's provision for him (Eph. 1:16-19); helps him overcome Satan (Dan. 10:12-13); Eph. 6:12-13,18); clarifies the will of God for him (Ps. 32:6-8; Prov. 3:5-6; Mark 1:35-39); enables him to receive spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 14:1)p brings him into fellowship with God (Mat. 6:9; John 7:37; 14:16). HE PRAYED … THE HEAVEN GAVE RAIN. Elijah was a man who had faith that his prayers to God would accomplish much, even to the point of God's intervention in the course of nature. He believes that prayer by a righteous man does change things and circumstances(Vv. 13-16; Ps 34:6; Is. 38:1-5; Mat. 17:21; 26:41, 53; Mark 11:24). IF ANY OF YOU DO ERR. Believers should do everything p[possible to turn back to God for those who stray from the truth (Gal. 4:19; 6:1; 2 Tim. 2:18, 25-26; Jude 22-23). The salvation of a wandering brother or sister should always be a high priority in the Christian community. If the backslider returns to Christ, the one who converts him or her will have saved the soul of the sinner “from death,”, spiritual death, and eternal separation from God (Rom. 6:23; Gal. 6:8; Rev. 20:14). John 17:20-23 ESV 20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. THAT THEY MAY BE ONE Jesus begins explicitly praying for the spiritual well-being of those who will come to faith through the ‘word' ministry of the apostles. This is their overall message of God that includes, the following; the person and ministry of Jesus Christ (John 1:1) and His teachings (John 14:26; Mat 28:19–20]. Just as God the Son, Jesus, was sent into the world to proclaim a message from God the Father (John 10:36–38; 17:6–8), so too are Christian believers sent into the world to proclaim a message given to us by Christ (see v.18). It's noteworthy that when Jesus transited in this prayer from praying for Himself (v.1–5), to praying for the disciples (v.6–19), to praying for all Christians (v.20), the first thing He addressed to is their unity (Psa 133:1). The basis of their unity must be His union with the Father. Having this unity of purpose and intent, Jesus' words and actions are consistent with the words of God and the will of God. A strong proof that He was sent by God (John 14:11, 31). Moreover, Jesus has given them the ‘glory' in a more direct manner, by virtue of salvation. [2 Cor 3:18] This was another reason why He prayed for them to be united. Apparently, loving each other is the primary indicator of God's people (John 13:34–35). They're expected to love the unlovable too. It does mean that self-professed Christians are supposed to demonstrate the glory and goodness of God (Mat 5:13–16), thereby helping others come to faith. Indeed, unity is intended to prove that Christians are following God (v.23). ---------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram
Purified By The Death Of Your DelusionsNeville Goddard1/28/1964 Tonight's subject is about one's delusions: “Purified by the Death of Your Delusions.” You may find it, well, I don't say you will find it profound, no, but I've always felt that whatever is most profoundly spiritual is in reality most directly practical, and you'll find this very practical. But, it does take us into other areas. Possibly the most…if I could choose among the Beatitudes, I would choose the sixth, if I could choose. But it seems arrogant on anyone's part to choose among the great Beatitudes. The sixth Beatitude is “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Mat.5:8). This is a profound statement because man becomes what he beholds, and no man becomes God until he can see God. It's God and God alone who unveils himself that man can see him. But it's an everlasting expansion of the unveiling, as we are told so clearly in Paul's letter to the Corinthians, the 3rd chapter of 2nd Corinthians: “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this is by the Lord who is the Spirit” (verse 18). So he unveils himself in our presence and we at that moment are transformed into the image of what we behold. We invariably become what we behold. The veil that we wear is this garment, and so he simply lifts it and exposes himself, and we behold him as we become him. Sermon Title: IS JESUS REALLY GOD? Series: “BIG QUESTIONS ABOUT LIFE”, part 5 of 12 Pastor Mat Saxon
Acts 16:22-26 Last week we found that in order to have an unshakeable faith that it will require us to accept persecution as a fact and believe the promises of God (Mat 5:11,12). This week we find Paul and Silas beaten and bloody in a prison cell…the average person would be at their breaking point but these men choose to worship. We learn this week that an unbreakable, unshakeable believer is a person yielded to the joy and discipline of prayer and worship.

Italiens idag mest uppmärksammade filmare är regissören Luca Guadagnino, känd för filmer som Call Me By Your Name. Vi tittar närmare på boken I'll Have What She's Having: My Adventures in Celebrity Dieting.

Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God (Mat 16:16)." The most significant part of this confession by Peter in the mind of Jesus was "the Son": God is not only the Father of Jesus, but also of his disciples—one of the predominant themes in the gospel of Matthew. It frequently records the words of Jesus who taught his disciples calling God as "your heavenly Father" (5:16, 45, 6:1, 8, 15, 7:11, etc.). You see the same theme flowing in this passage of Mat 16. Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven (v. 17). According to Jesus, it was the Father himself who taught Peter that Christ is his Son. Here, the apparent implication, on the basis of the theme of Matthew, is that this God became also Peter's Father through his confession. And it should be remembered that in the Bible, the concept of sonship is always associated with the idea that children are heirs. And I tell you that you are Peter (rock), and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (vv. 18-19). Kingdoms are inherited (cf. 1 Cor 6:9-10, James 2:5 etc.) . Thus, to have "the keys of the kingdom of heaven" means to inherit this kingdom with authorities. However, in order to be an heir of this kingdom, Peter needed to be a stone rejected by men following the example of Jesus who became the first such stone. Yet, Peter had no idea what this meant at this point (cf. 1 Pet 2:4ff., Eph 2:20). From that time on Jesus began to tell his disciples that he would suffer, be killed, and be raised to life on the third day. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you (v. 22)!" In the eyes of Peter's mind, this messiah would go up to Jerusalem to be a glorious king, and the one sitting right next to him was Peter himself. Suddenly, Jesus turned and said: Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men (v. 23). Here, the way Jesus acted was almost equivalent to the way he acted when Satan said to him, "All this (all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor) I will give you, if you will bow down and worship me (Mat 4:9)." It is important to note that the issue in both cases was the inheritance of kingdoms. Jesus said to the disciples: If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it (vv. 24-25). To "deny himself and take up his cross," or to "lose his life for me" means to die with Christ, and it points to the spiritual rebirth that a believer in Christ experiences. Such is the one chosen to be an heir of the world. Keep in mind what God said in Jer 27:5: "With great power … I made the earth and its people and the animals that are on it, and I give it to any I please." What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul (v. 26)?
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God (Mat 4:4).’” “Bread” is physical food, and God’s “word” is spiritual food. Since we are spiritual beings, we live not only on physical food, but also on spiritual food. But, is this all that this scripture says, and was it all that Jesus meant? Pay attention to the phrase “every word that comes from the mouth of God.” At this time, Jesus’ ministry was about to begin—the time for the fulfillment of all the scriptures written about him. Physical food is not only for our growth, but also for the energy to act and do all our work. In the same way, spiritual food is not only for the salvation of our soul, or the spiritual growth of our faith, but also for the spiritual work we do according to the will of God: that is, for the work we do for the fulfillment of his word. No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey (or, can do) it (Deut 30:14). Thus, God’s word is not just for your spiritual growth. If so, it would be better to say, “it is in your ears,” because we know that faith comes by hearing the word of God. Note that it is “in your mouth”, and “you can do it, ” according to the above scripture. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate (lit. utter) on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful (Josh 1:8). Here, God was encouraging Joshua not to let the Law (the word) depart from his mouth so that he could do what it said. To do the word of God means to bring it to its fulfillment. More particularly, the fulfillment, for Joshua, meant as follows: Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them (v. 6). This promise for the inheritance of the land had been given in the time of Abraham, and now it was about to be fulfilled through Joshua, and it had to be fulfilled. It was by the fulfillment of God’s word that we humans were created. Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground (Gen 1:26)." If our existence came as the fulfillment of God’s word, then the purpose of our existence must be also for the fulfillment of his word—to rule over all the earth. This must be fulfilled. Just as the Promised Land had to be given to the people of Israel through Joshua as the fulfillment of his word, the above scripture must be fulfilled. It was once inhibited because of our sin and disobedience to God, but now through Christ, the right and power to rule over the earth has been restored to us completely: by grace and in Christ, we have become the heir of the world (Rom 4:13-16). And for this purpose, we were chosen to live in obedience to God doing his word according to his will, not doing our own word according to our will. And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die (Gen 2:16-17)."

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess (Heb 4:14). Faith is not only something that you profess, but also something that you “hold firmly to.” Indeed, Jesus, as Christ, King of kings, and Lord of lords, not only professed so but also held firmly to his own confession of faith before the Sanhedrin and Pilate, the Roman governor. What does this mean? Let us see, for instance, the case of Peter—how he did with regard to this confession of faith and holding firmly to it. He once confessed wonderfully before his fellow disciples and Jesus as follows: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God (Mat 16:16). And Jesus was so glad and replied to him: Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it (vv. 17-18). But we all know what happened later: The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly (Luke 22:61-62). As a result of this, Peter was forced into a completely different spiritual condition—no joy, no peace and absolutely no strength with a strong sense of guilt and failure, which was nothing but a sign that death reigned over him. In fact, if Jesus had not prayed for him (Luke 22:32), he would have killed himself, as did Judas Iscariot. Think, how many of Jesus’ miracles he had seen, and how many of his teachings he had heard. He was with Jesus right from the beginning of his ministry. His mother-in-law was healed from a high fever. He caught a large number of fish after he worked all night and caught nothing. He was the only one who walked on the water together with Jesus. Yet, he failed to acknowledge his master before people. Look at the following words of Jesus: Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven (Mat 10:32-33). Peter once professed his faith all right, but surely did not hold firmly to it. But, in the book of Acts, it is a big surprise to find this same Peter speak so boldly and reign in life before the Sanhedrin, the same people who killed Jesus: Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: "Rulers and elders of the people! … It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. … Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:8-12).”

Programledare: Lars Mogensen, producent Thomas Lunderquist. The Cross Throughout the Scriptures - Part 18 Mat 26:38 Then He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.” 27. The Six Trials of the Lord Jesus Christ. One of the greatest systems of jurisprudence was used to condemn this One, not only innocent but absolutely perfect. Of the six trials, two were held before Pontius Pilate, where Jesus witnessed or testified an honorable confession, 1Ti 6:13. The first trial was before Annas who was the father in law to Caiaphas, who was the high priest that same year, Joh 18:12-14. Annas was engaged in gangster activities connected with every system of corruption in Jerusalem, and bands of robbers in the Negev, who owed their protection to him. Annas, the most religious, approved this case, and followed the counsel of Caiaphas - “Take Him in and kill Him!” - Joh 18:14. Joh 11:50 “It is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation do not perish.” The perfect Son of God is to be presented as a master criminal by the criminals themselves. At least two eyewitnesses of the same act, event, or sin are necessary according to their law, Deu 19:15. a. It was held at night, contrary to Jewish jurisprudence, Mat 26:31,34. b. There was no defense attorney, which was illegal. c. The court also sought false witnesses, obviously illegal. d. The court was prejudiced, and there was violence in the court. Joh 2:19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Isa 53:7 And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth. Pontius Pilate - “He is a just man” A Roman centurion looks up at the Cross - “Truly, this is the Son of God” - Mat 27:54 Here in his court is the eternal High Priest, after the order of Melchisedek!
